Vlazselo, Marolevia - Marolevia had early in December of last year announced it would not attend the annual meeting with EC leaders though no reason was exactly given. Though much speculation has existed and still exists with only recently in a statement from the Marolevic Government confirming what many of our political experts had expected. Marolevia had called off the meeting following the Gaullican proposal to remilitarize the Aurean Straits, calling it a 'threat to international shipping within the region.' As well as calling it 'an attempt to justify further Gaullican Militarization.'

If the meeting had continued on it would have been going on for 43 years consecutively with the meeting originally being held between Marolevia, Gaullica, Werania, and Estmere as a means to reintegrate Marolevia into Euclea. It would eventually morph into a yearly discussion to resolve various disputes that had occured throughout the year and give reassurances on various treaties and each sides commitment to said treaties. With the formation of the EC the meetings continued with more members participating as well as the EC President.

The cancellation of the meeting shows a growing trend of more aggressive Marolevic actions and reactions to a myriad of events such as the recent expedition to some southern Petrines Islands and threatening the already tenuous stability in the region, along with more undemocratic actions such as the crackdown against Cooperatvist and Syndicalist politicians many of whom have already been tried and executed.

A longer statement was released following the brief announcement that was glossed over and hardly mentioned during a press conference with Chief Minister Mikhail Georgiy, who seemed more focused on the announcement of more drilling in the Pervo Sea and a massive revitalization of the Marolevia Military, to 'further protect Marolevic People across the Globe.' Said statement once again called the proposal a threat to international shipping and said it would strongly oppose it as much as possible in the CoN, it also labeled it a 'attempt to justify further militarization of the Gaullican Nation something we can never and will never support." It also pointed out that 'the only nations supporting such matter is Etruria, a state who in recent times has become increasingly unstable and threatening to its minorities and is seemingly turning towards functionalism,' which it also highlighted even further made their protests to such a proposal even stronger then before.

ESTMERISH GOVERNMENT 'DEEPLY REGRETS' MAROLEVIC WITHDRAWAL FROM YEARLY SUMMIT, RAISES CONCERNS OVER INCREASING AGGRESSION

Image
Foreign Secretary Anne Buckett said the Marolevic's government's decisions were "disappointing".
Ashcombe, Estmere- The Estmerish Government has called on the Marolevic government to reverse its decision not to attend yearly talks between the West Euclean power and leaders from the Euclean Community. Estmerish officials raised concerns over the decision when it was first announced in early December, urging the Marolevic Chief Minister Mikhail Georgiy to reverse course and attend the talks. The Marolevic government today confirmed that it had pulled out of the talks over a controversial Gaullican proposal to the Community of Nations Security Committee that would see the militarization of the Aurean Straits by the international community.

Foreign Secretary Anne Buckett called the move "disappointing" and stressed the need for regular dialogue between Vlazselo and Eastern Euclea.

"These talks have provided us with a forum to ensure that Euclea has a continent continues to chart a stable course, continuing the decades of peace we have grown accustomed to. Multilateral solutions such as these talks are essential to maintaining the security of our continent".

She encouraged the EC to hold the talks regardless, arguing that "dialogue regarding Marolevia's relationship with the Continent should not end simply because Marolevia wishes it would".

Prime Minister Rupert Richardson is reported to have spoken to his Weranic counterpart, Chancellor Viktor Oberhauser, regarding the new developments. Both Estmere and Werania, permanent members of the CN's Security Committee, reacted coldly to the Gaullican proposal. The two were joined by Amathia, who has a temporary seat representing the Euclea Central region, in abstaining from a vote on the proposal. With the abstentions of Gaullica's Euclean allies, the measure still failed by a considerable margin. Marolevia, who is one of the six permanent members, was joined by Negara, Songguo, and the Federation in voting against the Gaullican initiative.

Gaullica, who has a temporary seat representing Euclea East, claims the militarization of the Aurean Straits is essential to ensure . The new right-wing coalition, which took power in September, has argued its proposal is essential to ensuring the world's busiest shipping lanes were protected. Gaullican Minister for Defense Zacharie Blanchard, who is the architect of the Gaullican proposal, called for the "establishment of a Communal Peace-Keeping Force" within the Aurean Straits, based at Carcosa and Bokela. The goal of this task-force is to: a) defend the straits from increasing threat of piracy, b) defend the straits from the threat of terrorist insurgency from the Tsabaran conflict and c) to ensure the vitally necessary continued operation of the straits.

Recent instability in the Transtsabaran Federation has raised concerns within Euclea, with some foreign policy analysts speculating the country is going to become increasingly more unstable as the Atudite population becomes more and more distant from the nation's ruling All-Mumin Union. Tsabaran President Atwan al-Tughluq has drastically altered the nation, working to move the nation away from its secular, consociational nature while promoting Salamist politics and identity. The instability has seen a low-intensity conflict break out between Atudite militias and the central government. President al-Tughluq has been able to maintain and strengthen his grip over the Tsabaran state, with government forces sparring regularly with the rebels.

The EC has largely been silent on the proposal, with EC President Alexis Walker arguing it was a matter for the CN - not the EC as the EC is not represented at the organization. "This is an issue for our member-states to address. While the Commission is more than happy to work with our member-states and foster a dialogue regarding the security of the [Aurean] straits, it is not our place to wade into the matter". Ms. Walker maintains a close relationship with Gaullican President Jean Vallette, who is understood to privately be reluctant of the proposal.

However, the EC has raised concerns over growing instability in Tsabara and has called for bilateral talks between senior Euclean officials and the al-Tughluq government. However, thus far Mr. al-Tughluq has rejected the EC's proposed talks as "unnecessary".

The Etrurian government publicly backed the Gaullican proposal. Etrurian President Francesco Carcaterra previously stated that “Etrurian and Gaullican cooperation over the straits is a natural move, both states rely upon that waterway for exports and imports, it’s a vital economic lifeline, they have our full support". His support for the Gaullican proposal has raised concerns from a number of EC states. Both Carcosa and Florena are very opposed to the Gaullican proposal and have voiced their opposition publicly.

However, many within in Kesselbourg were alarmed by Mr. Carcaterra's call for Gaullica to implement the plan bilaterally with Etruria. The Etrurian President said that " it is definitely in the realms of possibility to see Gaullican and Etrurian naval vessels patrolling waters together, protecting the global economy from criminality and piracy.” The EC is worried of the possibility of collabroate between the ruling Tribune government in Etruria and Gaullica's new right-wing coalition, which includes senators from the controversial Fronte Nationale, a far-right nationalist party. Sources close to Ms. Walker have downplayed concerns, citing the powerful role of the Gaullican presidency. The presence of ex-EC President and former Gaullican President Alexander Lévesque in the new government has also alleviated concerns. Mr. Lévesque is a supporter of Gaullica playing a central, but cooperative, role within the EC.

Estmerish officials have dismissed the Etrurian president's comments as being "grounded in fiction", arguing the defense component of the Euclean Community "takes precedent" over bilateral relationships between EC members-states and non-members. "As Eucleans, we understand that complicated webs of alliances are not only tricky, but deadly. No member-state maintains bilateral defense agreements outside of the Community, and that will not change - ever" a spokesperson for the Secretariat of Defense said previously.

The Estmerish delegate to the Security Committee, Margaret Roxton, also criticized President Carcaterra's claims that the Gaullican proposal would only fail because of "Estmerish concerns over Gaullica’s new patriotic government". Ms. Roxton said this was "far from the reality" of the Security Committee's decision, arguing the strongest opposition to the Gaullican proposal was from nations such as Marolevia and Negara, both of which have raised concerns over Gaullican imperialism.

Estmere, whose prime minister is from the conservative National Union Party, has had a noticeably lacking relationship with the new Gaullican government, with the traditional Ashcombe-Westbrücken axis continuing despite the ideological shift in Gaullica's government. Mr. Richardson has previously criticized Gaullican Prime Minister Hugo-Noël Devereaux's decision to include the Fronte Nationale in government, warning against the dangers far-right parties like the Fronte and Estmere First pose to governance and Euclean stability. Despite the sub-par relationship between Richardson and Devereaux, ties between the national governments have largely remained warm.

Ms. Buckett said it was "deeply regretful" that Marolevia pulled out of the talks over the Gaullican proposal. She voiced concerns that Marolevia was using it as an excuse to sanction its own expansionist agenda, warning that Marolevia should not be quick to accuse Gaullica or the Euclean Community of "imperialistic expansionism" as the Marolevic government has been amping up its own agenda. The Foreign Secretary alluded to Marolevic aggression in the Perevo Sea, aimed to intimidate the country's northern neighbor and former subject, the Petrines Islands.

Duke Alessandro III endorses Tribunes
Shocking recording shows Duke endorse the Tribune Movement in his Duchy's elections

The Tribune Movement has received a colossal boost in the Carvantine election, with Duke Alessandro III reportedly endorsing the party. In leaked comments he made in a conversation with former Prefect, Luigi Pesci, he said, “the Tribunes have got the right ideas, they’re what’s needed. Here’s hoping.”
Image
File photo: HRH Duke Alessandro III reportedly endorsed the Tribunes at a dinner with friend.

The Duke’s words were reportedly recorded by a guest at the Raccogliere restaurant in central Stazzona. He was dining with Luigi Pesci, who served as Prefect of Carvagna between 2001 and 2009 and is known to be a close friend of the Duke. The two began to discuss the election, in which Pesci reportedly said, “what a mess, [Annalisa] Taddei has ruined everything. All of this for millennials? I would never have put my position or my government’s position on the line for a lost cause.”

The Duke looked sullen and said, “I know, I love my Duchy, and she’s bringing chaos. You know, the Tribunes have got the right ideas, they’re what’s needed. Here’s hoping.”

The recording was passed to this newspaper and has drawn much appreciation from the Tribune Movement, but also scorn from the liberals in the Citizens’ Alliance and the secessionists in Together for Carvagna.

Giovanni Tulliani, the leader of the Tribune Movement in the Carvantine Assembly said, “While I question the means of this revelation, we embrace it with humility and thanks. If even our Duke recognises the dismal record of Annalisa Taddei and her gaggle of left-wing agitators then Carvagna has only one option, trust in the Tribune Movement and trust we will do right by the people of our great Duchy.”

Deputy Prefect of Carvanga, Enrico Caltabiano, issued a statement saying, “if this story is confirmed true, it would mark the greatest constitutional crisis in Carvantine history since unification. If confirmed, the Duke would have violated both constitutional and conventional norms on political impartiality. We will be investigating this immediately.”

Several Citizens’ Alliance AMs have demanded an emergency session of the Assembly, to debate the situation. This has been rejected by both the President of the Assembly and the Carvantine Electoral Office. In a joint-statement, the President and CEO said, “this situation in mutual agreement, does not qualify as a major incident, which would enable the opening of the Assembly during an electoral period.”

Duke Alessandro III who succeeded his father Alessandro II in 1999 has enjoyed immense popularity for decades. He has rarely ventured into the politics of his Duchy, remaining aloof and steadfast. He opted to champion certain issues, such as preserving Carvagna’s natural beauty, becoming patron of several museums and galleries, using his family’s wealth to renovate Renaissance monuments and buildings and promoting animal rights.

His endorsement of the Tribune Movement comes as the Carvantine regional government faces collapse over Prefect Annalisa Taddei’s incompetent attempt at introducing tuition fee education.

Following the Assembly’s defeat of her bill, she requested that the Duke dissolve the Assembly, which he did as per convention.

News of the Duke’s endorsement comes as Taddei met with senior rebels of her branch of the Citizens’ Alliance, who have called for her to step down. Many in her party have called her decision to dissolve the assembly over the bill “irresponsible” and “short-sighted.” The Federal Executive of the party has refused to become involved, referring to the situation as a “matter for the regional branch to solve, we have full confidence in the Carvantine branch to solve this impasse.”

The Duke’s endorsement is a major boon for the Tribune Movement and may well guarantee a significant enough boost to ensure the party succeeds in removing the Citizens’.

Federal Government bans loaning of artworks to Marolev countries
Citing law and order concerns, all Etrurian galleries will be prohibited from loaning works to Marolev galleries and musuems

Federal Minister for Culture and National Identity, Matteo de Rossi has announced that Etrurian artworks will no longer be loaned to galleries in Marolevic countries for the foreseeable future. Addressing reporters, he said, “after much deliberation, the Federal government has formally issued a moratorium on the loaning of Etrurian artworks to galleries and museums in Marolevic states for the foreseeable future.”

