Minority Languages: Lhedwinic, Nausikaan, Ainharic, Kawanaka, Thrusian, Hidnuv
GDP per capita (USD): 1,939.61 USD
HDI: 0.634
Brief background of nation:
The Confederation of Mærdki (Ardhi Fasi in the national Ardnu language) is a large multi-ethnic state home to many indigenous Savai peoples and the decedents of Lhedwic colonists. Administered from the central capital of Lasu Duz, the nation is officially bilingual, with both Navish and Ardnu taught in schools from young ages. Along the straits and in large cities, Navish is used as a business language, albeit with localized phrasings and vocabulary, while Ardnu, the standardized dialect of the indigenous Badas peoples, is currently retained and used in national cultural institutions such as the Mærdki Broadcasting Corporation and the Mærdki Post-Colonial Society Forum. Officially, Mærdki is under the leadership of the National Crisis Front attempting to secure the nation from regional separatists and extremist elements that make travel outside of the major cities dangerous. However, the reality is many of these local warlords engage in practices of kidnapping and forced labour. These ‘dark factories’ produce inexpensive goods in large sweatshops often with little regard for safety or fair trade. While the government is said to be in a state of constant war, the reality of the status quo and the government’s relationship with these ‘rogue industries’ is one of corruption and self-interest.
The majority of citizens of Mærdki reside in large cities along the coasts, with a large network of rural towns surrounding old Lhedwic ‘factory estates’, the original drivers of profit and investment in the nation. Modern homes in cities are often equipped with luxuries such as internet access, air-conditioning and swimming pools, however many rural communities and towns lack essential services such as healthcare and education.

Mærdki, despite the poor circumstances it currently faces is a nation rich in its own history. The Savai continent has been inhabited since around 50,000 BCE, where human migration is theorized to have crossed into the continent from east Catai, with archaeological evidence of early Neolithic civilisations, primari However, the first contact between Asuran and Savai peoples was the Newreyan expedition of the St Edred in 1765, reporting back dense jungles and urban ruins. The ultimate decision to write off the value of the continent by Newreyan surveyors eventually lead to the investment of over 100 million Krona by the United Kingdom of Lhedwin into the trinity exhibition, captained by Hans Trúathi Andersen. On March 12th, the first colonial city of Treenighedsby, was established.
Lhedwic presence on the continent rapidly intensified after the independence of Nordhurlant, in an attempt to compensate the losses of their previous holdings.
The first revolution against Lhedwic rule was in 1833. Despite being brutally put down by the Trade Guard, and it was not until the fifth revolution in 1875, following years of strikes and sabotage that the Guard was forced to retreat to the strait holdings and the end of labour-intensive resource extraction was abandoned by the Lhedwic-Savai Mission Corporation, and the colony nationalized under the direct control of the United Kingdom of Lhedwic.
Increased financial and educational aid to the colony from this point would further serve to empower a young nationalist movement. The first semblance of a united identity among the variety of ethnic groups and the hundreds of localized tribes. After the final defeat of UKL at the conclusion of the Great War, the colony was suddenly responsible for its own independence. Fearing attacks from the Southern Ajerr'i Kingdoms, the colony received a grand amount of compensation from its previous overlords, and a sizable portion of it’s naval fleet. This was seen not only as a method of ensuring hospitable connections between the victorious allies and a resource rich nation, but designed to encourage anti-Lhedwic sentiments within the elites of the colony. However, this anti Lhedwic sentiment quickly collapsed as the youth nationalist movement striving for the liberation of their homelands descended into arguments over what shape the new nation was to be. With the shipments of old Lhewdic weaponry and boats to the colony, guerrilla warfare against the provisional government began, shortly after 1905, when regionalist and separatist parties were outlawed. This civil conflict would rage on for 12 years until 1916 when two main forces came to dominate the region. The Modernists – a coalition of socialists, civil rights activists and church groups in the south strait regions, and the Archeocrats – the ‘restoration party’, an ethno-nationalist militia including some of the most successful war veterans. Highly popular among their strongholds in the countryside. Only after a meeting brokered by the neighbouring Confederation of Ajerr'i in an attempt the guerrillas to negotiate a peace to defend against the spread of Marxist-Leninism and influence of the FSR.
However, while the creation of a central government was achieved, largely by the personal merit of both faction leaders, the Mærdki public had mixed feelings. Most, especially in the cities on both sides were relieved to the end of hostilities, while rural areas of Archeocrats saw this as a betrayal and rose up against what they saw was a Modernist coup. While these cells of bandits and extremists would eventually be whipped out by counter-insurgency measures, the lack of a police presence in much of the countryside has effectively led to lawlessness outside of the gates of villages and cities.

Flag & Symbolism:
The mountain goat is seen as symbol of the nation, with belief in the sanctity of goats prevalent before colonization of the region. The goat however was a stable meat and diary producer from the early settlers, and they were easy to herd everywhere from the coast to the mountains. After the colony’s detachment from the UKL, people simply removed and centred the golden disk and goat. The colour of the disk is said to be representative of the dreams of the colonists, or even the wealth of the land, however there is no evidence for this in any of the captain logs.

Map claim (https://imgur.com/STSGky8):

Geography and climate of nation: Home to the Savi Pass, a dry Mediterranean climate hosting large shrubs and tough fruit orchids. Further North the colder hills translate into a temperate landscape, covered in native grasses and gentle creeks between the valleys, until the northern-eastern coast is reached, where sub-tropical rains result in mangroves and thick vegetation.

