Allamunnic National Athletics Alliance
"Promoting On-Field Excellance and Off-Field Citizenship"
Est. 1984

"I turned on the TV to watch some nice, good, ol' fashioned violence, and then, suddenly, a hockey game broke out!"
-Heinrich Grimm, speaking at a banquet for the benefit of the Zagreb Hockey team, 2002

The ANAA consists of the official association of seven major sports within the Federal Republic: Gridiron Football, Ice Hockey, Field Hockey, Football/Soccer, Baseball, Lacrosse, and, amazingly, jousting/tourney.

Sports play a large part in entertaining the people of the Federation, and there are major professional leagues in multiple sports, most of which are popular throughout most of the Federation.

The most majorly followed sports are as follows:

Major League Sports:

Football (Gridiron):
American Football is generally acknowledged as the most popular sport within the Federation, and just about every major city has its own team. Football stars are national celebrities. Often enough, they have spent time in the Federal Army, which in the eyes of some of the more conservative families, mean that they are appropriate role models. Irresponsible behavior (drunk driving, drug use of any kind) are often rewarded with expellation from the League. The Fanboyist National Football League holds its Super Bowl every year in March. A regular season consists of 18 games, and the number of play-off games is five, including the Championship. A list of teams is as follows, based on conference. There are 80 teams in four conferences.

Ice Hockey
Ice Hockey is easily the second-most popular sport in the Federation (after football). Again, most major cities or provinces have at least one team. The Anders Cup is the award given to the ultimate champion of the league, and is named after Walther Anders, a celebrated player who led Copenhagen to three back-to-back championships and another six others. The Fanboyist Ice Hockey season begins in late November and ends in April. The regular season has 64 games, and there are four rounds in the play-offs, excluding the Championship.

Lacrosse
Lacrosse is the newest of the major league sports to take root in the Federation; it didn't become popular until the 6th World Lacrosse Championships, in which the debuting Volunteers, composed entirely of semi-pro players (the up-to-then highest level) managed to go 7-1 in total play, making an appearance in the finals and losing at literally the last second to sporting powerhouse Dancougar. The enthusiasm was quickly merited, as the Lax Volunteers remain to date the most successful Fanboyist international team after following up in the 7th World Lacrosse Championship by winning the championship over Newmanistan. A proper national professional league was formed shortly thereafter, and while not as popular or wide-spread as gridiron or ice hockey, it is quite popular and well-followed. The league is considerably smaller, with only 24 teams.

Field Hockey
It is anyone's guess as to why field hockey is so popular in the Federation. Regardless, most major cities or provinces also have a field hockey team. The season is 14 games long, plus a four-round playoff.

Baseball
Baseball is, technically, a major team sport in the Federation in the loosest sense of the word: it does not have a particular following, as many view it as too boring. There is just enough interest to merit a national league. But not much more than that.

Jousting
It's anyone's guess as to why Jousting is popular in the Federation. Probably the old militaristic roots. Regardless, many cities (and private clubs) host jousting teams and tournaments. A club tends to have between 4 and 8 members, who play individually or in pairs. All weapons used are heavily blunted and proper armor is worn. Jousting and tourney are very rigorous sports, though not as popular as some other sports. Skraelings tend to be very good at this.

Football/Soccer
(OOC: I personally know next to nothing about soccer, so I'm not going to really be using it for anything in here, thus the lack of much detail here. The extent of my knowledge is that scoring is good, and punching people out is bad.)
Soccer is also quite popular in the Federation, and, again, most cities have a team. Most are not as well-publicized as the teams for other sports in the city, but they are present all the same.

Minor League Sports:

Dodgeball
Dodgeball is actually sort of the opposite of baseball in the Federal Republic; Dodgeball is only barely a Minor League sport, as it's following is actually rather large. It's a rather interesting sport, as well, because of inherent silliness and melodrama that tends to follow people with names like "Patches O'Hoolihan" and teams like "The Certified Public Assassins."

Rugby
This is generally viewed as gridball with wierd pacing.

Basketball
Basketball has a limited following in the Federation, of similar scale to baseball.

Ultimate Frisbee
Has a growing following, after contact with athletes and citizens of the Babbage Islands.

Handball
It's following is growing, as a result of contact with athletes from the Babbage Islands.

Curling
Curling is not so much a sport as a national joke. Most people think it is exceedingly silly.

Bowling
Bowling has a following. A rather small one, like golf, but it's there.

Golf
Golf has a following. An even smaller one than bowling, but it's there.

Tennis
Tennis has a following. That following tends to be foreigners. Go figure.

National Teams:

Initially, the "National Team" status went to the National Champion in each sport, leading to inconsistancy in quality in the national teams.

The Vienna Barrons competed in World Bowl VII as the Fanboyist National Team, but following challanges and the basic weaknesses of each individual team coming to the fore, it was decided that henceforth, national teams will be selected from nominated players from each team, who will begin practicing together as soon as the national championship ends. Coaching staff will be selected by a conference of ALL coaches of the sport at a professional level.

FNAA International Sports Involvement:

Gridiron Football

WB VII - Vienna Barrons competed as national team; international sports debut of the FNAA.

