The survey's result tells us that around 92% of the population are Sunni Muslims. Not only is Islam the largest religion, but as stated by Royal Decree No. 348, Islam (specifically the Sunni branch), is the official religion in the Sultanate.

By virtue of number of adherents, the main religion in the Freehold is Islam. This occurred through conquest of Caliphate lands, and the high birth rate of Muslims world-wide has resulted in 37.2% of the population self-identifying as a practitioner of any of the sects considered Sunni, whilst 9% adhere to a sect of the Shi'a divide. When combined, that's 46.9% of the Freehold who call themselves Muslim.

It should be noted that whilst the Ephyral tend to look down upon Islam as a primitive and savage desert superstition, freedom (or indifference) of religion is permitted by the Freehold. So Muslims are permitted to hold to their faith, but sectarian violence between their groups is not discouraged on any religious grounds, and the Freehold only ever interferes if the fighting escalates to a point that threatens the Freehold. Whilst Islamic law, and certain Islamic practices are prohibited (and those who engage in them are to be punished), routine violence between Arab sects and tribes simply does not warrant enough interest for intervention. The Freehold would rather these people killed one another over their backwards ideas than the more civilised peoples of their empire.

By definition of state-endorsement, the main religion is that of Ephyral polytheism. With 33% of the population, including most native Ephyral as well as some non-Selian Ephyral citizens, it is in fact the second largest religion behind Islam, and overwhelmingly more supported by the citizenry themselves for being far less primitive, critical of scientific advancement, or brutal towards non-adherents.

Many Selian Ephyral converted to Christianity during the Ephyro-European wars as territory traded sides, and today there are Selian-blooded Ephyral citizens whom adhere largely to Orthodoxy. In the reverse, European peoples such as the Slavic and some Germanic and Roman Ephyral citizens converted to Ephyral polytheism.

Many Ephyral cultural facets appeal to some of the religious tenets of other faiths. Monotheism of the Abrahamic faiths is the overwhelming majority of religion, with Muslims, Christians, and Jews collectively forming well over 60% of all religious adherence. For example, in Orthodoxy, Coptic, and other Christian denominations, and to a more hardline extent in Judaism and Islam within the Freehold, women are typically kept subservient. This is reflected but not outright mirrored in the Ephyral prohibiting of women into politics and military, though a case can be made for the Ephyral valuing women more. In Orthodox Christianity, attitudes towards women have become more positive, whilst in other strains of Christianity and other religions, the attitudes remain closed.

It is illegal for example for women to wear the abaya and burka. However in the most heavily Muslim areas this is still done. Female genital mutilation for Islam, and circumcision for Judaism, are both prohibited.
As this is deemed more grave of a crime than women wearing specific clothes, it is prosecuted more aggressively, but is again still thought to be practiced.

The Freehold is having to address a cross-roads of what happens when tolerance of religion meets an intolerant religion. State education programs and other measures of Ephyralisation have been working to deconstruct a unified idea of islam, Judaism, and Christianity, to better divide their faiths and slowly convert the populations to more acceptable and docile tenets, mirroring those of the Freehold and the Selian Ephyral.

The Russian Orthodox Church and various Protestant tourists seem to flock in. This makes sense given the nation's location being a place where the sun rises first.
