How hard is it to immigrate to your nation, and the AN

Postby Borinsa » Sat Sep 09, 2017 6:02 pm

So basically you introduce your immigration policies and system after commenting on the above nation's system,

I go first,

Immigration & Tourism fees
You must pay to get in to this country or you will be deported,
tourist fees are fairly low compared to the immigration fees designed to discourage immigration from threatening the native population.
The fees differ depending on what country class you are from
(first generation immigrants can't vote in Borinsa no matter which class of country they came from)

Class A
Italy, Croatia, Japan, South Korea, Iceland
*and Ex-Borinsans from any country,

Tourist fee 1,000 USD per person
Immigration fee 20,000 USD per person

Class A tourists and immigrants can only be deported if they commit a crime.

Class B
EU members who are not listed in the A class, China, Scandinavia

Tourist fee 1,500 USD per person
Immigration fee 25,000 USD per person
*50% child discount

Class B tourists and immigrants can be deported any time for any reason but must be given full refunds on their fees so long as they committed no crimes

Class C
US,UK,Canada,Australia,New Zealand, Russia, Latin America, Israel, Polynesia, Micronesia, Melanesia

Tourist fee 2,500 USD per person
Immigration fee 30,000 USD per person
*50% child discount

Class C tourists and immigrants can be deported any time for any reason and only require 50% refund on their fees if they get deported

Class D
Kazakhstan, Albania, Turkey, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Most of Africa

Tourist fee 5,000 USD per person
Immigration fee 40,000 USD per person
*50% child discount
*50% female discount
*50% non-muslim discount
*50% homosexual discount

Class D tourists and immigrants can be deported any time for any reason without any refund

Class E
All muslim majority nations except the Class D countries Saudi Arabia, and Syria

Tourism is not permitted from these countries
Immigration fee 50,000 USD
*50% child discount
*50% female discount
*50% non-muslim discount
*90% homosexual discount

These immigrants can be deported at any time for any reason without any refund

Class F
North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Syria

No immigration or Tourism is permitted from these nations

My family would cost $105,000 to immigrate, so yeah I'd say Borinsa is a tough one

Okay... hmm.

The immigration fees I don't have a problem with: they seem pretty straightforward and understandable.

But, I am a bit confused by the tourism fees. Why do you charge a tourism fee? I mean, aside from the obvious "Because it's a revenue generator for my Nation, duh!" factor. Isn't the entire point of allowing tourism the fact that tourists come to one's nation to visit, spends lots of money - leaving a lot of income behind with the local citizenry - and enrich the economy, and then go back home?

Wouldn't charging an initial tourism fee just discourage tourists and depress your tourist industry?

(Unless the entire point is to discourage people from visiting your nation, in which case, "never mind!")

Since AN did not describe their own policy, I will comment on the one above them.

Your system seems designed to discourage immigration by anyone who isn't wealthy. While I can see how that would be popular, it does limit your access to cheap foreign labor. Also, does the tourism fee also apply to those visiting on business? If so, that would really hamper international trade, given that foreign businessmen have to pay a fee just to visit, let alone sending over people to establish corporate branches in your country.

Neuhanseland has very lax immigration controls. In fact, we have virtually none at all. Anyone who can pay for transit is welcome to come to Neuhanseland and stay as long as they like. However, acquiring property or getting anything other than a menial job is another matter. All settlements maintain controls on the sale of real estate. Many small towns have all property in the town be owned by the town, and won't sell to anyone. As for employment, all but the most basic professions are overseen by the guilds, and the guilds wield immense political power - in fact, they basically run the country. Membership in a guild is much harder to come by.

It seems like a good strategy that upholds the right of travel, however the guild system appears to be slightly primitive and elitist. The ease with which one can travel is highly commendable but the difficult with acquiring jobs seems as though it would virtually eliminate the economic advantages associated with immigration.

Immigration to Kenmoria is extremely easy if you live in the EU as there are no controls for any who are part of the European Union. Anyone who joins in this way has the same rights as any other Kenmorian citizen excluding voting for the first 5 years and serving in the military for the first two years. However a non-EU citizen must undergo a criminal record check and receive testing for infectious diseases.

Kenmoria is an illiberal yet democratic nation pursuing the goals of communism in a semi-effective fashion. It has a very broad diplomatic presence despite being economically developing, mainly to seek help in recovering from the effect of a recent civil war. Read the factbook here for more information; perhaps, I will eventually finish it.

Given your association with the European Union, your immigration system seems very porous and prone to dangers.

