What are lawyers in your country like?

In Kwunjin, Lawyers who earned over $400,000 a year are hanged. It keeps a check on corruption.

When they do their job properly, yes.

When they use sleaze ball tactics and try to distort the truth in their clients favor just to win a case knowing they're not engaging in proper justice, no.

The latter would also be against the law. There is a code of ethics lawyers have to pledge to, and breaking it is not a good idea.

People here do not like it when lawyers are thieving, conniving and money-hungry bastards but tolerate them as long as they do a good job. Respected? Really, only the civil rights lawyers and public prosecutors are respected. Although there is a portion of the population that understand and respect private lawyers for the job they do. Small.

Not more so than the average profession, many people view them as scum suckers, others as a first defense against tyranny.

We do not have "lawyers" as such, but the closest equivalent would be the role our simivir monks serve as tribunes. A lower caste vir who believes they have been wronged by an aristocrat may appeal to the tribune, who in turn will call upon the aristocrat to account for his actions. Since simivir are of the priestly caste, any aristocrat is expected to hear their case. They may not act upon it, but an aristocrat that disregards a simivir's plea runs the risk of being placed under interdict by the priesthood for impiety. This is no idle threat, since an aristocrat under interdict has lost the moral/legal authority to rule, and their lands and property may be seized by any other aristocrat "in the name of upholding justice".

Needless to say, simivir are beloved by lower caste virs and respected (if not liked) by the aristocrats.

All crime is juged by hypnotyseing the suposed gilty party to say if they comited the crime or not. Therefore, we have no need for lawyers and therefore none.

Although Konataland has no lawyers (all disputes are settled by a Scarlet Weather Rhapsody match), we absolutely despise them, for they threaten to sue us over something as petty as foreign copyright laws, and deny our citizens anime.

Because our judicial motto is "guilty until proven innocent", our people tend to respect prosecutors more than attorneys.

The Nation of Kreigan has council lawyers which are lawyers who have to go to a Council College which is the best college a citizen of Kreigan can go to to get a good job. (very expensive or free if serve 6 years or more in Military) where they pick Council lawyer classes and study Kreigans Laws and the Council courtroom rules. All of this takes 4 years to acheive and when they finish council college they are ready to be hired by the council as a Prosecuter or an Attorney. The pay is very good since it takes alot to become a council Lawyer.

Lawyers are very respected, all government officials must have studied law at the Imperial Academy. Plus, before His Imperial Majesty reestablished the Han Empire as the Xin Han Empire, he was a very successful corporate attorney and government prosecutor.

All lawyers are government employees and thus are not corrupted. So yes, many are respected.

Although a highly paid and upper-class career, lawyers are about as hated as any other representative of capitalism in Iotor...Which isn't that much. What with the government taking bites out of their salary, and the low rate of crime, lawyers aren't as highly paid as most foreign lawyers.

Lawyers in our country are known as arbithrôt. They are well respected, since they are employed by the High Commission of Advocates and the Judiciary and have to comply to a rather strict oath and code of conduct - those who don't can lose their careers.

Ramset lawyers are respected for the necessary dedication to their career to make their way through the education and training needed to become a lawyer.

Beyond that, most people would prefer a duel to a trial, since the private sector lawyers are price-gouging wankers with overblown egos and severe cases of unwarranted self importance.
