I'd like to hear more about what value Vorindeum will provide to the region besides being a boogeyman and why it needs to be an island.

General information
a) Time on Nationstates: Since 2009
b) Previous regions:
  • Guanxi
    Ashazeth
    Sondria
    Nova Sondria [Current]
c) Other nations: N/A

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa
b) Nation's IC population: 62,010,060
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: $32,253
d) Nation's type of government: Absolute Federal Monarchy
e) Nation's head of state: Māori Kīngi
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Pirimia (Prime Minister)

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation:

Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa is a fairly stable Absolute Federal Monarchy and is currently under the reign of Māori Kīngi Tama III Onekawa who ascended to the throne in 1982. Beneath this Head of State government is composed of Parliament. Parliament is a Federal body of politicians which are voted on across the nation every 5 years in a Mixed-Member-Proportional. Parliament is led by the Head of Government who is the leader of the controlling party (or since the introduction of MMP the party coalition that forms the government). However Members of Parliament are ineligible to work in government Ministries, and one of the most unique aspects of Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa is that Heads of Ministries are selected by the ruling coalition from people outside Parliament as non-political experts. Whilst Parliament still introduces and passes laws and policies, implementation is done through the ministries and they have a broad mandate in how much laws and policies are enacted.

The Head of Government is Pirimia Abigail Henare who has won her position in 2017 as the leader of [Insert Central-Left Coalition]. As a Federal Monarchy, Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa is viewed internally as a "Super-Iwi (Iwi = tribe)" and represents the interests of all of Maoridom on the international stage, but is composed of a 12 smaller iwi which each have their own Monarch known as a Rangitira (Chief) and their elected governments which vary from iwi to iwi. Each iwi has broad powers within their own borders, such as the setting of additional taxes, infrastructure projects and supplemental welfare programs and so on. They however can pass no laws that conflict with Federal laws and a few key areas are specifically withheld from iwi influence, predominately foreign affairs and defence.

Culturally Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa is overwhelmingly influenced by its Maori and broader Polyenesian roots and it impacts nearly every aspect of life in Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa. Maori is the single official language and it is mandatory for all citizens to know fluently and taught extensively in schools. Another key aspect is the vale placed on mana and tapu and it dominates affairs in Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa. Although no direct translation into english is possible, Mana can broadly be explained as prestige or standing and maintaining and enhancing it is of significant importance. Mana is also inherited, but those born from low mana families are not limited in how far there mana can rise. The rise and fall of an individuals mana can dramatically impact their personal lives, and mana even exists for institutions and the like.

In terms of physical characteristics, ON is a predominately temperate environment. Northern parts of the country tends towards the sub-tropical, whilst some southerly inland areas are alpine in nature because of the presence of mountains. Large areas of the nation is covered in thick Podocarp-Hardwood Forests with thick undergrowth which gives forested areas a primordial feel. Generally ON temperatures leans towards the cooler side of things, rarely reaching above 25C in summer except for the northernmost areas of the country, but temperatures below freezing is typically rare and widespread snowfall in non-alpine regions is unheard of.

Economically ON has a strong if not outstanding economy with key focus on heavy industries. In recent years there has been a major push towards more tech-focused markets for the purposes of diversification, but time will tell too see ow these develops in the near future. GDP Per Capita stands at $32,253 for a total Gross Domestic Product of $2,000,000,000,105. In terms of energy needs, Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa has always pushed hard for environmentally friend sources of energy and has been uniquely blessed to contain environments that are conducive to such goals. Energy is provided by geothermal (28%) plants, wind power farms (11%), hydroelectrical dams (23%) and solar farms (7%). The remaining 31% is split between Nuclear plants(14%) and more traditional coal power plants (17%).

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Māori, General Polynesian Languages [Further details to be confirmed following discussions with other nations for colonial languages]
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Māori (80.6%), Other (19.4%, Further details to be confirmed following discussions with other nations for colonial populations]
b]d) What are the major religions among your population?[/b]: Māori Paganism, Other (Further details to be confirmed following discussions with other nations for colonial religions)
b]e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?[/b]: I feel like I’ll have to discuss this in more detail before setting anything in concrete. Please read below for a general indicator.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.):

The Onekawa-Nukunoa Armed Forces is composed of three services branches, the Royal Onekawa-Nukunoa Army, Royal Onekawa-Nukunoa Navy and the Onekawa-Nukunoa Air Force. Total size is 671,692 with the largest service being the Army, followed by the Navy and finally the Air Force. The army has two sub-branches, the Royal Onekawa-Nukunoa Parachute Forces and Royal Onekawa-Nukunoa Marine Corps. The absolute priority of the Onekawa-Nukunoa Armed Forces is protection and enforcement of Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa territorial integrity and sovereignty, but has seen a much greater emphasis on a more expeditionary capability in recent years.

g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures:

In many ways Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa could be seen as a competitor for influence against Tsurushima in the western Makrian ocean and shares some broad similarities economically in terms of export industries, such as steel, aircraft and ship-building. This direct competition both economically for control of extremely valuable markets on the economic level, and for political influence within the local sphere allows Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa to act as a counterpart. They even act in opposition on governance, with Ngāti Onekawa-Nukunoa being a strong supporter of monarchical government.

h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? Probably GDP per Capita or a population decrease

f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Prime Minister

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: Medium sized coastal nation, subarctic/humid continental climate, typically found in the north of a continent
History:
After overthrowing Velikoslavia, my country got split into a bunch of little equally sucky lordships and dukedoms. They'll last until 1870 when a radical from my nation's largest city named Dagestan comes along with an idea to unite the country into a sort of Marxist inspired nation. His name is Valdemar Ilyich Rosskosovskiy.
He get's support from the Duke Igor Dementyev who likes his ideas and for the next thirty years they lead their army into conquering Chechenastan until they establish a Communist state in 1900. Rosskosovskiy will rule until his death in 1920.
The People's Socialist Republics of Chechenastan stay successful until an economic crisis in the late 80s wrecks industry not to mention communist states are collapsing. This goes on until 1992 when the government decides to transform into democracy.
The democracy transfer doesn't go so well as there is evidence of corruption not to mention the President elected turns into a dictator with a hatred for the minorities. The minority groups don't like this, they rebel, and my country pretty much becomes Yugoslavia in the 1990s, except in a Siberian environment. The war ends with a peace treaty signed in 2001 and the government and the people decide to go with something that'll make everyone equal without being communist They go socialist.
The country makes a dramatic economic comeback and becomes pretty successful, not like US level production but like Eastern Europe type recovery.
The Civil War might come back though. There is currently disillusionment on how ethnic groups will be fairly represented especially after the dramatic and abrupt changes in the electoral process. The group most furious with this is the Uyghur minority who have always been treated the worst in Chechenastan, there has been riots in their home province of Kunlun and there is a new insurgent group beginning violent attacks against the government
b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Most Slavic Languages, Chechen, Uyghur, Yakut Languages
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Mostly East Slavs, Some Western and South Slavs, Chechens, Uyghurs,Yakuts

e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: Be an upstanding member of Ajax and be a respectable First World country with an emphasis on military power.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): Size currently at 1 million active duty, 3 million reservists, and 3 million militia and police, Service branches are Army, Navy(has marine units), Air Force, Internal Affairs Service (umbrella organization for Coast Guard and National Militia, Local Police), Strategic Forces, Gendarme type police
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Military is decently strong. Conscription is mandatory although better equipment could be necessary, kind of limited to peacekeeping and internal affairs. Being a Rather northern country with Siberian conditions results in oil and mineral resources (especially coal and diamonds), also could have decent crop growth in humid continental area. Main crops would be wheat and potatoes for self-sufficiency and export (potatoes especially for vodka)
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?
Probably in a cooperative manner although personally I would prefer to work out a compromise unless it’s an issue i’m going to lose anyways and badly.
IC Geographical/resource
Wood, Coal, Oil, Precious Minerals, Grain, Potatoes, Fishing

General information
a) Time on Nationstates: Too long
b) Previous regions: A lot
c) Other nations: N/A

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: [Some Kind of Noble-dom] of Norday
b) Nation's IC population: 19,650,000-22,650,000 (I can’t decide)
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: $10,987 (nominal), ~$15,000 (PPP)
d) Nation's type of government: Unitary constitutional monarchy
e) Nation's head of state: [TBD Title] Sophia Charlotte II
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Marshal-General Augustine fan Ordric-Idhelm

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: Norday has been inhabited by Germanic and Celtic peoples since the early Iron Age. Over the coming centuries, these peoples coalesced into various tribal polities that warred with each other and their neighbours. The threat of civil war in 791 C.E culminated in the Old Covenant, leading to the formation of the Folcastede and the writing of the so-called “Book of the Old Laws”, which served as a proto-constitution for the tribal confederation. The so-called Old Covenant would last until the [Empire] invasion of Norday, where the confederation was unified under Solwyn I in order to repel the invasion, creating the First Kingdom.

The First Kingdom would last until the Audonian invasion of Norday, which ultimately led to the lands of Norday being incorporated into the HAE. The First Interregnum saw wealthy merchant republics rise along the North Thalassan, forming [Hansa expy] that would dominate North Belisarian sea trade. A brief Second Kingdom would exist in the mid-15th century as Nordane [Prince/Duke/Count?] would take advantage of internal instability within the HAE. A succession crisis would see the kingdom be reincorporated into the HAE. (See here for a more general idea for history: http://iiwiki.com/wiki/Norday#History)

Norday is a de jure unitary, constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy. However, due to large Vannoisian influence, the nation is an absolute monarchy with a dominant party civilian government. The monarchy utilises enatic primogeniture succession and is the primary executor for the nation. The monarch proposes laws which are then summarily passed by the national parliament, the Folcastede. The Folcastede itself is a 200-member legislative body that, while theoretically is the law-making organ of the Nordane government, serves as a rubber-stamp for laws proposed by the monarch. The head of government is the Marshal-General, who is appointed by the monarch.
b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Old English, Icelandic, Norman, and French.
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Normans are the dominant ethnic group, with small minorities of Ottonians (Onnerians?), Audonians, and Gaels.
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Catharism is the dominant religion among the population. Other heresies of Christianity, such as Catholicism, Lutheranism, etc. are found as well.
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: Not sure, with Belisaria going through its changes and Norday needing a home, it just seemed like a good idea to apply.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): The Nordane military uses state-of-the-art equipment such as the “rifle,” “machine gun,” “tank,” and “jet.”
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Tentatively, Norday seems to be an ally to Vannos, albeit extremely minor, and effectively serves as the “boundary” for BC expansion northward. Likewise, Norday culturally would be quite similar to Ottonia, although more outwardly matriarchal, but not to the extent of a true matriarchy like Lihnidos. As more Belisarian stuff gets worked out and set in stone, Norday’s role and influence can be better established.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? If somebody could explain how they view Norday as overpowered, then I would gladly take steps to reduce its power.