How will your nation fit within the existing regional power structure? (strengths/weaknesses):

As a developing nation, my goal within the existing power structure of the Savi continent is to serve as a bridge between the South and the North of the continent, owing to my ownership of key choke-points and islets that allow for potential bridge construction. I am blessed with resources and good lands for cultivation; however, my weakness is the volatile political culture and general lawlessness of interior regions. Additionally, as an ex-colonial nation I must deal with popular resentment against foreign intervention and investments.
The challenge to modernize my nation though the evolution of business, justice and legislation within my borders and reform a broken country is what I am most interested in. I also wish to act as a precedent of international humanitarian efforts establishing refugee camps and brokering a peace.

If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?:
Cut the population down by half, and reduce my claims to the north-east of the continent. I would also add a strong independence movement in the south of the continent as it is ethincially different from the northern Badas and Thrusian people groups.
How did you hear about Aeia? I’ve been joined for ages because I am friends with another member, but I’ve only found time now to join.

Roleplay sample (Optional, though required for claiming a more powerful role):
First contact between Asurans and Marki indigenous peoples is dated to 1740, when Newreyan explorers had begun charting the eastern archipelago of northern Savai. Archeological evidence suggests a trade between the inhabitants of the Huan islands north of the Thrussian coast. Findings of Newreyan cutlery being attached to water-fishing spears and rings engraved with early-modern Newreyan prayers.
Mapmakers in Newrey noted the seemingly deep inlets from previous costal navigations indigenous Mardki peoples was in 1765 by the Newreyan expedition the St Edred under the command of James Harlan of the continent, however among the leading geographical circles, the Savai landmass was presumed continuous due to the information gained from contact with Thrusian tribes at what would become Port Kalmar, who gave descriptions of lands of great wealth and food to the south. Believing this southern civilization to be the ruins of the old Bahabismir civilization on the Southern island, navigators had concluded the landmass to be continuous. With the recent previous exhibition of the Commonwealth Light to the southern Savai islands revealing the existence of great urban ruins that showed signs of burning and looting, along with evidence of ritualistic cannibalism against Asurans^1, the navigational crew had dismissed any idea of a potential trading station, and feared further exploration of the continent.

However, as the decades of the early 18th century passed, the recently unified United Kingdom of Lhedwin became greatly interested in potential sources of colonial wealth. Having only inherited Motvara from the preceding United Kingdom of Navack, and already under the strain of keeping order and developing Nordhurlant, the Lhedwin effectively left the development of Savai to a coalition of private industrialists and elites looking to invest their extra revenue from Nordhurlant. While investing in an impenetrable jungle fortress with the possibility of being eaten by local cannibals would not likely attract much wealth from sane hands, it was the nefarious intent, and drastic luck of a Cuirpthean criminal Dougal McGuire who brought the Newrian discovery to the attention of the Lhedwinic government that brought the Lhedwic to Savai.
Dougal McGuire was an accountant born and raised in the city of Portlaosie, Cuirpthe. Attending collage financed by his inheritance. Dougal McGuire was a socialite within the governing naval elite of the city, however his tendency to gamble often resulted in his apprehension by the police when causing public disturbances while drunk, and his relations with his peers became dampened in his later life when he increasingly requested to borrow money. When asked to give a statement, Sir Jack Hackett, baron of the horse races quoted regarding McGuire as “[his] greatest Patron and biggest headache”. Ultimately however, after betting a large sum of Gaoldas on a dog race, McGuire was targeted by debt collectors from the Portlaosie Municpal Banking Corporation and private underworld syndicates. A warrant was issued for his arrest shortly after for “financial incompetence and theft of intelligence”. It was not until 1782 that the name McGuire surfaced again in financial records, this time in Kalgnat, as the founder of the Lhedwic-Savai Mission Corporation (LSMC). Seeking an audience with the monarch of Lhedwic, McGuire made several inquiries and letters to the royal court, repeatedly promising “a chance of untold wealth”. Only after repeated inquires and his 83rd letter was his meeting with the court granted. According to the postmaster of Kalgnat his postage “bought his workers a hot meal for three weeks in summer and a newborn’s shoes.”
In the meeting with the royal treasury and head of the navigational guilds, McGuire presented the original travel documents from the Newreyan exhibition, ship logs and conclusive evidence of settlement, including a copper Druvian Pendant with a smooth marble carving of a man wearing an mercantile Nuganji garment. In exchange for government backing for funding the exhibition, McGuire reportedly landed a lump payment of 54 million Krona.
The first fleet was captained by Hans Trúathi Andersen, abord the Öljyiset-Pallot, a steam-powered naval fortress said to have been commissioned specifically to haul up to 50 live cattle, along with her sister ships, the Fedtet-konditor, an elite albeit smaller ship equipped with electric generators and advanced mining equipment and the governing elite. And finally, the Tykagurk, The ‘insurance’ of the colony. Containing a large supply of weapons, explosives and fortification materials, the large hull of the ship was also designed to transport large shipments of resources back to Asura. Leaving the port of Nebilgen in June 1792, the voyage was dubbed the Treenighed.
The arrival of the Treenighed on March 12th at the western approach to the strait became the first permanent Asuran presence in what would become Mardki. The area a hospitable coastal plateau of fertile soil and gentle sloping hills with abundant game. In the words of Captain Hans Trúathi Andersen, “it was so beautiful we wondered if we died on the ships and sailed to the great afterlife!”.

