Freemasonry is dead on our world. It died out ages ago during the Royal Bigtopian War of Great Distress. Bigtopian soldiers would not comply with the United States of America on our world to embrace the Freemasons living on Bigtopian land as Americans. The only Freemasons living at that time were slaughtered by the Bigtopian militia causing a war between The USA and Bigtopia. Bigtopia won the war. Chadtonia was not involved in this war.

Freemasonry is not illegal but is close to if not totally extinct in Carloso. This is mostly due to several actions taken against the organisation in the 1950s and 1960s and the ongoing cultural and political stigma of membership. Several political parties have actually banned anyone found of colluding with freemasons or having membership in such organisations, a policy which persists into the modern day with the current National Salvation political party. In direct contrast, many Carlosian freemasons fled to neighbouring Bourgougia, where a strong tradition exists still.

Freemasons are accepted, with several key government officials being members.
This place is not a place of honor... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here. What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us.
The danger is in a particular location... it increases towards a center... the center of danger is here... of a particular size and shape, and below us.
The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours. The danger is to the body, and it can kill. The form of the danger is an emanation of energy.
The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.

Given that it's the least secretive secret society ever, it's legal. However, most citizens don't particularly care about it.

Freemasonry is banned. Only members of the Government and Elite should be permanent members of the Imperial Cult of the Emperor.

Not in the nation, as of yet. Many Kahlistani citizens actually refuse to join any kind of faction or organization, though, as they are seen as 'silly' and 'counterproductive' by most.

Freemasonry (Indonesian: Kemasonan Bebas / Dutch: Vrijmetselarij) is legal in Hindia Belanda, although membership has fallen dramatically in the last five years. An overwhelming majority of Masons in Hindia Belanda belong to Continental Freemasonry, which allows political discourses to be held during its meetings. They do not, in any way, recognise other lodges following Anglo-American Freemasonry. Masonic lodges in Hindia Belanda operate under the Grand Lodge of the Commonwealth (In Indonesian: Loji Agung Persemakmuran or in Dutch: Grootloge van het Gemenebest), whose Grand Master (Suhu Agung or Grootmeester) is currently Prince Mangkulangit Seribukunti. Being a Mason whilst Minister of the Crown or a member of the Shadow Cabinet is constitutionally forbidden, due to the very political nature of Freemasonry in Hindia Belanda where lodges routinely make known to the public their views on current political affairs of the country.

Freemasonry has had a long and colourful history in Hindia Belanda. The successful Eurasian and Pribumi (native) emancipation movement was started by Masons, both of European and native descent, who secretly met during Masonic meetings to avoid the suppression of any native political movements by the trading company administration (Dutch East Indies Company / VOC). For this reason, many Masonic figures are held in high regard by the Hindia Belandan people for their role in the emancipation movement and for standing up against discriminatory policies of the Dutch East Indies Company (from 1762 until 1800) and the Colonial administration (from 1800 until 1949).

Freemasonry was first introduced to Hindia Belanda in 1762 by Jacobus Radermacher, who was the son of the Dutch Freemason Grandmaster Joan Cornelis Radermacher. Jacobus established the lodge “La Choisie” in Jakarta (then Batavia) and garnered the support of some 20 other European men. La Choisie did not exist long, however, and technically it was never recognised as a proper lodge since the constitution for the lodge was only issued in 1777. By then, Jacobus had gone back to the Netherlands and disbanded the short-lived lodge.

Former members of “La Choisie” soon felt the need to reestablish a lodge in Java, thus in 1771 was born the lodge “La Fidèle Sincérité” in Tandjong Prijoek, Batavia. This new lodge established itself on the banks of ‘Kanaal Al-Andalus’ or Moorsegracht at an inn called “Dapoer Api”, which belonged to a French man Pierre Damais and his Javanese wife Hayu. Damais became a member of La Fidèle Sincérité in 1772 and his wife Hayu, alongside the wives of middle class Dutch men, started an offshoot of Freemasonry for women called “Lodji Poetri-Poetri Mata Hari” in 1781.

La Fidèle Sincérité was in its beginning a very egalitarian lodge, uncommon at the time, being made up mostly of middle to low ranking VOC officers, sailors and Mardijkers, who were descendants of manumitted Christian slaves in the East Indies. It admitted its first native member in 1849, forty nine years after the end of Company Rule and the establishment of Hindia Belanda as a crown colony of the Netherlands.

In 1769, two years before La Fidèle Sincérité came into being, a prestigious lodge named “La Vertueuse” made up of the crème-de-la-crème of colonial society was founded by Jan Hasselaar in Batavia. Amongst its members were Pieter G. Overstraten, Governor-General of the Netherlands East Indies (1796 until 1801) and ancestor of Marcus Overstraten, the current Prime Minister of Hindia Belanda (in Astyrian canon) or member of the Dewan Deputi (in the main NS canon); Nicolaas Engelhard, Director and Governor of Java’s Northeast Coast (Noordoost Kust) and Jan Reynier Coortsen, a high-placed VOC official who chaired the administrative and trade centre of the trading company called the Kasteel.