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation:

The origins of modern day Varnans (RL language - Serbian), belonging to the Slavic family of nations, are not well known, except that they are not native to the area where Milostia is now situation. Their ancestors were, in the deep past, a semi-nomadic people, and scholarly consensus seems to indicate an origin area in the borderlands between modern Siveria and Nekulturnya. At various points in their history, they fought with, traded with, or were subjugated by and made vassals of, various peoples. They learnt from their more nomadic neighbours the techniques of horse-rearing, and the composite bow, and from the Germanic tribes in the area the technology of pattern-welded steel swords and spears.

The Varnans began to move west and south in the 8th century. The reason is almost unknown, although climate change, warfare and pressure from population growth are the most popular theories. During the crisis of the 11th century in the Latin Empire, various bands of Varnan horsemen served as potent and well-organised mercenary formations, combining their native talents with the organisational strengths of former cavalry officers of the Latin Army. Some were settled in the borderlands as chiefs of Foederati or vassal states. Most of these proto-realms were ephemeral and did not survive for long. However, at the location where Milostia is now located,a warlord, Stepan I, became secure enough for him to proclaim Principality of Varna in 1057. He was realistic enough to submit to the feudal overlordship of the Audonian Emperor, thereby securing for himself the theoretical protection of the empire. Varna subsequently served in the role of a largely de facto independent (though subject to the nominal suzerainty of the Vannoisian Emperor), culturally distinct, and unusually powerful frontier marcher state. The Principality furnished the imperial forces with a powerful bulwark against incursion from the east. Its light cavalrymen, the ‘Guzars’, later morphing into the word ‘Hussars’, became a model for semi-regular light horse around Belisaria.

Religiously, the Eastern-Rite Catholic Church, which was in full communion with Fabria, worked in tandem with the crown to ensure the stability of the Princely regime. One of its main differences with the more popular variant of the catholic faith was the non-requirement of priestly celibacy, a factor which would prove highly important later in Varnan history.

During the early-modern era, Varna became an increasingly backwards polity, both in terms of political and economic development. The feudal system, as well as serfdom, remained entrenched. The peasantry had few rights and were ruthlessly exploited by their landlords. All that was required was a major spark, as well as an ideology, which would break the Varnans’ traditional adherence to Prince and Church.

During the Lyncanestria Crisis of 1816, when civil war and massed famine swept Varna, a charismatic priest named Peter began to preach to the masses of a new religion. This quasi-gnostic sect has a sophisticated theology, which would have been beyond the understanding of most of his peasant followers. The simplified version which they could have comprehended, however, was that the nobility’s materialism and opulence were signs of insanity and delusion, the manifestations of the the demiurgic dark lord who rules the world. The present order was thus corrupt beyond redemption, and should be replaced by a community of the faithful which would look to the true God and his Angels for salvation.

The Sect quickly spread like wildfire throughout the Principality, and with the army defecting to the rebels en masse, the Prince and his family fled to Vannois. Peter and his followers set up what amounted to a proto-socialist, theocratic peasant’s republic. When Xavier, by now Regent of the Vannoisian Empire, invaded with an army to restore the PRince to his throne, he was met with a perpetual guerilla war with widespread popular support. In particular, his army, drilled in fighting large-scaled pitch battles in the open, struggled to combat the elusive rebels in the dense forests of Varna, armed with flintlock rifles accurate to more than 300 yards. In the end, believing the cause to be not worth the effort, Xavier reached an accord with Peter, wherein the Varna received independence.

Peter renamed his new state ‘Republika Milostia’ - the Republic of Grace. When he died in 1826, he left behind his then-pregnant wife, a charismatic figure in her own right who commanded significant political support. Maria the Preserver was popularly held by the army to be the successor of the Prophet. After he gave birth to Peter’s son, Maria claimed to have experienced a vision, wherein the Archangel Michael visited her and proclaimed that the descendants of Peter, Michael’s incarnation, would be imbued with the Archangel’s Spirit, and thus worthy of succeeding Peter’s mantle. When prominent members of the army’s officer corps showed signs of objection, she launched what amounted to a self-coup, rallying loyalist regiments in arresting and executing those involved. Following this purge, the Prophet’s line of succession was formalised, and Peter’s descendants rule Milostia to this day.

Modern Milostia is run by the Prophet and his or her Council as a totalitarian cult state. It is a small nation, historically largely agrarian although some industrial and urban developments have sprung up in the past few decades with Liothidian (and, formerly, Rhynovian) assistance and investment. Agriculture, coal mining and crude heavy industries still dominate its economy. Successive five-year plans in the mid-20th century had skewed the economy from a purely agrarian and raw-material based system towards a more industrialised mix. In the mountainous northeast, very large quantities of high quality Anthracite coal deposits allow for the nation to be largely self-dependent in energy, and provides a valuable export. Other exports include gold, copper and bauxite from the mining areas, agricultural goods, as well as the output of the nation’s well-developed chemicals and pesticides industry. In recent years, it has integrated further into the greater Belisarian economy to some extent. Its lack of environmental laws and, ironically in a socialist state, union rights creates an environment which is conducive to labour-intensive, low-medium skilled, low-wage manufacturing, including garments, cheap consumer electronics, as well as the waste disposal industry.

In terms of foreign policy, owing to the vehemently anti-materialist stance of the cult, Milostia is traditionally close to its fellow socialist nations, such as Liothidia and Communist Rhynovia. It also aggressively evangelises the Andelist faith in other parts of the world. In many poor countries, Andelist missionaries were the only providers of social and medical services where none would otherwise exist. These same mechanisms are used to export Andelist militancy in these countries.

The most significant political event in Milostian history occurred in 2011, known as the ‘Great Purge’ amongst political commentators, or ‘the Blessed Cleansing’ by Milostian propaganda. The then-Prophet, Slodoban the Corrupt, had attempted to boost the Milostian economy via a program of economic pragmatism, which became necessary in order to counteract the disruption caused by the collapse of the Rhynovian communist regime, one of Milostia’s two main patrons. This resulted in significant economic growth, but also the concentration of wealth amongst the ecclesiastical, security and commercia elites, who profited from the liberlisation. Fundamentalists regarded this as a breach of the core tenents of the Andelist faith. Led by Slodoban’s son, Marcus, the army staged a coup, arresting and executing members of Slodoban’s administration, including Slodoban himself. Inheriting the mantle of the Prophet, Marcus proceeded to initiate a wholesale purge of the beneficiaries of his father’s policy, as well as his political enemies. Marcus the Purifier, as he is now known, remains one of the most powerful and charismatic leaders in Milostia’s history.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Varnan (i.e. Serbian), Audonais, Nekorian, Hellenic
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Predominantly Varnan and Audonian.
d) What are the major religions among your population?: See above
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: Functioning as the southern arm of the socialist block, broaden the scope for geopolitical tension to eastern, especially SE Belisaria,
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): The Army of the Faithful possesses an army of some 205,000 troops in total. Pervasive militarism, indoctrination from a young age, and universal conscription allows the small country to squeeze every ounce of manpower needed in order to defend the faithful against imperialist aggression. The Army suffers in comparison with Liothidia, or its neighbours in terms of funding and technology, but it is still a potent fighting force with a highly professional and politically-reliable officer corps which is well-regarded by analysts.

g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures:

Milostia has a substantial, but relatively backwards (if fairly well-trained), military force. Economically, whilst it excels in some niche areas, it again relies on crude and backwards sectors for growth. Geopolitically, it is very much a vassal of Liothidia, upon whom they depend to survive. Nevertheless, it does have in the current supreme leader, Marcus the Purifier, an assertive and ambitious personality who may be planning to implement a more independently-minded foreign policy.

h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? Reduce population by 3-4 million.

IC Geographical/resource
General lists, we don't expect you to know all the details before joining and getting a map place.See above.
a) What does your nation excel in exporting: See above.
b) What does your nation need to import?: High-value engineered products - gas turbines, jet engines, high-end machine tools,
c) What is your country self sufficient on?: Agriculture, energy (coal), minerals
d) What is your preferred location on the regional map? There are two alternatives as to the placement of Milostia. Option (A) is to situate it around where Estoni once stood. Option (B) is to substitute it for at least half of Rabinovska. As a diplomatically isolated communist state, it must have access to Liothidian aid, either through a land border, or the sea. It does not need both, but it must have one or the other.

Geopolitcally, Estoni’s position is superior, as it would allow the Communist bloc untrammelled ability to project substantial naval power into the north Periclean, thereby threatening the Belisarian Community in its backyard.

In terms of other borders, conjointment with Vannois is also crucial. A border with Nekor is highly desirable.

  • Atlas, regrettably (2014-16)
  • Tiandi (2016-)
  • Ordis (2016-2017)
  • Turenn (2018-2018)
c) Other nations:
  • None at the moment

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: The Association of Free Peoples (Nunaaqqinit in Iñupiatun)
b) Nation's IC population: 9,432,953
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: $18,652 (PPP), $8,283 (nominal)
d) Nation's type of government: Federated collection of direct democratically-administered communities
e) Nation's head of state: People's commissary Kumaruaq (elected 21 June, 2018)
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): None in the traditional sense (see national description)

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: (Sidenote: This isn't as long as I'd like it to be, I didn't really wanna commit to much history)

For much of its early history, civilization in what would become the AFP was decidedly nomadic and non-organized, with no year-round settlements or agriculture. In the 800s, though, the anyaq and qayaq were invented, boats made with skin that allowed for travelling in-between communities. This led to the rise of intercommunity trade, which was unregulated and quickly turned into traders becoming kings controlling small parts of land.