This first settlement was named Treenighedsby, after the trinity of ships that had delivered the colonists to the virgin coast. And prospered well under the command of Captain Anderson. First constructing the Trinity Lodge to serve as a long-house for the present settlers, and in the following months became the town-centre of the Lhedwic colony.
However, unable to control his addiction in Kalgnat, McGuire had opened the LSMC to the public markets, attempting to court the middle classes with tales of exotic civilisations, and hospitable climates. A massive LSMC campaign was launched, and spokespersons even founded ‘Savai Associations’ in the cities of Nebilgen and Graylund hoping to attract investors. However, despite the promising measures, McGuire had absolutely no proof apart from the Newreyan navigation logs, all translated by him into Navish. The exaggeration of the hospitality and wealth of the indigenous population only grew after the Trinity had set sail south. It is a matter of debate how McGuire had managed to raise stock in the LSMC based on such little information. Leading theory posits the recent acquisition of Nordhurlant to have driven an enthusiasm and confidence in the merchant classes for colonial investments, while other historical theories suggest competition against other Asurian powers and the birth of Lhedwic nationalism brought the military elite on board with establishing a presence in Savai. Regardless of the causes, LSWC became a booming company overnight, raising an additional 124 million Krona from a combination of private investment and middle-class stocks.
The return of the Tykagurk to the port of Nebilgen on the 6th of November 1762 had enthralled the city’s merchant classes who eagerly awaited news from captain Andersen. Upon hearing of the success in a speech at the Nebilgen Banking Corporation, confidence in LSWC was assured. McGuire himself was not in Nebilgen at the time to the dismay of investors. Only the intervention of the Naval Guild was McGuire found at the port of Berke about to depart on a leisure ship along the gulf of Alemannia.
Upon returning to the LSWC, McGuire found great success and profits brought back from the first exhibitions. Sugar and Rubber was plentiful in the southern continent, and McGuire retired in luxury upon selling the LSWC to the re-organized department of commerce in 1812.
However, the story of Mardki only began from this venture. With the mass of investment into the company, several colonial towns had been established from Port Vihainen-kotilo

1: The wreck of a moored Cuirpthean ship ultimately lead to the conclusion of Asuran presence in the area. Records indicate a Cuirpthean scouting vessel going missing in a storm in the Majulan Gulf west of the Savai continent in 1752, captained by Sir Patrick McGuire at time of disappearance.
Any other info you wish to add (Optional): Although lacking a centralized religious authority for the indigenous faith of ‘Ruedism’, historically, the people followed the wisdom of the Triune – a triumvirate of monks from three monasteries, one to guide the hearts of the people, one to guide their pride, and one to guide the piety of the people. However, only one of the monasteries is still operational today. However, with the return of key texts and with the work of archaeologists, debate has arisen over re-establishing the Triune.

IC nation name: Bauernfeld
Capital: Bauerndorf
Government type: direct democracy
RP population: ~640,000
Ethnic Group(s): 99% Bauerner, 1% other
Language(s): Alemmanic
GDP per capita (USD): $65,213 (37,264 gelds)
HDI: 0.95
Brief background of nation (or IIWiki): Overlooked for the most part by major powers due to its very low population density. Peasants there formed a peasant confederation to protect themselves. Fought off a couple of ambitious feudal lords and managed to retain independence for thousands of years until modern times, where the individual villages all merged into a single city. Often referred to by its denizens as the Volkstaat (internationally known as Bauernfeld), a Vertreter (representative) is elected yearly to represent the state in international affairs. All internal affairs are handled by the citizens of each bezirk (borough) in monthly mass meetings. In times of war, the Vertreter can extend their term by an extra year on ratification from each of the nine bezirks. While there is no written rule prohibiting multiple renewals of a Verstreter's term, precedent usually only allowed a single renewal. These emergency powers were abused by Konrad Schurke during the Second Great War, organizing his CVP (Christian People's Party) to extend his term multiple times, declaring himself Kanzler and staying in power for eleven years until his assassination in 1939. This period was known as the Kanzleramt. After his assassination, the CVP collapsed and a new written amendment was approved by the bezirks to limit emergency powers to a single term renewal.
Map claim (Imgur): on discord

Geography and climate of nation: Fertile plains, temperate climate.
How will your nation fit within the existing regional power structure? (strengths/weaknesses): Strengths - has flown under the radar for the majority of its history. Weaknesses - direct democracy can lead to slow action and change. Defense is organized by borough, no centralized army.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: Make it smaller? IDK.

How did you hear about Aeia? Searching RP regions in the NationStates search function.
What other nations do you use on NS? N/A