The decision was widely touted in last year’s election as a way of protecting national treasures from the poor law enforcement and security situations in Marolevic states across Euclea.

Minister De Rossi defended the decision saying, “in these countries, there is immense criminality, more often than not, infused with the state itself. By loaning our precious artworks, be it painted or sculpted, and being the greatest pieces of creativity, the world has known, we place those treasures in danger of theft or vandalism. We cannot in good conscience, allow our greatest renaissance works be stolen or damaged. As such, we are applying a permanent ban on the loaning of artworks to Marolevic states, until such time we feel confident that the security situation is sound.”

Asked if any particular case had warranted the government’s decision, Minister De Rossi said, “could you imagine, loaning a work by Corelli or Tribolo to a gallery in Marolevia and then discovering that it had been stolen or damaged? We would lose possession of our country’s greatest works and wonders. It would be a national travesty and tragedy.”

The Culture and National Identity Ministry has also announced plans to use its funds and donations from the Etrurian people to purchase privately owned works from the renaissance period, in an effort to protect them and display them to the public. This policy received the full backing of President Carcaterra. Speaking at an event at the National Caraffa Gallery in Solaria, he said, "it is wrong for such great wonders of human creativity, the sum total of the Etrurian nation's unrivaled cultural strengths and powers to be hidden away in some mansion somewhere, for the sole pleasure of a billionaire, who fails to truly comprehend the beauty of what hangs on his wall. Our great works should not be the pleasure or status of a tiny elite, but for the benefit of all mankind. We will do our best to return our works and display them for all to see."

The Tribune government vociferously attacked multi-billionaire Luigi Gabrielli for selling the "Virgin and Child" by Alessandro Tiberio Volci to Asterian billionaire Hugo Aster for $36.4 million in 2017. The government slammed the sale as a "gross violation of Etruria's cultural heritage" and worked to pass a law prohibiting the sale of privately owned art in Etruria to buyers abroad, however, the Supreme Court rejected the bill as unconstitutional arguing it violated Etrurians' rights to property. Following the Judicial Reforms of last year, the government is expected to attempt a second passing.

The Ministry confirmed that it had purchased several sculptures by Leonardo Bandinelli (1464-1525) from a wealthy private owner last week for ₣64.5 million. The sculptures are to be displayed at the Corrado Moriani Botanical Garden in San Alessandro in the spring.

Grand Duke Alessandro III denies he endorsed Tribune Movement
Major scandal emerges as Nuovo Mundo's claim is proved to have lied over the Duke's endorsement.

The Grand Duke of Carvagna has vociferously slammed false claims he endorsed the Tribune Movement in the region’s snap elections. His office released a scathing denial, which has since been corroborated by staff at the restaurant cited in Nuovo Mundo’s report. The response has thrown the paper and the Tribune Movement into crisis, as the Duke’s office openly accuses the party of violating his political neutrality.
Image
Ducal spokesman, Matteo Ghezzi (R) denouncing the story.

The Grand Duke’s chief spokesman took to a televised press conference, where he categorically rejected claims made in Nouvo Mundo that the Duke had endorsed the Tribune Movement. The spokesman denied the basis of the claims, while also reaffirming the Duke’s commitment to political impartiality and neutrality.

Here is the spokesman’s statement in full:

“Yesterday, the national newspaper Nouvo Mundo published an article claiming that it was in possession of a recording of His Grace, Grand Duke Alessandro III of Carvagna, endorsing the Tribune Movement in the upcoming general election within the Grand Duchy of Carvagna. Not only is this categorically incorrect, it is a gross violation of the conventions of the Grand Duchy, and a slanderous attack on the Grand Duke himself.

“The article describes how his Grace, who was dining with former prefect of state, Luigi Pesci at the Raccogliere restaurant on Via Ducato. During which, he expressed to a close confidante, his belief that the Tribune Movement had good ideas and that he was hoping they’d secure victory in the election.

“I can confirm that this is categorically incorrect and false. While his grace was dining with Mr. Pesci, at no point did conversation cover matters of the election or the Tribune Movement. The conversation between the two covered personal matters, hobbies and the two gentlemen’s work at environmental conservation and their shared work with charitable foundations.

“We have sworn testimony from both Mr. Pesci, other customers and members of staff who overheard conversation, confirming that his grace never uttered any supportive word of the Tribune Movement, Citizens’ Alliance or any group or party competing in this election.

“The Grand Duke has never, nor ever will violate the sacred conventions or norms that govern the Grand Duchy, by endorsing any political party, movement or group. The claim is a direct attack upon the conventions, norms and expectations held within the Grand Duchy and sets a disturbing precedent for the other constitutional monarchy governed regions of the Federation.

“The Ducal Household is now expecting a public apology from Nuovo Mundo and the Tribune Movement, the latter which has embraced this lie and used it for electoral purposes. We also expect the Tribune Movement to issue a revision to these statements and actions.

“I can also confirm that should no apology be forthcoming from Nuovo Mundo, the Ducal Household will begin legal proceedings against the paper for the slanderous and constitutionally damaging article.”

The Ducal Household promptly released the sworn testimony of Mr. Pesci and others present at the restaurant at the time.

In his statement, Mr. Pesci wrote, “during my lunch with the Grand Duke, at no point did we discuss the election nor the current political situation in the Grand Duchy. While at times I have explained the situation to him for his curiosity, never in my two decades of dealing with his grace, has he ever offered any personal opinion or argument on matters, beyond his desire to see resolutions. Never during that time, nor the lunch specifically, has he ever endorsed any argument, political party or movement.

“His Grace and his household are to loyal to the norms and conventions of our Grand Duchy to express true dissatisfaction with this latest incident, but I believe it necessary to call out this falsehood as the fake news and gross fabrication that it is.”

Two people who were dining next to the Duke and Mr. Pesci were interviewed by TVI News, who said, “we were next to the Grand Duke and Mr. Pesci, who we recognised immediately, throughout their lunch. We never at any point overheard any talk of the election or Tribunes.”
Image
One poster seen by Il Popolo carries the 'Ecco Sporando' line quoted by Nuovo Mundo.

Since Nuovo Mundo released the article yesterday, the Tribune Movement embraced the “endorsement” regionally and federally. The Tribune Movement in Carvagna reportedly began printing materials including the Duke’s endorsement. Il Popolo has even gained access to one electoral poster being printed which includes the “here’s hoping” (Ecco Sporando) line apparently uttered by the Grand Duke.

Tribune Movement leader in Carvagna, Giovanni Tulliani addressed supporters this morning saying, “if even the Grand Duke thinks we’re the party for Carvagna, then we must be doing something right!”

On CTV, his deputy, Stefania Graziani said, “the Prefect’s position is utterly chaotic and weak that even the man who is supposed to be entirely neutral has come out saying she needs to go, how can voters back Annalisa Taddei now?”

To make matters worse, the Tribunes have even embraced it federally, with Vice President Vittoria Vasari saying, “any man who dares violate some antiquated norms to express support for the Tribune Movement, is being more than honest, he’s declaring that we are truly the party of the Etrurian people, if even the Citizens’ poster girl can be disavowed like this, then what does that say about them federally?”

President Carcaterra told reporters yesterday, “the controversy around this is worth it. He’s made his opinion clear and its devastating to those who would undo our good work, and rip our country apart, and take whatever is left into the EC. The Duke is a patriot, he knows the truth about the Citizens’.”

The State Council of the Federation voted against investigating the incident, as the Tribunes hold a two-thirds majority. The proposal tabled by the Citizens’ leader in the upper-house was defeated 195-98, yet troubling for the Tribunes, was the fact that all but one State Councillor from their ally in the Farmers and Workers Union voted in support of the motion.

Leader of the Citizens’ Alliance, Vittoria Vetra has denounced the article and the Tribune Movement saying, “never before in the history of our country has the Federal government show such utter contempt for our constitutional conventions or norms. Not even the Tribunes heroes in the Functionalist regime ever treated the Dukes of Carvagna, Torrazza or Ossuccio with such disdain. This cannot be ignored or swatted away, this is the most disturbing case of Tribune overreach.”

Democratic Alternative for Etruria has released a statement saying, “this latest case of outright lying and deceit by the Tribune Movement cannot go unanswered. Their falsehoods, lies and propaganda are endangering the very fabric of Etruria’s constitutional system. We will work with all parties in the federal legislature to bring them to account.”

This latest scandal has hit Nuovo Mundo, which has already been questioned over its lack of impartiality. The paper is owned by Altrio Media, an outlet owned and headed by Ettore Dolce, a prominent donator and ally of the Tribune Movement. Last year, the paper was sued by the family of Vasiliy Petrov, a Marolev immigrant, after the paper claimed he was the head of a paedophile ring.

Neither Nuovo Mundo or the Tribune Movement could be reached for comment.

MAROLEVIA SEIZES ARTWORK
MIKHAIL GREORGIY WITH SUPPORT OF THE TSAR ORDERS ALL ARTWORK ON LOAN FROM ETRURIA TO BE SEIZED AND BECOME PROPERTY OF THE TSAR

Vlazselo, Marolevia - The Tribunes in Etruria yesterday have banned the loaning of Etrurian works of art to countries who are made up of primarily of Marolevs, claiming poor law enforcement and rampant criminal issues happening in many Marolevic states, which is decidedly false and rather is an attempt to hide the true racist ideals of the Etrurian Regime.

In response, Chief Minister of the Duma Mikhail Georgiy through a government memorandum announced that all works of art held by private Etrurian citizens or ones currently on loan by Etrurian Museums at the Constantine Tower or any other location that is a part of the National Heritage Organization of Marolevia, will be immediately seized by Marolevic Authorities and be transferred to the National Archives until further notice.

The Chief Minister released a statement soon after which is here in full:

"The Etrurian Regime which is bound in Functionalism and Racism shows its true colors as it bans the loaning of many valuable works to us Marolevs, rather than share in the beauty of these works with the Marolevic World would rather indulge in their greedy and racist nature. Etrurians should be ashamed of how far they have fallen from grace, we would of once considered them close friends but now they are nothing more than degenerate racists."

The Tsar himself voiced his disapproval today as well calling Etruria, "The very thing that they claim we to be, a criminal cesspit full of corruption and theft."

The works of art are to be stored within the same complex as Constantine's Tower, where they will take their place alongside some of Marolevia's artist greatest works of art in possession of the State are being held.

The works of art are currently being seized by law enforcement agents alongside OOVR troops, and a temporary halt to many suspected private Etrurian art collectors of leaving the nation as their works of art become property of the state.

Some of the paintings seized were on exhibit earlier this week at Constantine's Tower but were stopped from leaving after the flight carrying the precious works of art were grounded and the works of art seized.

Chief Minister Greorgiy while at the center of government has been pressured by the Tsar repeatedly to step up actions against Etruria and this seems to be the first among many actions to come till the racist actions of Etruria are stopped or lessened.

Many expect the step up of this to be a possibly revoking several Etrurian Diplomatic staff Visas within the nation though this has not been heard from the government and is purely speculation.

Though this comes as a surprise as they had just last month cancelled the yearly meeting between the EC and Marolevia following Gaullica's attempt to Militarize the Aurean Straits. The Tribune Movement has slammed the statement by the Grand Duke Alessandro III of Carvagna, as a “gross violation of the constitutional arrangements”, accusing him of entrapping the party and Nuovo Mundo by refuting an article in which he was recorded endorsing the Tribune Movement.

File photo: Tribune Rep. Giovanni-Paolo Donadoni called on Duke Alessandro III to abdicate on social media.

In a televised statement, the government’s chief spokesperson said, “despite the evidence and journalistic standards placed into the investigative story, the Grand Duke of Carvagna has taken it upon himself to openly lie and deceive the Etrurian people. The work by Nuovo Mundo, we have been told, was fully to the national standard. This would mean that the Grand Duke is lying and by doing so, is breaking conventions of political impartiality by brining the Tribune Movement into disrepute.

“It is there possible, that the Grand Duke has intentionally entrapped the Federal government and Nuovo Mundo, a national newspaper, in order to discredit and construct a crisis in benefit of certain political elements in Carvagna. This is without question, a serious constitutional crisis” he said.