Silver Bowl I - Iron Tide compete, lose in first round to Sibirsky.

WB VIII - Fanboyist Iron Chargers compete as national team; plays to third round of qualifying, only to lose to Qazox, 17-0.

WB IX - Fanboyist Volunteers compete as national team; they score the first gridiron victory over Qazox in OT, and secure first ever international playoff berth of a Fanboyist team. Lose 35-21 against Newmanistan in the Round of 16.

WB X - Fanboyist Volunteers nearly win group, and manage to make playoffs for a second time. Fall to Dancougar in Round of 16, 17-14.

Ice Hockey

WCoH X - Fanboyist Rolling Blues compete as national ice hockey team for the first time. Finish 3-3-4.

WCoH XI - Fanboyist Volunteers compete as national ice hockey team; win Toonmar Group, only to fall to Taeshan in opening round of the playoffs, 3-2.

WCoH XII - Not yet complete.

Association Football/Soccer

WC 48 - Iron Tide wins two games. Football/soccer team did not return for WC 49.

WC 50 - Critical failure of Soccer team. Didn't return for WC 51.

Baseball

WBC 14 - Failure.

WBC 15 - Failure.

Basketball

WBC Something - Failure.

Lacrosse

WLC VI - Fanboyist Volunteers compete for first time as national team. Surprise everyone by defeating lacrosse power Newmanistan three times en route to finals. Loss by one point to Dancougar in Championship game.

WLC VII - Volunteers lose one game in the group stage to rival Qazox, but go otherwise undefeated en-route to a Championship victory over Newmanistan. First Fanboyist team in international competition to win a tournament championship.

The Fanboyist National Collegiate and Academic Athletics Federation (FNCAAF) provides support to all sports participated in at a varsity level by colleges, universities, and high schools. The most followed more or less mirror the professional sports followings: gridiron, ice and field hockey being the most popular.

FNGL Records and Notable Statistics:

Greatest Game Ever Played:
There are several games that are considered by many people to have earned this designation. Some of the more commonly regarded ones are:

3rd Iron Bowl (November 5th, 1932) - Derrick Crimson Tide v. Mobilston Tigers - Score: 16-14 - Numerous future Hall of Famers played in this tough, slogging match, from which the Tide emerged victorious; drives were well-played against tight defenses, and big plays were made on both sides of the ball. Legendary quarterback Kyle Reynolds (#14, Crimson Tide) passed for 214 yards, with another 121 yards run for by the Tide; numerous drives were halted in the red zone, accounting for high yard numbers but the relatively low score.

1944 AGC Championship (February 12th, 1944) - Thomasburg Ironmongers v. Wilsonville Monitors - Score: 15-10 - One of the many times the Ironmongers and Monitors have met at the FGC Final, this game was a close, down-to-the-wire game, with the Monitors coming from behind to win in the final seconds of the game. A Hail Mary touchdown pass for 66 yards from Monitors quarterback Mike Grylls (QB#16, Monitors) to wide reciever Ronnie Herman (WR#33, Monitors) is still referred to as "the Sacred Sixty-Six" by Monitors fans, and effectively sealed Grylls' fame.

1968 National Championship (March 16th, 1968) - Vickersburg Rebels v. Innsbruck Ravens - Score: 24-21 - The 1968 Federal Bowl was the first time a wildcard playoff team won the Championship; the Rebs had been seeded at the bottom with a 9-7 record, and was playing top-seeded Innsbruck. The Rebels managed to break the all-time rushing yard record, with 643 rushing yards (but only 73 passing). Halfback Scott Innes (HB#31, Rebels) ran for 597 of the yards, while FB Dave Phillips (FB#54, Rebels) ran for 36 yards and QB Greg Lassiter (QB#13, Rebels) ran for 10 yards.

1989 Alpine Bowl (March 19th, 1989) - Vienna Barrons v. Innsbruck Ravens - Score: 2-0 OT - Arguably one of the greatest defensive battles in FNGL history, the 1989 Alpine Bowl managed to pull off having some of the lowest yard gains and lowest scores of any non-tie game (ties occur only in special circumstances) in Fanboyist history. The Barrons, led by QB Leo Bromm (QB#7, Barrons) and halfback Wilhelm Gott (HB#26, Barrons) rushed for 17 and 69 yards respectively, with Bromm only throwing 72 yards. The Barrons defense recorded four picks, six sacks, and one safety. The Ravens offense only passed for 54 yards and rushed for a total of 78 yards, with their defense recording three picks and five sacks.

All-Time Greatest Players:

Kyle Reynolds - #14, Derrick Crimson Tide, Quarterback (Played: 1928-1951) - Born October 7th, 1906 - Died January 4th, 1973 - First of 'the Gunslingers' in the FNGL, (first great passing/pocket QB) passed for over 27,000 yards and 481 touchdowns over a 23-year career with the Crimson Tide. Led the Tide to 7 National Championships.

Dave Zimmermann - #25, Derrick Crimson Tide, Halfback (Played: 1926-1942) - Born April 2nd, 1904 - Died June 29th, 1968 - Ran for over 22,500 yards over a 16 year career, scoring 439 touchdowns, helped lead the Tide to six national championships.