Country Information:
  • Official Name: Hafar Republic
  • Shortened Name: Hafar
  • Capital: Hamada
  • Requested Location: https://i.ibb.co/C9cHSmK/Untitled.png; https://i.ibb.co/7SmLXYN/draft-1.png
  • Requested Population: 12 million
  • Requested GDP Per Capita: 11,900 (PPP)
  • Government Type: Unitary bicameral presidential republic
  • Culture: Diverse society. In terms of religion, the population is split into a majority following a death cult religion (more of that in discord), and followers of the Tanit (Timarbian religion) in the country's northeast, and smaller Alydian minority, at proportions about 60%-25%-15%. Due to historic reasons, the country will have some Navish/other colonian influence on its culture, as well as Fiorentine (see Overview). Currently the country highly resembles North African nations like Tunisia and Libya, by mixing bedouin, Arab and European traditions, while having completely different religions and cultures in close proximity.
  • Language: Arabic
  • HDI: 0.721
  • Country Overview: I see several historical eras for this country:
  • Early antiquity: formation of small city-states of the coastal area, which start developing naval trade with the rest of Arabekh, being renowned as excellent sailors. Later, their unification, around 1000 BCE. The slow formation of the modern religion, wars with neighbours in the area. Construction of temples, mostly ziggurats, in the TBN river valley in the northeast, the golden age of this state comes around 500 BCE
  • Classical Antiquity: occupation by the Fiorentines in the 2nd century BCE (or in any period accepted as canon). The first western influence on the state.
  • Late Antiquity to High Middle Ages: centuries of Fiorentine prosperity come to an end. Various tribes, sharing a common religion, advance from the deserts and form a single more centralized state around Hamada. Formation of a new Khalifate. The Khalifate expands to the east. This Khalifate can be used as substitution to the old Khalifate of Fahran, substituting Irsad with this new religion, and reaching as far as Persia and old Romellea. It would spread the religion to the area, influencing all other states. This can help future applicants since they can adapt the religion for themselves, or have their religions borrow some traditions from the death cult and vice versa (e.g.: the religion will set vexillological standards like the muslim one, with all nations stating it as state religion placing its symbol and using red on their flag). This Khalifate, however, will last no longer than 100 years, and would eventually break up into numerous decentralized states by the High Middle Ages. In the same time, countries like Lhedwin could start their colonisation of the region.
  • Late Middle Ages to Great War: The area would remain under the control of the emirs, being only a weak remnant of the past Khalifate, suffering from constant inner instability and civil wars, until being colonised by a western power, most probably Navack/Lhedwin, in 1700s. Another variant is to make it colony of a nation that lost in GW1 or 2, and have an allied-supported riot during the war, which eventually goes out of control and the nation is granted independence after the GW, or a prolonged revolution and civil war with a foreign intervention that again leads to independence. The Lhedwin variant calls for inner instability directly post-GW, again leading to independence in the 20s or 50s, depending on the chosen period. Which variant will be chosen, in case the country is accepted, I will decide depending on the interest of other players in participating.
  • Recent history: the country establishes itself as absolute monarchy after independence. This monarchy lasts for several decades until another period of instability hits the country in the 70s. With foreign aid from socialist states, a civil war starts, and power is taken by a royalist dictator, with big political and ethnical repressions following. The dictator ruled until the early 2000s, forming a strong cult of personality. His oppressive politics held the diverse state together, however, the country remained pretty closed to foreign business. After his death and the fall of the oppressive regime, another civil war started in 2004-2009, that in the end was put to an end by the dictator's successor, with foreign aid (could be used as a local Syrian or Libyan civil war (without ISIS) scenario in case there's interest) Since then the country tries to open to the other world, started to exploit its tourist potential and exports oil and gas to Asura and its neighbours, while in the same using its potential of cheap labour force to attract western companies and developing its destroyed industry. Still, it suffers from internal instability and is still an authoritarian regime, with religious oppression taking place in its isolated areas from time to time.

  • Geography and climate of nation: Speaking about geography, most of the country is a desert with an arid climate. The north is mountainous, with low mountains and hills on the border with Timarbia and along the eastern border. The northern coast of the country has Mediterranean climate, and a distinguishable feature are several big salt lakes in the east part of the country. Geo-topo map: https://i.ibb.co/4gZQ4Lm/Hafar-geo-topo.png
  • Economy: economically-wise, the basic idea was shown in history, all the details will be determined, but tourism and light industry are the biggest sectors, with fossil fuel exports and heavy industry being second-biggest, and other major industries include fishing, construction materials (concrete, sand, etc) and agriculture, mostly focused around palm oil.

[*]Strengths and weaknesses: as a typical North African nation, this concept has the same strengths and weaknesses as the representatives of that region: solid amount of natural resources and big cheap labour force with perspectives for future growth, but plagued by instability, authoritarian regime, corruption, diversification of society and inequality among its citizens

IC nation name:Autonomous Region of the Valdinas
Capital: Librizzi
Government type: Autonomous region subdivision of Atresca. A "presidential republic", an elected regional governor and legislature with devolved powers.
RP population: 575,902
Ethnic Group(s): Sicilians, Italians, some Maltese.
Language(s): Sicilian (Valdinian; Regional), Italian (Atrescan; National)
GDP per capita (USD): $19,500
HDI: 0.851
Brief background of nation (or IIWiki): Initially home to a series of !Greek colonies, the islands gradually came under the control of ethnic Atrescans. They were part of the Fiorentine Empire and later acted as a small, independent regional power for several centuries. The Valdinas sided against the Atreascan League during the Pontifical War. Despite the Midrasian victory, the islands themselves were defeated anc conquered prior to the end of the conflict. Since then, the Valdinas have not been independent, but have retained a strong cultural identity. They became part of the Kingdom of Atresca following unification in 1858. Following a political instability, economic downturn, and a low-level insurgency the Valdinas were granted special status as an autonomous region. It has special devolved powers but remains a part of the Kingdom of Atresca and has no sovereignty. The monarch of Atresca serves as the titular monarch of the Valdinas. However, the region popularly elects its own executive (the Regional-Governor) and legislative assembly (The Valdinian Senate). Many of its parties are regionally focused, with some supporting independence or further devolved powers.
Map claim (Imgur): Circled in red