In 1342, these kings were united by Tikasuk, a rich trader who allied or conquered with kings spanning thousands of miles of land. Her reign, and the reign of what became the Tikasuk dynasty, was marked by a violent exploitation of resources to enrich the trader class at the expense of everyone else. In 1652, the Cloudberry Revolution began in Qigiqtaq after a community elder was killed for refusing to give up his cloudberries to the local king. After 17 years of bitter fighting, the rebels won, and the Association of Communities was established as a collection of democratic communities. The Charter of Unification, the constitution of the villages, was refined over hundreds of years, and in 1894 the Association of Free Peoples was formally established.

Despite being a large region, the population density is amongst the lowest in the world, being about 2.7 per square kilometer. This can be mostly attributed to its unforgiving climate, with the majority of it being tundra and over 10% being ice caps. Only the southernmost parts of the region are subarctic, the most temperate in the nation, and most of the settled population lives in these areas.

Today, 9 million people make the AFP home; only 5 million of these people live in a settlement, however, with 4 million of them still living as nomadic hunter-gatherers. Over half of the settled population lives in Unnaqtuq, one of the most temperate cities in the nation, and over 90% lives in one of the four largest cities. Due to the nature of settlements in the AFP, the region has one of the highest doctor to patient ratios in the world, since each settlement usually requires at least one. The region is well known for its world-class healthcare as a consequence of this, and AFP citizens are amongst the longest-lived in the world. Income equality and nonviolence are some of the highest in the world as well; however, things like education and HDI lag behind the rest of the world, and the debate over providing infrastructure to the nomadic settlements is ongoing.

The government is usually described as "Inuit anarchism," with much of its policies adapted from (European?) anarchist thinkers as well as coming out of traditional village management. Each commune votes directly on most issues, with a local committee voting on certain issues determined by the people to be better dealt with by them, and a Council of Community Commissaries (one representing each community) meets whenever an issue is determined to be both out of the scope of the people and of national importance. While the region tends to stay isolationist militarily, it has ties with some of farther-left nations, and it's generally thought that they'll come to the AFP's aid should they ever be invaded.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: The most common languages are Iñupiatun and Inuit Sign Language, with >90% of the nation being fluent in both. Sizable Yup'ik and Tanana minorities exist as well -- several European languages are also increasingly common, as they're required learning in school.
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: While the AFP has no immigration policy, the vast majority of the nation is ethnically Inuit, specifically Iñupiaq. There are Yup'ik and Tanana minorities, however, and some political refugees from throughout the world seeking refuge in a region more accepting of their beliefs.
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Animism is most common, with Christian and Buddhist minorities.
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: It doesn't look like the anarchist role is filled yet, so that one? It would probably be seen as a far-flung, reclusive haven for the far left, accepting of anyone willing to brave the frigid winters.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): There is no organized military, but each community has its own defense, usually made up of between 10% and 40% of the community taking on the responsibility of defending the community. This means that while the equipment is rarely anything bigger than a four-wheeler or a snowmobile, the number of small arms is ridiculously high, and an invasion of the AFP would be incredibly difficult (and also kind of strange).
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: The military strength of the nation is nonexistent outside of the region's borders, so I don't imagine they'd shake up the region all too much. Economically I could see the AFP supplying a lot of the world's metals, and before the 21st century a lot of its oil and natural gas, although past 2004 the amount of fossil fuel extraction was dramatically decreased.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? Yeah of course

b) What does your nation need to import?: Fruits and vegetables, manufactured goods, electronics
c) What is your country self sufficient on?: Power, non-plant food
d) What is your preferred location on the regional map? something like this would be nice (I'm willing to make it smaller, of course)

News post from this year
My resume's a bit thin, since I haven't really done anything NS-specific since 2015 besides the above. I've written other stuff, in fact I want to send a short story I wrote recently, but it's sort of connected to my real-life identity so I'd like to send it privately. Alternatively, I could just write something new based on a prompt. Some people already in Ajax (namely Valaran) can vouch for me as well

Forgive the number edits, I'm currently restricted to an older ipad and it tends to refresh if you look at it funny, so I've been posting this application incrementally so as to maintain progress.

General information
a) Time on Nationstates: From april 2011, not counting the little hiatus starting from July 2015.
b) Previous regions:
    The Darklands
    Ixnay
c) Other nations: None, however, I will likely use a new account for the purposes of this region

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: Skaldafen Confederation
b) Nation's IC population: 91 million
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: $26,500
d) Nation's type of government: Confederated Socialist Autocracy
e) Nation's head of state: First Marshal Saga Oraka
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): First Minister Desolt Fairhair

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: Evil Viking Canada. If a more elaborate explanation is required,

Skaldafen is the nation of a highly restless, adventurous and occasionally violent seafaring people. Originating from far away, they fled to their current home from across the seas and have continued to wander and settle far off lands ever since. In the contemporary world, their formerly bickering warrior states have coalesced into the Skaldafen Confederation. This state is the product of a nationalistic revolution, and has gradually evolved into what is effectively a military state with high decentralization towards democratic provinces. The economy is doing well, in part because the government is willing to tolerate, endorse and subsidize industries that most nations consider criminal, dangerous and immoral.

Link to a wikiesque brainstorming page I've been working through, since any further elaboration would essentially be repeating things I've already typed out in here: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=sco ... id=1131949
Ignore any provided statistics, as they are effectively irrelevant to this application.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Skaldanic, Omiat, Vannois
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Aproximately 50% of the nation is ethnically Skaldafen, but there are three sizeable minorities in the form of the Omi natives, Vannois settlers, and a steadily increasing multi-ethnic immigrant community.
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Athiesm, Palegocism and a wide variety of religious minorities that correspond roughly with the ethnic statistics.
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: A new naval entity, to serve as a somewhat aggressive fringe state.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): The military itself is the national government, so it is technically rather large. The entire legislative and judiciary bodies on a national level are a part of the army, as are the national police and intelligence agencies. Consequently, the actual size of the forces are vastly larger than its fighting force, though even that portion is a large part of the country. The actual fighting army itself is a branch of its own, being divided in turn into four seperate branches.

It is worth noting that there is no Air Force, as pilots and their vehicles are distributed amongst the branches as any other personnel and equipment.

The ground army (SNA), which fulfils the role of a traditional ground force. Heavily emphasizing speed, stealth and firepower, the general doctrine of the SNA is to be as elastic and as hard to pin down as possible. Very air mobile, and will generally avoid fighting altogether when faced with unfavourable conditions.

The navy (SNN), which is the nation's pride and joy. Lots of missile cruisers, aircraft carriers, submarines. Very hit-and-run, with an expansive and experienced marine wing who excel in getting in and out of hairy situations at their leisure. Raids are the name of their game, and new top-of-the-line ships are constantly being set to sail.

The police (SNP), which are both the national police akin to IRL organizations like the FBI and RCMP, as well as the national guard. Likely to be far better equipped than most of their contemporaries on account of basically being a second ground army. If invaded, Skaldafen is likely to repurpose the SNP for combat.

And the intelligence (SNI), which are your generic spooks and amoral lunatics who see civilian casualties as funny numbers and national security as the absolute. Organized into a series of shady and relatively autonomous 'Task Forces', the SNI is responsible for everything between counterterrorism... And state-backed terrorism.

g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: If my understanding is correct, then there's a socialist bloc that's in sore need of a boost. I'd gladly provide a surge of energy in the form of both direct and indirect firepower, and perhaps a bit of indirect instability to a given status quo. I like to bring a bit of uncertainty and menace to the table, and playing the villain is my favourite role. This would be accomplished through violent espionage, undeclared wars, diplomatic weight and eventually armed conflict should the situation escalate far enough. Economically, the goal is to float the weapons market and provide unscrupulous business as a major monetary presence. However, the map location I've asked for is incredibly isolated and this could crop up as a significant weakness if the chips are down.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?: Less power projection, if what I'm proposing is too much. Positional vulnerability can be played up for dramatic effect.

IC Geographical/resource
General lists, we don't expect you to know all the details before joining and getting a map place.
a) What does your nation excel in exporting: Natural resources, heavy machinery, black market goods, cutting-edge scientific development
b) What does your nation need to import?: Luxury goods, agricultural products, retail goods, working age immigrants
c) What is your country self sufficient on?: Energy, oil, construction materials
d) What is your preferred location on the regional map?: Northwestern continent opposite Ghant, with as much coastal land as is considered reasonable. Facing east, and placed as far northeast as can be managed. Ideally, it would be placed on the bulky peninsula analogous to Quebec, stretching along the barrier islands and dipping back along the river/lake system in the middle.

6: Roleplay history
As all my works from before my hiatus are hot garbage, here are two seperate snippets from a DKL project, one taking place concurrently and the second being in the relative past.

Such melting summer nights were the bane of Athela's existence. Sweating through her gear, the muffled drum of boots began to throb in her mind as a second heartbeat. Keeping pace with the rest of her team was the easy part. The distant whirl of sirens rattled the milky air, the stinging gobs of state phlegm clung to the back of her throat. It had all gone wrong, it had all gone according to plan.

"Evac is three kilos out. Double pace, soldiers." Set said, barely breaking stride.

Athela sunk her muscles into the dash, slinging her rifle over her back. "They might still cut us off at bridge 28, are you sure this is the best call, sir?"

"We have assault weapons, Lieutenant." Set said. "They don't."

"Aye-aye."

The team continued their mad dash down a neglected dirt road. Lines of airid hedgerows concealed their movement from either side, their black uniforms sinking into formless shadows. The sharp chatter and eventual waning of a police helicopter harmlessly passed overhead, unable to spot their murky silhouettes amongst the fog. Ridge by ridge, the team passed beneath thorny tangles of droughted trees. Escape was near.

Upon eclipsing the final hill, Set flung himself prone and signalled for the others to follow suit. "Hold up, three men on the road."

Athela unslung her rifle and took the opportunity to catch her breath. Making use of her sight's magnification, she set her gaze on the path ahead. Three policemen, sticking out in their gaudy blue coats. They had set up a roadblock, and their hands rested heavily upon their holsters. This situation was beyond the control of mere police. Athela rested her reticle upon their nervous expressions, remarking to herself about the bad luck these men had run into. "They didn't see us."

"Let's make this quick, we need to cross. Magni, target left. Athela, target right. I'm on middle." Set said.

"On target."

"On target."