The government has announced that it will propose an investigation into the Grand Duke’s activities to the State Council on Monday. The upper-house defeated a similar proposal tabled by the Citizens’ Alliance, albeit into Nuovo Mundo. It was defeated with politicians using the electronic voting system introduced last year.

Cabinet Secretary for Administrative Affairs, Francesco Adrizzone tweeted, “State Council to vote on launching investigation in Grand Duke Alessandro’s violation of norms. Must not allow undermining of our political system.”

President Carcaterra’s office released a statement saying, “the presidency is viewing the situation in Carvagna with grave concern. While the Federal government seeks to respect the constitutional bounds of the Grand Duchy, should this affair be found as a political machination to influence the result of a free regional election, significant action must be taken.”

Senior Tribune representative, Giovanni-Paolo Donadoni was the most vocal in a video posted on social media. He said, “this is a horrific violation of our constitution. Not only does the Ducal Household in Stazzona attack and insult the Tribune Movement in this way, but actually seeks to infringe the freedom of the press by suing the Nuovo Mundo. He has done this in support of the Citizens’ Alliance and this is a great crime, he must abdicate immediately.”

Federal Secretary of the Tribune Movement, Lorenzo Vecchione also described the crisis as a “significant and serious plot against the Tribune Movement. There is obviously some effort by the Citizens’ and the Ducal Household to influence the election result. Any one can search the internet to find that Carvagna has consistently backed globalist and elite dominated parties ever since 1983. There’s a real plot to keep Carvagna as a holdout for the establishment.”

The globalist opposition parties have taken the Grand Duke’s statement as weapon against the Tribune Movement and the federal government. The Democratic Alternative in Carvagna is seeking cooperation with Together for Carvagna to refer the regional Tribunes to the Carvantine Supreme Court, in the hope of disqualifying it from the regional election.

In Carvagna, the Tribune Movement has responded by issuing a statement reading, “under no circumstances, can we allow the Citizens’ dismal record or incompetent governance be protected by the Ducal Household. Nor can we allow this distract people from their shocking record, let this empower our votes to building a new Carvagna.”

A major crisis?
The scandal swirling around Carvagna’s snap election is unmatched by any other in recent times. A Grand Duke either lying or actively plotting against one party, the party of government no less, the threat of legal action against a national newspaper and talks of disqualifying a party from an election all rolled into one.

The crisis covers a variety of issues, journalistic standards, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, constitutionality, norms surrounding the constitutional monarchy, regional rights and elections. The biggest question surrounds whether the federal government will launch an investigation into the crisis, especially, the Duke’s role in creating the crisis. There is concern within the government that pushing the crisis further may well deepen the constitutional concerns, but at the same time, it is unwilling to allow the norms that govern Etrurian politics be trashed by a politically compromised Duke.

The one truth out of this crisis so far is that it has thrown the Tribune campaign in Carvagna into crisis, giving space to the Citizens’ who are still fighting over whether their leader, Prefect Annalisa Taddei, should even lead their campaign, a week into the election.

An Editorial Message

Nuovo Mundo is the second most widely read newspaper in Etruria. We have a long record of ground breaking journalism and investigative genius, and remains a trusted source of news for millions of Etrurians.

This crisis and the threat of legal action is devastating for this newspaper, for the first time outside the vested interests and beholden liberal cabal, we are being questioned and being brought into disrepute. This is unacceptable for a country that boasts a vibrant democracy and immense liberty.

Our coverage of the Grand Duke’s endorsement was based on solid evidence presented to us by a member of the general public. We believed that the topic of discussion on the recording was in the public interest, and when the public is deserving of news, we deliver. We strove to present the news in a balanced nature and did so in accordance to our standards and that of Etruria’s national press.

Despite calls for an apology and the release of the recording, we refuse to do both. On the matter of an apology, if every time a newspaper or TV outlet released ground breaking information, that proved uncomfortable or any individual or group, had to apologise, our freedom of expression, speech and press would vanish. We will not apologise for bring truth into the light, nor will we apologise for doing what our industry and creed demands.

On matter of the recording, to release it would endanger the safety of the citizen who recorded the conversation in question. Since 2016, the level of threatening discourse and violent rhetoric that comes from the left against those of the right has reached disturbing levels. We feel that it would be immoral and dangerous to release this recording.

We hope this situation will be resolved calmly, respectfully and within the realms of the law.

THE COALITION RUNS AMOK
With the Security Council rejecting Blanchard's proposal, various high ranking ministers in the Gaullican Government have taken it upon themselves to explain what actually happened.

Verlois, Gaullica -

Gaullica's most prolific foreign policy move in recent memory came crashing down in a tremendous show on the floor of the Community of Nations last week. The Security and Defence Committee voted against the Gaullican proposal to see a Community Taskforce militarise the Aurean Straits, with Gaullica's Euclean Allies of Estmere, Werania and Amathia all abstaining from the vote. With their lack of weight behind Blanchard, any hope of it passing were dwindled as opposition to the bill were rampant from the rest of the permanent and temporary members.

Blanchard's only official statement on the matter was that: "It is a shame to see the community reject the proposal, but the will of the community outweighs the foresight of any one nation."

Gaullica's Security Committe delegate Iseult Berlioz declined to comment in-depth but stated: "This is a forum, any proposal can be proposed and it is up to the community if they succeed or fail."

Jumping ahead of himself as usual, Interior Minister Boulanger rallied to the rejection of the bill as an "anti-Gaullican sentiment within the highest ranks of the international community. They still trust us not; listen to the cries of imperialist, functionalist and racist from nations who would happily take our monetary aide but not our military aide. Marolevia declines to speak to us despite the fact we did this within the confines of international law, Negara claims we are 'racist imperialists' yet again, but holds her tongue when development aide is waved in her direction. And yet even our allies, our supposed friends in the Community - Estmere, Werania and even Amathia watched in silence. The only major nation who stood by our side was, that which the liberal and socialist media will tell you is our enemy, Etruria. In this time we see perhaps that we have wrong impressions on who is our friend and foe on the international stage?"

Foreign Minister Coraline Barreau publicly announced in a hastily drawn together diplomatic conference that "Boulanger's words and statements do not reflect the actual and legitimate opinions of Gaullica's foreign ministry. We have no intention to reassess any possible friendships because we aren't assessing Mr. Blanchard's proposal in a hostile light and have the opinion in that this was a community decision and they decided against it. Our allies are and shall be, as always, the Community, and not a functionalist government who assaults its youth, attacks minorities and aims to divide us from our longstanding ally and truest friend; Glytter."

Reigning his party at their breaking point, Prime Minister Devereaux highlighted that "Mr. Boulanger was out of line in his statements. I believe I speak on behalf of Gaullica's defence ministry when I say we do appreciate the support of the Etrurian government in the proposal but we will not be doing this action bilaterally: Gaullica is a strong nation and a power in her own right, through military might, shared cultural ties and economic powers: but the days of unilateralism and bilateralism in matters such as this aren't possible. We do, we will, and we continue to work within the boundaries, regulations and laws of the International Community. I thank Ms. Barreau on her staunch defence of our allies, and I thank Estmere for reminding Marolevia that we as a community stick together -- even if we may differ from time to time."

Glazreki, Marolevia -
Earlier today, we are sad to bring to you that two of the sons of Tsar Constantine II, Tsarevich Andrei Constantinovich and Tsarevich Paul Constantinovich have unfortunately passed in a train derailment along with seventy eight others in this extremely tragic accident. We have received many reports and still do as this article is written, many others on the train appear to have been members of the Marolev Aristocracy and many of whom leave behind sons, daughters, and parents behind in what is considered the largest train derailment in Marolev History.

Authorities and members of the Royal Guard among others noticed something was incredibly wrong when the they start receiving reports of a derailment along the Vlazselo and Galzreki Line and emergency services were quickly rushed to the scene. Upon their arrival it was determined that both brothers had died during the initial impact of the train carriage colliding with the hill side. Though initially only sixty of those on board had died with the initial impact and the subsequent wait of emergency services an additional twenty one would later pass while in the hospital.

Soon after it was revealed that the train had derailed due to a failing not only in the air brake system but as well with the emergency manual braking system present on the train. Due to this while the train was going through a bend in the track around a rather large hill, the engine failed to slow enough causing the engine to overshoot and come off the rail and going off the side of the hill causing the death and injury of many passengers aboard.

The engineer of the train Nicholas Romanov was detained by authorities though he was subsequently released upon discovery of the failure of the brake systems. This event is a national tragedy and everyone across the nation has gone into mourning following this accident.

Multiple members of the Government have come forward to express their grief and to mourn with the Tsar during this time. Several Members of the Marolev Brotherhood Partry, such as Alexi Anton have called on the Government to reinvest itself into the infrastructure and to heighten the safety standards of Marolev Railways. Though this has been ignored and even disregarded by many calling it a 'time to mourn.'

The Tsar has not released any statements and most nobility across the nation have been silent on the matter.

There is currently an investigation into why the braking system failed that is being led by the OOVR and Royal Guards.

IRB FINDS CASARNACH CONSPIRED WITH THE TRIBUNES IN PIETRAMONTECORVINO INCIDENT
Agency alleges ex-Taoiseach coordinated the diplomatic bag scandal to oust Jimmy O'Reilly as Taoiseach last year

IRB director Ní Fhlannagáin called agency's findings of collusion between Casarnach and the Tribunes "shocking".

SPÁLGLEANN – The Independent Review Board has revealed new allegations against ex-Taoiseach Frank Casarnach, presenting evidence that the former Taoiseach conspired with the Etrurian Government to engineer last April's Pietramontecorvino Incident. The scandal forced the resignation of ex-Taoiseach Jimmy O'Reilly, creating an opportunity for Mr. Casarnach to stand in the Liberty Party's leadership contest to replace O'Reilly.

The Pietramontecorvino Incident saw Glytter attempt to extract high profile Etrurian ex-officials who are under investigation for corruption by using faked passports smuggled in a diplomatic bag. The bag was mislabeled, going against Mr. O'Reilly's claims that it was properly labeled. The incident muddied Glytter's international reputation and earned criticism from a number of Glytter's close allies, including Gaullica and the Euclean Commission.

Bríd Ní Fhlannagáin, the IRB's director who led the previous corruption investigation into Mr. Casarnach's role in a bid rigging scheme, held a press conference to announce the agency's latest findings.

She met with the National Review Board earlier in the day to brief them on the matter. Sources within Glytter's national security apparatus indicate that board was opposed to Ms. Ní Fhlannagáin to make the findings public, raising concerns regarding national security and intensifying public scrutiny.

The director said she called the press conference "in the public interest", going on to state that "the trust that has been broken between the Glytteronian public and the Glytteronian state must be mended".

Ms. Ní Fhlannagáin outlined how the ex-Taoiseach, who was sacked by the King for his role in a bid-rigging scandal that saw the IRB present charges against Mr. Casarnach, worked closely with Etruria's ruling Tribune Movement too coordinate the downfall of Taoiseach O'Reilly last year. The director claims that the now imprisoned Mr. Casarnach, who is awaiting trial for violations of the Anti-Bribery Act, established contact with the upper echelons of the Etrurian government through contacts at the Etrurian state oil company. Through this back-channel, Mr. Casarnach informed the Tribunes, including Etrurian President, Francesco Carcaterra, of the Glytteronian plan to extract high profile former officials who were charged with corruption, charges that Glytter has previously cast doubt upon.

The ex-Taoiseach found out about the plan, coordinated by Glytter's foreign intelligence agency, through contacts he had within REG and the Foreign Ministry. Working with the Etrurians, Mr. Casarnach used these same contacts to sabotage the Glytteronian operation to ensure the diplomatic bag at the center of the scandal was intentionally mislabeled.

"Such collusion with a foreign government is historically unprecedented" the IRB stated. "The scale of [Mr. Casarnach's] willingness to work with a foreign power against his own government is truly shocking".

According to text messages recovered by the IRB, the Tribunes hoped to increase their majority in the Etrurian Senate and force the Euclean Community to bend on its combative tone.

In exchange for his tip-off and subsequent intervention in Mr. O'Reilly's planned operation, the Etrurians agreed to entrap the Taoiseach by at first cooperating his story and later revealing it to be false to show that Mr. O'Reilly mislead the public and the international community on the issue. This would create an opening for Mr. Casarnach to contest the party leadership, which he did, and subsequently become Taoiseach.