Geography and climate of nation: The Valdinas are two small islands located off of Mainland Atresca in the Asur Sea. There are two islands: Valdina (the eastward island; the main one) and Furnari (westward). Most of the population lives in Valdina, an island defined by hills and plains. Furnari has a rocky and jagged coastline and a mountainous interior, while parts of its coastline are flat. The islands have a Mediterranean climate and experience weather patterns similar to the Greek island of Crete.
How will your nation fit within the existing regional power structure? (strengths/weaknesses): It will be an autonomous sub-division of Atresca. Historically, it will at times be a local, independent power but will lose that role by the 14th century when it is absorbed into other Atrescan powers. In the present day, it provides a point of contention for nations in the Asur region and political complications for Atresca and its allies.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: Lower GDP per capita and HDI

How did you hear about Aeia? Been before
What other nations do you use on NS? Estmere, Piraea, Crethia
Roleplay sample (Optional, though required for claiming a more powerful role):

Any other info you wish to add (Optional): Pricey and I have discussed this at length and he has approved.

IC nation name: Özen Khanate

Capital: Xansaray/Khansarai

Government type: Elective Absolute Monarchy

RP Population: 5.1 million

Ethnic Group(s): Özen (Kazakh), Türük (Turkmen), Transcandarian

Language(s): Özen (Kazakh), Nafri (Farsi), Türük (Turkmen), Altgöl (Karluk)

GDP per capita (USD): $5,700

HDI: 0.56

Brief background of nation (or IIWiki): Despite possessing a common cultural identity with its southern neighbor stretching back to the seventh century, the Özen Khanate only began to develop as a distinct and well-defined geopolitical polity in the thirteenth century when Tuman Khan, the leader of the Douglats, managed to subdue and unify all Türük north of the Transcandar Mountains. He was proclaimed Khagan in a Kurultai hosted in 1258 CE and in the following years led his horde through the Balanmor Pass and through the Khaanazam Trail to harry the less well-fortified settlements of the region. Özen oral histories maintain that he wrough much havoc and amassed much booty, but was later killed while leading a campaign in Nafran or Transcandar. Uncontested Doughlat dominance on the steppes lasted a mere fifty years after his death as his sons, brothers, and nephews began jockeying for supremacy.

A state of disorder and intermittent tribal conflict persisted on the steppes until the consolidation of the Azar Khanate, centered on the important trading city of Qaradagh, in the middle of sixteenth century. The Azar tribal confederation proved more enduring and administratively capable than their Doughlat predecessors, forming a close partnership with Nafri and Transcandarian merchants and investing in urban centers and commercial infrastructure. They popularized the cult Zuhanna, goddess of the moon, silk, and crafts, likely borrowing from earlier deities that originated in the east. The most famous ruler of the Azar Khanate, Abylai Khan, is best remembered for constructing the palatial complex, gardens, and local shrine at Astmara. The House of Bozğıltroze began a slow decline at the beginning of the eighteenth century before a confederation of Kalsha and Argyn tribes led by the House of Yagataş deposed them in 1732 CE, marking the official beginning of the Özen Khanate.

The country remained a comparable backwater until the later part of the eighteenth century when Erasyl Morza, grandson of Kaskyrbai Khan, commenced a project of rapid and sustained modernization, prioritizing Isfirghaz and Astmara. His reforms, which included the large-scale introduction of cannons to the military, the development of a formalized governmental bureaucracy based in Khansarai, the construction of the first paved roads across the steppes, and an overarching policy of stringent centralization alarmed traditional tribal elites who had the prince assassinated at a kurultai in 1795 CE. This brought an abrupt halt to reforms in and initiated a string of enfeebled khans who relied on kinship networks and marital alliances to project power beyond the twin centers of Khansarai and Astmara.

Things changed dramatically at the turn of the beginning of the twentieth century. The assassination of Erol Khan by the conservative Azure Sky Faction precipitated the ascent of his formidable son Ruslan Khan to the throne. Ruslan rapidly crushed all political opposition and then proceeded to modernize the military in a way that had not been attempted since Erasyl Morza, introducing mechanized units and early airplanes. He prioritized investment in silk and cotton over subsistence pastoralism which produced meat and wool, transforming the Özen Khanate into an exporter of raw materials again. The discovery of silver deposits in the northern Transcandar Mountains enabled the khan to indulge in these projects and tighten his grip on power. His most enduring legacy in architectural terms was a shrine dedicated to Ataş-Batyr, god of fire, metallurgy, the hearth, and life, which doubled as a mausoleum for the House of Yagataş, who revere Ataş-Batyr as their patron deity.

Following the death of Ruslan Khan in 1984, the Özen Khanate began a slow descent as his son and successor, Tazhibai Khan, proved reluctant to govern with the same iron will as his father, being more content to spend his time with his harem or feasting in Astmara. Tribal elites, local governors, multinational corporations, and military officers have capitalized on the current khan's bumbling, hesitant nature to further their own interests, even as conflicts have begun to arise between his children over succession. Tazhibai Khan is in ill health at the moment, and the vultures have already begun to circle.

Map claim (Imgur): Here.

Geography and climate of nation: The Özen Khanate is dominated by sprawling semi-arid steppes, which are punctuated with increasing frequency by hills, valleys, crags, and dense groves of coniferous vegetation as one moves from north to south, finally culminating in the formidable Transcandar Mountain Range, which separates the Özen Khanate from the more hospitable climes to the immediate south ruled by Transcandar. The climate fluctuates between moderately hot in the summer, averaging 32°C in July, and bitingly cold in the winter, averaging -22°C in January. Rainfall is sparse across the entire country with the highest documented precipitation occurring in the border town of Zamyn in late February and early April and in Astmara from late March to late April. The country has a large number of rivers, which have historically served to connect it to the outside world.