"Loose."

In the span of an instant, three visceral cracks rolled out across the hills in immediate succession. Almost at once, the three policemen crumpled over the ground, bloody stains seeping out of their chests. Wordlessly, the team shot onto their feet and resumed their dash. The sirens grew ever more distant as they leapt over the corpses. It had hardly been long before Athela spotted a familiar little range boat parked in the reeds along the curve of a river. "Evac spotted, 160 degrees."

The team piled in without hesitation, scanning the horizon through their sights. There was a Boatman in a uniform matching their own, his patches indicating seniority. "Operation status?" The Boatman asked.

"Total success." Athela said from behind a chipper grin. "The subway was far more packed than we hoped, casualties are sure to be immense."

The Boatman nodded, flicking the engine alive and steering down the river. "Excellent. SNIC will want a full report. Anything to add, Major?"

"We had to kill a few policemen on our way to evac. Should help with the cover story." Set said.

The Boatman smiled. "It will. Radio silence will be lifted once we've hit the rendezvous. Excellent work, gentlemen."

"I hate this country." Athela lamented. "Nothing but lambs."

"To think our ancestors lived in this forsaken maze," Thomond said, watching whatever corners he could wash in torchlight. "What a miserable lair."

"They must've had their reasons. They did little without cause." Domonik said.

Adelaide shrugged. "Just finding our way out is going to prove twice the task as getting in. This place is a bad dream."

Skaggi shook his head. "I do not fear the city. I fear what lines the shadows. You all should feel the same."

"You speak much of your monsters, Stranger. What kind of beast doesn't die to well-placed steel?" Thomond said, holding his torch close to his blade.

"Very few of them." Skaggi acknowledged. "But even the weakest of horrors might even kill an Oracle if it can outnumber or surprise its victims."

The Godly Man nodded. "They're real. We have shown you the waters beyond the barrier, you will see more than what you thought was everything. As the Messengers did, we will."

"Hmph. Let's just keep moving." Thomond said.

In spite of Thomond's assertion, Domonik stopped his pace above a pile of trinkets nestled within a pile of unsightly waste. "Hold on, I've found something."

Skaggi had but a split second to recognize the rotten flicker of something shifting between Domonik's legs. His recognition immediately dropped into a weighty dread. Entirely by adrenaline, he let go a single warning from the back of his throat.

"Domonik, get back!"

Domonik's confused gaze was met with Skaggi's horror.

Crunch.

The chamber rattled with the wet snap of a body being collapsed upon itself. A meaty swirl of viscera spattered back in a crescent, hammered out all at once by a serpentine mass of knotted apendages. Domonik's remains soaked his surroundings, tinting the horrid black stone with a fresh glisten. The creature responsible coiled itself away from the torchlight. It was poised to strike again before the party had even processed its presence.

Muffled by the carnage, the Godly Man declared the truth that Skaggi had been hoping against. "It's an Agarath!"

Skaggi's reaction was electric, but insufficient. Squalid splashes of filth-slathered dust roared into the smog as the Agarath spiralled across the chamber. He managed to loose a single shot at the wispy abomination, but the bullet slung wide along the crypt walls. With erratic fury, the Agarath brought its weight down on Skaggi in a direct body blow. There hadn't been enough time to draw steel before being broken against the stonework.

Flung backwards in a wild flail, Skaggi had barely been dashed against the ground before he underwent the searing pain of bone being cleft. Repeated tumbles against the ground permitted a series of increasingly numb throbs to dominate his senses. Upon reaching an inevitable stop, the frantic struggle to pick himself up soon devolved into strangled convulsions.

An attempt at deep breathing was quickly ruined by a series of sharp, hollow gasps that accompanied the onset of shock. Running a mortician's list of body parts in his head, Skaggi scrambled through a panicked daze to figure out what had broken. Though the whole of his body was shrieking in deadened anguish, it all felt comparatively numb next to the fistful of loose bone now floating in his lungs.

Instinct soon dictated he return his surviving attentions to the monstrosity now darting above him. Skaggi could hear little but the ever-drowning echoes of his companions' shouting. His sight was picking out the dull contours of fires being reflected off a flurry of steel flashes. To his sinking consciousness, the flames were the only thing that he could focus on while all else slowly lost cohesive meaning. It wasn't long after until even that sense sank beneath the dead of night.

c) Other nations:

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: Kingdom of Drevstran
b) Nation's IC population: 50 millions
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: 18,000 USD
d) Nation's type of government: Constitutional Monarchy where the Monarch does not hold executive powers
e) Nation's head of state: Dertzo II
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Mikitai Kouchkri

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation:

Drevstran is the slavic name given to the regions centered around the Drev River and it’s valley. Today, “Drevstran” is used as the official name of the entire country, and “Kolybel” has become in modern time the proper way to refer to the lands directly adjacent to the Drev River.

The country can be divided into three historic and geographic regions. From East to West there’s the well developed and urbanized Solked Coastline ; the Kolybel Valley which was heavily industrialized around the river itself but agriculture become more and more prominent as the distance from the river increase. And then, to the very west, there’s the “Furodommark” plateau, a country of small hills with a culture and heritage very distinct from the rest of the country, and where the Drev take its source.

The Loshyuds arrived in the region of the Drev during the early 9th century. They’re remembered to have plundered the coastline and then went upstream, installing themselves in the Furodommark. Their chieftain, Gerza, had two son who survived to adulthood. One inherited the Furodommark, while the other migrated east with his people and conquered the banks of the Drev River, converted to Orthodox Christianism and crowned himself King of the Drev (Drev Korran).

In the West, the Loshyud Chiefdom took under its protection a community of Alban christian theologians. A generation after, Garza III converted to Alban Christianism, greatly reformed the Loshyuds customs, and started his own spree of plunder and raids while securing the Furodommark as entirely his, and core of the Loshyud Kingdom (Loshyudorstag).

With time, the Loshyud Kingdom was the last one to keep alive the Loshyudor culture and language, while the Kingdom of the Drev slowly Slavicized. The latter also expanded by taking the slavic cities and principalities of the Solked Coast as protectorates.
In the 11th century, the War on the Icons ( Ikonkivoyra ) started in the Drev Kingdom in a context of political fragmentation as decentralized warlords had become the true power, struggling for the position of Palace Mayor, the true ruler of the country. This religious conflict signed the end of the Drev Kingdom and its division between multiple entities : Most of the western region was conquered by the Loshyudorstag, the northern regions became known as the Iconoclast Sevromark under Warlord Karo Karro, and southern Drev became the majority-Orthodox Grand Duchy of Yugstran.

The following period saw the continuous wars between the three entities, for the control of the Upper Drev ( Visoky Drevet or Magras Drevom ) of the banks of the river, or of the coastline which returned to a collection of city-states, themselves struggling to dominate each other. By the end of the 12th century, the situation had shifted a lot, and the Grand Duchy of Yugstran had lost the western half of its “original” lands, but conquered the Solked cities. Meanwhile, Sevromark had conquered back almost all of the old Drev Kingdom, pushing the Loshyuds back to their traditional borders.

The 13th century opened with a new war where the Margrave of Sevromark seized control of the Drevland, pushing the Duke of Yugstran to call the Velikoslavan Emperor for help. Then started a 60 years long war. Ultimately, the Empire won and the Grand Duchy of Yugstran was renamed Poberezh, while the conquered Sevromark was renamed and reorganized into the Duchy of Drevstran. In this period of warfare, the western marches were once again conquered by the Loshyud Kingdom and conflict between the Kingdom and the Empire would continue for decades.

During that time, the Loshyud Kingdom would continue to survive, famed for their horses and bowmen. Most of the wealth came the agriculture and cattle raising, and the kingdom was famed for its horses, bowmen, and wool. Stuck between the Holy Audonian Empire and Valikoslavia, the Alban Kingdom became a potent diplomatic player, serving as a buffer state for either empire when ruled by a weak king, but when their leader were strong willed, it used conflict between the two empires as an occasion for pillages and plunders, making its alliance desirable whenever possible for a campaign against one or the other. Some kings even got as far as to start diplomatic relations with the Latin Empire, to further secure their Audonian Border.

This period of almost 400 years was also a time of many theological development. While the Grand Duchy of Yugstran stayed Orthodox, the Duchy of Drevstran knew many troubles because of the cohabitation between the dominant Orthodox Minority, and the larger and influential Iconoclast minority. In the west, the Albans Loshyuds communities also adopted many Iconoclastics practices, streamlining their place of cults to a single altar in the middle of a very simple church. Even royal shrines were streamlined and decorated with mural paintings of complex geometrical figures, plants, or animals. Painting of humans was only acceptable when in an irreligious context, like a portrait or the representation of an historical event, or when painting specific events of the Bible. The regions of the Drev River Valley conquered by the Loshyuds were especially prolific in that regard.

Soon, the limit between Iconoclasts Orthodox and Iconoclasts Alban became muddier. In fact, the Iconoclasts Orthodox in the Loshyuds kingdom changed many of their belief, which were shared secretly in Drevstran even if repressed by the Empire. Docetism became the more commonly held opinion on the Nature of the Christ. The Christologic War of the 15th that took place in the Duchy of Dravstran saw the major uprising of Iconoclasts Docetians, supported by the Loshyuds Kingdom, against the Orthodoxs, supported by the Grand Duke of Poberezh and the Velikoslavian Emperor. The war ended with the re-installation of both the Orthodox Bishops of Dravstran and of the Docetian Patriarchate. Marriage between the Grand Dukes and the Kings families allowed to secure peace for the decade to come.

In 1690, the Grand Duke of Poberezh died childless and his direct inheritor was the King of Loshyudostag, Farza IV. In opposition, his cousin Yaropolik gathered the support of the Orthodox communities and contested the ducal throne. Once again the Duchy of Drevstran was caught in the middle of the opposed parties. The war ended with the death of Yaropolik at the Battle of Angrast in 1694, and the official conversion of Farza IV to Orthodoxy, which allowed the Emperor to honorably concede the ownership of Poberzeh and the Solked Coastline to the Farza, with all that title implies in term of duties and rights in the Empire. Farza moved his capital to Angrast, which was at equal distance between the Solked Coast and the Furodommark plateau, and took both the Docletian and the Orthodox Patriarchs in his privy council. His son, Farza V, inherited all the titles of his father, but stayed Docetian.