Once he became Taoiseach, Ms. Ní Fhlannagáin claimed that Mr. Casarnach promised to take a softer stance on Etruria. The director also alleged that he agreed to use the powers of the Glytteronian government to interfere with the Etrurian community in Glytter. A number of high profile Etruria academics and former officials have entered self-imposed exile since the Tribunes took power in 2016. Mr. Casarnach ordered his ministers to intervene in the visa process for many of the exiled Etrurians, working to slow down the process and potentially have them deported. Ms. Ní Fhlannagáin said the Justice Ministry also opened secretive investigations into the exiled, investigating their donations to Eturrian political parties, namely the Citizens Alliance. It is understood that no action came from either of these interventions, however.

Ms. Ní Fhlannagáin declined to disclose how the IRB found out about the scheme. However, sources close to the investigation indicated they were tipped off by the Taoiseach's wife, Claire Nic Haol-Casarnach. The former Liberty chair was arrested for her role in the bid-rigging scandal and reported offered up the information in exchange for a favorable plea deal. The Casarnachs' legal team split last week, potentially offering support for claims that it was Ms. Nic Haol-Casarnach who revealed her husband's collusion.

According to senior government sources, several ministers have been interviewed by the IRB over the weekend. It is understood that the Foreign Minister, the Laird Dunbroch, was intervened on Saturday. Justice Minister Dùghall Mac Maighstir and Immigration Minister Ceasair Ní Sluaghadhán, both of which are reported to still be with police. Both could faces charges for their intervention on behalf of the Tribunes.

The IRB has promised to press charges against all of those involved in the plot to oust Mr. O'Reilly. Charges are expected to be filed against some collaborates "sometime this week", according to Ms. Ní Fhlannagáin. The agency's director said they have exposed "crucial flaws" in the Glytteronian system and have called for reforms.

"Similar to that of the Higgins-Fitzwallace Commission, this requires an official and expansive investigation sanctioned by the legislature" she said.

Many in the nation have reacted with shock. Taoiseach Humphrey Dumfries said he was "absolutely shocked" by the revelations and denounced his former ally as a "heinous criminal".

The Social Democrats have called on the electorate to back them in the coming snap election, calling an SD government "the only way" to ensure both order and trust is restored".

The revelations add to an already chaotic start to the new year for one of Euclea's most stable democracies.

BREAKING: KEY PLOTTER CLAIMS COUP HAD FEDERATION FUNDING

Image
Captain Jurren van Beek, on trial for treason against the state, made the claim during his court hearing.
Envoort, Nimear - As the high-profile trials of leading November Plotters find themselves underway, one of those on trial claims that the Federation's intelligence agency, the FIS, played a key role in funding the plot.

Captain Jurren van Beek, one of the key military officers involved in the plot, made the claim during his court hearing today; the first of many which will take place in the coming days.

The claim shocked most members in attendance, as the claim would assert that the Federation played a leading role in attempting regime change in another country. The claims echoed what had been said by pro-Koeaara movements in the aftermath of the plotters' arrest, and supported the rhetoric of the government of Moreira.

As of the current time, de Heraut has not been informed as to whether the claims have evidence.

According to Captain van Beek himself, however, such a claim may be unsubstantiated in evidence, as by his own volition the FIS were "experts" at "covering their tracks". With a lack of verifiable evidence, at the current time it would appear that the truth is unattainable; which then asks questions as to how the trial can proceed.

Already - with this unsubstantiated claim as ammunition - the pro-Koeaara camp have made it their mission to destroy Asterian-Nimearian relations, with a petition asking the government to formally condemn the Federation over the incident gathering 5,000 signatures in a mere four hours.

Koeaara himself, and the government he leads, have as of the current time made no official comment on the revelation; but sources close to the State-President have told de Heraut that there is a feeling of both outrage and relief in the government chambers - outrage at the audacity of the Federation, and relief that their fears and misgivings of the Asterian leviathan were not misplaced.

That feeling of outrage spreads far beyond government halls; across Nimear's major cities, the street protests which erupted in response to the announcement have again resurfaced, urging Mozes Koeaara to speak out against the crimes of the Federation.

The Federation has yet to make a statement on the revelation; but when they do, it can hardly be expected of them to accept the claims as fact, when they are little more than unsubstantiated rumour.

At this junction, it becomes clear that what is true becomes based on who you believe. It is now Jurren's word against that of the Federation; and that can have no positive effect, only a deterioration of relations.

President Carcaterra calls for unity in televised address.
Despite the whirlwind of crises gripping his government, the President posed a confident and passionate figure.

In a televised address to the nation, President Francesco Carcaterra admitted that the country was engulfed in a “series of crises that may seem overwhelming” but reminded Etrurians that their government “will fight tooth and nail to defend the nation’s dignity, integrity and democracy.” His address comes as further fallout over the Carvagna Affair is compounded by the illegal seizure of Etrurian art by Marolevia and shocking claims from Glytter that the government conspired with former Taoiseach Frank Casarnach to bring down his predecessor, Jimmy O’Reilly through the Pietramontecorvino Incident.
Image
The President in his office at the Palazzo Vittoria.

After a whirlwind weekend that has rocked Etrurian politics, President Carcaterra took to a televised address broadcast on all major outlets to address the crises engulfing his government and the country at large. Despite the chaos, the President sounded and appeared confident, addressing the camera at a steady pace and releasing some passion into his words. The president even offered a conciliatory word to Grand Duke Alessandro III of Carvagna, who’s at the centre of a fake news scandal gripping the Tribune Movement and Nuovo Mundo. The President revealed that he had ordered his party to withdraw a vote on investigating the Grand Duke in the State Council, while also confirming that he had ordered direct talks between the federal government and the Ducal Household in Stazzona to resolve the crisis.

The President however, offered only a brief word on the Nuovo Mundo scandal, instead, he opted to use most of his address to confront the situation with Marolevia and the shocking revelations from Glytter. The President even propagated several falsehoods and conspiracy theories, in what can be described as a clear attempt to distract Etrurians from the former.

Not only did the President launch a barrage of criticisms against Marolevia, he announced in the speech that a “special census” would be established for Etruria’s Marolevic and Epismalist populations, through concern over Marolevia’s “geopolitical threats to Euclea.” He also announced that the Finance Ministry would seize assets in equal value to artworks seized by the Marolevian government. Human Rights groups have already denounced the census and will be raising the move with the Supreme Court in coming days.

Here is an unedited transcript of the President’s address;

“Good evening my fellow Etrurians.

“In recent days, our great country and republic has been engulfed in a series of crises that have unleashed unrestrained passions and fears on both sides. These crises are inflicting pain and stress upon our country in different ways, together, they may well seem overwhelming, but know that this government and the Tribune Movement are confronting them head on.

“The crisis in Carvagna is truly troubling for all citizens and those tasked with defending the constitution and our democracy. This crisis troubles me deeply, as it stands as the starkest threat to our constitutional systems and the very political system that makes our union the most successful in history. While this crisis paints a picture of political overreach and nefarious breaches of norms and conventions, it is right, that for sake of our political stability, that it be dealt with directly.

“As such, I have ordered the Tribune Movement in the State Council to withdraw the vote calling for an investigation into the crisis. As a follow up, I have requested a high-level meeting between the federal government and the Ducal Household in Carvagna. I know, as do millions of Etrurians, that his grace Grand Duke Alessandro is a patriot, a true public servant and a decent man, therefore, it is only right that we pursue a solution with him, to see that those around him ensure a continuity of norms and conventions and that his position, sacred as it is, is maintained.

“As president of the United Transetrurian Federation, it is my duty to ensure the protection and security of our constitution and our union. This includes from dangers foreign and domestic. I, along with the federal government remain steadfast in that commitment and duty and always will be.

“Sadly, this unfortunate crisis in the domestic sphere has been compounded by two incidents abroad. The first, is an act of utter criminality, perpetrated by a corrupt, tyrannical and morally compromised monarchical regime. This unsavoury government has taken upon itself, to seize, illegally, valuable artworks produced by some of Etruria’s greatest talents, minds and individuals. The seizure of our national treasures by the Marolevian government, at the behest of the unhinged Tsar is not only an act of criminality, but an intolerable, abhorrent and vicious assault upon Etruria’s cultural history, its national identity and artistic genius.

“This illegal seizure of 43 works, both painted and sculpted, was reportedly done in response to this government’s ban on the loaning of artworks to Marolevic countries, over concerns of their safety from theft and vandalism. This act by the Tsar, not only justifies the ban, but further illuminates the truth of this dangerous rogue state.

“This is an attack on Etruria, it is an insult and an affront to our decency and positive contributions to human creativity, art and development. This is nothing short of cultural appropriation by a nation that cannot and never has been free to claim one of its own. Our nation’s historic works of the Renaissance are intrinsic elements of our heart and soul, for it to be seized by a despot is an attack on the heart and soul of who we are as a people and a nation.

“In response to this transgression against the Etrurian nation, I have ordered the Finance Ministry to seize Marolevic assets in equal worth to the artworks stolen by the Tsar. And in recognition of the security and geopolitical threat Marolevia represents to Euclea, I have instructed the Federal Ministry of Civil Security to establish a special census for all Marolevics and Epismalists currently residing in Etruria, to ensure that none are agents of a government so intent on assaulting the dignity of Etruria. We do not take this decision lightly, but nor do we take cultural, political or economic attacks upon our country lightly.

“As Marolevia attacks our cultural heritage, forces in Glytter have launched an unprecedented act of slander against Etruria. Elements within the Glytteronian intelligence community have violated norms and conventions in their country to accuse this government of conspiring with the former Taoiseach to bring down his predecessor, Jimmy O’Reilly. This is false, this is wrong, and this is absurd.

“Unlike some countries and organisations in Euclea and beyond, Etruria is not in the business of toppling democratically elected governments, nor are we in the business of violating national sovereignty to extract individuals charged with heinous crimes. At no point did any individual of this government or any state agency engage in illicit plots or plans to topple the former Taoiseach. The claims however, are being made by an establishment that is firmly fixated within the globalist system, an establishment that made clear its distaste for the now former Taoiseach, Frank Casarnach. This attack upon Etruria’s reputation and decency is merely further salvoes against him and those who would see Glytter take independent paths.

“We urge the Glytteronian government to cease this baseless attack against our country and take to serious reflection of itself, its institutions and its political theatre. Do not throw away the progress made in improving relations for the sake of political theatrics.

“While these crises may seem overwhelming, we Etrurians are a strong, resilient and dogged people. We will not allow vested interest groups, foreign despots or foreign elites endanger our constitution, our political stability or national heritage. United, we as a nation find no equal, united we overcome all crises and strife, united under God and under our flag we are unstoppable. No matter what enemies domestic and foreign attempt, we will prosper safe and secure.

“If there is one truth in these difficult days is that the Tribune Movement will forever fight and toil in defence of Etrurians all over. Know that the government and Tribune Movement will fight to defend the nation’s dignity, the nation’s security and sovereignty.

“May we embrace one another as one nation and together, overcome these troubles. May Etruria stand together. Thank you, God bless, and God bless our Etrurian fatherland.”

Analysis
By: Emiliano Rovello, Il Popolo's Chief Political Editor

President Francesco Carcaterra has most certainly honed his skills in covering all bases at once. Eager to douse the domestic flames over fake news, norm shattering and unconstitutional shenanigans to win the Carvantine election, Carcaterra has muzzled his own party from attacking and investigating the Grand Duke. Yet, to cover his own base, he swiftly uttered the conspiracy theory now being endorsed – rather than the Grand Duke conspiring with the Citizens’ to entrap the Tribune Movement, his denial of the recording was forced by his court members, by his household staff, he’s now a victim as much as the Tribunes. It is unlikely that this will simmer down the fury within Carvagna, but it will end the tension and fighting between the federal government the Duke himself.

As quickly as he covered Carvagna, the president rushed onto Marolevia’s seizure of Etrurian artwork. With this and later the Glytter crisis, he was in his element. In his eloquent manner developed through his academic career, he slammed Marolevia as a despotic cultureless threat to Etrurian security and national dignity, describing the seizure as an attack on each Etrurian’s soul. The responses may well escalate the situation, with the sudden, sad and criminal response by Tsar to the ban on loaning, being any indication. Then came the coup de-grace, he announced the establishment of a “special census” for Marolevics, a policy not adopted since the Military Dictatorship. Not only will this naturally distract the Tribunes’ critics from the domestic crisis, it will naturally raise questions of xenophobia and racism within the Tribune Movement, when it had subsided since mid-2018.