How will your nation fit within the existing regional power structure?: The Özen Khanate has a historical rivalry with Transcandar to its immediate south despite their cultural overlap and the relationship between the ruling families of both countries has been fraught with betrayals, marriages, and territorial disputes. Additionally, the country has adopted a great many influences from Nafran, beginning as early as the establishment of the Azar Khanate, who relied on Nafri merchants to keep the economy afloat. In summation, the Özen Khanate is a would-be satellite state that has somehow managed to hold its own in the past but whose government has been increasingly tepid and vulnerable of late.

If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: I could lower the GDP per capita a bit and possibly remove the country's military defenses aimed at impeding an invasion through the Balanmor Pass and Khaanazam Trail.

How did you hear about Aeia? I don't even remember at this point.

What other nations do you use on NS? Fahran

Roleplay sample: You've seen my role-playing, even though I haven't made an actual RP post in around a year.

The climate fluctuates between moderately hot in the summer, averaging 89°C in July, and bitingly cold in the winter, averaging -22°C in January.

Fahran

Other:
  • Factbook: nah
  • RP Samples: Gaia thread as Dulebia, previous work here which rests in RIP
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: Dulebia, Romellea (Rest in RIP)
  • Anything else?: meow

Language: Kowk-Avki (Uzbek), Ozen (Kazakh), Nafri (Farsi)
GDP per capita: $3,300-$4,700
HDI: .41
Brief Background:
Elders claim that the descendants of Kowk and Avki have always lived in the area. While the legitimacy of the claim is weak, many Kowk-Avkians choose to believe it. The origins of the couple are unknown, though some clans teach that Kowk was from Ozen and that Avki arrived from lands beyond the ocean. For centuries the descendants have of Kowk and Avki lived nomadically.

Until recently, people have continually rejected modernization. Under the guidance of the young Akmal, the Dustov clan settled permanently, calling it Boshlan. Akmal sent couriers out into the ancestral lands to invite anyone who could prove ancestry of Kowk and Avki. As the settlement began to grow, the many clans who lived in the vast rural areas began to seek cooperation with Boshlan. Eastinelly creating the nation of Kowk-Avki. All clans began to send representatives to the city to ensure legislation in their favor.

Map Claim: https://imgur.com/a/dm2c3ub (relativity)

Geography:
Kowk-Avki’s land is an arid one. The north has little vegetation, it is a cold wasteland in the winter and a slightly bearable desert in the summer. Life is more plausible in the south, though still dry the climate has a semi-comfortable summer. The Nafri border is home to some mountains and as one travels eastward, one will discover more hills accompanying the steppe.
How will your nation fit within the existing regional power structure? (strengths/weaknesses):
The nation has some minorities, who don’t have any proper representation. These groups cause civil unrest until they are dealt with, diplomatically or not. However, Kowk-Avki is a fairly new nation and its future is uncertain. The nation has a great ability to grow.

If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?:
Reduce GDP, Reduce Population, open to anything.

Brief background of nation (or IIWiki): Mandai, known affectionately as the 'Pearl of the Orient' and 'Lotrič of the East' to name a few, was originally a fishing village and market town of Wáhngjau founded in 746 AD, settled since at least 4,000 BC. Under centuries of steadfast rule by mayors, Mandai slowly but surely transformed into one of western Catai's most prosperous and major sea and trading ports. Eventually the city-state came under joint Midrasian and Newreyan rule In the 19th century, when international attention to Mandai grew due to Asuran recognition of its economic and trade potential at the notYangtze; carving out a "free" Mandai would allow capital to stream into the city from all over the world and boost the value of even the most barren land.

As a result of this arrangement which lasted til' Mandai's independence in the mid 1900s, the city-state became a leading, global center for finance, innovation, and transportation, and the Port of Mandai is among the world's busiest container ports, still being the case to this day, having a major capitalist service economy characterised by low taxation and free trade and hosting one of the largest concentrations of ultra high-net-worth individuals of any city in the world. Although the city has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world, there is severe income inequality among its residents. Featuring several architecture styles such as Art Deco and shikumen, the city is renowned for its skyline, museums, and historic buildings. Mandai is also known for its unique cuisine, distinctive language, and vibrant international flair, where the East meets the West. Every year, the city hosts numerous national and international events, including Mandaii Fashion Week, the Mandai Grand Prix, and MandaiJoy (trade fair).

Red plot to the left of Wáhngjau: Not sure if that amounts to a minimum of 6,341 km2, so feel free to adjust if necessary.

Geography and climate of nation: Mandai is located on the notYangtze Estuary of Catai's west coast, with the notYangtze River to the north. The land is formed by the notYangtze's natural deposition and modern land reclamation projects. As such, it has sandy soil, and skyscrapers are to be built with deep concrete piles to avoid sinking into the soft ground. It is located on an alluvial plain and has many rivers, canals, streams, and lakes, and it is known for its rich water resources.

Mandai has a humid subtropical climate, experiencing four distinct seasons. Winters are chilly and damp—northwesterly winds from notSiberia can cause nighttime temperatures to drop below freezing. Summers are hot and humid, and occasional downpours or freak thunderstorms can be expected. In summer and the beginning of autumn, the city is susceptible to typhoons, which have not caused considerable damage in recent years. The most pleasant seasons are generally spring, although changeable and often rainy, and autumn, which is usually sunny and dry.

