The de facto official language of Arwennick is English. Our dialect of English is not dissimilar to that of Early Modern English. We retain the Old English characters Þ and ð, as well as æ in many names*, and there are some isolated communities on the western peninsula who speak with Old English, or "Ænglisc". Much of the western peninsula of Arwennick is populated by the indigenous Gwynnic people, though, who speak Gwynnic.

* although "th" and "þ"/"ð" are interchangable in names. In written English (apart from names that are specifcally written with þ or ð), "th" is the only acceptable form. Westerners (as in western Arwennick) who are "out of it" (and have been for hundreds of years) may write with þ or ð though (barbarians..). So the name "Elizabeth" can be written as 'Elizabeth' or 'Elizabeþ' (as long as it's consistent with the individual). "Eðelskirke" can only be written as 'Eðelskirke because it is a name in which ð is specifically used. "Thing" can only be written as 'thing'. (unless you're a westerner...! *snort*)