Andrew Spivey Sr. - #7, Thomasburg Ironmongers, Quarterback (Played 1933-1952) - Born June 11th, 1911 - Died August 9th, 1974 - Led the Ironmongers to their first set of National Championships, passing for over 24,000 yards in a 19 year career, with 298 touchdowns.

Other "Semi" Records:

Worst Blowout:
1959 Iron Bowl - Derrick Crimson Tide v. Mobilston Tigers - Score: 105-0 - This game should never have happened. The Tide was entering a great year, and the Tigers had one of the worst squads they would ever be saddled with. The result was humiliating, with the Tide scoring more than 100 points against the Tigers, and the Tigers failing to answer a single score.

Best Underdog Victory and Best Comeback:
1985 Alpine Bowl - Innsbruck Ravens v. Vienna Barrons - Score: 44-21 - The Vienna Huskies were purchased by the city of Innsbruck at the end of the 1976-1977 season, in a move widely considered base treachery by the people of Vienna. It was considered so underhanded that 21 players from the Huskies left almost immedietely. 16 of them returned in 1978 to help Vienna build a new team, led by Huskies former QB Willy Rickenbacher (QB#15, Barrons) and HB Willy Studdenberger (HB#20, Barrons), who helped forge a new Vienna team, the Vienna Barrons. They led the new team for seven years, and as the 1985 season drew to a close, Rickenbacher and Studdenberger announced they would be retiring at the end of the year. Their final game was to be the 1985 Alpine Bowl. Until this point, the Barrons had not managed to score a great victory against their archrivals, Innsbruck. The Alpine Bowl began badly for the Barrons, with the Ravens taking a 21-6 lead at the end of the first half. However, a lockerroom transformation saw the Barrons come back in the second half, scoring five touchdowns and converting three PATs, to come back and win,k 44-21.

Most Yards (Passing) in a Single Game:
Quarterback Kyle Reynolds (#14, Crimson Tide) - Derrick Crimson Tide v. Syracuse Hurricanes, October 9th, 1943; Reynolds passed for 722 yards in a 56-7 blowout over the 'Canes.

The FNGL has been in existence (in some form) since 1930, though club teams were playing even earlier than that, dating back to the 1890's. A national champion has been crowned almost every year since then. The league started with only a dozen teams, but has since grown. A list of national champions is as follows. The Crimson Tide (first Derrick, then Copenhagen) hold the most national championships, with 13. The Ironmongers, Ravens/Guards, and the Crimson Tide are the only teams to have won three national championships in a row. The first gridiron match in the Fanboyists was played on November 28th, 1898, between the Derrick Gridiron Club and the Mobilston Gridiron Club, which was won by the GGC over the MGC 3-1. This is retroactively known as "Iron Bowl 0", as it was the first in the traditionally played series between DGC (Later the Crimson Tide) and Mobilston (later the Tigers).

Starting Rosters:

Team: Monitors
City: Wilsonville
Stadium: Spivey Field at Faust Mining Stadium, Wilsonville, The Borderlands
Team Colors: Black and Royal Blue
Head Coach: Thomas O'Donnel

Offense: The Monitors play with a very flexible running system, wherein a tight-end is often pulled back to play as an additional running back. This gives the quarterback three possible runners (excluding himself), or on screens, three targets (wide recievers assissting in blocking). The Wolves aim for speed on screens (to keep the opponent off balance) and trickery and up-front power on runs. Long passes are done occasionally, but are not particularly common and are not the team's forte.

Defense: It's often said the offense wins games, a defense wins championships; few places is that more true than in Wilsonville. The Monitors had one of the best defenses in the country, in each of its regular season victories holding opponents to less than 10 points, and even in its three defeats, allowing no more than two scores. The Monitors play brutal strength, up front, with little subtlety; they have a 5-2 front, occasionally with an end falling back to play as a linebacker, but usually not. Four DB's give solid pass protection, but blitzing is where they shine.

Team: Barons
City: New Vienna (unofficialy)
Stadium: Barons Stadium, New Vienna (Capacity: about 125,000, Turf Field)
Team Colors: Royal Blue, Silver, Burgundy
Head Coach: Wilhelm Studdenberger

Offense:
The Barons use a run-and-gun offense, as having a strong line and running back corps ensures that running is the Huskies' strength, though the introduction of a dynamic quarterback two seasons previously, Dane Zacks (though he has left the team), prompted an increase in passes, screens, and trick plays in the team's aresenal. Two-point conversions are attempted whenever it is logical.

Defense:
The Barons are all about hitting hard and up-front. They use a 4-3 set-up (though they have been known to fall back on a 30-stack), largely, and place a large emphasis on strong pass rushes and blitzing. The secondary is strong enough, but is not such that it can be called a major strength of the team. The Barrons's defense is largely what allowed them to win the 2010 FNFL Championship, as it gave adequete breathing room for the offense to work.

Team: Ironmongers
City: Thomasburg (Unofficially)
Stadium: Filie Stadium
Team Colors: Black and Silver
Head Coach: Rick O'Malley

Offense: The Ironmongers are not a spectacular offense; they don't need to be, either, as, much like the Monitors and the Barrons, they have an iron-strong defense. The Ironmonger's emphasis remains on running, though passing is good enough. However, they rarely use screens, and the offensive coordinator has shown depressingly little imagination when it comes to play-calling. The Ironmongers tend to use brute force, to 'shove the ball down the other team's throat.'

