While it may seem odd that a poor North African state like Traza has such a large numbers of old Mercedes, the truth is that the majority of these cars were imported to Mawani, Traza's predecessor state, in the late 1980s and early 1990s after the Mawanian oil boom in which the nation became economically stable and the roads were dominated by hundreds of old Mercedes cars. After the People's Republic of Mawani collapsed in 2016 during the civil war, when the city of Traza declared independence, many people brought with them their old Mercedes after seeking refuge in the independent city of Traza.
