lmao
>short hair
Boyo, it's five inches maximum length on top of male heads so long as it doesn't cover ears or eyebrows. Must be combed back or over/across when in uniform or be naturally fluffy to avoid hanging down like your some English Sheepdog.

Still gonna give it my best shot though. Not gonna let military mustaches die off. I'd feel like a hypocrite for coming on here talking about how great mustaches are and posting pictures of French WWI soldiers with badass mustaches only to enter the military myself and be clean-shaven.

One can only get away with so much my fungi associate, only so much.
I walked into work this morning with my hair at just under out-of-regs and forgot to shave, but that hardly looks out of place in our shop where every other guy has a shaving profile. My team leader caught me and told me I had until the end of lunch to fix it, so I went, got my medium fade, no-touch-on-top, clean sweep to the right usual-do, rushed back to the barracks to shave and got some sleep in. Walked back into work and got 'complimented' for doing as I was expected. I've been told my next step is to now arrange my hair like my sergeant's given that he actually has grown his out entirely and just slicks it across and back along his part to hide it under his PC.
No way to make moustaches not look bad for at least a month. You're going to end up looking like you belong in the fifties pornos, and then regular movies from weeks 1-5 and then 5+ respectively. As for your hair, it all gets clipped off at BCT, at least three times, four at most unless you get injured or held over. God help those sorry bastards in holdover platoon at all BCT units under TRADOC. Actually, you can grow a moustache already? Looks like you'll be fine once you hit big army, or even AIT. You should just be able to grow that sucker out over a few weeks and you'll be good. It can't be touching your nose and needs to be even and trimmed to not exceed the corners of your mouth. For more info, just look up Army Regulation 670-1 for all your uniform questions and loop-holes. Do note individual units oft have officers that put out memos that further restrict actions not specifically barred in the Regs.

How do the paychecks work? Do you have money to spend or do they give you an allowance for things?

They automatically sign you up for auto-deposit when you enlist, or they should have.
Paychecks arrive promptly on the 1st and 15th as Gallia pointed out with the TL strip. In BCT, you won't be spending most of that, you'll be intially 'given' $300 on a little gift-card of sorts. That $300 mind you is from an advance pay on your first official pay check. That is not free money, do not treat it as such. On top of that, you'll be afforded trips to a small 'shoppette' for buying essentials, during which you'll be expected to pull money from your card to pay for it. Some BN's allow for visits to the ATM, this is your best chance to pull out extra money and prepare for any major gift-opportunities you want to buy, but be aware that money also is a hard commodity to keep a hold of in BCT. Getting it stolen in the middle of the night by the bay's shitbag fireguard or resident thief will make you look like an asshat if you say anything to the DS about it and like an easy target if you don't. Be smart about how much money you have on you in the end, it's not worth losing a bunch to BCT.
Once you get out of BCT, you can receive any number of things based upon where you get stationed for your AIT and then later your units. These are covered under BAH, BAS, and COLA; Basic Allowance for Housing, Basic Allowance for Sustenance, and Cost Of Living Allowance. The majority of these are only notable if you're married, especially BAH as you'll rarely be allowed to live in separate housing at any non-officer or senior NCO rank (E-7+). Then again, dependas are also the brunt of jokes in the Army, so if you have one, be ready to get shit for it on some ends of your otherwise nicely buttered toast.