On Glytter’s incredible accusation of the Tribunes activity colluding with Frank Casarnach to orchestrate the Pietramontecorvino Incident to bring down Jimmy O’Reilly, the President was equally vociferous in his denials and anger. He all but took to the usual claim that Glytter’s state is in league with the EC to punish Etruria for rejecting membership, but he went a step further to say that the accusations were more to further condemn Frank Casarnach, who opposed some of the EC’s policies and agendas. His line on Etruria not illegally attempting to extract criminal suspects will land well not only with the Tribunes’ base, but with many independent voters who still see the incident as one the grossest acts against Etruria. Though he was conciliatory in the end, urging Glytter not to undermine improved ties – which ironically, improved under Casarnach’s brief government.

The president ended his address with the typical romanticised view of Etruria and the nationalistic calls for unity in face of crises, of his own government’s making. If the past two years prove anything, it is that unfortunately, this rhetoric reaches a wider audience than excepted. These crises won’t bring down the Tribune Movement, nor President Carcaterra. If anything, the two foreign crises may well re-secure its position, as it will allow the government and its loyalist outlets in the media to distract many voters. The question is whether this will work in Carvagna, where polls are showing a near collapse in Tribune support. But this President is a smart operator, he may well accept decimation in Carvagna for consolidation everywhere else, only time will tell.

FEDERATION DENIES FUNDING NIMEARAN COUP

In Politics-

Nimear’s government is pondering an official condemnation of the Federation after Jurren van Beek, a key part of the nation’s coup plot in November, testified that he and his conspirators were channelled funds to carry out the plot by the Federation-- specifically its intelligence agency: the FIS. Van Beek would suggest that there is likely no solid evidence or paper trail, as he told the court that the FIS were “experts” at “covering their tracks”. The pro-Koeaara sect, which has supported an anti-Asterian position, has already called upon the Nimearan government to officially condemn the Federation.

De Heraut, an independent Nimearan media source, reported that sources close to the State-President talked of a “feeling of both outrage and relief in the government chambers - outrage for the audacity of the Federation, and relief that their fears and misgivings of the Asterian leviathan were not misplaced.”

This afternoon, President Ben Avery appeared at the State House to respond to these claims. “Nimear - and particularly the Koeaara government - have been rather straightforward regarding their opinion of Asteria, recently. As a nation, we have held our tongue through the smear campaigns, the accusations of racism, the demonization-- the blaming of our country for Nimear’s own problems, and we have done so because the Federation ultimately supports the notion that peace in the Asterias is most important. The Nimearan people are the masters of their own destiny, and while it has seemed that Nimear’s leaders have been demonizing the Federation for their own political benefit, this country still holds that stance.”

“We did not participate in this kind of behavior” he would state, “nor would we. In this regard, we ask the currently-silent Nimearan government to approach this situation reasonably-- the Federation is not the cause of this problem, and we will not be held accountable for it”.

The Avery Admin. announced that it would be awaiting an official response from the Nimearan government.

Harsh rhetoric and violence mar Carvagna's elections
Heated rhetoric and violence have reached unprecedented levels in Carvagna, as law enforcement report 60 incidents since yesterday.

The election in Carvagna has turned markedly nasty, even as President Carcaterra reportedly resolved the Nuovo Mundo crisis with Grand Duke Alessandro III. The Tribune Movement has attacked the Citizens’ Alliance for turning Carvagna into a “drug den and safe haven for foreign criminals”, while the Citizens’ Alliance attacked the Tribunes for the Nuovo Mundo article saying, “a vote for the Tribunes is a vote for chaos.”
Image
Tribune leader in Carvagna, Giovanni Tulliani sparked fresh controversy after telling union members,
"I wish Duclerque had won"

The vitriol on the streets of Carvagna is reaching unprecedented levels, with widespread reports of brawling and fighting between activists from the Tribunes and Citizens. The Tribunes have gone into overdrive on social media, TV, radio and out on the street, launching multi-pronged attacks on the Citizens’ Alliance’s record and their “progressive, elitist agenda.” The Citizens’ for their part have met the Tribunes head on, with a wave of social media posts comparing the Tribunes to “arsonists” and would-be totalitarians.

In the Carvantine city of Virgilia, the Tribunes held a rally attended by well over 5,000 people. There, leader of the Tribunes in Carvagna, Giovanni Tulliani said, “how can you trust the Citizens’ when they infiltrate the Ducal Palace to entrap the Grand Duke and Tribune Movement?” he asked, “how low and how much damage will they inflict to prop up this incompetent administration?” he asked the crowd.

He also told the masses, “the Tribune Movement is the only political party that listens to you, we talk about jobs, they talk about legalising cannabis, we talk about wage growth, they talk about free tuition. We talk about security, they talk about turning Carvagna into a safe haven for immigrants.”
Earlier in the day during an event in Livaro, Tulliani sparked fresh condemnation after he told steel workers, “this horrific politicisation of the Ducal system by the Citizens’, you know, it makes you so mad. Really, I wish, and I think some of you do too, wish Duclerque had won, he would have shot all the liberals.”

Prefect of Carvagna and recently re-confirmed leader of the Citizens’, Annalisa Taddei denounced his comments in a speech to students at the Metropolitan University of Carvagna.

“This is what we face, brutality, bullying, viciousness, hate and outlandishness. Do we want Carvagna to be governed by a man who thinks not only those who oppose the Tribunes should be shot, but Euclea’s greatest dictator should have won?” she said.

“Carvagna is an open, decent and welcoming place. We stand unique to other parts of the country in this regard, this is true. But this should never be an issue of doubt or self-criticism, but rather something worth fighting for. We cannot allow the Tribunes to turn Carvagna into Solaria or Vicalvi, we cannot allow the Tribunes violate our Duchy’s good heart, nor can we allow them to taint our open spirit” she said to applause.

Carvagna’s Education Minister, Simone Amato at a separate event in Forello said, “after decimating constitutional norms, they now say they wish Duclerque won the Great War, a man almost a million Etrurians died fighting, in the belief that anyone who calls themselves a centrist, or a non-racist would have been shot. Do we need more proof they do not belong in the Grand Duchy?”
Image
Pro-Tribune groups have been blamed for the upsurge in violence.

In the port of Aviano, the deputy Tribune leader, Nero Marcelli however took to attacking the Citizens’ on their record. In a meeting with the local Aviano Shipbuilders Union, he said, “ignoring their politicisation of the Grand Duke, their lies about the [Tribune] Movement, they have an abysmal record.

“Since 2016, wage growth has fallen by 5% for industrial and agricultural workers, while wages for the top 1% have grown by 10%, the corporate types who are the masters of the Citizens’. Unemployment has risen by 3%, state owned housing has entered into deficit, industrial production has fallen 4%, your taxes have increased 10% to fund what? Nothing worthy to you or your families. Crime has gone up 11%, which sadly makes Carvagna the host of the highest crime levels in the republic. All in the space of two years” he told the delegates, “yet, when you demand action, what do they do? They talk about climate change, they talk about same sex civil unions, they talk about the importance of banking jobs, they talk about the importance of opening up Carvagna to immigrants, they talk about issues that make your lives worse, not better.”

The viciousness resurfaced in the afternoon at a rally in San Quirinio, where the TM’s spokesman for internal affairs, Augusto Ranucci said, “the Citizens’ and their smug arrogant elitism want turn the Grand Duchy into a social experiment. With their pro-gay positions, subservience to the EC and their love for Marolevic criminals. The good hard-working people of Carvagna can’t afford to live in their left-wing utopia! Never should your wages be crushed for the sake of homosexual EC-loving immigrants; never should you struggle to make ends meet so the Citizens’ can virtue signal their way through life.”

The rising rhetoric has unleashed violence, with the Carvantine Police Force reporting over 60 incidents since yesterday. At least 14 people were arrested this morning when fighting broke out between supporters of the Tribune Movement and Citizens’ Alliance at the Piazza Verona. One man, who was distributing Alliance leaflets was hospitalised after a Tribune supporter attacked him in the street in central Forello.

The CPF issued a statement saying that it would be increasing its police presence to “protect political activists of all parties and to maintain the peace during a clearly tense political period.”

Recent polling has shown the Tribunes taking a hit over the Nuovo Mundo scandal. In the latest poll by Vox, the Citizens’ led with 38%, followed by Together for Carvagna at 26%, the Tribunes at 17%, Democratic Alternative at 12% and Popular Renewal at 7%. The Tribunes on average have fallen from their peak 31% last week. The polls have also recorded a complete lack of support for the former traditional parties, the Federalists and Socialists.

Vice President Siqueira denounces Duquesne's Arthur Macron

Image
Vice President Siqueira was addressing soldiers in Fort Fernando when he slammed Mr. Macron.
Concordia, Moreira- Vice President Claudio Siqueira has denounced Duquesne’s Vice President, for his comments about President Lucia Cordeiro. Addressing soldiers in northern Moreira, he said, “if our President was Euclean, would he have called her idiotic? No, he would not. Even in defence of their country, these people can only resort to racism.” He also warned Morerians to be alert in wake of the November Plot revelation in Nimear.

Addressing soldiers at Camp Fernando in Caixas district, the Vice President was vociferous in his response to Duquesne’s Vice President Arthur Macron. The Duquesnian, in response to President Cordeiro’s call for Morerian migrants to return home to escape racism and violence, said, “this idiotic president needs to worry about the major economic troubles facing her nation before she tries to falsely label two adversary nations as inherently racist.”

Vice President Siqueira said, “Their response was predictable as it was insulting to our President and our country. Who is this man to call our President idiotic? Who is this man to say this, when our country and our President doesn’t incite racism and hatred? This man is no one.”

The Vice President further said, “if our President was from Gaullica, Estmere or even Werania. If our president was Euclean, would he have called her idiotic? No, he would not. Even in defence of their country, these people can only resort to racism.”

In recent days, Asteria Superior and Asteria Inferior has been rocked by the revelations that the November Plot to overthrow Nimear’s left-wing president, Moses Koeaara, was funded by the Federation.

The Morerian government was swift to respond, with foreign minister Júlio Botelho saying in a statement, “the Morerian government and people are horrified to learn that a vicious plot to oust a democratically elected leader of this hemisphere had the full backing of the Federation. This is unacceptable in this century, just as it was in the last. Never again can the countries of Asteria Superior or Inferior be at risk of Federation plots and schemes”, he said further, “the Morerian people stand in solidarity with President Koeaara and the Nimearian people in face of such blatant imperialism. Now more than ever, is the time for the progressive nations of this hemisphere to come together.”

The Vice President raised the November Plot before the soldiers saying, “the news out of Nimear is deeply concerning. I and others in government have urged the president to raise alertness and awareness of the threats posed by the Federation. It’s never ending desire for domination cannot accept or tolerate the existence of socialist governments in this hemisphere. We must all be ready, especially you, the guardians of the Popular Republic.”

He then proceeded to raise the soldiers into a rousing cheer as he said, “with the people and you in our great fighting forces untied behind our government and our great president, no plot by FIS, Swen or Avery will succeed. Change is coming to Asteria and Moreira leads the way, with you, our brave men and women at the vanguard.”

The National Security Service has indicated that it is stepping up surveillance of “elements inseparable from the interests of the Federation.” National Security Minister, Francisco Varela has also an increased level of scrutiny around corporate bodies and far-right members of the Popular Assembly. He tweeted, “in wake of the November Plot news, the Morerian government is stepping up efforts to defend our democracy and our republic from nefarious elements, who could attempt something similar.”

KOEAARA DEMANDS FEDERATION APOLOGISE FOR "ATTEMPTED REGIME CHANGE"

Image
State-President Koeaara was adamant in his speech; the Federation must not meddle in Nimearian affairs.
Envoort, Nimear - In the wake of the trials of the November Plotters - and Captain Jurren van Beek's controversial Monday testimony - State-President Mozes Koeaara has demanded that the Federation "fess up", in regards to the revelation that the Federation may have played a significant role in the funding of the November Plot against his government.