How will your nation fit within the existing regional power structure? (strengths/weaknesses): Mandai would serve a similar role to the likes of Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore with their advantages and disadvantages.

If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: GDP, HDI...Otherwise up for discussion.

Roleplay sample (Optional, though required for claiming a more powerful role): *From a previous region, The Independent Order*

Swastria and East Moreland may have been neighbours for centuries, but official contact between the two realms had been kept to a minimum at most due to historical precedents, and it was only through trade that it existed at all. It wasn't until modern times however, that restrictions imposed on the communicative channels were finally lifted and relations started to blossom. So one could've imagined the curiosity and excitement of the Swastrian people, as they would've experienced for the first time in their lives a visit conducted by the King of East Moreland in order to officially open the latest temple belonging to the Cult of Helus; luckily for the Cultist minority, it seemed that the inhabitants of Wean were tolerant enough to allow such a non-Christian building of religious character to exist in the first place, thanks to the referenda which took place some time ago.

As for King Karl IV and Queen Francesca, this day would've started quite early for them as they recently returned to the capital city after enjoying skiing-and-spa-weekend in the Swastrian Alps located a few hours outside, complete with their own cabin and beautiful views that overlooked the valleys and lakes beneath; their first child of three was too busy with Uni. studies in the attempt to acquire a PhD, whilst the other two catched the flu and were lying in bed. It was probably for the better as the royal couple needed some deserved relaxation for a few days before returning to proper duties, as it also meant that they would've been the only ones to attend the temple ceremony.

Managing to only gain a few hours of napping, Karl and Francesca were nonetheless looking forward to this special occasion and the opportunity to finally witness their Morelander counterparts in reality rather than relying on the media to provide their appearances and perception one may have developed around them; this had also been among the most sincere wishes that became true for the Cultist minority who'd established a firm presence in the Royal Confederation for the past centuries or so, and the Swastrian King's predecessor and father was considered to be their key friend for many decades whilst he was still alive. Before leaving the Hofburg Palace, located in the historic city centre which acted as the Winter Palace of the Royal Family, the duo were dressed in appropriate attires befitting this ceremony which included hints of red paired with jewelry and medallions belonging to their respective orders that they belonged to.

Normally the King and Queen would've used a limousine, but due to the circumstances of the upcoming event decided to instead utilize a highly extravagantly decorated golden carriage, which signified the wealth that Swastria posessed and driven by Lipizzaner horses, associated with the nearby Spanish Riding School of Wean, where they demonstrate the haute école or "high school" movements of classical dressage; the horses at the school are trained using traditional methods that date back hundreds of years. When the carriage made its way through the city centre, one wouldn't have only noticed that the amount of citizens taking the same route to the temple itself, but also the intensively high security protocals that were undertaken, which precisely included the active involvement of the Federal Police patrolling the streets and rooftops. The King trusted their capabilities in ensuring a smooth event, so only needed to focus on hosting his Morelander guests.

Once the King and Queen arrived by the temple and stepped out of the carriage, media presence were already gathered there and bystanders kept at a distance by the law enforcement. Karl took a deep, reassuring breath before taking Francesca under the arm leading her to a designated spot where they would spectate the ceremony. Midday happened to be upon them soon and whatever followed would be intriguing to see for one's self.

Every year, the city hosts numerous national and international events, including Mandaii Fashion Week, the Mandai Grand Prix, and MandaiJoy (trade fair).

Map claim (Imgur): https://imgur.com/ZYo54Za

How did you hear about Aeia? Through NS search.
What other nations do you use on NS? Statum Ecclesiasticum

IC nation name: Souna | The Callipolis of Souna | Καλλίπολις της Τσουνάδας | Tsounáda | Kallipolis tis Tsounádas
Capital: Nelyma
Government type: A technoratic aristocratic (in the style of an aristokratia, not an 'aristocracy' of nobility) hegemony.
RP population: 11-15 million people.
Ethnic Group(s): Sounans, Atrescans.
Language(s): Sounan (Greek)
GDP per capita (USD): 57,000 ~
HDI: 0.935 | GINI: 60 or higher ~
Brief background of nation (or IIWiki): The Sounans migrated from the mainland parts of the continent to their south by way of a maritime empire. Originally part of a colonisation effort in the years of roughly 400 BCE, the founded city of Nelyma would rise to become the most prominent city of the Sounan thalassocracies. Nelyma became so powerful it engaged itself in numerous wars against its original colonisers, successfully wrestling control of other islands and important cities from them since, including territories on the mainland. It was Nelyma which sent Sounan coloniser what would become Valdinas.

What was known as the Nelymean Confederation, League of the Cities or even as the Empire of Nelyma would collapse under its own corruption, broadly expansive multi-state direct democracy and from the threats of internal invasion. However, Nelyma would go on to wage unsuccessful wars in attempts to cling onto the furthest reaches of its empire, including the colonies in Atresca and Valdinas -- which it would, of course, lose. Whilst changing hands from external threats and enemies, including neighbouring regimes from the continent, Veleaz and Midrasia. In 1109, cementing its power, the Troping Merchant Republic successfully conquered the city. This procedure would continue for roughly the next 700 years, in which numerous rebellions and periods of independence rose. For instance, in 1200, Nelyma rose up and reconquered much of the Sounan territories under its control. Yet by 1340, it had been subjugated again after a humiliating defeat.