In Great Nortend, it is somewhat difficult to immigrate. In order to settle down and live in Great Nortend, a person must obtain leave to remain, or permanent residency. This entails assessment by a counsulate officers and requires prospective immigrants to:

Have a skill or trade that can is valid in Great Nortend or:
Have been accepted by a Nortan company or:
Have been accepted by a Nortan university
Not have any publically transferrable or contagious diseases
Have no outstanding debts over £500
    Have a clean criminal record
Not be a Muslim, Scientologist, Buddhist or a member of any other banned religion

Leave to remain lasts for three years and can be renewed. Applications cost £8·3·0.

Open border sure is good, like, national security, safety regulations, social cohesion, and safety for citizens... what's up with that? But hey, surely a lot of Zhouran's very bored individuals would move indeed for various personal reasons.

The People's Republic of Zhouran has one of the most stringent and rigorous immigration policy ever seen on Earth. Due to the nation's isolationist stance, moving to Zhouran is extremely difficult. Foreigners who are only looking to do the menial work locals don't want (eg. house-maids, street-cleaners) are allowed to migrate to Zhouran, however they can only work under a contract for any specified amount of years depending on the choices of the employer. These contracts can be extended, however once a contract ends the foreigner has the choice of either extending it or move back to their home country. As for couples involving a foreigner and a Zhouranese person (98% likely to be a foreign woman dating or married to a Zhouranese man), they have a higher chance of being successfully allowed into the country.

As unlikely it would be, theres a possibly a very slight chance that a dushani could immigrate under the right circumstances to Zhouran. Most likelist possibility would indeed by marriage. But marrying a dushani... oh oh... Expect cultural values dissonances. So to speak.

Immigration into the Principality of Dushan is complicated business. While it is not so difficult to obtain an residence permission, becomming a dushani is an entirely other question. There is hardly an immigration process that is comparable to Earth except marriage possibly. The Dushan however take those under their protection whom they deem to be an useful addition to their kin and nation, and sometimes go at some lenghs to even make them one of theirs if they want them.

One does not simply becomes a dushani.

The process of becomming a Dushan has not been changed since ancient times in it's principles, it is like becomming a member of a tribe and admitted into it. On a more practical levels at the beginning stands often an more or less formal oath or pledge towards a dushani mentor who from that point onward is the responsible guide for his or her protegee. The process differs in details and the obligatory legal and bureaucratic formalities that come into play, but at the very end at some point one might become truly a Dushan. At a price, of course.

Usually but by no means necessary this goes by service in the Dushan Armed Forces, it's Legions or other armed formations. Those who spilled their blood in service of the Principality become thus dushani.

Sometimes, usually in the context of conquest or abduction, the process of becomming a dushani is not entirely voluntary. This has become rare however.

Women are allowed to immigrate for free, receiving full citizenship and 100,000 Sarkeesians upon arrival. Men must pay the equivalent of 500,000 Sarkeesians to immigrate, and are only allowed to work, receiving no benefits.
Women have no restriction, and any woman can enter the country whenever she pleases. Men are forbidden to cross the border without paying the fee, and once they have immigrated, may not leave until they have worked for at least one year for the benefit of the Feminist Union.

In Great Nortend, it is somewhat difficult to immigrate. In order to settle down and live in Great Nortend, a person must obtain leave to remain, also known as permanent residency. This entails assessment by a consulate officers and requires prospective immigrants to:

  • Have a skill or trade that is valid in Great Nortend or:
  • Be employed by a Nortan company or:
  • Have been accepted by a Nortan university

  • Not have any publically transferrable or contagious diseases
  • Have no outstanding debts over £500
  • Have a clean criminal record
  • Not be a Muslim, Scientologist, Buddhist or a member of any other banned religion

Furthermore, all immigrants applying for leave to remain are required to take an oath of allegiance for immigrants, which is as follows:

I, A B, do swear by Almighty God that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty the King, his heirs and successors, and do truly profess and acknowledge that His Majesty is the Sovereign Lord and King of this Realm and all of his other Dominions. So help me God.

Leave to remain lasts for three years and can be renewed. Oaths must be taken in the presence of an authorised officer, such as a notary public, a clergyman in the Church of Nortend, a judge, MP or justice-of-the-peace. Applications cost £8·3·0, a fee which is not refunded, with an additional 1d of document duty for applications within Great Nortend. Renewals must be applied for within the King's realms and do not cost any money except 1d of document duty.

To immigrate to Fatatatutti, you have to get here. We don't make any distinction between citizens, immigrants, tourists, etc.

It's funny how nations like Great Nortend, which make it hard to immigrate, are often the places that nobody in their right mind would want to immigrate to.

In the CTM, there is no immigration fee but an application form has to be submitted (in paper or online) unless you are a refugee (in which you will automatically be accepted). Next, potential immigrants have to be screened by border control AI to prove that they are not an extremist threat or carrying contagious and high-threat diseases (which could pose a threat to citizens without internal nanobots). Once in the CTM, an immigrant can only be deported if they commit a crime (higher level than a class E crime)
