The Tawwassian Q&A

The Confederacy of Tawwassen is a Federation of Semi-Autonomous Socialist Communities, situated across North Western Canada and the majority of British Columbia. We have a population of around 4 1/2 million citizens, the majority of whom live in or around our largest city, and Capital, Salish Bay (formerly known as Vancouver).

"We are not particularly fond of Monarchies, nor do we much care for Liberalism or Centrism. The idea of a state religion is not something we can support, either. I suppose their are some things we can find common ground on... The importance of protecting Native American faiths and cultures, as well as civil liberties. Overall, I suppose we are fairly neutral, leaning towards negative for your views on Capitalism, Religion, the State and Monarchism."

"The name Tawwassen is an anglicized form of sc̓əwaθən, which roughly translates to 'Facing the Ocean' in Halkomelem, a Language spoken by a number of first nations communities on and around the Salish Sea."

"Worker's self management and Decentralized socialism are what our nation was founded upon! Syndicalism is particularly popular in the more industrial communities in Salish Bay... As Anarcho-Syndicalist movements played a crucial roll in securing the city during our revolution, but across the nation Libertarian Socialist ideals dominate the Political scene."

"Our government's opinion on Manju is a rather skeptical acceptance. We appreciate Socialist states, but your Authoritarianism is quite off putting for us. We value liberty here, and see State mandated Socialism as counter-productive at best.

"As for how one would gain citizenship, it's quite straight forward. Just complete simple background check and a citizenship test, and you'll find our doors are open! To apply you must have lived here for at least four years, and be over the age of 18 (Or have a Parent's approval)."

"We are naturally skeptical of authoritarian regimes. However, your people are typically viewed with respect, and seen as comrades in the struggle for global socialism. We share many values, even if we disagree on how they ought to be implemented. And from our perspective, your aspects we agree with and support far outweigh the aspects we do not endorse."

"With somewhat mixed feelings. For one, we believe the Communists were an improvement over the Tsar, although that is not truly much of an achievement. Life was better under the Communist Regime than it had been, and for the most part the quality of life improved. But it was by no means a Socialist Utopia... Far from it. Perhaps if Lenin practiced more of what he preached, it would be a different story, but as it turned out the Soviet Union was for the most part, a perversion of Socialist Values."

"Global warming is one of... if not the greatest threat facing mankind, and we will do whatever we can to slow it's destruction of the planet. My government has committed to a plan to power our nation off renewable energy within the next decade, mainly geothermal energy, wind and solar power, as well as hydro-electric power.

"As for the Empire, while I am not a fan I can accept it for what it is. It seems at first glance rather progressive as Empires go, and has some admirable qualities I can respect. Certainly not something I have any hostile feelings towards."

"As mentioned above, I am quite interested in alternative energy and biofuels, for the sake of the planet. You can see my above answer for the reasons why. Recreational drugs I admit, are a bit of a bad habit I've been trying to kick for a while, Marijuana more specifically. However, I don't think it's at all productive to arrest people for suffering an addiction. I don't like drugs, but support their legalization.

"Genetic Engineering is something that fascinates me. It could easily be twisted, but for the most part I do think it could quite easily revolutionize the human condition... Make it so much more comfortable and enjoyable. We do also support the idea of a small government, which may set us a part from other far left movements. We support cooperative ownership and the principles of communalism, rather than state socialism."

"Life is pretty good around here. We all have food, access to clean water and medicine. Especially in more remote, northern villages, the standard of living has increased dramatically from when we were under Canadian Rule. When compared to the rest of the world, we have an HDI of 0.913."
