What's the name of YN's legislature? National Congress
Bicameral, unicameral, or more houses than two? Bicameral
Names of the houses?
  • Upper: Senate of the Republic
  • Lower: Assembly of the Union
What are members referred to as?
  • In the SotR, members are referred to as 參議員 (can yìyuán), or senator.
  • In the AotU, members are referred to as 議員 (yìyuán), or assemblyman and assemblywoman.
Number of members? 545
  • Senate of the Republic: 103
  • Assembly of the Union: 442
Current speaker(s) (if applicable)? Chancellor Ying Jiayi
Current head of government? Chancellor Ying Jiayi
Which party is in power? National League for Democracy
Are they in a coalition? If so, what parties are they in a coalition with?
  • Following the last elections, the NLD formed a coalition government with the Social Union Party, Nationalist Republicans, and the Iyoshi National Party.
What languages are spoken in your legislature?
  • As Panjiang is a large, multi-ethnic country inhabited by speakers of numerous languages, it should come as no surprise that many of the legislators are bilingual or even multilingual. Like most Panjingese, though, pretty much every legislator in the Assembly and the Senate speaks the Panjingese language. Legislators from the Iyoshi and Guugar regions often converse with each other in their native language, but all know how to fluently speak Panjingese.
Voting system?
  • The members of the National Congress, in both the Assembly and the Senate, are elected through a variety of methods depending on the province they are running in. The only universal rules, as set by the Constitution, are that the legislators are chosen via direct popular election and that the members represent a geographically defined constituency. Most provinces elect their politicians, including legislators, via a simple two-round system. A number of provinces scattered across the country have implemented various other voting systems for both federal and provincial-level elections. The most popular of these alternate voting systems is instant-runoff voting.
