Gay Marriage Policies in Your Nation

Postby Stacramon » Sun Mar 19, 2017 9:26 pm

In the last few years, gay marriage has been a very major topic of discussion in the world. Whether you support it or not, most people have very strong opinions about it. Therefore, out of the number one cat-killing concept of curiosity, the Democratic Empire of Stacramon is surveying the world, or rather the small but representative number of people who will reply to this, about their nations' policies on gay marriage. Just fill out the form in the code below to the best of your ability. Every nation who replies will get a personal response from Stacramon's emperor, Emperor Quincy Nuvoe. This could be advice, general comments, or criticism. Thank you for choosing to look at this, and I wish your nation the best.

-Best wishes,

Ambassador Ed Juran

Gay Marriage Policies in the Stacramite Empire

Postby Stacramon » Sun Mar 19, 2017 9:49 pm

Is gay marriage legal in any parts of your country, or has legislation on it not been passed yet? Currently all states of mainland Stacramon, the Colony of Balianica, and the Colony of Libernita. The Colony of Brezlesheek has yet to pass legislation on gay marriage.
If no, why not? N/A
Are there any regions, states, provinces, etc. in your country that gay marriage is illegal? There are a few provinces in Brezlesheek that have made it illegal, but for the most part, no.
What percentage of your population is homosexual?
Mainland Stacramon- 38%
Stacramite Balianica- 51%
Stacramite Brezlesheek- 25%
Stacramite Libernita- 41%
Have religious or atheistic beliefs influenced your decision to make gay marriage legal or illegal? No
Are schools allowed to refuse LGBT people? Absolutely not, and any school that does is immediately condemned and shut down by the government. Normally schools that do this are sold to other schools and universities.
Are jobs allowed to refuse LGBT people? Refer to the previous answer, but replace schools with workplaces and universities with companies.
Are restaurants and other services allowed to refuse service to LGBT people? No services may be denied to gay people.
Are LGBT people allowed to adopt? Duh

Is gay marriage legal in any parts of your country, or has legislation on it not been passed yet? Gay marriage has been legal since the mid 50s in federal law.
If no, why not? N/a
Are there any regions, states, provinces, etc. in your country that gay marriage is illegal? There were a few municipalities and regions that protested against the change in the law, arguing against it as a form of sodomy and it being hedonistic, so a few laws exist on the books somewhere with regards to gay marriage being officially illegal. Most were struck down in the Supreme Court in a landslide victory of 7 v. 4, but there are some that are not currently enforced that still exist to this day.
What percentage of your population is homosexual? The Ardrentt Census Bureau official numbers for the sexuality and gender component of the census, going by LGBTQIA, is that 2.5% identify as lesbian, 2.4% identify as gay, 5.6% identify as bisexual, 1.6% identify as transgender, 17.5% identify as queer (Queer implying a general spectrum of sexuality ranging from demisexual to polysexual alongside with those who already identify as LGBTIA), 0.9% identify as intersex and 1.4% identify as asexual.
Have religious or atheistic beliefs influenced your decision to make gay marriage legal or illegal? The general public's increasing belief that while religion is indeed an important part of one's life, it should not overrule the world in which they live in and in Ardrenttide culture, a lot of that rests on being empathetic to the people around you, even if you disagree with them, alongside simply allowing them to live their lives the way that they do because ultimately, their personal beliefs are just that and should not affect their interactions with the people around them if it inflicts harm onto others: The government's position swayed along with the public's.
Are schools allowed to refuse LGBT people? No.
Are jobs allowed to refuse LGBT people? No.
Are restaurants and other services allowed to refuse service to LGBT people? No.
Are LGBT people allowed to adopt? Yes.

This nation is what happens had the Anglo-Japanese Alliance developed further and resulted into something like Austria-Hungary. As a result, the USSR takes Japan's place in the Axis, and Japan is still part of the allies during World War 2. The war ended due to fear of nuclear war.

Good job on your non-discriminatory policies, but we would recommend not allowed private schools to reject people based on sexual identity alone. It just doesn't seem right.

Your Majesty,

It is with due respect that we allow private schools to reject people based solely on sexual orientation, provided the school in question is religious in nature, and the religion practised sees sexual deviation as a taboo. Restricting them from disallowing people based on sexual orientation alone may be infringing on the right to religion.

That said, we do not allow secular private schools to reject people based solely on sexual identity.

I hope you understand our stance on this.

Is gay marriage legal in any parts of your country, or has legislation on it not been passed yet? It has been legalized in the state of Racalco, which also holds the accolade of being most socially liberal and open in the Union. In other places it is either not recognized or straight on illegal.
If no, why not? Palenquan culture is very conservative and looks down upon such acts.
Are there any regions, states, provinces, etc. in your country that gay marriage is illegal? In much of the constituent city-states it's written in law that it is illegal.
What percentage of your population is homosexual? The government does not keep statistics on such things (besides due to our federal nature any census is considered a nightmare for the bureaucrat), but estimates place it at around 1.3%, with most hiding their sexuality.
Have religious or atheistic beliefs influenced your decision to make gay marriage legal or illegal? In religious rituals of some city-states in ancient times homosexuality was in fact part of the ritual, but these interpretations of the Kaytzil religion has since fell out of favor. Modern mainstream interpretations and practices oppose homosexuality as a degeneracy.
Are schools allowed to refuse LGBT people? In most states yes.
Are jobs allowed to refuse LGBT people? See above.
Are restaurants and other services allowed to refuse service to LGBT people? In most states yes.
Are LGBT people allowed to adopt? In the states where their relationships are not officially criminalized, yes.