In 1820, both the Audonian and Velikoslavian Empire were gone, shattered because of political and/or religious matters. In that time the “Triple-Crown” took part in both events, as being, in part, a member of Velikoslavia and keeping a keen eye on religious matters in bordering countries. It notably allowed protestants fleeing persecution to install themselves in Furodommark.

By the early 20th century, the “Triple Crown”, often referred as Dravstran because the royal capital, after a bit of back and forth, was now definitively set in Angrast, was under lot of pressure. The economy was still mostly agricultural with only the east and the Lower-Drav that had started to industrialized, and in the middle of a crisis. Government’s finances were bad, and religious conflicts became more and more common, and the popularity of socialism and communists ideas were on the rise. The refusal by the king and his privy council to abandon Absolutism, to make the government’s finances less opaque, started a serie of protests that were violently repressed. These repression led to general Bolsar Hortankh deposing the king Ansmar II in a palace coup, and take control of the capital and its region in 1913. Generals and military commanders opposed or allied to Bolsar began to fight each other, and charismatic religious leaders started to emerge. Hortankh was assassinated in 1914, and so was his successor the General Kumar in 1916. The grand victor of the Civil War was the General Obragga, who was nicknamed “Mayor of the Palace” after his alliance with Prince Farza of Kaposlovar, son of Ansmar II and claimant to the Three Throne.Obragga was able to raly most of the old Bolsarists, and kept both the industrialized, Orthodox, coastals cities and the Docetians middlelands with the promise of a the creation of a constitutional, liberal monarchy.

The negotiations led to the harsh repression of the winter of 1917, targeting any group not part of Obragga’s faction and then possible rivals inside it. Obragga then organized Prince Farza’s crowning under the name of Farza IX, and then summoned the King’s new Privy Council, only to announce the dissolution of the Triple Crown.

In its stead, Obragga summoned representatives from all the old provinces of the Kingdom, Grand Duchy, and Duchy, which were, and it was a first for the country, democratically elected. However, the elections happened during the chaos of the war, at the height of Obragga’s victory, and under the strict control of Obraggist troops. As such, the Assembly that formed was made only of Obragga’s partisans and most direct allies. This Assembly then redacted a new constitution for a monocameral liberal, Parliamentary Monarchy with an all powerful Mayor of the Palace ruling in the name of the king : the Kingdom of Drestran.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Losh and Rekarezki.
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Drevnam, various slavs, and Loshyuds.
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Brezmiatzism (Docetian Iconoclasm), Eastern Orthodoxy, Alban Christianism, Various Protestants groups.
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: I felt that, especially with Milostia around and the “changes” in Belisaria, something fun could happen.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): 2.5% of the GDP is spent on the military, but it’s not a high amount of money to start with. Generally the army is divided between a highly mobile force that operate in the central plain, and another more adapted to hilly quasi-mountainous environment. The air force is small and in dire need of being modernized, and the navy is a glorified coast guard focused on defending port and slowing down potential invasion, preferably in the cheapest way possible.

g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Some corrupt constitutional monarchy led by a Palace Mayor because it’s as close as an actual democracy that I can get. It generally bring lots of religious tensions to the table, just to see if something interessing can come out of it.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? More poverty, even more corrupt army and politics, maybe crank up the power of socialists movements, make the religious tensions even more tangible in the modern days...

-The Rejected Realms
-The Leftist Assembly(currently staying here)
  • Example
c) Other nations:None
  • Example

IC National information

b) Nation's IC population: 16 million (for Ajax server, really 26 on NS)
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: Currently at 600 billion USD per
d) Nation's type of government: Democratic Socialist system
e) Nation's head of state:President
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Prime Minister

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: Medium sized coastal nation, subarctic/humid continental climate, typically found in the north of a continent
History:
After gaining independence in the midst of Velikoslavia’s civil war, my country got split into a bunch of little equally sucky lordships and dukedoms.
The group most furious with this is the Uyghur minority who have always been treated the worst in Chechenastan, there has been riots in their home province of Kunlun and there is a new insurgent group beginning violent attacks against the government
b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Most Slavic Languages, Chechen, Uyghur, Yakut Languages
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Mostly East Slavs, Some Western and South Slavs, Chechens, Uyghurs,Yakuts
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Roman and Orthodox Catholic denominations, Islam, Shaminist practices
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: Be an upstanding member of Ajax and be a respectable First World country with an emphasis on military power.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): Size currently at 1 million active duty, 3 million reservists, and 3 million militia and police, Service branches are Army, Navy(has marine units), Air Force, Internal Affairs Service (umbrella organization for Coast Guard and National Militia, Local Police), Strategic Forces, Gendarme type police
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Military is decently strong.

General information
a) Time on Nationstates: Been on NS off-and-on since 2011
b) Previous regions: Sondria and Nova Sondria
  • Example
c) Other nations:
  • The Nuclear Fist (deleted)

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: The Union of Socialist People's Republics (Rustonia)
b) Nation's IC population: 38,000,000
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: $25,000
d) Nation's type of government: Federal union of democratic socialist republics
e) Nation's head of state: Supreme Chairman Urukhai Tuvaagzhanikhan
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Supreme Chairman Urukhai Tuvaagzhanikhan

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation:

The Union of Socialist People's Republics is a nation-state founded in 1927 as a federal union of three constituent socialist republics. United by the common cause of worker emancipation and a vision for a better future, the Union was born in the wake of the 1919-1928 Rustonian Revolution and the collapse of the Golden Khaganate. In 1992, the Socialist People's Republic of Timargistan incorporated the newly annexed Timargi Emirate, bringing it up to its current borders and leading to the Insurrections of 1993-95 and 2008 respectively.

The Union is made up of three constituent republics, organized into districts and communes. Elections are free and fair, with each republic has broad discretionary powers in how it carries them out. In general, most local commune issues are voted on directly by its citizenry in the People's Assembly and carried out by soviet representatives within the framework of the mass line. It is from amongst these local Party representatives that district People's Congresses are elected, and from amongst their number that the President of the Socialist People's Republic is elected.

Above the individual republics is the All-Union State Commission, which acts as the overarching federal government of the Union. The AUSC is made up of the All-Union League of Communist Parties Central Committee, All-Union Central Defense Commission, and the Supreme People's Assembly. While officially meant to be a power-sharing triumvirate, the Supreme Chairman of the Central Committee is recognized as the head-of-government and sits on multiple committees. The Central Committee acts as the AULCP's administrative leadership in between sessions. The Defense Commission is a semi-independent branch of government in charge of defense matters. Its membership is made up of a committee of generals elected by all non-conscripted military personnel who have completed at least two terms of service, as well as the Supreme Chairman. The Supreme People's Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Union, made up of members elected across the republics.

The current Supreme Chairman is Urukhai Tuvaagzhanikhan, a member of the "Gang of Four", a jucheist political bloc within the Party. He was appointed the position on an interim basis following the previous Supreme Chairman's death in 2017 and was elected in 2018. He officially shares power with the Central Defense Commissioner and the Speaker of the Supreme People's Assembly, though as those two positions are filled by members of the Gang of Four he is generally expected to be Rustonia's paramount leader.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Ruian, Timargi, Miyokese, various indigenous languages
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Ruian (Mongol), Timargi (Khmer), Miyokese (Tibetan), various indigenous ethnicities
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Buddhism (45%), Tengrism (15%), Islam (30%), Hinduism (>9%), various indigenous religions (<1%)
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: I'm not really certain how to answer that, to be honest. If there's a socialist movement then Rustonia will undoubtedly try and strengthen that. IC'ly Rustonia existed under a colonial system similar to China prior to the socialists taking over, so ideally I'd like to set up a colonial history with some of the states in Ajax.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.):

The Revolutionary People's Army of the Union of Socialist People's Republics is made up of the Ground Forces, Air Forces, Naval Forces, Rocket Forces, and the Worker-Peasant Red Guard. Total personnel across all branches is 1.2 million, with approximately 450,000 active duty. The largest branch is the Red Guards and the smallest the Naval Forces, which is largely relegated to shipping patrol and coastal defense. The Red Guards, officially the armed wing of the AULCP, is a reserve paramilitary civil defense force geared towards "preparing the general citizenry for a People's War against foreign aggression", a key part of the hybrid asymmetric warfare doctrine which forms a key part of Party war understanding.

g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures:
With a heavily organized and centrally controlled industrial economy and a bevy of natural resources, the Rustonian economy is difficult to disrupt although not as conducive to explosive growth as its neighbors. The Rustonian military lags a generation behind most of the more competitive militaries in the region, though its large size and unique doctrine make it suited to defense of Rustonia's unique terrain.

h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? Probably a GDP or population decrease, but obviously it would depend on the issue.

IC Geographical/resource

General information
a) Time on Nationstates: I've been playing the game on and off since 2011.
b) Previous regions: In the past, I've had nations in many a region. I went under the moniker of '"Cardo" at the time and was in Ixnay/Greater Ixnay with Ghant, Vannois, etc.
c) Other nations:
  • Cardo
    German-Spanish Empire

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: Regno di San Marchesi/ The Kingdom of San Marchesi
b) Nation's IC population: 10 million
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: $31, 997
d) Nation's type of government: Absolute Monarchy
e) Nation's head of state: Antonio Paulo of the House of Marchesi
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Sebastiano Venier, Duke of St. Paternian

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation:

The Kingdom of San Marchesi is an island nation ruled by Antonio Paulo, the recently ascended monarch. After King Antonio Paulo's ascension in early 2018, the young, progressive monarch replaced his fathers old guard head of government and installed his childhood friend Sebastiano Venier, the current Duke of St. Paternian and considered a master statesman by many Marchesi. The government's day-to-day operation relies on the Council of Ten, a board handpicked by the chairman and the monarch. The Council of Ten is comprised of a monarch appointed Chairman, who presides over meetings, reports to the reigning monarch and considered the head of government, and nine councilors who hold ministry positions (Minister of Defense, Minister of Foreign Policy, etc.).

Though the country considers itself neutral, Marchesi still possesses a relatively decent fighting force. The King's Navy is considered the pride and joy of the military. The Navy is the first line of defense of coastal invasion and protect valuable trade routes that are integral to the health of the Kingdom. The King's Armed Forces is also comprised of the King's Army, the King's Air Defense and the King's Specialized Unit, an elite unit whose primary purpose is espionage on behalf of the King.