True testimony of independence emerged in 1858, with the centralisation of the Atrescan state. The Sounan states that were under its control rallied and unified, declaring the Republic of Souna in 1858 as well. Souna's political fragmentation, including the deeply republican values of the urbanite populations of the coast, entrenched a deep divide in the nation that would continue to cause tensions. Successive regimes of free-trading, pro-business republicans would cause the ire of rising nationalist, socialist and conservative movements.

Numerous insurrections and rebellions plagued the state, which encompassed all of the Sounan speaking world (what has been called 'Fat Italy'), for numerous periods throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries.

In the Second Great War, Souna declared war on Veleaz and the Federation of Socialist Republics and suffered horribly. Much of the east and south of the nation (the bits that are not currently controlled) were occupied. However, after the peace of 1942, the country was allowed to be reunified following a successful offensive that liberated roughly 60% of the occupied territories.

However, by 1980, the situation had become so dire that much of the territory that was previously occupied rose up against the 'Republic of Souna', toppling it in essence. That state was split in two, (if this is fine), with the portion I control reforming from a republic to an older form of government in a huge period of reactionary sentiment. The military couped the republican government that had been viewed as inadequate, arguing that republicanism wasn't a form of Sounan government, and needed to revert to true 'Sounan' political philosophy: things birthed by Nelyma. And so they devised a system based on old Sounan texts that advocated for a rule of strong expertise, which also came alongside such radical reform as the abolition of private property, the collectivisation of all agriculture, industry and service sectors and the complete and total equality of women and men. The leaders of the 'Callipolis' are called kidemónes, given their position as 'guarding' and 'leading' the state for the common good.
Map claim (Imgur): Here!

Geography and climate of nation: Predominantly a Mediterranean island climate. Its coastlines are, usually, well suited for naval travel, it contains an assortment of natural harbours, bays and wonderful beaches. The portions of the state that are on the mainland are marked by a mountainous coastline, but the southern portions are far more plains/flatland and grassland.
How will your nation fit within the existing regional power structure? (strengths/weaknesses): It is not a particularly strong nation, mainly concerned with maintaining the support of states such as Atresca, who the new regime regards as an ally rather than a historic point of contention. It is not agreeable towards the FSR, even though it shares large portions of its economic theory from it.
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: Lower GDP P/C (which is, as GINI says, highly unequally distributed) and the HDI.

How did you hear about Aeia? IIwiki/discords.
What other nations do you use on NS? None that I can recall.

RP population: 73,985
Ethnic Group(s): Valdinian, Atrescan, assorted migrants
Language(s): Valdinian, Atrescan
GDP per capita (USD): N/A
HDI: N/A
Brief background of nation (or IIWiki): Salemi-Pedicatia is a city within the autonomous region of Valdinas in Atresca. With a population of almost 74 thousand, it is the third largest city in the region. Built on ancient !greek ruins, the city was developed by the Fiorentines as a seaside retreat for wealthy merchants and senators. While originally a centre for wine and other high-income economic activities, the town was relegated in importance following the city's involvement in a servile uprising led by several populist senators and never regained its wealth. The city became a centre for fishing in the medieval era, which has remained the case with the development of a sardine canning plant and the home of a large fishing fleet. The city is also a centre for radical politics, with the town council dominated by radical left-wing political parties, including anarchists and valdinian separatists.

IC nation name: Republic of Tricladia Poblacht na tTíre Cladaighesiadh
Capital: Bríonaire
Government type: unitary parliamentary republic
RP population: 33.5 mio.
Ethnic Group(s): mostly (like 90%) Seadic-speaking Celts (closely related group to Cuirptheans), minorities of Lilledics and Lhedwinics along the coast, minorities of a Fiorentine group in some cities and towns, minorities of an unrelated group in some areas
Language(s): Goidic (official national language) + minority languages (see above)
GDP per capita (USD): 36,750 (nomnom); 37,400 (PPPPPP)
HDI: 0.813
Brief background of nation (or IIWiki): Tricladia (Tír Cladaighesiadh) is a country which was founded on very democratic principles of equality between its nations (the Seadic majority and the various minority groups), however, the Seadic majority now has an assimilating power due to law and many accuse the democratic system of the state to have been corrupted and to be on the way of transitioning out of democracy. While its countryside is agricultural, cities have initially been industrialized, though they now are transforming to the service sector. The infrastructure is well-developed, for the most part, though its maintenance state is rather dubious in some areas, especially poorer ones. Wealth inequalities are rising, though they are already significant. Most notably, the state itself participates in the redistribution of financial resources from poorer areas into wealthier ones, though the problem does not only occur on a municipal level, but on all levels of society. This is fuel for tensions which could errupt at any time.
Map claim (Imgur): https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/ ... 62/Map.png (red in the south, next to Cuirpthe)

Geography and climate of nation: mostly flat, with some hillier areas; pretty comparable to neighbours, though natural resources should be figured out
How will your nation fit within the existing regional power structure? (strengths/weaknesses): location and economy might be considered strengths, depending on nat. res., this might be the case even more so. Historically, it is supposed to have been a force that cannot decide whether to be pro-Cuirpthe or anti-Cuirpthe, which might be worth getting explained (essentially, Cuir gets a new partner and/or enemy uwu).
If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: weaker military and economy. Higher Gini, lower GDP. More corruption, unnecessary bureaucracy and less democracy

How did you hear about Aeia? It was like a vision from Alydian himself!
What other nations do you use on NS? Similia Hilmania and Finstria (though not under these account names)