Defense: Like the other two teams outlined above, defense is where the Ironmongers shine. They run a 4-3 defense, with four DB's. Emphasis is on penetration by linebackers and applying hard pressure to the quarterback; sacks are not so much emphasised as forcing bad passes is, which, in the pass-heavy AGC North, is usually the best option anyway. All-or-nothing blitzes are rarely attempted.

Team: Huskies
City: New Vienna
Stadium: Huskies Field at Veterans' Stadium, New Vienna, Alpinae-et-Dalmatia-Nova (ADN)
Team Colors: Silver and Light Blue
Head Coach: Heinz Grummel

Offense: The Huskies, the official team of New Vienna (though they are perennially challanged by the Guardsmen and Barrons) have managed to develop a high-powered passing offense, which for almost all fronts utilizes four recievers, with five linemen and one runningback, who tends to assist on blocks. The formidable offense is led by Barrons veteran Dane Zacks, who has been instrumental in coordinating an offense that seems almost custom made for a dynamic passer like Zacks. Runs are not used often; short gains are made usually via short passes or screens.

Defense: Unlike the Barrons, their perennial rivals, the Huskies leave something to be desired on defense. While the defense is competent enough, it is nothing compared to the strong offense. Primary focus is on the linebacker corps, of which there are four, with three down linemen, and four defensive backs. The line is used to clog up potential runs, while the linebackers are used for major blitzing and play-stopping. The secondary is fairly good.

Team: Chargers
City: Filia
Stadium: The Battlefield, Filia
Team Colors: Scarlet and Silver
Head Coach: Andy Stopher

Overview:
The Chargers, in their brief history since the TGC was added to the NFGL in 2012, have had an interesting history; they started their inaugural professional play with a 2-14 season, followed it up with a 4-11 season then improved with a few good draft picks and personnel changest to 9-7 in the 2014-2015 season, then going undefeated for an Imperial Championship in 2015-2016 with a 21-0 season. With plenty of size, speed, and versatility, the Chargers are arguably the best team in the league at this time, followed by the Barrons, Titans, Ironmongers, and Monitors. They had an average of almost 40 points per game (offensively, defensively, and on special teams) over the entire season, leading the league (and the next runners-up, the Wolverines by a 14 point average) easily in points scored.

Offense:
Versatility is the name of the Chargers' offensive game; be it inside running, outside running, the option, short, medium, or long passing, or screens, its all there; the Chargers' have an offense with the enviable ability to adapt as game's progress and weaknesses can be found in the opponents defense, the offense re-taylored to them, and to simply exploit the slightest mistakes or patterns in defenses. The Chargers' offense was not great until two years ago, when they managed to secure QB Joe Anderson and RB Danny Quinn coming out of college, who promptly gave their screen, rushing, and longer passing game much needed boosts; in two years, the Chargers went from a 4-11 team to a 23-0 National Championship team, scoring an average of 38.5 points per game, and winning only the third blowout in a national championship game, with a score of 45-3 over the Tarsus Titans.

Defense:
If the offense wins games, defense wins championships, not that the Chargers' defense is amazing, not on the level of the Barrons or Ironmongers in terms of sheer up-front power and , but its a big play-making defense, with 114 points in its own right over the course of a 23-0 season (16 safeties, 14 touchdowns), as well as an average of two fumble recoveries and two picks per game (forcing a total of four turnovers outside of downs per game, roughly), making the Chargers, on a scale of one to ten, the real deal. The primary front is the versatile 3-4.

Team: Rebels
City: Skarrsboro
Stadium: Raadrik Waarfytur Memorial Stadium, Skarrsboro, Skraelingia
Team Colors: Teal, Steel Grey
Head Coach: Aerik Fuundremunn

Offense: The Rebels' offense is a balanced one, with reliable running and strong passing, and is quite prolific. Quarterback Gaaruutt Onnursun is an excellent passer, and a credible rushing threat. The running game is powered by a fast runner in Zoey Dannulsun, who's an uncharicteristically fast (non-power-oriented) runningback for a Fanboyist team of any kind. She is backed up by power-runner Maark Waalturs, who often breaks multiple tackles on each run. A big, physical offensive line powers the run game and passing game foward.

Defense: On defense, the Rebels have an excellent linebacking corps, which keeps the defense flexible; the defense is proficient in both run-stopping and pass-protecting. The Rebels' defense is not any better or worse than their offense, but is more along the lines of 'big-play' and turn-over forcing rather than crushing.

Team: Broncos
City: Grimmeberg
Stadium: Kole Field, Grimmeberg
Team Colors: Green and Black
Head Coach: Thomas Stokes

Overview:
The Broncos are the perennial playoff heroes of the Territorial Gridiron Conference; in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 playoffs, they secured third-place "wildcard" berths and managed to go on to win the conference title both years, even managing a National Finals run in 2020, only to be beaten out by the Crimson Tide. The Broncos have a special knack for come-from-behind victories, so much so that it's been joked that if they enter the second half in the lead, the Broncos will lose.