The move comes after a petition for the State-President to denounce the Federation over the affair gathered 25,000 signatures over the past few days; showing broad public support for the State-President, and a damning indictment of a failing Federation imperialist foreign policy, which puts white Asterians first, and the rest of the two continents second.

The State-President made the demands in a speech to press outside the houses of government, the early hours of this morning. In a roaring speech to the nation and its allies, Koeaara emphasised that while the decision had been difficult, he could not bring himself to allow the crimes of the Federation to be forgotten.

"This statement does not come lightly" he said "but it is a statement that must be made, for the sake of our democracy".

Koeaara was not lying; after he made his speech, the Nimearian foreign office released a statement, claiming that "Nimear hopes that in light of recent events, its relations with the Federation will not be irreversibly damaged".

In defiance of the wills of the privileged elite, however, the State-President powered on. "The Federation has made an attack, one which attacks our very democracy" Koeaara said, as certain advisers looked on.

"It has used subterfuge and excess, to grease palms and push our country towards regime change and despotism" he said. Koeaara went on, remarking that "the only decent thing now to do" is to "come forward and apologise for these crimes, and face the justice of the Community of Nations and the International Council for Democracy".

Such damning words from the State-President are sure to illicit a response from the Federation President.

Others have questioned whether the CN or the International Council of Democracy would be capable of dealing with the issue; many point to the recent incident regarding Etruria, where the ICD was seen to have shirked its responsibilities.

Whatever the outcome, one thing is clear; Nimearians have had enough of Federation imperialism, and are ready for a new order across the twin continents; an order which puts people first, and profit second.

CHIEF MINISTER: TIME TO TALK

CHIEF MINISTER MIKHAIL GEORGIY ADDRESSES ETRURIA IN RECENT PRESS CONFERENCE

Vlazselo, Marolevia -
Following the recent speech aired on national television in Etruria by the Etrurian President, Francesco Carcaterra, who would address a variety of crises currently plaguing his nation. He especially took note of the recent diplomatic dispute between Marolevia and Etruria regarding various works of art seized by Marolevia due to Etruria not allowing arts of work to be loaned to Marolev States. In response, ignoring his few choice words, he has stated that several state assets of equal value had been seized and this has been confirmed by our sources within the Foreign Ministry.

Due to this Chief Minister Georgiy Mikhail called for a press conference late last night, to address 'the current crises at hand' he also addressed several other topics at hand. His statement regarding Etruriafrom the press conference, ignoring reporter questions, is below in its entirety. And an analysis will be provided below it.

"Etruria has committed two crimes, one forgivable and one unforgivable. While we understand the reprisal for the seizure of artworks of which can be forgiven, we in Marolevia can not forgive is the crime of calling us lacking in culture and saying that we are trying to appropriate their supposed 'culture.' When their culture is nothing more than that of water down Artiots.

However, this does not mean that we can not come to a common understanding in these trying times. While we in government feel regret over having to secure the valuable artwork, we did not seize to appropriate some supposed culture, rather to bring our people a greater understanding of the world around us in hoping to foster relations. I on behalf of the Tsar and His Most Majestic Government, do offer an apology and as an act of good will are willing to return several of the works of art to Etruria. We would like to extend a hand to Etruria to come to negotiations and to not act in any more hasty action and let us talk it out from one beautiful nation to another. The Tsar and myself would also like to wish the Tribune Movement a swift victory in the the current Carvagna Elections. We believe they are the only hope for Etruria going forward."

With a shocking, or not so shocking turn of events we see that the Chief Minister has had to reverse his staunch position earlier this week. Before he had called the Etrurian government "racists" and "functionalists" grave insults in Marolevia but now he has issued an apology on behalf of not only the government but the Tsar as well. Many believe this is due to recent pressure by several nobles who have their assets linked to several state assets wanting to gain at least some of their assets back and have since have put a lot of pressure on the CM.

This may also be part of the fact that he is current a target of a major corruption investigation currently being investigated by the OOVR who have stepped up their efforts following the recent seizure of the art and assuring their proper delivery to the National Archive. Either way it seems the CM has announced he is willing to open negotiations up to the Etrurians

Though with these possible negotiations emerging the real question is, will Etruria come to the negotiating table and are they willing to reach an agreement with a Marolev nation despite their recent attitude to them?

AVERY: “WE HAVE NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR”
President Avery has lashed back at Nimear’s demand that the Federation apologize for “attacking” their democracy

Jackson -

Yesterday, State-President Koeaara appeared on television to broadcast Nimear’s official thoughts in regards to accusations that the FIS funded its coup attempt in November. Speaking to his people and his allies, Koeaara said that he could “not allow the crimes of the Federation to be forgotten”.

“This statement does not come likely” he said, “but it is a statement that must be made, for the sake of our democracy.”

“The Federation has made an attack, one that attacks our very democracy” he continued. “It has used subterfuge and excess, to grease palms and push our country towards regime change and despotism”.

He encouraged the Federation to “come foreword and apologize for these crimes, and face the justice of the Community of Nations and the International Council for Democracy.”

After the State-President’s address had ended, Nimear’s foreign office released a statement of its own: “Nimear hopes that in light of recent events, its relations with the Federation will not be irreversibly damaged.”
This morning, President Avery once again appeared in the State House to release his administration’s official response to Nimear’s demands for an apology in a national broadcast watched by more than 15 million Asterians. “I would like to start by simply saying that we have nothing to apologize for”. He continued, “and considering that the Nimearan government has no evidence of any kind to backup this accusation, they simply do not have the right to demand an apology.”

“Nimear’s leadership has made the alienation and demonization of the Federation a top priority recently” Avery said, “and why this is, I’m not certain. What I am certain of, is that we as a nation of grown tired of being labeled things were are not-- of being accused of doing things we did not do. In just a few years, we have become the source of every problem in the Asterias it seems, and I don’t believe this is a matter of coincidence”.

“The sudden and explosive growth of socialist movements within our southern neighbors has seen some clawing at the reigns of political power. In places like Nimear, they have seen success.” Avery would point to the seemingly-random surge in anti-Asterian sentiment in Nimear since Koeaara has been in power. “The racism claims came out of left field” he said, “what was once a serious attack on one’s character - what still is to Asterians - has become nothing more than a cheap shot for political points. It is disgusting. I have noticed a particular obsession with race when it comes to Nimearan media and leaders, and this is something that we as Asterians do obsess over. We are Asterian above all, that is something we all share, and it makes us stronger than any force that could drive us apart.”

“That said” Avery continued, “the trend shown by Nimear’s own government makes it very difficult for us to refuse the idea that this is no more than a fabrication designed to further-unite the Nimearan people against the Federation, and drive them like soft puddy of Koeaara’s far-left government”.

President Avery would then take the offensive: “However, if Mr. Van Beeks testimony isn’t fabricated by a vocally anti-Asterian government-- if it isn’t simply a desperate attempt to gain public favor, I encourage Nimear’s government to produce evidence.”

“The Federation will no longer bite our tongue when it comes to these matters” he concluded.

The Federal Intelligence Service has continued to deny any knowledge or involvement in Nimear’s November coup attempt. Director Brian Marin told members of the press that the agency had “absolutely nothing to do with this nonsense.”

Government abandons 2017 campaign promise to reform controversial Valentirian electoral system

Minister for Democracy and Local Government Gisselle Edwards referred to electoral reform as too "controversial" in the current political climate.

Valeins - Prime Minister Johnathan Bennett revealed at a press conference this morning that his government would abandon its 2017 campaign pledge to introduce electoral reform legislation.

The announcement was reiterated by Minister for Democracy and Local Government Gisselle Edwards, who called electoral reform "controversial" and "divisive" in a statement to her fellow MPs. "While this government remains committed to democratic reform, the complexities surrounding the Valentirian electoral system are too much for the current political climate to handle."

Deputy Prime Minister Tristan Teyssier, a longtime advocate for the adoption of an MMP electoral system, told the press that "reform will come in due time."

Polling conducted since the 2017 election has shown wide and cross party support for the implementation of proportional representation electoral reform. A recent survey from November of last year had MMP as the most popular option, with an approval rate of 65%.

Electoral reform became the premier issue amongst voters following the controversial results of the 2017 snap election.

Seats in the Valentirian Federal Assembly, officially referred to as Electoral Divisions, utilize a winner takes all or first-past-the-post voting system. A candidate does not require a majority of votes to win, merely a plurality.

A political party could, for example, win 5% of the vote and yet win no electoral divisions in the Assembly. The most glaring example of this is the National Liberal Party. National Liberals won 18.8% of the popular vote but only received 6.3% of seats (38) in Parliament.

In the case where a party receives too little seats in proportion to the votes they garnered, a party can also win a majority of Divisions without winning a majority of the popular vote. Progressive Republicans won 29.8% of the popular vote and yet they took 36.8% (221) of the seats in Parliament. Unity - Alliance for Liberty, commonly known as the Alliance, received 45% of the popular vote overall but secured a slim majority of 6 seats.

The results of the 2017 election created a firestorm of public backlash against the electoral process. Then NLP leader William Ashton referred to the election as the most "undemocratic" in Valentirian history.

Then Valentirian Federation of Labour and opposition leader Gaultier Babineaux signed a pledged with Ashton and Marcus Baxter, the leader of New Centre, to adopt electoral reform and pressure the government into taking action.

MPs from the junior Alliance parties, Rassemblement pour Ghislaine (Rally for Ghislaine) and L'avenir - Coalition de L'Anguille (The Future - Coalition of L'Anguille), expressed support for an MMP system as well.

After private discussions between senior Alliance leaders Prime Minister Bennett promised to pass an electoral reform bill before the next election.

The Council for Democratic Reform, overseen by Minister Edwards, worked with her opposition counterparts to draft a bill.

The government's decision has been met with a series of strong backlashes from both Members of the Opposition and the Valentirian public.

Hannah Davis, the leader of the Opposition and VFL, along with NLP and New Centre leaders Elijah Khanna and Marcus Baxter, held a joint press conference. She promised to hold the "cowardly" government accountable and will "pursue all avenues" in order to implement electoral reform before the next election.

VIVE L'EMPEREUR?

Verlois, Gaullica -

The Traditional Coalition, thought to be baying at the seams and distraught in turmoil following the rejection of Blanchard's proposal to the Community of Nations, has found itself united in common cause once again as they decisively delivered on their commitment to have a 'monarchical referendum' this year. The referendum, which will see Gaullicans vote on the situation of reinstating the Gaullican monarchy, was instrumental in the formation of the coalition - it is what garnered the allegiance and loyalty of the Party of the Old Guard.

Today during a session of the First Chamber of the Senate, Prime Minister Devereaux proposed the bill -- 'On the Referendum of the Monarchy' -- which outlined the date: April 19th, three months from today. It outlined that official campaigning would end the week before, April 12th. Furthermore, the bill established the fact that the threshold for the vote would be strictly majoritarian -- requiring solely 50% (+ 1) of the vote to reinstate Gaullica's monarchy. Additionally, it was noted that it would be a simple binary decision to the question: "Do you wish to reinstate the Gaullican Monarchy (House of Montecardé)? Yes/No."

Fierce resistance was fought against this bill, with numerous members of the Conservative Party defecting or abstaining from the bill. Curiously, it was members of the Communist Coalition who aided in getting the bill through, after they had amended its terms to include the fact that if the referendum were to fail to achieve more than 40% of a vote in favour of the monarchy, another monarchical referendum could not be tabled.

It was a heated moment in the Chamber, with representatives from the Social Democratic Party chastising their 'ideological brethren' for "letting the bill breathe, rather than killing it in its infancy." Renée Lémery, Chairperson of the Communist Coalition, retorted with "let the referendum happen, and let monarchism be dealt with an issue once and for all."

The clamours for a monarchical referendum have always been a vocal minority in Gaullica's domestic sphere. However, it wasn't until the monarchy's victory in the elections in Satucin that it being a possibility was ever tabled. A condition of the Old Guard Party's commitment to the coalition, their campaigning for the issue has been fierce -- including from Minister of Justice Evelin Montecardé, and an unlikely ally in Alfred Boulanger, the Minister of the Interior.

Campaigning has focused on a soft "traditional" approach, recalling fondly the "memories of Albert III, Gaullica's hero and president", and touching upon the softer side of the monarchy and how it functions well for tourism in Glytter. Some members clamour that it provides an "unbiased" head of state, as opposed to the politically elected presidents.

