Government and Law Enforcement officials briefed the media on updates regarding the investigation into the senseless attack on law enforcement this past week. The 4 attackers are members of a Mariranan gang. This gang is notoriously violent, and they often stop at nothing to protect their drug trade. The deceased attacker, identified as Jose Ramirez, had previously been imprisoned in the small jail held at the station, and he had particular grief with several of the officers stationed there. The other three attackers, all of whom have been released from the hospital and remain in high-security police custody, are identified as Marcos Pacheco, Jesus Flores, and Mariano Ruiz. While they were never in custody in the specifically targeted station, they all had experience with colleagues being arrested, mistreated (in their poor opinion), and ultimately brought to the station. During interrogations, they revealed that they were to follow the strict lead of Ramirez, who was considered the leader of the operation. Going in to the attack, Ruiz was tasked with obtaining the firearms, which he successfully accomplished by robbing several hunting cabins with other gang members who he continues to refuse to identify. Pacheco was tasked with finding and driving a vehicle to and from the station. Given his previous experience as a getaway driver, he would ideally be able to evade police with his driving skill and knowledge of the area. Lastly, Flores was tasked with monitoring his stolen police scanner, to be able to predict and prepare for the police offensives during the operation. Police Chief Jacques Gallagher commented, “Local police precinct like this are extremely threatened on a daily business due to the close proximity to the border, as well as the high magnitude to the Duquesne border. We truly need help on the federal level in order to combat these problems plaguing not only the safety of our officers, but the overall well-being of society”.
Chief Gallagher also referenced the fear in the precinct among officers that could potentially be targets. “We are working closely with neighboring departments to potentially relocate certain officers for their and their families’ safety. This attack reminds the public of the incredible danger that the police departments face on a daily business.”
Governor Mary Barquett (CD) also spoke at the press conference, talking about the provincial government’s commitment to the local departments. “The government of Grand Marecage is committed to the public’s safety, as well as the safety of our brave Police and Emergency Services. Instead of being rewarded for their tireless work for the removal of drugs and drug traffickers in society, there are 15 brave officers who had their lives stolen while fighting to protect their families, and the people of Duquesne. This attack is yet another example of the dis-service that Mariranan immigration does to our country. Instead of denouncing our country, I call on the JDF to seriously look at the problems and threats facing our people before they publically and globally insult our efforts to protect our people.”
General Mark Madson, Chief of the Duquesne National Border Patrol also pledged further work into the drug trafficking issue. “Before the recent action taken by President Swen to increase the size of the Border Patrol’s presence on the Mariranan border, the Border Patrol was forced to rely, and sometimes depend, on the local police precincts to handle the drug trafficking rings along our border. The Duquesne Border Patrol is committed to working hand-in-hand with local departments in order to keep deadly drugs off our streets, and to keep terrorists like these 4 men the hell out of our country.”
Following the Press Conference, the Governor's office announced the deployment of 3,000 National Guard troops to the Mariranan border to assist the Border Patrol, as well as the overworked local precincts. This is still an ongoing investigation, so stick to the SRG for updates regarding the National Tragedy.