The Broncos are also notable in their utter lack of a single major 'star' player; they have solid athletic talent at most positions, but there's none of the superstars, #1 draft picks, touted recruits, or individual award winners playing on the team. It's largely teamwork and unity, along with that relatively consistant, moderately-high level of physical talent and ability that has allowed them to have the successes they've had.

Offense:
The Broncos lack any offensive fetishes. Quite simply, they can pass fairly well, they can option fairly well, they can screen fairly well, and they can run fairly well. That said, they do it with little of the pizzazz or special success at any of them that other teams manage. They are not a ball-control team, but they don't really have a knack for fast scoring, either. They're basically a middle-of-the-road team in that respect. The closest the offense has to a star is RB Kurt Barron, who was a very good player in college, but who interest in plummeted afterward. The standard formation is the five-man-line, four-reciever front.

Defense:
The Broncos lack a crushing defense. That's mostly because they have a moderately-tight defense with a propensity for playmaking instead, causing turnovers at good times for the offense to pick up again. The Bronco defense also seems to have a special knack for goal-line stands; like the rest of the team, it seems to be at its best with a back to a wall. The Broncos have a multi-front defense, but tend to favor a 3-4 for its flexibility; a linebacker can move upward to play as a lineman, outwards to contain runs, or back to assist the secondary.

Post-Cataclysm

Things have changed dynamically since the Great Cataclysm which shattered the old Fanboyist mainland. Since then, the population and cultural centers have shifted largely to Tyrrhenia and Osteria.

Fanboyist National Gridiron League

The playoffs comprise five rounds, each team playing in every round; no BYE weeks are offered to any team. The best four teams in each region reach the playoffs, meaning 24 teams make the playoffs (out of 48 total teams) each year. First round is the regional final, then the conference final, the national semi-final, followed by the final. Traditionally, the Osterian Gridiron Conference and Territorial Gridiron Conference champions play in the semi-finals, with the Tyrrhenian and Fanboyist Gridiron Conference champions playing each other in the same round. The winner of each game plays in the Federal Bowl, the national championship game. Thus, in addition to an 16-game regular season, means that a team can potentially play up to 22 games. No team has ever managed to go 23-0.

Fanboyist Hockey League (FHL)

The FHL was created from the merger of two leagues: the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Federal Hockey League (FHL). The former teams of the two leagues now make up two distinct conferences. Ice Hockey is only played in Tyrrhenia, not in the Osterian territories.

Inneville - Capitals

East
New Danzig - Knights
Carthago Nova - Peoni

St.Theodore - Saints

South
New Nashville - Coyotes
Stevensburg - Wolverines
Dreichium - Dukes
Meuse - Panzers

Federal Conference

North
Thomasburg - Penguins
New Inneville - Senators
New Copenhagen - Crimson
Daalhulm - Skraelings

Southpoint - Fleet
Stevensburg - Gears

Rivalries

Rivalries run strong in all Fanboyist sports. Hockey and Gridiron Football in particular. The most virulent ones are any that involve cities called "Thomasburg" and "Wilsonville", although the rivalry between Skraeling teams is usually pretty heated. Hell, the rivalry between Skraeling teams and the rest of the country is pretty heated.

Notable Rivalry Match-ups:

(WiTh Rivalry) - Wilsonville Mariners v. Thomasburg Penguins - Rivalry Began: 1899 - Record: 355-355-51, Tied - Last Meeting: Mariners, 3-2 - Widest Score Margin: 7-1, Penguins, 1965 - Highest Scoring Game: 6-6, Tied

(Capital Rivalry) - Inneville Capitals v. Filia Raiders - Rivalry Began: 1941 - Record: 207-132-36, Capitals - Last Meeting: 3-0, Capitals - Widest Score Margin: 12-0 Capitals - Highest Scoring Game: 11-6, Capitals

(Skraelingia Rivalry) Skarrsboro Arctic Tide v. Daalhulm Skraelings - Rivalry Began: 1901 - Record: 172-167-24, Arctic Tide - Last Meeting: 0-0, Tied - Widest Score Margin: 4-1, Skraelings - Highest Scoring Game: 4-4, Tied

(Vienna Rivalry) New Vienna Valkyries v. New Vienna Huskies - Rivalry Began: 1981 - Record: 92-81-14, Huskies - Last Meeting: 2-1, Valkyries - Widest Score Margin: 5-1, Valkyries - Highest Scoring Game: 9-8, Huskies

(The Slug-Out) New Copenhagen Crimson v. St.Theodore Saints - Rivalry Began: 1958 - Record: 48-42-26, Crimson - Last Meeting: 2-2, Tied - Widest Score Margin: 3-1, Saints - Highest Scoring Game: 3-3, Tied

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

League Leaders:

The best teams have often dominated the league. There are few teams that are perennial power-houses, and always have been. Many have their years of glory, then fade back to simply being average. Statistics are based on the 64-game regular season: records do not include playoff records.