Campaigning for the Republican side has followed a similar route, with hostility between the two not having come about yet. The Republican platform highlights how Gaullica's republic has "been steady, strong and functioning" for almost 80 years, and noting that Albert himself never renounced it -- or aimed to become Emperor once more. Softer notes revolve around how ennobling it is to no longer live under dynasties based on blood, but a meritocratic system of skill.

Polls, however, show a clear favourite in the Republican side as of today. It will take serious campaigning and shifts in mentality to see a monarchical victory: but who knows, Satucin now has a King.

KOEAARA TO TAKE REGIME CHANGE ISSUE TO THE ICD

Image
The State-President made the damning announcement following "rampant Federation denialism".
Envoort, Nimear - Only a few days prior, one of the infamous November Plotters - Captain Jurren van Beek - made the shocking announcement that the plot to overthrow Koeaara's democratically elected government had been orchestrated and paid for by the Federation's foreign intelligence agency, the FIS.

It was then that Mozes Koeaara courageously stood up for our nation, and demanded that the Federation "fess up", and save themselves the humiliation of lying in international affairs.

Predictably, Federation President Benjamin Avery made false claims that the Federation had no part to play in the coup attempt, claiming in from of 15 million Asterians that his government "have nothing to apologize for", and that Nimear "do not have the right to demand an apology".

Such rampant denialism sent a shockwave through the nation, and soon Nimearian Twitter was filled with a tirade of angry citizens, criticising the Federation President and his thinly-veiled imperialism.

It was at this point that State-President Mozes Koeaara brought some sense to the whole situation. In a government address to the entire nation outside his state residence in Envoort, he tempered a measured response to the blatant lies fabricated by the Federation President.

"I am disappointed" he began, "disappointed that in this 21st century, state leaders cannot speak truthfully to one another, without resorting to baseless accusation".

Koeaara further criticised the Federation's attempt at slander and character-assassination against him and his colleagues, dubbing it "baseless conjecture" that was "entirely counterproductive".

"It has become clear to me that the Federation is unwilling to seek a meaningful dialogue with us, regarding their digressions" he told the nation, with some news reporters seeming aghast. "It is my displeasure to announce that instead, I will be going to the International Council for Democracy, to engage in dialogue with our democratic peers, in order to seek a meaningful condemnation of the actions of the Federation" he said. "In the 21st century, regime change cannot be accepted".

"The Federation has engaged in hostile action against my government - my democratically-elected government - and this cannot be accepted" he told the gathered crowds.

SCOPE OF CASARNACH'S COLLUSION WIDENS AS IRB PRESSES CHARGES AGAINST TWO MINISTERS
Nation's domestic intelligence chief says there is "soul-searching" to do as senior ministers are charged for conspiring with Etruria

Justice Minister Dùghall Mac Maighstir has been charged for his role in opening investigations into the Etrurian diaspora.

SPÁLGLEANN – Two senior senior ministers have had charges pressed against them by the Independent Research Board for their role in a collusion scandal that has rocked the national government.

Dùghall Mac Maighstir, Minister of Justice and Equality, and Ceasair Ní Sluaghadhán, Minister of Immigration and International Relief, have had charges brought against them by the country's anti-corruption agency. Both have been accused of personally intervening in the legal affairs of several prominent members of the Etrurian diaspora. These interventions were requested by the Tribune Movement, the Etrurian ruling party, in exchange for their willingness to start would what later become known as the Pietramontecorvino Incident, court documents allege.

The agency's director, Bríd Ní Fhlannagáin, called their role "deeply troubling" and said her agency would continue to investigate the actions of cabinet members. "We will continue to do our due diligence. Any violations of the law made by members of the government will be scrutinized".

Both Mr. Mac Maighstir and Ms. Ní Sluaghadhán are expected to appear in court next week. Lawyers for the ministers have confirmed the ministers, who have both resigned, would be cooperating with the IRB. Specific charges against the ministers have not been made public, per an agreement reached with the legal teams and the IRB.

The two ministers are accused of personally intervening in the affairs of prominent Etrurians who have moved to Glytter after the 2016 victory of the Tribume Movement. The IRB has alleged that Ms. Ní Sluaghadhán worked to sabotage the visa prominent for two members of the Etrurian diaspora, whose names have been withheld by the IRB. Similarly, Mr. Mac Maighstir is accused of opening a legal prove to a prominent Etrurian businessman, who the IRB also declined to name, for his donations to the Citizens Alliance, a pro-EC party that leads the political opposition to the Tribune Movement.

Both ministers have declined to comment.

The developments have generated further uncertainty for Glytter, which is facing the largest political crisis since the Occupation. The collusion scandal has sent shock waves through the nation's intelligence community. The nation's foreign intelligence agency, REG, has been cooperating with the IRB and conducting an internal review after the IRB published its findings on ex-Taoiseach Casarnach's collusion on Monday.

The director of the SFB, the nation's domestic intelligence agency, said the continued revelations were "harrowing" and promised to improve the agency's cooperation with REG.

"We have a lot of soul-searching to do" Sinéad O'Brien said.

Sources within the SFB indicate there are concerns that the IRB is overstepping in its investigation. However, the IRB has near unrestricted jurisdiction over government officials.

Nimear and Federation Feud over Coup Allegations
President Marques Swen Addresses the Issue In an Address to the Nation

Moments ago, President Swen delivered a special address to the nation regarding Nimearan coup attempt, and the subsequent accusations against the Federation. The Nimearan government experienced an attempted coup recently against the regime of President Mozes Koeaara, and the alleged culprits were recently unveiled and labeled by Koeaara himself as the “November Nine”.

In the past week, one of the nine alleged culprits, while he was standing trial, made an allegation against the Federation of Asteria, more specifically against President Avery’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Intelligence, alleging that the Federation funded the coup attempt. In addition, he alleged that President Avery himself was the mastermind of the coup attempt, and that careful covering of tracks and bribery of officials was responsible for the framing of the “November Nine” as the masterminds and executors of the attempted coup.

The Koeaara administration immediately used the baseless claim in an effort to launch a public relations barrage against the Federation, and to begin cutting the fragile diplomatic ties that have been under Nimearan Assault for years. The government published several anti-Federation petitions, which were met with full support from the Nimearan people, who all were determined to tarnish the Federation and its leaders from information delivered through unverifiable, baseless claims.

The Federation, however, was quick to respond. President Avery made an emergency announcement at the State House firmly denying the allegations made by the unnamed member of the November Nine. He said, “Nimear - and particularly the Koeaara government - have been rather straightforward regarding their opinion of Asteria, recently. As a nation, we have held our tongue through the smear campaigns, the accusations of racism, the demonization-- the blaming of our country for Nimear’s own problems, and we have done so because the Federation ultimately supports the notion that peace in the Asterias is most important. The Nimearan people are the masters of their own destiny, and while it has seemed that Nimear’s leaders have been demonizing the Federation for their own political benefit, this country still holds that stance.” He finished his brief statement by saying “We did not participate in this kind of behavior” he would state, “nor would we. In this regard, we ask the currently-silent Nimearan government to approach this situation reasonably-- the Federation is not the cause of this problem, and we will not be held accountable for it”.

The Nimearan government responded to this brief statement with a message from President Mozes Koeaara. President Koeaara demanded an immediate apology from President Avery and the Federation Government, saying that they should “fess up” regarding their involvement in the planning and execution of the attempted coup. He finished his speech by toying with the idea of possible intervention and investigations from either the CN or the ICD.

In response to President Koeaara’s address to the nation, President Avery did the same, as he gave another televised address to the nation. He began the speech with a resounding message that they had nothing to apologize for. He noted the increased hatred on the part of Southern Asterian countries in recent months, and encouraged the Nimearan government to produce evidence to back up their claims.

In the most recent response in the messy chain of events, President Koeaara and his administration announced that they were calling for the ICD to begin an investigation into the matter, and that the Federation would be exposed and held accountable for their crimes.

Here is the transcription of President Swen’s Full Televised Address:
My Fellow Duquesnians,
This week we have seen yet another example of the conflict and tension between our fellow Asterian neighbors. Earlier this week, a member of the suspected Nimearan coup plotters alleged in court that the Federation of Asteria, our closest allies, was responsible for the coup attempt. He alleged that the Federation funded the entire operation, and that President Avery was the “puppeteer” of the entire operation. This began a series of finger pointing and national addresses, where each nation has claimed that they are the beacon of truth in this diplomatic nightmare. President Koeaara, from the moment the allegations were made, began a slander campaign against the Federation and President Avery, without having any evidence or confirmation that the allegations were even remotely accurate. He called for the Federation to “fess up” for the crimes that he baselessly accuses them of, and he has now dragged investigators from the ICD to clean up the mess that undoubtedly was internal, and in response to his governing incompetence. President Avery, and numerous other senior Federation officials, have staunchly denied the accusations from the moment they were made public. President Avery has given two addresses to the nation this week, in which he vehemently denied any involvement in the coup attempt, and where he called for actual evidence to be provided to the public before baseless allegations of such magnitude are thrown around like darts.

My Fellow Duquesnians, I do not believe the accusations made by the accused Nimearan citizen accused of attempting a coup. It is not in the character of President Avery, or the honorable people that he has built his government with, to do anything remotely close to this magnitude in interfering in the affairs of foreign nations. Furthermore, I think it is childish for the Nimearan government to so publicize these allegations without doing any work to verify their credibility, or to collect any evidence to support these claims. It is yet another example of Asterian nations trying to destroy the Federation and its interests on an international stage. This is a prime example of a failing leader trying to further expand his authoritarian power by attempting to make a common enemy out of a bogus event.

It has been clear to myself, to former Vice President d’Este, to Vice President Macron, and to countless others who have been monitoring Asterian politics since our induction to the JDF, and even before, that the Federation, and even Duquesne, have been under assault from radical leftist nations and socialist leaders whose only desire is to de-legitimize our governments, and to destroy our foreign interests through coordinated campaigns of slander. Our people have seen recently similar rhetoric from the leaders of Moreria, as their incompetent leaders work to slander the people of Duquesne as racists in order to steal members of the workforce away from our great companies to resurrect their struggling economy. Additionally, this summer we saw even more coordinated assault from countless Asterian nations who attempted to define Asterian efforts to suppress the Mariranan insurgency as racists attacks against innocent civilians. This must end now.

We as a people of Duquesne stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the Federation of Asteria. We too are tired of being slandered by adversaries of the JDF who blame their hardships on other nations in order to continue to take advantage of their people by establishing unnecessary enemies through the accusation of the innocent.

The ICD should ignore the baseless claims made by the Mozes Koeaara regime. And, Mozes Koeaara needs to actually solve his homegrown problems by rooting out the true planners of the coup, and leave the Federation and her people out of this nonsense.

Thank You, and God Bless the Republic of Duquesne.”

THE TRUE NATURE BEHIND THE TRIBUNES' MOTIVATION FOR OUSTING O'REILLY
Casarnach's collusion with the Tribune Movement goes beyond petty, retaliatory politics - with one clear target: the diaspora

SHAREImage Image Image Image
Giorgio Sasso - Guest Columnist (@etruriansinglyt)

"Maybe these people just hate this country” President Carcaterra[ has previously asked about the diaspora.

SPÁLGLEANN – To say a whirlwind has ripped through Euclea the first month of 2019 is an understatement. It has claimed a Taoiseach, unleashed a constitutional crisis in Etruria and blunted the foreign policy momentum of Gaullica. Yet, it is the fall of Frank Casarnach that will define the first month of 2019 on this continent, through its near spy-thriller nature and concerning indicators of how Etruria views not the EC, as will be explained, but its domestic opponents.

When news broke of Frank Casarnach’s collusion with the Tribune Movement government in Poveglia, I shuddered in my seat. This was truly ground-breaking in its corruption, criminality, desperation and un-Glytteronian. This man, so desperate for power and influence, reached out to a foreign government to bring about the downfall of his rival. He used the government of Jimmy O’Reilly’s immoral attempt at extracting senior members of the Reali presidency before they were brought to trial for corruption, to stage a diplomatic crisis over bags containing false passports. When O’Reilly claimed they were correctly labelled, the Tribune government acquiesced, then revealed that had not been and secured independent verification. They trapped O’Reilly who promptly resigned and made way for Casarnach’s rise.

