Who currently has the right to vote in your nation?
As an anarchist society, the term vote is slightly different from the typical action associated with it.... Individuals do not vote for leaders or heads of state but rather vote on the course of actions within their cooperatives and communities through a process of direct democracy

Who does not have the right to vote in your nation?
Everyone has the right to vote within their community as everyone is considered to be their own leaders and own masters

What is the timeline of suffrage in your nation?

1946 - Founding of The Free Mutualist Society of Proudhonia
1946 - Immediate suffrage to all working class individuals regardless of predetermined factors

Postby The Land of the Ephyral » Wed Aug 28, 2019 4:38 am

Who currently has the right to vote in your nation? | Membership in the political voting blocs and the right to exercise a vote in modern Ephyral elections is held by few in the total expanse of the Senate and Freeborn Landholders of Ephyra. To qualify, one must be a freeborn, adult male, full Ephyral citizen, with at least the minimum financial worth to be considered as having a stake in the future of Ephyra. However, this has varied over time.

Who does not have the right to vote in your nation? | Ephyral citizenship is broken up into two camps, those with suffrage and those without. Those with suffrage fall exclusively into the aforementioned criteria, whilst lack of possession of these criteria or possession of disqualifying criteria in addition to the suffrage-giving traits are placed into the camp without suffrage. This includes;

Slaves and freedmen; anyone born as a slave (a child fathered on a slave woman who was not emancipated prior to giving birth), or who is made a slave and later freed by their master, is granted Ephyral citizenship but without suffrage. If their children are born free, then assuming all other requirements are met, they will be eligible for citizenship with suffrage.

Children; the legal age of majority under Freehold law is sixteen for both males and females, however this is legally distinct from the concept of adulthood which is seen as obtained through the assumption of duties. For young males, this can occur from age twelve, legal adolescence, when boys are ceased to be called such as treated as men in accordance to their actions until sixteen when they are legally enrolled as a citizen. Sixteen is regarded as an age of majority for females in a very loose sense and almost entirely just to bring it to parity with their brothers. Fourteen is regarded at the age a girl ceases to be a child, has had menarche, and is legally marriageable. Sixteen is regarded the age at which doubt on her status as part-child part-woman is considered abandoned, and consequently most marriages take place after the bride is sixteen. This focus is purely cultural however, for as the next stage illustrates, the relevance of age of majority to political standing is absent with females.

Women; remaining under the legal guardianship of a family member - typically a father, potentially a brother, and only informally a husband - women by birth are ineligible for political participation as either a voter or a candidate, with their social and familial role being regarded as private over the male's public sphere. This lack of political participation, the core of true citizenship, is partly why there's no clear fixed age of adulthood for females. Where adulthood marks the duty of becoming a full citizen, girls are seen as becoming women when they enter marriage and assume the responsibilities of a wife and then a mother, acting in the interests of her family of birth and her family of marriage. Despite this lack of conventional participation it should be noted that women are expected to maintain strong character in support of their male relatives and this includes politically, and that women have across the Freehold's history maintained positions of political relevance even if not officially holding power or having the right to participate. For a brief period prior to the Second Cultural Revolution, women of the aristocracy were afforded the vote in a massively controversial act which was repealed later.

Non-citizens; encompassing those holding the Lykosian Rights (also called Lykosian citizenship), foreign status, and provincial resident, non-citizens do not have the right of suffrage in Ephyral elections although these three groups are not equal in their possession of other rights. Lykosians for example have the right of intermarriage to full Ephyral citizens, the result of which can be children who do inherit a right to vote. However exclusively on suffrage, Lykosians, foreign migrants and their descendants, and conquered individuals of formed provinces and their descendants, do not possess the right to vote in Ephyral elections. Depending on the legal status of their settlement of residence, local elections for magistrates and other officials may take place but this is better broken down by legal variant of settlement and district rather than the status of those who live there.

Note: Alania and Gothia is an absolute monarchy and we have elections only at the local level

Who currently has the right to vote in your nation?
A subject of the Grand Duke of Alania and Gothia, at least 21 years old, registered for tax purposes in the municipality he or she wants to vote.

Who does not have the right to vote in your nation?
Anyone else. The tax registration requirement de facto excludes prisoners serving long-time sentences, and in practice those who study or work outside of their hometown are less likely to vote.

What is the timeline of suffrage in your nation?
Before 1791 each local authority had its own rules. The Proclamation on Municipal Corporations of 1791 established standarised local governments throughout the country and stated that any subject who paid property taxes in a municipality could vote there. Theoretically women were not excluded, although in practice ownership of real property by them was uncommon at the time and women made between 1.5% and 8% of voters, depending on the area.
In 1932, after a general strike caused by economic depression, the then-Grand Duke adopted a package of reforms, including basing local government suffrage on the income tax, rather than property tax, which meant that almost all adult subjects were allowed to vote.

Who currently has the right to vote in your nation?

All Shalottes above the age of adulthood (15) have the right to vote for their local Tyrrn. Shalotte enjoys universal suffrage. Elected Tyrrns then vote for the Mon'gaeltyn - the leader of government - from among their own number.

Who does not have the right to vote in your nation?

Children.

What is the timeline of suffrage in your nation?

The Gaeltyn was initially established as an advisory body for the Domnaeni, in the year equivalent to 1500 A.D. At that time Tyrrns were appointed by the Domnaeni, drawn from the most influential people of a particular region rather than elected, but it only took a few years for this to change - the first Call of Tyrrns occurred less than a decade after the Gaeltyn was established. Initially, suffrage was the purview of town mayors, village elders, wealthy land owners, and the leaders of major clans besides that of Clan Selgovae. There were no age or gender restrictions; due to the tradition of matrilineal descent in Shalotte, clan leaders and major land owners were invariably women and could be of any age (with a regent often appointed for the extremely young), while town mayors and village elders could be of either gender. Most direct regional affairs were handled by local 'parliaments' instead of the Tyrrns - informal gatherings of all able-bodied members of a community who got together to discuss the important issues of the day or week. Tyrrns played a minimum role in anything outside of the royal court.

As the Domnaeni began to devolve more of her powers to the Gaeltyn in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the institution became a more formal, important national governing body, the rules of participation became more formalised too. The electorate was expanded to include every adult of sound mind living within a particular Tyrrny, and a minimum age of 15 - the standard 'age of adulthood' in Shalotte tradition - was mandated for participating in elections.

By the start of the 20th century, the Call of Tyrrns was formally open to the entire adult population of Shalotte, irrespective of position or wealth.

Who currently has the right to vote in your nation? All adult citizens

Who does not have the right to vote in your nation? Minors and non-citizens

What is the timeline of suffrage in your nation?

1812 - Charellian federation formed. No direct election of federal leaders. Voting rights inconsistent across member states.

1818 - Dioned Province allows direct election of federal representatives. Only property-owning men could vote.

1825 - Creation of elected National Council. Criteria for suffrage still determined by member states.

1831 - Netien Province first to introduce universal male suffrage.

1845 - Direct elections for Chief Executor introduced.

1889 - Electoral Reform Amendment ratified by all member states, standardizing voting rights nationwide. Universal male suffrage granted with some exceptions and National Council granted the authority to set electoral procedures.

1916 - Dioned Province first to expand suffrage to women

1920 - National Council passes Universal Suffrage Act, expanding voting rights to women in national elections.

1969 - Second Electoral Reform Amendment enshrines Universal Suffrage Act in the constitution, standardizes voting rights across all regions and levels of government, eliminates loss of suffrage for certain crimes, and standardizes election processes for provincial representatives in Charellia's upper house.