Some teams, though, are notable exceptions. Here they are:

New Copenhagen Crimson - Debut Year: 1898 - Overall Record: 6841-643-68 - Conference Championships: 37 - National Championships: 21 - Undefeated Teams: 3 (1902, 1911, 1934) - Hall of Fame Inductees: 107 - Current Coach: Fedor Schroeder (Fifth Season; 255-44-21)

St.Theodore/Vienna Saints - Debut Year: 1901 - Overall Record: 6477-721-162 - Conference Championships: 28 - National Championships: 17 - Undefeated Teams: 1 (1923) - Hall of Fame Inductees: 71 - Current Coach: Stafan Graalsunn (Fourth Season; 183-41-32)

Thomasburg Penguins - Debut Year: 1900 - Overall Record: 5947-1161-316 - Conference Championships: 31 - National Championships: 14 - Undefeated Teams: 1 (1916) - Hall of Fame Inductees: 73 - Current Coach: Archie O'Daniel (Seventh Season; 331-86-31)

2018-2019 Girdball Season (Federal Gridball League)

For the first season, the former FNGL (Fanboyist National Gridiron League) used a new name based off the Sarzonian term for gridiron football "gridball". Also notable was the league's contraction from nearly eighty teams to fewer than fifty. This, combined with a lot of general confusion as contracts were renegotiated and such meant that it was easy for the Antioch Titans to sneak in and win a second Federal Bowl over the Thomasburg Ironmongers in a 27-10 championship victory.

Osterian Gridiron Conference

West:
Oviedo - Lions (15-3)
New Capua - Cardinals (14-4)
Tarraco - Legion (10-8)

Syracuse - Hurricanes (9-9)
Grenada - Moors (7-11)
Barcelona - Seahawks (5-13)

East:
Antioch - Titans (16-2)
Alexandria - Gators (13-5)
Jerusalem - Crusaders (12-6)

Cairo - Mamelukes (7-11)
Damascus - Dragons (6-12)
Tripoli - Pirates (3-15)

There was an unusual amount of parity in the OGC, with the Titans dominating the Eastern Division and the Lions returning to their old place at the top of the Western Division standings. The Titan's strong rushing attack seemed pretty much unchanged from last year, and their passing game had improved some. Their defense remained as tight as ever, though. The Gators managed second in the division, but they weren't particularly noteworthy, playing well, if unspectacularly. The Cardinals' strong air-it-out offense and spread-killer defense kept them in the running, and they managed a few dramatic victories to tie up second place in their division. The Conference bottom qualifiers were the Legion and the Crusaders, two teams that seemed to come out of nowhere in their relatively good finishes; such has not been seen in some time from the Legion, and not ever from the Crusaders.

Tyrrhenian Gridiron Conference:

North
Wilsonville - Monitors (15-3)
Inneville - Capitals (14-4)
Thomasburg - Steelers (12-6)

New Copenhagen - Crimson Tide (11-7)
New Danzig - Knights (6-12)
Skarrsboro - Cataphracts (2-16)

South
Filia - Chargers (17-1)
New Vienna - Huskies (12-6)
New Nashville - Wolverines (11-7)

Leifs' Harbor - Vikings (9-9)
Grimmeberg - Generals (8-10)
St.Theodore - Saints (5-13)

Parity? In the TGC? Sounds unreal, but that's exactly what happened this year. More or less, at least; the Chargers were their usual dominant selves in the South (finishing with the best regular-season record in the league for the year), but the Saints played a lot better than their lackluster record would suggest, the Generals and Vikings were in the running for about half the season, and the Wolverines and Huskies didn't lock up their spots until late. In the North, the Caps surged onto the scene to take up second place behind the powerhouse Monitors. The Crimson Tide (newly relocated to Copenhagen) and the Thomasburg Steelers (parity in Thomasburg? Gasp!) battled it out for the last playoff spot, with the 'Tide falling in the end. The Knights and Cataphracts played better than their records indicate, but it was still a pretty terrible outing for the Cataphracts.

Fanboyist Gridiron Conference

Federal:
New Vienna - Barons (13-5)
Northwatch - Mustangs (12-6)
Thomasburg - Ironmongers (12-6)

Mobilston - Tigers (9-9)
Skarrsboro - Rebels (9-9)
Grimmeberg - Wardogs (1-17)

National:
New Danzig - Conquerors (15-3)
Innsbruck - Ravens (14-4)
Frost Landing - Saxons (10-8)

Carthago Nova - Peoni (7-11)
Dreichium - Comets (3-15)
Vimesburg - Colts (2-16)

In a year full of unexpected parity, there was plenty of it in the Federal Division, and none at all in the National Division. In the Federal, the Barrons managed to scrape together enough of a run to win the division, but it wasn't enough to keep the Mustangs off their backs. Is that the Ironmongers without their usual first or second slot? I do believe it is; the Ironmongers had to battle just to peg the third playoff spot for the division. The Tigers and Rebs had solid, if unspectacular runs, and, well, someone had to absorb the losses; the Wardogs finished with the worst record in the league. The National? The Conquerors and Ravens won it, and the Saxons got the third spot because it had to go to someone; they weren't particularly strong through the year, and managed to get as far as they did by playing weak teams. Hence why they were flattened in the first round of the playoffs. The Peoni were OK, but the Comets and Colts had atrocious outings, even by their low standards.