La Fidèle Sincérité would later merge with lodge La Vertueuse to become “Loge De Ster in het Oosten” or “Lodge Star of the East” in 1850. Unsurprisingly, members of the progressive and inclusive La Fidèle Sincérité initially despised members of La Vertueuse, who they conceived as a group of classist and close-minded people and thus at odds with the principle of equality that members of La Fidèle Sincérite dearly upheld.

The newly merged De Ster in het Oosten campaigned heavily for the construction of public libraries and schools for all residents of all ethnicities. In 1856, with the financial support of its own members, De Ster in het Oosten built an expansive public library called the Library of the Great Architect of the Universe (Bibliotek Arsitek Agung Alam Semesta) in Weltevreden which was and still is open to the general public.

Masons such as Frederik Hermanus de Hoog were most critical of the colonial government’s engagement in the Aceh War. According to the Staatsblad (State Gazette) of 1804, a group of Masons staged a protest against the colonial government in front of the Stadhuis in Batavia and were consequently arrested for ‘disturbing the peace’. They were later released the same day but only after having endured public canings.

The work of Freemasonry was ultimately instrumental in bringing about independence of Hindia Belanda as a sovereign state within a voluntary association of equal states called the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Nowadays, however, Freemasonry is seeing a dramatic drop in membership due to its increasing unpopularity amongst the younger generation of Hindia Belandans who look down upon such fraternal organisations as ‘out of fashion’.

Some famous Masons from Hindia Belanda include the famous painter, descendant of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad and noble Sayyid Raden Saleh (admitted in 1836 by lodge “Eendracht maakt Macht” in The Hague and later, after his return to the East Indies, became a member of “Loge De Ster in het Oosten”); Abdul Rachman, great-grandson of Sultan Usman Alkadrie of Pontianak (admitted in 1844 by lodge “De Vriendschap” in Soerabaja); Prince Paku Alam V who reigned over the Principality, and later Duchy, of Pakualaman (admitted in 1871 by the historic lodge “Mataram” in Yogyakarta, whose building now hosts the Provincial Legislature of Yogyakarta); Dick de Hoog (unknown date of admission); Dr Radjiman Wediodiningrat, renowned Theosophist and founder of the nationalist movement ‘Boedi Oetomo’ (admitted in 1913 by lodge “L’union Frédéric Royal in Solo) and Sultan Hamid II Alkadrie of Pontianak (allegedly admitted in December 1948 by an unknown lodge, just a year shy of the independence of Hindia Belanda as a constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands).

Freemasons are allowed, and are surprisingly popular. They face very little discrimination, so they tend to gather here. Freemasons who are discriminated against seek shelter in Iahselene.

Freemasonry is rather rare, but it is influential. Kynelandic freemasonry is anthropocentric, which glorifies humanity as a supreme being in of itself.

Kynelandic freemasonry is closer to continental freemasonry than anglosphere freemasonry.

Freemasonry in Wunderstrafanstalt

Freemasonry (in contrast to other, more peculiar groups such as Skulls and Bones or Lucifer's Own) is widely accepted and enjoyed a religion-like social status in Wunderstrafanstalt. In fact, 32% of the population and frankly 100% of high-ranking individuals is a member of some degree, which is virtually needed in order to climb the social ladder. Only 4% however follows the apolitical "dogmatic" teachings while the rest is part of the more tolerant, more power-grabbing focused "liberals". Command is centralized within the right-wing Niendelberg Group, although opposed by leftist masons in the Secret International.

After the transpartisan "Young" faction overthrow the corrupt "Old" in 2018, there has been several important reforms.
-The occultist practices is simplified and changed to suit the general acceptance of the (significant) religious members. More freedom is also granted to attract fresh new professionals.
-The 13 Secret Families lost its protective special status in favor of free market financial competition.
-Highest leadership transferred to the member-elected Supreme Leader position inside the Niendelberg Group while the hereditary "Grey Pope" is abolished.
-Literally hundreds of totalitarian world control schemes, mass depopulation plans and global indoctrinations from the "Old" faction has been unveiled and scrapped. The order's official goal is now to "guide humanity into Type 1 Civilization."

Due to ongoing reforms, Freemasonry is slowly transitioning from a fringe, occultist, blasphemous influental secret order that control world events into just the standard, boring influental secret order that control world events.

Freemasonry in Zitravgrad is a mixed bag to the oblivious general public. The Freemason Lodge are seen as an invisible force behind the government (and even behind the world, you know, conspiracy theories are fun), or some sort of devil-worshipping secret society. This fact is also a mixed bag -- take it as you want. This might not meet with real-life Freemasonry, but rather adjusted to my worldbuilding.

The Zitravgradian Freemason Lodge is more or less a bland meeting of the educated elites, who have rules and laws on sharing their trades and knowledge. They have their own passwords, codes and secret handshakes. The members are actually so few that most members in Providenska recognize one another on sight. The Lodge takes care of the members (i.e advice, financial loans, connection) and their family (in case the member is decreased. The center figure of worship is known as "Divine Providence", the same Providence to Patron Saint of Providenska (the capital city) and Black Providence. As much as they are cooperative with one another, it is a part of the rules NOT to exploit the Lodge for personal political and economical benefits. BUT there seems to be no rules against the Lodge collectively getting into politics if it meets their purposes. There are actually many Freemasons in prominent positions, like in the Cabinet or the Workers' Party.