Culturally, the Marchesi are widely considered nationalistic and xenophobic in nature. Because of the history of neutrality and economic prosperity, many Marchesi look down on other cultures as inferior in thought and quality of life. Marchesi is the official language of the Kingdom, however languages that the Ministry of Education deem to be pertinent for future diplomatic and business ventures are taught in school in conjunction with Marchesi. Over 96% of Marchesi consider themselves Roman Catholic, and many of the nation's regions are named after Catholic saints. The cultural capital of the Kingdom is St. Tatiana, where there are several universities and the most populated part of the Kingdom.

Overall, San Marchesi is a relatively stable country. Although the old monarch came across as grossly authoritarian, this new rule may offer broader freedoms to the people. With the rise of free press and calls for some form of democracy from academics and common men alike. San Marchesi has interesting years ahead. Will the monarchy stay strong in the face of rising opposition, or will the ideological rebels be victorious over the powerful Marchesi family? Only time will tell.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Marchesi (Venetian), English
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Marchesi (96%), others (4%) <---- (Immigrants)
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Roman Catholicism, Protestantism
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: A budding economic superpower who often plays peacemaker in foreign conflicts.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): The maritime enlistment currently stands at a modest 72,000, of those only 30,000 are active while 42,000 sit in reserve. During times of war, the Kingdom employs conscription, so the strength of the military can reach up to 900,000. There are four branches of the military (listed in order of size): The King's Navy, The King's Army, The King's Air Defense and The King's Specialized Unit. The role of the military is to primarily defend the coasts of the many islands that San Marchesi has.

g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: The strength of our nation lies in the many ports and trade routes that the Kingdom possesses. Perhaps Marchesi may grow into a key player in international trade.

As they say, the pen is mightier than the sword and that is the foreign policy that Marchesi subscribes to. Other than wars of policy, Marchesi will remain mostly neutral unless attacked. Many times where there is conflict, Marchesi mostly plays politics. Not for humanitarianism, but for selfish gain.

h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? Perhaps making the economy smaller, shrinking size of military.

IC Geographical/resource
General lists, we don't expect you to know all the details before joining and getting a map place.
a) What does your nation excel in exporting: Precision machinery, precious metals, clothing, motor vehicles, pharmaceuticals, plastics, mineral fuels including oil, furniture, bedding, food (including pasta and raw meat), ships, wine.
b) What does your nation need to import?: Computers, crude oil, cotton, aircraft, clothing, liquors, tobacco, nonferrous metals, coffee, military equipment (including weapons, protective equipment).
c) What is your country self sufficient on?: Food products, textiles and motor vehicles.
d) What is your preferred location on the regional map? I'd like to be near the most populated continent. If I could just have a series of 7 or 8 small islands in the Percilean, that'd be great.

Regional history
a) Were you recommended to Ajax?: Yep! My old friend Leasath sent me here.

a) Brief description of your nation: The Kingdom of Æthele (Æthelic: Æþelstan) is a constitutional monarchy of over 11 million people. Æthele’s capital, [[Edmond, Æthele|Edmond]], is the political and financial heart of the country. In ancient times, the territories making up modern day Æthele were divided up into a heptarchy of minor, Anglo-Saxon states connected by common language, customs, and traditions. After centuries of disunity, these states were unified in 865 CE by the Roman Catholic King Duncan of Corraidhín. After centuries of direct rule, the King of Æthele steadily relinquished power to the House of Delegates led by a Lord Minister.

In the early 20th century, a civil war between the monarchy and communist forces in the southwest of the country from 1920 - 1923 was crushed by the monarchy. The country grew from an agricultural state to a larger industrial power starting in the 1950s with new advancements in key technical industries, particularly aerospace industry, the arms industry, and the manufacturing side of the software industry.

Note: mentions of regional lore were based on discussions with Prem and can be adjusted further if needed

General information
a) Time on Nationstates: 4 years?
b) Previous regions:
  • Esquarium
  • Aeia
  • Callipolis (defunct)
  • Kylaris
c) Other nations:

IC National information
a) Nation's IC name: Dali, Commonwealth of
b) Nation's IC population: 50 million
c) Nation's IC GDP per capita: $5,920 nominal, $10,940 PPP
d) Nation's type of government: Federal presidential republic
e) Nation's head of state: president Du Guangyan
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): prime minister Yu Chengrong

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: Dali was originally inhabited by a succession of local kingdoms who came under Zhou influence and were occasionally relevant competitors in regional geopolitics, before being conquered by the Zhou with Zhou settlers arriving and the Zhou language being spread. The region was relatively quickly conquered by the Bayarids. Although rebellions and other attempts to establish local states rose up now and then, Dali was a fairly typical Zhou province in the post-Bayarid period until the 19th century.

Preceding the Jiang dynasty's chaotic last years, contact with western liberal and nationalist ideas, combined with the observed inefficiency of the sprawling Zhou government, drove the creation of a new 'local-nationalist' ideology across Zhou lands that called for the dissolution of the 'imperialist' Zhou concept - not only politically, but also culturally with the denial of Zhou identity - and the replacement of the empire with nation-states of individual regions that were based on organic social relationships and civil society (in the mould of lineage association culture and revolving around local landed gentry-turned-bourgeoisie) that truly benefited locals. Numerous republics based on this idea arose with the Jiang's collapse. However, in the 20th century geopolitical occurrences caused most of these new states to be incorporated into Taizhou, Uluujol, or Tsurushima, and Dali is one of the few survivors that still uphold this idea.

Dali is built upon an unique form of republicanism in Ochran that is almost alien to westerners. The basic unit of society are lineage associations, who due to urbanization and industrialization have become corporation-like patronage and assistance networks spread across society and are no longer limited geographically. The core of such units are the haoshen 豪紳 or landed gentry, the bourgeoisie and the most successful of a clan who use their affluence to benefit other clan members through sustaining the lineage association's structure and services. Government aims to be minimalistic, with local administration functioning as a network of lineage associations who consult each other and agree on actions that benefit each association's capabilities, and higher level government becomes a network of such networks. Thus organic social relationships are the main actors that benefit society, and actual 'government' is very much occasional in design, only 'materializing' when a need for its purpose occurs. However lineage associations are not the only such corporations, religious organizations (temples, churches, or mosques) as well as tribal associations function similarly and are usually regarded as equal. A system of polycentric law also exists.

Dali is ideologically rather hostile to all three major powers in Ochran, but only has sustained and actual animity against Taizhou (whose territory across the yet-to-be-named bay is denounced as the most threatening tentacle of imperialism to Dali and against which war plans have been made over the years), and to a lesser extent Uluujol (for simply being a big and pressuring neighbour). The Zhou exclave is the main source of local tensions and regarded as a very likely place for war to occur over. To maintain its standing against two titanic enemies, Dali maintains close relationships with western Belisaria and also Tsurushima's bloc, though the latter is viewed with increasing caution by Dalish leaders. Especially after the fall of most of its fellow national-republics the government has been instilling a siege mentality in citizens and prioritizing the military, somewhat emulating (also-hated) Rustonia.
b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Mandarin Chinese (Yunnan dialects), Bai, Yi, various other Sino-Tibetan and Kra-Dai languages at local levels
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Ye (Yunnan Han with politically reinforced self-identity), Nesu (Yi), Kopho (Bai), various minorities
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Folk/traditional religions of the main ethnicities plus heavily syncretized Sadhana + other Buddhism standins and smaller communities of Zensunnis, Muslims, and Christians.
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: Primarily a vestige and fossil of a political arrangement that once prevailed in Ochran, and as a regional antagonist to Taizhou. It would be a major source of tensions in Ochran adding to interest.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): The National Defense Army is 340,000 strong and primarily drilled for, in addition to defensive maneuvers, a preemptive assault on either of its regional rivals, or a complete 'liberation' of Taizhou's territory next to Dali. It uses a mixture of Tsurushiman and Belisarian equipment, and puts emphasis on training as well as use of local terrain. In the event of being invaded, the NDA is not only expected to be augmented by mobilization but also by paramilitaries maintained by clans and societies. However, those forces would not coordinate very well in a defensive scenario. Dali has practically zero power projection capability.
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Dali's strategic value mainly comes from being a Belisaria-friendly interest in the region. Its role in maritime trade, and mineral resources, are main bargaining chips, but rank mediocrely on both. The military is well-prepared for a local conflict but that's about the only merit it has, being otherwise corrupt and relatively poorly equipped.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? Reduce resources it has.

IC Geographical/resource
General lists, we don't expect you to know all the details before joining and getting a map place.

Located at an important crossroads between the states of Skaldafen and Nunaaqqinit, the area of land which would later become known as Enyama served as an important wildland and frontier in the early days of Norumbrian history. The first peoples to have inhabited Enyama were the Olota people of the Olota Confederacy, an independent and, for the time, relatively sophisticated kingdom situated near the eastern mountain range. Enyaman land changed hands and gained and regained its independence several times before the arrival of settlers from the north after the First Western Crusade. Enyama's promisingly fertile and navigable coastline would see marginal Skaldish colonization as history went on, granting western Enyama a distinct merchantilist character. Enyama's old capital of Avanteria was a notable trading post and port city.

Despite the presence of several important urban trading centers, namely the largely-Olota stronghold of Wahkanea in the eastern mountains and the Skald city of Avanteria on the to the immediate north, greater Breovia (as the region originally became to be known, after its Latin name) remained largely desolate, populated by isolated settlers and roving nomadic bands of indigenous people including the Olota. When Tsurushiman colonists arrived after 1270, a steady trickle of the already-gargantuan influx of colonists moved south, Enyama as it had come to be called. As the Tsurushimans began to settle both along the entire western coastline and in Avanteria, the Tsurushiman language eventually became a convenient lingua franca for the other denizens of the region. By 1300, Enyama was a full-fledged colony of Tsurushima, which used the foreign land to grow cash crops and engage in merchantilism. In the Great Frontier War of 1650, the Olota stronghold of Wahkanea was conquered, and surviving Olota were forced west in the wake of a mass extermination ordered by the Enyaman governor. Further immigration from various sources had created an admixture of people largely of mixed Tsurushiman and Olota descent, creating the modern Enyaman people. The Skald minority in the east was harder to assimilate, persisting to modern times.