Territorial Gridiron Conference

Home:
Thomasburg - Boilermakers (14-4)
New Zagreb - Wolfpack (13-5)
Grimmeberg - Broncos (11-7)

Onneria - Honorians (9-9)
Daalhulm - Skraelings (6-12)
New Copenhagen - Arctic Tide (4-14)

Colonial:
Koenigshaaloe - Kings (15-3)
Daalfuurge - Gears (14-4)
Southpoint - Fleet (10-8)

Naakstbaen - Nighthawks (9-9)
Nuurtlund - Normans (5-13)
Oppidium - Fortifiers (2-16)

That's not a typo, folks; the Fleet actually pulled together a winning season. Beyond that, the Kings were unusually dominant in the Colonial Division, with the Gears being solidly strong, as usual. The Nighthawks managed to stay relevant most of the year, as the Normans started iffy and ended bad. We're not even going to talk about the Fortifiers' season. Back home, the relocated Boilermakers managed to win their Division, finishing ahead of Zagreb and Grimmeberg in the playoff slots. The Honorians were solid, and the Arctic Tide and Skraelings weren't bad for division bottom-feeders. There's hope for them, at least.

Playoffs

OGC Playoffs:

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Western Division
Capua Cardinals vs. Tarraco Legion - 24-13 Legion
Oviedo Lions - BYE

Eastern Division
Alexandria Gators vs. Jerusalem Crusaders - 31-21 Gators
Antioch Titans - BYE

Minor upset here; the Legion trumped the Cardinals. It didn't really matter. The Cardinals' defense was flimsy, at best. In the next round, little mattered in the OGC.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Western Division
Oviedo Lions vs. Tarraco Legion - 20-3 Lions

Eastern Division
Antioch Titans vs. Alexandria Gators - 28-0 Titans

As you can see, both top-seeds won. Easily, at that.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Oviedo Lions vs. Antioch Titans - 28-13 Titans

No surprise here, either; the Titans had been dominant all season long. They were dominant now.

TGC Playoffs

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Northern Division
Inneville Capitals vs. Thomasburg Steelers - 45-10 Capitals
Wilsonville Monitors - BYE

Southern Division
Vienna Huskies vs. Nashville Wolverines - 36-31 Huskies
Filia Chargers - BYE

The Steelers had had a marvelous season, but the Caps put an end to it in a blowout win. The Huskies managed to keep the wildcard Wolverines down, but only with a lot of heart and effort.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Northern Division
Wilsonville Monitors vs. Inneville Capitals - 33-6 Monitors

Southern Division
Filia Chargers vs. Vienna Huskies - 26-15 Huskies

The Caps, let's face it, were toast the minute they stepped on the field against the Monitors; the Monitors' rough-and-tumble defense screwed up the Caps' finesse offense without too much problem, and the Caps' already patchy defense allowed the hard-charging Monitors to win easily.

Then came the surprise; the Chargers got knocked off by the Huskies. In a display of composure and a showcase of how far he's come since his days with the Barrons, Dane Zacks conducted the Huskies' offense in a do-or-die situation, putting together a momentum-restoring drive that gave the Huskies the lead in the fourth quarter. Granted, the two-point conversion and field goal that followed put the game away, but the shocker was that drive. Look out people: a new Vienna team may be on its way up.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Wilsonville Monitors vs. Vienna Huskies - 24-21 OT Monitors

The Huskies had a lot of hopes and energy coming into this game after their upset of the leagues' best regular-season team. They nearly pulled off a second upset, too, with more good defense and superb offense allowing them to stay close to the Monitors and to even tie the game at the end of the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the league's new OT rules saw them lose on a Monitors' field goal. But the message is sent; the Huskies can, and will, beat anyone.

FGC Playoffs

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Federal Division
Northwatch Mustangs vs. Thomasburg Ironmongers - 17-15 Ironmongers
Vienna Barrons - BYE

National Division
Innsbruck Ravens vs. Frost Landing Saxons - 32-12 Ravens
Danzig Conquerors - BYE

Granted, they were underdogs in name only, but its still noteworthy to see the Ironmongers return from a lackluster regular season to take out the upstart Mustangs. Poor PJ Faulke and the 'Stangs will just have to wait 'till next year; they might well get it then, given their performance this year. After all, they made the 'Mongers fight for it, and they earned it well. Next year, 'Stangs. Next year.

The Ravens, on the other hand, were on fire and would not be denied. Sorry, Saxons, that's no way to play in the playoffs.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Federal Division
Vienna Barrons vs. Thomasburg Ironmongers - 20-14 Ironmongers

National Division
Danzig Conquerors vs. Innsbruck Ravens - 11-0 Conquerors

Again, in the Federal Division, the game was hardly one of an 'underdog' upsetting a superior team; there had already been plenty of parity, and going into the game, nobody was sure who would come out on top. The fact of the matter is that the 'Mongers came out on top, and won it 20-16 to get to the Conference Final.

The Conquerors' defense clamped down to completely shut down the Ravens. But, again, the Barrons had better look out; their Ostrean supremacy is being challenged.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Thomasburg Ironmongers vs. Danzig Conquerors - 27-10 Ironmongers

The Conquerors came out flat, and it showed; the Ironmongers put them away without any major problems.