Is gay marriage legal in any parts of your country, or has legislation on it not been passed yet? It is not legal.
If no, why not? It is not legal because marriage is defined under the Marriage Act 1902 as a covenant between a man and a woman. Furthermore, Nortan culture views such aberrant tendencies disgusting and highly shameful.
Are there any regions, states, provinces, etc. in your country that gay marriage is illegal? Whilst it is not explicitly illegal, marriage is only possible between a man and a women in all counties and regions.
What percentage of your population is homosexual? It is believed to be around 0·0000045 percent, or around 144 people. 48 men have been prosecuted since 2000 for sodomy.
Have religious or atheistic beliefs influenced your decision to make gay marriage legal or illegal? It is very likely. All issues relating to marriage are in the control on the Church of Nortend, the official position of whom is that marriage is defined as a word to be a holy sacrament that binds a man and a woman together in matrimony. Furthermore, the Church of Nortend is a fundemental part of Nortan culture, life and society with around 97 percent of the population adhering to the religion and around 80 percent attending church services at least once a month. Hence, it is understandable such laws are in place.
Are schools allowed to refuse LGBT people? The government is bound to provide primary education for all subjects. Therefore, state schools do not discriminate against sodomites or buggers and instead focus on leading their pupils down the path of righteousness rather than down the path of sin, sodomy and despair. However, public and independent schools are permitted to refuse to accept any person on most grounds.
Are jobs allowed to refuse LGBT people? Yes.
Are restaurants and other services allowed to refuse service to LGBT people? Yes.
Are LGBT people allowed to adopt? No. Only married couples may adopt.

It should be known that sodomy and buggery are both illegal in Great Nortend and punishable technically by death.

Is gay marriage legal in any parts of your country, or has legislation on it not been passed yet? At the federal level, there are no laws governing marriages between same-sex couples; this is due to the understanding that it is not the place of the State to determine what is or is not a bond that predates it.

TL;DR: de facto legal.
If no, why not? N/A
Are there any regions, states, provinces, etc. in your country that gay marriage is illegal? N/A
What percentage of your population is homosexual? 13%
Have religious or atheistic beliefs influenced your decision to make gay marriage legal or illegal? No; the NVI as a nation-state rose from a libertarian foundation, hence the understanding that the State has no place in defining what is or isn't a marriage.
Are schools allowed to refuse LGBT people? Yes--see note.
Are jobs allowed to refuse LGBT people? Yes--see note.
Are restaurants and other services allowed to refuse service to LGBT people? Yes--see note.
Are LGBT people allowed to adopt? Yes.

NB: While it is legal for institutions to discriminate against any group of people, as a matter of principle, this is rarely invoked; merchants that close their doors to a portion of the market are merchants that have lost potential customers to the competition, as it were. Discrimination is expensive, people! ;)

Although I do not approve of this and suggest a change in attitude, it's not my place to judge you.

It would appear that your nation is too far gone for any advice I could possibly give you.

At the federal level, there are no laws governing marriages between same-sex couples; this is due to the understanding that it is not the place of the State to determine what is or is not a bond that predates it.

TL;DR: de facto legal.

Have religious or atheistic beliefs influenced your decision to make gay marriage legal or illegal? No; the NVI as a nation-state rose from a libertarian foundation, hence the understanding that the State has no place in defining what is or isn't a marriage.

NB: While it is legal for institutions to discriminate against any group of people, as a matter of principle, this is rarely invoked; merchants that close their doors to a portion of the market are merchants that have lost potential customers to the competition, as it were. Discrimination is expensive, people! ;)

If no, why not? Homosexuality was decriminalised in 2014, amid massive riots with most Alizerians opposing it. There is currently very little public support for gay marriage.
Are there any regions, states, provinces, etc. in your country that gay marriage is illegal? It is illegal in the entire country
What percentage of your population is homosexual? Estimated 5-8%
Have religious or atheistic beliefs influenced your decision to make gay marriage legal or illegal? Yes. Alizeria is a very religious country.
Are schools allowed to refuse LGBT people? No
Are jobs allowed to refuse LGBT people? Sort of. There are people who have been refused jobs due to previous convictions for homosexuality from before it was decriminalised.
Are restaurants and other services allowed to refuse service to LGBT people? No
Are LGBT people allowed to adopt? No

If no, why not? N/A
Are there any regions, states, provinces, etc. in your country that gay marriage is illegal? No.
What percentage of your population is homosexual? Unknown; it is not considered an issue important enough to document. Nor do the tribes, which make up the bulk of the population of Brellach, participate in the Census.
Have religious or atheistic beliefs influenced your decision to make gay marriage legal or illegal? Yes. Brellachi spirituality teaches that love is transcendental; opposite sex, same sex, both sexes, makes no difference. It is a gift from the goddess to be enjoyed, not something to be tied up in rules.
Are schools allowed to refuse LGBT people? There are no laws around this, as it has never been an issue.
Are jobs allowed to refuse LGBT people? There are no laws around this, as it has never been an issue.
Are restaurants and other services allowed to refuse service to LGBT people? There are no laws around this, as it has never been an issue.
Are LGBT people allowed to adopt? Yes.