In 1838, as strife hit several other Norumbrian nations, Enyama experienced revolution which culminated in a violent overthrow of the colony and a waning in the influence of the Tsurushiman government; Enyama had formally gained its independence soon afterwards. Operating out of the fast-growing river city and new capital of Karasuna, the new Federal States of Enyama took notes from the nation's native peoples and began offering amnesty to those displaced by colonists or otherwise disenfranchised. With its borders fully explored and exploited by 1880, Enyama emerged into the new century as a regional power, keeping itself largely pacifist in the face of regional conflicts. The Federal States was characterized by its largely libertarian and lax attitude towards migration, leading to the arrival of many foreigners seeking opportunity, particularly from Tsurushima. Enyama joined the Forum of Nations soon after its creation in 1966.

After a hard economic depression in 1970, Enyama began to lose its reputation as a "land of opportunity" and instead garnered a reputation as a highly polluted and fairly overpopulated land, filled with cynics. An attempted Syndicalist revolution in 1989, its roots having originated in Enyamas ever-increasing economic strife, failed drastically but led to a general increase in paranoia and security. In 2005, current President Muratagi Eijiro and his "New Frontier" party came into office, immediately increasing military spending, geopolitical posturing, and both implicit and explicit persecution against both newly-arrived immigrants and those not of at least half Tsurushiman stock. Muratagi's rise to power was seen as a shock by many both nationally and internationally, and led to a reclassification of Enyama as an illiberal democracy. Despite the fact that its economy has not fully evolved into the 21st century and still relies on a manufacturing base, Enyama nevertheless can be considered a highly militarized police state, even if elections are still formally ongoing; since 1990, Enyama has had immense problems with organized crime, particularly the mafia and triads of large urban centers; recent measures have drastically curbed this crime wave.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Enyaman (Tsurushiman), Nordic, Olota, others.
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Enyaman (Tsurushiman), Olota, Nordic, and Mixed (majority)
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Various forms of Shintoism and Olota Native Paganism, with the third largest group being those of no religion.
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?:

A tricky question, as I intend for Enyama, at its base, to be a highly malleable nation, due to its diverse populace, centralized location, and increasing interconnectedness with the global sphere in both economy and politics. However, as its current state, Enyama will likely be a strategic warmonger, cultivating soft power, and to a lesser extent hard power, in order to fulfill the geopolitical objectives of the New Frontier party and its ruling members; despite its bravado, Enyama itself is vulnerable to economic strife due to its outdated economy; its government is further diverting resources domestically in an attempt to foster fascistic patriotism, crack down on crime, and generally insulate the nation from external threats. Foreign intervention, implicit or explicit, can of course drastically alter the course of the nation, and one will find the Enyaman people themselves eager to join just about every ideological power bloc in the world, with the right incentives.

f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.):

The Enyaman military has a complex and inefficient organizational structure, and uses largely outdated technology (it would have been considered state-of-the-art in the late 1980s and early 1990s). The branches are as follows:
  • Ground Forces
  • Air Forces
  • Naval Forces
  • Internal Troops / Gendarmerie
Total operating strength of the BMF has risen sharply from 80k in 2005 to 350k in 2018 and is expected to keep rising as conscription is reinstated and militarization continues.

g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures:

Economically, Enyama is notably strong enough, especially in the cultivation of natural gas and uranium, to foster decently strong revenue base, and sympathetic corporations have largely insured the continued employment of a large chunk of Enyama's population.
Enyama's military is outdated and is expected to remain fairly outdated even as more money is funneled into it; generally speaking, Enyaman military doctrine revolves around strength in numbers and superior tactics on the ground (or sea, or air). Force projection is limited to Norumbria, with Enyaman forces not able to extend themselves much further past Ghant. However, Enyama has made up for these weaknesses by excelling in intelligence and counter-intelligence, especially of the military variety. Enyama's newest domestic military developments have thus been shielded from all but the most inquisitive of foes.

h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? Governmental change and further strife, likely leading to the creation of a defense force and the total dissolution of the current government.

f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): The Right Honourable David Sinclair, Lord High Chancellor of Arcadia

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: The Kingdom of Arcadia is a nation that lives and dies by its history and its tradition. Rightly proud of its former glory, the evidence of which can be seen in the architecture of the oldest cities, the Kingdom has never the less been in decline for decades. The decline is no small part to the rapid-fire political changes that shook the Kingdom as it changed from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy where many of the Monarchs prerogatives were transferred to the newly-empowered Parliament. The naive optimism of many, within politics and without, in the early years was quickly quashed by a developing political class interested only in their own interests and not the Kingdom at large. Corruption and backroom dealing became the order of the day within Arcadian politics, although none could prove it definitively it was, at best, an open-secret. The Monarchy was, in many ways, powerless to do anything to rectify the problem, and the realm suffered economically, and socially, as unrest spread. This sad state of affairs came to a head in 2019 when, after publicly coming out (at last) against corruption and floating a stronger role for the Crown, the King and Queen were assassinated.

The King’s only son, the Crown Prince of Arcadia, who became King Alexander II, upon returning to the Capital from military service swore to uphold his father’s wishes, in purging the corruption from the Kingdom and reinforcing the role and powers of the Crown.

Politically speaking, the Kingdom is culturally conservative, but politically liberal. In public life, individuals are expected to honour the past and to maintain various traditions, there is still a clear distinction by class, but the land-owning nobility and gentry are expected to provide for their tenants, those that live on their land, and those to whom they are a ‘patron’, such as employees. It is in no small part due to this cultural conservatism that has prevented those corrupt individuals in the Parliament from co-opting the political system to protect themselves, and ultimately what will bring about their doom, as the moral and social authority of the Crown remains significant and supportive of a stronger role for the Crown. Privately, the general consensus of the political class, and the nobility, has been that whatever individuals want to get up to in the privacy of their own homes is their business, with some restrictions around narcotics and common-sense laws. The constitutional framework places significant power in the hands of Parliament, however the new King seems set to challenge this and will likely bring about a rebalancing of the constitutional powers of the Crown and Parliament.

Culturally, Arcadia places a heavy emphasis on the traditions and ‘honourable’ way of doing things. In some respects Arcadia is, culturally, caught in a time-warp from the glory days of the 18th and 19th Centuries, however these have been modernised to some degree. Never the less, ‘society’ is a concept that is very much still present, and certain behaviours are expected of those in the higher classes, or those seeking entry into them. Military service is a proud calling, and both serving members and veterans alike are rightly proud of their service, and well-respected by the general population, indeed military dress uniforms are very ‘old-fashioned’, as far as outsiders care concerned, but are very ornate and even gaudy, especially officer uniforms and especially in the cavalry.

Economically, Arcadia is a contradiction. The Kingdom has sufficient natural resources and industrial base to be a very strong economy, however corruption, especially tax evasion, is rampant and as a result the economy suffers. Small businesses are generally successful, however after a certain size they run the risk of being subsumed by one of the large corporations that are seen by many as very corrupt in many of their dealings. The one exception, and the main reason for Arcadia’s economic stability is the banking sector, which is renowned for its honesty and self-regulation, which is partially why many Arcadian corporations seek offshore banking solutions or are very good at ‘arranging’ for political loopholes to be introduced. Never the less, Arcadia is a trading nation and has a significant merchant marine presence in the Periclean Sea and beyond.

Overall, Arcadia is a nation with a proud history but has fallen upon hard-times and does not, by any stretch of the imagination, reach its full potential. The Kingdom suffers principally from political corruption and a dishonest industrial and commercial infrastructure. Many within the Kingdom view the decline as a direct result of getting away from traditional values of public service and putting the Kingdom before self, this is in no small part to the fact that those corrupt politicians in Parliament are principally from historically under-represented or under-powered sections of the population who, now that they are in power, seek to enrich themselves at the expense of the Kingdom. Ultimately, however, this is not something that the people, or the Crown, as the embodiment of the realm and its values, are prepared to accept for too long.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: English (‘The Trade Language’, Primary Language) Old Arcadian (Sindarin, minor use amongst upper class and in historical names, etc).
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Principally Arcadian (Western European/Mediterranean)
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Christianity, majority, small minorities of Islam, Judaism.
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: Arcadia is a nation that is finding its feat again, principally looking internally but in the protection of its trade and regional stability it would seek to serve as a ‘force for good’ and a neutral faction.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): The Arcadian Military, much like the Kingdom as a whole, is something of a contradiction. It is a well-trained, well-led and well-motivated force that is more than capable of defending Arcadia from attack, and its overseas interests (principally trade). However, the Military has suffered from political corruption in Parliament as much of its equipment was chosen more for political expediency (and profit) then it was for actual effectiveness. As a result, although some equipment is effective and well-liked, other pieces are detested and in dire need of replacement, which has not been forthcoming in the recent years.

As a result the Arcadian Military must rely on the quality of its personnel over the quality of its equipment, and certainly in size, as the military is undersize for its real needs. This is most noticeable in the Royal Arcadian Navy, historically well-respected and well-funded due to its role in protecting the nation’s trade, is forced to run its ships (and crews) to exhaustion due to lack of funding for both more ships and more manpower. The Royal Arcadian Air Force is woefully under-equipped for anything other than an air defence mission; it can protect the realm’s airspace well enough but its capabilities overseas are only existent due to innovation and sheer perseverance on the part of officers and enlisted men alike. The Royal Army is probably the single best equipped and funded branch of the military, and would be the only branch that an impartial observer could say is truly sufficient for the task.
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: The Kingdom of Arcadia’s key strength is its people, their perseverance and their own personnel efforts. This is not more clearly demonstrated than by the Monarchy itself, who even without many historic powers have remained the ‘embodiment of the nation’ in the truest sense of the word. Arcadia’s potential is fatally undermined by its political corruption, and only by removing this can the realm truly thrive.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?  Further increase the decline of the Kingdom as a result of the corruption, increase the scale of the corruption.

