YN national sport/s

Postby Zhouran » Tue Sep 26, 2017 7:02 am

What is your nation's national sport/s? Is it/are they de facto or de jure?

While the People's Republic of Zhouran does not have a de jure (established by law) national sport, the nation does have three de facto (not established by law) national sports, which are Rugby Federation (rugby union), Rugby Association (rugby league), and Cricket.

Rugby union in Zhouran is a very popular sport with a continuous existence dating back to early 1876, when it was first introduced by British expatriates. Since then, it has become a national sport. In Zhouran, rugby union is called rugby federation (Putonghua: 橄榄球联邦; Pinyin: Gǎnlǎnqiú liánbāng). The sport is traditionally seen as a "soldier's sport" because of its athletic potential.

Described as "an iconic national sport", it has been featured prominently in Zhouranese popular culture. Because of its popularity and status as a national sport, Zhouran is considered to be one of the top rugby nations in the world.

Rugby league in Zhouran is a very popular sport with a continuous existence dating back to late 1908, when it was first created following the 1895 schism in rugby football. Since then, it has become a national sport. In Zhouran, rugby league is called rugby association (Putonghua: 橄榄球协会; Pinyin: Gǎnlǎnqiú xiéhuì) while rugby union, which was first introduced by British expatriates in early 1876, is called rugby federation (Putonghua: 橄榄球联邦; Pinyin: Gǎnlǎnqiú liánbāng). Rugby league is traditionally seen as a "soldier's sport" because of its athletic potential.

Described as "an iconic national sport", it has been featured prominently in Zhouranese popular culture. Because of its popularity and status as a national sport, Zhouran is considered to be one of the top rugby nations in the world.

Cricket in Zhouran is a popular sport with a continuous existence dating back to early 1931, when it was first introduced to the nation by Zhouranese expatriates residing in Britain and countries that had once been a part of the British Empire. Since then, it has become a national sport. Cricket is traditionally seen as a "professional sport" since it was established as a popular sport in Zhouran by the middle-class and wealthy upper-class.

Described as "an iconic national sport", it has been featured prominently in Zhouranese popular culture. Because of its popularity and status as a national sport, Zhouran is considered to be one of the top cricket nations in the world.

Compared to other Oriental countries, Zhouran is the only non-Commonwealth country where Commonwealth sports are the most popular. The reason for this is because the British introduced their sports to the Zhouranese and since then Commonwealth sports are the most popular in Zhouran, in comparison to American sports such as Basketball or Baseball.

Currently, there are up to 40 top-professional rugby federation teams, 40 top-professional rugby association teams, and 40 top-professional cricket reams, with Zhouran's rugby federation, rugby association, and cricket championships being regarded as the world's elite professional-level domestic rugby and cricket championships. The vast majority of major top-professional sports teams are concentrated in various populous metropolitan areas of Zhouran. Not only that, Zhouran is known to have the most highest average viewed and attended top-professional domestic-level rugby union, rugby league, and cricket competitions in the world, as well as the largest number of rugby union, rugby league, and cricket sports-club.

The national sport is formally football, although there is more participation in track and field.

Soccer is the most popular sport here by a distance, although the government puts a lot of resources into enabling athletes across the full spectrum of Olympic sports as well. Soccer players at the highest levels are mostly semi-professional - they get paid to play but very few players make a full living from the game. Clubs are owned by their local municipality and leadership positions at the clubs are democratically elected by local residents.

South Miruva's government has not declared any national sports on the basis that they wish to avoid confrontation and competition between towns, cities, states, etc. The de facto national sports are soccer/football and basketball, with the Croix FC and the Wilmington Wasps as the respective top teams.

Kiravian-rules football (a gridiron football code) is the most popular sport in Kiravia, but sampakuv (essentially kayak polo) is the official national sport.

Ice hockey is the second-most popular sport after Kiravian-rules football, though its popularity is concentrated on the northern and eastern seaboards. Hurling/shinty, Gaelic football, golf, and basketball are the other organised sports with a significant following nationwide. Rugby union and baseball are growing in popularity but do not yet have a national profile or nationwide organising body.

Racquetball enjoyed a brief period of nationwide popularity during the 21150s (1970s anno Domini) when the Kiravian national team won a number of international titles, but quickly fell out of favour as the national team's performance declined. Hundreds of shuttered racquetball clubs scattered across the Federacy stand as a testament to the sport's former prominence.

Soccer is not very popular outside of the Portuguese-speaking autonomous Tryhstian Littoral Territory on the southern coast of Great Kirav, and the Tryhstian Littoral fields its own national team. The Kiravian national soccer team is notoriously bad, and is frequently eliminated from Ixnay regional tournaments in the qualifying rounds by teams from much smaller and poorer nations.

Baseball is considered the national sport of Gandoor. It has been played in our nation since the 1870's with the first professional league being established in 1893.

In the present day, professional baseball is played by the Gandoor Professional Baseball League, established in 1919. The GPBL currently has twenty-four teams, with the most successful team being the Osaka Dragons, who have won twenty-four Gandoor National Baseball Championships and have participated in forty-two.

Football (soccer) 100%. If you don't like football then get out.

We also have people who like GAA sports like football (Gaelic) and hurling, gymnasts in Paradise City and elsewhere and people, mostly outside the capital, who solve their disputes via boxing (bareknuckle)

The government does not designate any official national sports. Unofficially, baseball is by far the most popular sport; it is often called the national pastime, and (unlike in the U.S.) that statement is quite accurate. Some other popular sports include table tennis, hockey, ice skating, skiing, and gymnastics.

While no sport is the de jure national sport, our de facto sport is unanimously considered to be rugby. Which code? Well, both. Everyone has their own preference and rabidly expresses its superiority at every opportunity. Rugby union has a larger following, especially among youth, but rugby league fans are very vocal. Both codes have an annual cup (at different times of the year) and a national team nicknamed the Right Hooks. Rugby has both professional teams and amateur clubs, and is very commonly played in schools and colleges.

Atlantis does not have an official national sport, but it has a de facto one: football (not the American one).
Uses certain NS stats.

Atlantis is an MT nation that is the third richest country in the world, behind only China and the United States. It is closer to the USA, UK, Italy and Spain (in that order, though Italy and Spain is probably tied) culturally than it is Greece. It is also a naval power.

And no, Atlantis is not underwater: It has a land area around the size of France.

Pros: Classical liberalism, democracy, the West, Brexit, Viktor Orban, free education, strong military
Cons: Authoritarianism, fascism, communism, multiculturalism, Islamism
