Year Round or Traditional Schools?

Postby Eeri » Sat Mar 13, 2010 3:22 pm

Does your nation's school systems use a year round, traditional schedule? Year round being the duration of the calendar year with interval breaks, and traditional being for a set time with a long vacation period. Or does it all just depend on the school?

In Eeri education is year round for all schools. It was traditionally optional for all schools but legislation introduced in the 70's created a year round to keep the students of Eeri on better part to compete with the international schools. Although this is a mandate schools are allowed to give flexibility in duration of the school day especially for children living on farms where it's required to work with their parents as well as older students with part-time jobs. Universities and colleges on the other hand do not fall into this mandate and set their own schedules.

Public schools, colleges, and universities are in session 11 months of the year. The month of June is a national holiday so for the duration of the month there are no classes in session. Graduation ceremonies usually take place in June. They also have off for other national holidays throughout the year.

Private schools, colleges, and universities can set their own schedules.

Obviously we don't have school on every day of the year. The breaks are the entire months of April, August, and December. The school year starts in January.

Year-round, the traditional school year arose from farming practices, CM, which has had a truly negligible amount of farming families for almost a millenia, has evolved past such worthless schedules.

Since ACH-SAN works on a federal level, the school year is regulated by each state/territory's own Department of Education, subordinated to the Achalsantinian Department of Education.

Federal regulations are that the school year must have at least 180 days minimum with two semesters of twenty weeks each, thus making 40 weeks of school.

Most states have a school year from August to mid-December (1st Semester) and mid-January to late May (2nd Semester).
Other states have a school year from late-August to mid-December (1st Semester) and mid-January to early June (2nd Semester).

Graduation dates are also organized by each county, though most have them on late May to early June.
Testing occurs on a week in Spring, again regulated by the states.

Public and Private School Boards are permitted to decide for themselves, though they must have the same amount of work days, which equates to 9 months in total. Most urban schools follow a year-round plan, while rural schools use traditional summer month vacations

Math, the Sciences, and Language skills, are taught to whomever requests it, only if they are meeting quotas as is, if accepted to a Librarium-Scholaris, a student is taught by the most extreme methods for a week (we utilize special technologies in this teaching.) given an exam, then sent onto their second class. Classes are fourteen hours long, every day of the week. Most students then go on to serve in the Military, or apply for special positions in her Imperial Ecclesiarchy.

Typically, schools in the Kiravian Empire close for most of the summer, with some smaller breaks in the Winter and Autumn.

As Education is an area under the jurisdiction of individual member-states, there are some variations between states due to differences in climate, œconomics, population distribution, and culture.

Our Schooling is done entirely on the Internet, like most other politics.

There is no dates, but core content that the students must accomplish.

The faster they do it and better they do it, the faster they earn a living and a nice job. And its personalized entirely by themselves. (Some constants of course)

Primary & Secondary school is held 6 days of the week from 9am to 5pm with a 2 month break in December/ January and a 2 week break in April. On Saturdays there is all day physical education where students can participate in the sport of their choice, for the infirm there is the option to participate in other hobbies for this day, but a medical certificate must be obtained for this exemption.

Tertiary education programs operate on many timetables to cater for the most amount of people possible.