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation:

Mundaqar is a tripartite state composed of the National Republic of Braqara in the north, the client states collectively known as Las Faldillas on the southern coast, and the Archduchy of Duero de Aqar in the east. The central and northern regions are dominated by Fabrian Catholics interspersed with Muslim enclaves and villages. In the southeast, Mormons dominate commerce and politics. The state endures through an uneasy peace between these three substates and factions. The central government Confederal Committee on the Continuation of the Peace, which is composed of members from all three parts of the country. Every one of Las Faldillas, officially called the Provincial Republics, are each guaranteed one representative on the committee; Duero de Aqar and Braqara are each guaranteed one member on the committee for each Provincial Republic. Since both Duero de Aqar and Braqara have allies in Las Faldillas, however, both of the larger states have conspired to provide their allied Provincial Republics with more than one representative, which had led to a dilution of their power. Braqara operates internally as a congressional republic, Duero de Aqar as a constitutional monarchy, and the Provincial Republics operate variously as parliamentary republics or noble republics.

Mundaqar was originally populated by Highland Tulurans migrating out during the dawn of man. Several ancient kingdoms rose and fell around the southernmost lakes and the Great Bay of Sor. Some of the most important of these early civilizations were the Kingdom of the Sevenfold Paradise, the Red Kingdom, and the first Aradian civilization of the area, the Children of Marmar. Successive waves of Latin, Arab, and Tuluran empires swept over the great plains of northern Mundaqar, mixing together into the modern Oubastine ethnicity. The many conflicts of the great plain led to the establishment of innumerable bastide-type towns in the north, some of which grew into the great fortress cities such as Alqatat and Darvuelta. The harsher landscape and massive jungles of the south shielded the lake-side kingdoms such as Ebro and Tefr from many of these conflicts.

In the early tenth century, the entirety of Mundaqar was conquered by the Nahlian Caliphate, which ruled absolutely until its collapse in the mid eleventh century. The Nahlian Caliphate was replaced by Holy Dahkma which rivaled the Nahlians in its passionate agenda of conversion. Holy Dahkma’s ardor slowly waned, however, especially because of the necessity of trade with the Rezese. Holy Dahkma was only a secondary target during the crusades, but suffered nonetheless, and was mostly driven out of the northwest. By the time it collapsed, Holy Dahkma was a mostly secular state being nibbled at on all sides.

In the thirteenth century, a series of wars between noble republics in and around Great Bay of Sor and the ailing coalition of crusader states in the north resolved itself amicably by Bishop Dordon who arranged to have the famed Nazario Dinagra anointed as the Emperor of the Oubastines. The office of Emperor was supposed to be a relatively ceremonial one, tasked with arbitration of disputes and the administration of rituals, but within a decade, Nazario had organized his petty realm and declared a holy war against the pitiful remains of Holy Dahkma. Holy Dahkma fell to Nazario and the rest of Mundaqar was added to the Oubastrine Empire of Heaven under Nazario’s grandchildren.

The Federation was formed in the twentieth century as a result of a twenty-year civil war which ended the reign of the Kahalarian Dynasty and destroyed the elective monarchy of the OEH. The war, which was fought mostly in trenches throughout the realm, was completely devastating and pandemic. No part of the nation was spared bombing or shelling, nor was there ever any hope of forming multiple states in the chaos of the war. The war was only ended when the generation that had started it began to die off and was replaced by a generation of peacemakers. The Fabrian church again was instrumental in the creation of the new unified state.

b) What languages are spoken in your nation?:
Oubastine (official), Arabic (regional), Maltese (regional), and Rezese (commercial).

c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?:
Oubastine (60%), Tuluran (20%), Arab (15%), Jewish (5%)

d) What are the major religions among your population?:
Fabrian Catholic (60%), Mormon (20%), Muslim (15%), Jewish (5%)

e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?:
Mundaqar is a rising power with a wealth level similar to Poland and a population equivalent of Ethiopia. As a rising power it will frequently conflict with the interests of other super-powers such as Tsurushima and Belfras. Though it's force project capabilities are severely limited, Mundaqar will compete with other nations primarily in the cultural and economic sphere, attempting to promote traditional Fabrian values around the world, including missions to radicalize the Fabrian faithful in Belisaria. Mundaqar is deeply antisemitic and opposes the existence of a Jewish state by supporting Sydalon and inflaming the rival states.

f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.):
Mundaqar’s military is substandard and underfunded. The enormous length of border is protected primarily by Mundaqar’s excellent diplomatic service and its shores are guarded more by international treaty than a strong navy. Fabrians are required to perform a tour of duty for the military, but seldom act in any military capacity, their efforts mostly being diverted to civil projects.

g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures:
Mundaqar is a deeply divided state along ethno-religious lines which could be exploited at any time. Conflicts in neighboring countries invariably spill over the vast, porous border. The result of Mundaqar’s decades-long civil war is an absolute rejection of the military as an instrument of statecraft, which has left the military completely inadequate to the task of protecting the nation both in numbers and equipment. Because of the importance of Fabrianism to the voting public, the government is vulnerable to a constitutional crisis should it ignore the Holy See.

Mundaqar is also an extremely large nation with the sixth largest population and eighth largest economy.

h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so?
Increase the area, add Reze minorities, increase the Mormon minority.

d) Nation's type of government: Federal semi-parliamentary constitutional monarchy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-parliamentary_system)
Head of state is a monarch who doesn't have much power, while head of government (Chancellor) is directly elected by the people.
We are also highly decentralised asymmetric federation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asymmetric_federalism). We have duchies (same level of autonomy as US states), independent cities (like duchies but cities), autonomous provinces (for indigenous peoples) and territories (sparsely populated areas under direct rule of the central government; „tax heavens“).
Parliament is tricameral (House of Lords, Senate and National Assembly).
e) Nation's head of state: HM king Patrik Jaroslav XVII
f) Nation's head of gov’t (if applicable): Chancellor Teodor Soldo

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: Dultava used to be a small slavic mediterranean kingdom located between Siveria and Staroslava. Its expansion to the north started in the late 17th century when Dultan king Patrik V married princess Johana of Hum and annexed Hum into Dultan kingdom. The expansion continued during 18th and 19th century. Dultava annexed new territories every 10-20 years, mostly populated by the indigenous Uralic and Turkic peoples. Some tribes have voluntarily joined Dultava while some were conquered. The expansion ended until 1900 when Deltava reached the Boreios Sea. During the expansion, in the early 19th century the people of Dultava stood up against the king in an uprising called the July Revolution. King Leopold I compromised with protesters and gave up most of his powers. The new bicameral parliament consisted of the House of Lords (appointed by the king) and the Senate (two senators from each dutchy elected directly by the people or the local legislature). In the late 19th century, the third chamber was established (National Assembly) in order to ensure proportionality. Also the new constitution was ratified by both parliament and the king. The constitution ensured democratic rights, civil rights and freedom of speech.
b) What languages are spoken in your nation?: Dultan
c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Dultan (slavic) majority with several indigenous peoples (Uralic, Turkic and Inuit) in the north and immigrants in the big cities.
d) What are the major religions among your population?: Christianity (or some Ajaxian equivalent to it)
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: Like Hungary and Poland IRL. We are mostly peaceful and benevolent kingdom but some countries might not like us because of our right-wing politics. We participate in trade and do not participate in any conflict unless attacked.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): We have about 500 000 active soldiers; very good equipment (strong aircraft, submarines and ballistic missiles) but we use them for defense only. We also have walls or fences on our borders.
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Military: we are well equipped and we do have a well prepared defense strategy but we don't have that many soldiers. Economy: Not too strong, not too bad. We are mostly focused on exports while imports are highly taxed. Our currency is not very stable because of several inflations.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? We can discuss.

IC National information
a) Brief description of your nation: The Federative Republic of Lusittia (Lusittian: República Federativa de Lusíttia), is a federal republic in the continent of Belisaria, sharing maritime borders with Tarsas to the south and Dultava to the east. The Republic is a federation mainly composed by the Lusittians - a Germanic tribe who, after centuries of interaction and integration with Latin and Tarsan peoples, became a Latinized people, sharing many of its customs and traditions.

The history of the Lusittian Republic is marked by several wars, foreign occupations, diseases and other catastrophes until reaching its current way of economic growth and social stability. The country was once a Latin colony who managed to win against the Lusittian tribes, becoming a province of the Latin Empire. After Latin's, tentatives of independence made by the natives arose, but none of them can officially conquest its independence and subsequently, Lusittia falls on the hands of the Hellenic Empire, becoming a significant component of its empire albeit the extremely bad treatment given to the Lusittians and the social exclusion of them in the national subjects of the Empire. Because of such policy, the first modern nationalist movements arose at the end of the 18th century, being led by a generation of young thinkers who quickly accomplished in creating several rebellions and revolutions against the Tarsan rule, successfully having its independence guaranteed in 1852. The second half of the 19th saw the industrialization and modernization of the national infrastructure, inputting Lusittia to its actual condition of political stability and good economic numbers.

Politically speaking, the Imperial Federation enjoys a stabilisation since its independence, despite some crisis and times of political instability over the years. The country - as the name says - is a presidential republic, having as President Ludovico Bittencourt from the National Conservative Union (NCU) - or UCN in Lusittian - which main opposition is made by the centre-left Labour Bloc (LB). The national legislature is the unicameral National Assembly. The country has a market economy with fewer interventionist policies since 1990.

c) What ethnic groups are present in your nation?: Almost 90% of Lusittia is composed of ethnic Lusittians, with the remaining being Tarsans or immigrants.
d) What are the major religions among your population?: The population is overwhelming Fabrian Catholic - 87% of the national population, followed by Alban Christians and other religions.
e) What role do you see your nation fulfilling within the region?: I think that Lusittia's role in Ajax affairs will be more related to economic-trade issues although not 100% sure, as well as diplomatic interactions with Belisarian nations.
f) Briefly describe your nation’s military (including size, role, branches, etc.): The Lusittian Armed Forces is divided between three branches: The Lusittian Army, the Lusittian Navy and the Lusittian Airforce, counting with 509,012 active personals and 756,913 in reserve, acting as the national defensive force of the Federation.
g) Critically discuss the strengths of your nation (esp. military & economic) and how they may affect existing regional power structures: Despite the good condition of the Imperial Armed Forces in provide the defence of the nation as a whole, Lusittia's main strength is about economy, trade and diplomacy, which is open to every nation in the world without any unfair priority.
h)If asked to reduce the strength of your nation, how would you do so? I would reduce its economic and military strength.
