What is its Meaning? (colors/stripes/symbols)
The black is in remembrance of the revolutions (New Belgium from Belgium, and Ankuran from New Belgium). The red represents the strength and fortitude of the Ankuran people. The white is the continued peace and prosperity of Ankuran.
If your flag has symbols or insigniae, what do they represent?
The crossed key and spanner device represents the union of production and administration under the Ankuran people. The laurel represents the sovereignty and independence of Ankuran. The bottom-right section (with the fleur-d'etoile) is the original flag of the Ankuran revolution, featuring the common starlily, which would later become Ankuran's national flower and a symbol of Ankuran's sovereignty, independence, culture, and history.
Explain The Flag's Origin
The flag was selected as a winner in a public referendum and is based on the creator's fondness for strong socialist heraldry.
Who Designed it?
Francois Duvalier du Loc, outspoken socialist.
Is it Commemorating Someone Or Something?
No.
Does It Have More Than One Version? (old/new)
Yes.
In real life, how did you design it?
When I first signed up, I was scrolling through the available flags, and immediately fell in love with the flag of Angola. At the time, I'd never heard of Angola and knew nothing about it, but I loved their flag. The basic design was nailed down pretty quickly, mostly through trial and error and my fondness for socialist heraldry. The fleur-d'etoile was from another project. I ended up not using it in the other project, but liked it so much I decided to incorporate it into Ankuran's history and iconography. Eventually it came to also represent the common starlily, Ankuran's national flower.