While Casarnach’s motives are clear, power, influence and revenge on O’Reilly, the motives of the Etrurian government were less clear until some days later. At the time I wondered and came to believe it was an attempt to sow chaos in an EC memberstate and one that has shown the far-right government none of the respect it supposedly deserves, but then I saw my own analysis short-changing the Tribunes. I came to believe that was too petty even for them, but then, came the next set of revelations. The Tribune government in exchange for its support of Casarnach’s plot sought efforts by his new government, to impede, interfere and perhaps ultimately, deport members of the Etrurian Diaspora that has grown since 2016. Still, many believed this was a plot to sow chaos within the EC, I do not agree, its all about the Diaspora.

According to the Etrurian Institute for Diasporic Study, there are over 4.6 million Etrurians living abroad across Euclea and Gaullica, Asteria, Werania and Estmere seeing the largest populations respectively. The vast majority of these are economic migrants, those who have moved to the developed states for education and better wages. Glytter for its part, hosts what I would call conscience migrants, such as myself. Mostly academics, thinkers, creative types, we have left our homeland because we know what the Tribunes are and what they seek from us – silence. Glytter is a safe, warm and open place, a welcoming place. Etruria used to enjoy those traits, till the Tribunes turned them into signs of weakness, now it’s just open and welcoming to heterosexual Catholic Eucleans (yes, that’s a euphemism for straight, catholic white people, which is true for Etruria).

The Diaspora has always held a prominent position within Etrurian politics. From the return of democracy in 1983 until 2016, the traditional parties accepted their moves, even went so far as to ask that become the model citizens of the Etruria it was to become, this was the same for centre-left and centre-right. On the extremes it was different, the far-left demanded they pay remittances to the state to fund development, the far-right, demanded they return home to aid in the development of the country. With the far-left only enjoying some significant support in the 60s and 70s, it was the far-right that people heard.

While many took to Moreira’s call for its migrants to return home with curiosity, “return home to avoid hate” being the clarion call, in Etruria under the Tribunes, its “return home and do your patriotic duty.” The line of patriotism ran throughout the Tribunes two general elections as the rising and governing party respectively in 2016 and 2018. With 3.5 million registered overseas voters, the Tribunes were keen to secure them, pushing a line of “Abroad you are Citizens of your Host, at home you are the pioneers and Etruria needs you.” When in both cases they secured only 20%, they turned nasty, especially following last year’s snap-election.

Social media pages for Etrurian news were seized by the Tribunes as a means of painting a picture of a country in dire need of its people. Such as a shortage of medical professionals, teachers and police.

“My mother died of sepsis because the doctor was overworked” one regular post read, “I ask Etrurian doctors abroad, come home, don’t let my mother die in vain” its follow up would read. Other times it would be stories of absolute success, “I thought of going to Werania for work, but since 2016, I’ve had over ten job offers, people abroad should come home right now and join in!” one post read.

Yet other times, usually more officially, they’re condemned as traitors, “who wants to move abroad? Be they from where ever, unless your country is in the grips of civil war or utter chaos, why go? Things here are good, Etruria is strong and getting stronger. Maybe these people just hate this country” President Carcaterra told Nuovo Mundo in an interview in 2017.

“Those Etrurians abroad are a danger. They’ll lose their identity, their history and their heritage and come back one day, spreading the soulless and fake identity propagated by the Euclean countries. If they want to lose their Etrurian identity, then fine, but don’t come back” Vice President Vittoria Vasari told party members at last year’s Tribune Movement congress.

Yet, despite the vitriol offered on right-wing pages, blogs and forums aimed at the Diaspora, an estimated 880,000 have returned home since 2016, heading straight in to the rapidly growing industrial workforce. The Federal government has increased wages for medical and teaching professionals, boosting the number of professionals in clinics and hospitals. But, these professionals and migrants are what the Tribunes want, and not those I call conscience migrants. We’re according to the IRB, are the main targets of the nefarious exchange.

Unlike other right-wing populist parties of past and present, the Tribune Movement isn’t a blunt instrument that exploits anger and disenchantment with the status-quo. They’re, ironically, a party led and founded by a group of far-right academics, professionals and former establishment figures. They took to exploiting anger with precision and finesse. They have an ideology and agenda that extends beyond immigrant-bashing, EC-hating and elite-cursing. Their ideology and agenda is a economically dynamic, militarily powerful Etruria and one that is at one with itself, or rather one that is unapologetically nationalist. And to achieve that, you need as little domestic opposition as possible, because to them, democracy has failed Etruria three times, it failed in the Great War, it failed to confront secessionists during the 60s and 70s and failed when it attempted to kill Etruria by joining the EC. And so, to destroy opposition you need to starve it.

According to IRB, Casarnach agreed to impede in visas, citizenship grants and even drew up a list of prominent Etrurians in this country to deport back to Etruria. Interestingly these Etrurians are wealthy, liberal, pro-EC and donate regularly to the Citizens’ Alliance, the centrist opposition party in Etruria. If there is one thing the Tribunes fear, is a highly motivated, well-funded Alliance. While it suffers from regular bouts of infighting, the Alliance is the best chance we have of seeing the Tribunes brought down, and they know it.

The Tribunes seek unlimited power federally and at the state level, no doubt confirmed by its disgraceful behaviour in Carvagna. They seek total domination of Etruria’s political system because criticism and doubt are the “makings of Etruria’s self-destruction”, according to President Francesco Carcaterra’s controversial best-seller, “A Solarian Etruria”. A Citizens’ Alliance, flush with cash from the Diaspora is a party with the means of mount a formidable defence of democracy and freedom, cut that off and the Alliance is forced to rely on corporate donors and its members. The former, falls directly into the Tribunes crosshairs as a “party of the globalist banker.”

With Casarnach’s fall, no doubt the Tribunes will seek to block international political party donations through legislation. That they have yet to do so means they in turn receive donations from abroad, who is yet to be determined. If they are trounced in Carvagna, which looks more and more likely, then they’ll most likely attempt to discredit the Alliance’s victory as a result of “gross international monied influence.”

While I believe the Tribunes sought to use Casarnach as a means of power-playing domestically, I will accept that in part they saw an opportunity to bring disunity to the EC’s policy toward Etruria. A pro-Etruria Glytter would offer some counter-balance to the rabidly anti-Tribune Estmere, further making Weranian ambivalence empowered and with Gaullica’s new government, it would have been a boon to the Tribunes. Not only that, but the fall of Casarnach has decimated to the political party of EC President Alexis Walker, who is a favoured boogeyman of the Tribune’s grassroots and left Glytter in political chaos, which no doubt is a entertaining spectacle to the would-be authoritarians in Poveglia.

Make no mistake, this is the deepest political scandal and crisis in Glyteronian history for decades. But this is just the beginning of the Tribunes pursuit of those in the diaspora who they see as threats to their power and control. While not solely aimed at destabilising EC policy or the community itself, its side affects on one of its memberstates will be welcomed. I just hope that the EC is prepared to meet Etruria’s intentions and plots.

GAULLICA MUST ATTEND ANNUAL SUMMIT BETWEEN MAROLEVIA AND THE EC FOR ESTMERE TO ATTEND, SAY SENIOR OFFICIALS

Euclean Secretary Percy Wyvill also urged Werania to sit out the talks.
Ashcombe, Estmere- Yearly talks held between senior officials from throughout the Euclean Community and Marolevia may look to be back on, but unless Gaullica is invited to attend Estmere will sit out the summit, top officials have warned.

Foreign Secretary Anne Buckett was joined by the Secretary for the Euclean Community, Percy Wyvill, for a press conference regarding a recent Marolevic overture. Vasiliy Alikin, the Marolevic Foreign Minister, had recently approached Estmerish and Weranian diplomats offering to reopen talks between the EC and Marolevia. Marolevia had previously pulled out of the yearly talks over its opposition to a Gaullican proposal for the Community of Nations to militarize the Aurean Straits. The Foreign Minister has said that Marolevia is willing to attend the talks, on the condition that Gaullica not attend due to the recent chill in relations between the two nations.

While Ms. Buckett said that she was encouraged Marolevia has changed its mind about attending the talks, she voiced opposition to the request that Gaullica not attend. "The Euclean Community stands firmly together. The Estmerish Government will not exclude the Gaullicans because Marolevia disagrees with a failed Community of Nations resolution".

"Gaullica must attend these talks for them to be constructive. Without Gaullica, Estmere will not attend".

The Euclean Secretary echoed Ms. Buckett's sentiments, arguing that "a meeting without Gaullica is not truly representative of the [Euclean] Community".

"There is no Euclea without Gaullica" Mr. Wyvill said.

He went on to urge Werania to sit out the talks if Gaullica was not allowed to, calling on the government of Chancellor Viktor Oberhauser to make a similar declaration. The Euclean Secretary signaled he was confident Werania would agree to a show of Euclean unity.

"I anticipate we will have a united front on this one".

Despite the warning that Estmere would sit out the summit if Gaullica was prohibited from attending, both senior officials agreed the talks should take place.

Ms. Buckett praised the talks as "a forum for multilateral cooperation to ensure the future stability of our shared continent", hailing past summits as a "tremendous success".

Indicating further support for the annual summits, the Foreign Secretary said it "is a model that we should take a shared sense of pride in". She went on to argue the EC should consider initiating a similar yearly meeting with senior officials from Etruria.

"It is most disappointing that Marolevia has requested Gaullica not attend the talks. However, these talks should still go on. Marolevic officials should meet with members of the Euclean Commission. This dialogue is crucial to ensure a mutual understanding and the spirit of cooperation between the [Euclean] Community and Marolevia can continue".

A statement released by Prime Minister Rupert Richardson echoed the sentiments expressed by his cabinet secretaries. "The Prime Minister will not be attending a summit that excludes the Gaullican Republic". The Estmerish Prime Minister has attended each summit since they first began.

For its part, the Euclean Community has expressed optimism that Marolevia had agreed to reopen the yearly talks. Sources close to the Euclean Commission indicate that top officials are supportive of holding the talks bilaterally between the EC and Marolevia, but still wish for Gaullica to attend.

BARREAU: IT IS PRECISELY IN THESE TALKS THAT MAROLEVIA CAN RAISE HER GRIEVANCES

Verlois, Gaullica -

The annual diplomatic talks between top diplomats from the Euclean Community and Marolevia have seemingly been on a process of rescheduling, after Marolevia initially announced a cancellation, but on the condition that Gaullica not attend. The issue, incredulously, stems from Gaullica's proposal of Aurean militarisation to the Community of Nations.

The Euclean Community, though readily available to - and wishing to - continue the yearly discussions between the East and West of the Continent, has presented itself in solidarity with Gaullica's apparent exclusion.

Estmerish Foreign Secretary, Anne Buckett, alongside the Secretary for the Euclean Community, Percy Wyvill, held a joint press conference about the issue. Ms. Buckett said: "The Euclean Community stands firmly together."

Following showings of disunity amongst the Euclean Community's member states with Gaullica's attempted resolution, optimism is expected with this issue. Mr. Wyvill said he expected "a united front" on the issue of the bilateral talks. Estmere itself aims at dissuading Werania from attending the talks if Gaullica is to be excluded, a move that the Gaullican Foreign Ministry expressed its gratitude for.

Gaullican Foreign Minister Coraline Barreau announced during a press conference that this was a clear showing of the solidarity between the Euclean Member States and reaffirmed that "nothing had changed" in regards to Gaullica's diplomatic relations, harking back to out of line comments made by the Minister of the Interior earlier this month. "We, as a nation, thank Estmere for sticking up for us. As allies should. Let it never be said that Gaullica does not value her friends, regardless of any minor disagreements held. We work around them. As friends we tell each other when we've gone too far."

"Of course Gaullica should be included in these talks." Ms. Barreau had stated during the conference. "Even more so if Marolevia has grievances against us. That is the purpose of diplomacy. We'd like to be involved in these talks concerning the relationship between the Euclean Community, its member states and Marolevia."

"The resolution failed, Mr. Alikin, there is no reason that something brought to the Community floor should stand in the way of aiming to repair any damage done to our relations. Gaullica has attended all previous summits and, indeed, was instrumental to their success and foundation - as were all other participants, equally. These talks enable us to discuss in open forum about the Euclea we share and we wish to see, the Euclea we wish to leave behind for our children and their children."