TtGC Playoffs

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Home Division
Zagreb Wolfpack vs. Grimmeberg Broncos - 17-10 Broncos
Thomasburg Boilermakers - BYE

Colonial Division
Daalfuurge Gears vs. Southpoint Fleet - 15-3 Gears
Koenigshaaloe Kings - BYE

The Broncos wouldn't be denied, and they managed to pull the upset off on the Wolfpack. It wasn't a huge upset, but still noteworthy.

After an admirable run in the regular season, the Fleet, unfortunately, got flattened by the Gears.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Home Division
Thomasburg Boilermakers vs. Grimmeberg Broncos - 10-8 Broncos

Colonial Division
Koenigshaaloe Kings vs. Daalfuurge Gears - 6-5 Gears

The Broncos again weren't to be denied, with them taking a hard-fought win over another Thomasburg team. They all seem to have gotten better, actually. Maybe the Ironmongers should start looking over their shoulders.

The Gears, on the other hand, managed to stifle the Kings, even though the Kings fought hard. It was an excellent defensive game, actually, and there's promise for the Kings in the future.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Grimmeberg Broncos vs. Daalfuurge Gears - 21-14 Broncos

The Broncos seem to play well with their backs to a wall; how else would they have managed come-from-behind victories in three seperate playoff games in which they were the underdogs? They played well in the clutch situation, and came away with the win after managing to come from a 14-0 defecit at the half to win the game.

League Playoffs

Round Four: National Semi-Final
(OGC) Antioch Titans vs. (TtGC) Grimmeberg Broncos - 26-22 Titans
(TGC) Wilsonville Monitors vs. (FGC) Thomasburg Ironmongers - 23-21 Ironmongers

With their backs to the wall, they pulled it off. No, not the Broncos, the Titans, now. With the Broncos having the late lead of 22-19, the Titans needed a touchdown to win without forcing overtime, and that's exactly what Joe Daniels got for them, breaking a 27-yard run with :21 left in the final quarter to get the score to win the game for the Titans. The Broncos can go home knowing they played well and got as far as anyone could have expected.

Then there was the Slug-Out. My God, that was an amazing game. This is one of those matchups where anything can happen, and the underdog (technically) Ironmongers managed the late rushing attacks to keep themselves in the game and to win the thing for themselves. James McCallum played as well as any back, even being worthy to be mentioned with the all-time greats after this performance, and Stan Marshall, aging as he is (by QB standards) redeemed himself after last year's lackluster finish by leading the offense to its final lead-gaining and victory.

So what was the Championship game?

Round Five: The National Championship "The Federal Bowl"
(OGC) Antioch Titans vs. (FGC) Thomasburg Ironmongers - 27-10 Titans

That was underwhelming. The Titans never even let the Ironmongers lead, much less have much of a shot at winning. Yet that's what championship teams must do; go out and dominate, drama be damned. And in that sense, as well as because of the class they showed during and after the game, the Titans are as worthy of the title of National Champion as anyone has ever been. Joe Daniels had a two-touchdown, 200 yard performance, which got him MVP honors again.

2019-2020 Girdball Season (Federal Gridball League)

For the second season since the renaming of the league, Fanboyist gridball returned. The league's contraction from nearly eighty teams to fewer than fifty the previous year was finalized. With contracts and such finalized once more, the stage was set for a dormant program to return to the fore; the moved Crimson Tide, (from Mobilston to Copenhagen) surged to the forefront, winning the National Championship.

Osterian Gridiron Conference

West:
Oviedo - Lions (16-2)
Capua - Cardinals (13-5)
Syracuse - Hurricanes (10-8)

Tarraco - Legion (7-11)
Barcelona - Seahawks (5-13)
Grenada - Moors (2-16)

East:
Antioch - Titans (16-2)
Alexandria - Gators (12-6)
Damascus - Dragons (10-8)

Cairo - Mamelukes (9-9)
Jerusalem - Crusaders (5-13)
Tripoli - Pirates (3-15)

Parity? That's so last year. This year the Lions and Titans completely dominated, with the Gators and Dragons, along with the Cardinals and Hurricanes picking up the other spots because someone had to, and they didn't do too badly.

Tyrrhenian Gridiron Conference:

North
Wilsonville - Monitors (13-5)
Copenhagen - Crimson Tide (13-5)
Inneville - Capitals (12-6)

Thomasburg - Steelers (10-8)
New Danzig - Knights (7-11)
Skarrsboro - Cataphracts (5-13)

South
Filia - Chargers (16-2)
Vienna - Huskies (13-5)
St.Theodore - Saints (10-8)

Nashville - Wolverines (9-9)
Leifs' Harbor - Vikings (7-11)
Grimmeberg - Generals (4-14)

Chargers buttfu-- won the South. As usual. Two teams from Vienna/St. Theodore got to the playoffs; the Huskies (who are on the way up) and the Saints (who havn't had a winning season in God knows how long). The Wolverines played well, but not well enough, and the Vikings and Generals met similar fates; not being quite good enough to stay onto the playoffs. In the north, the Crimson Tide reestablished itself in its new home, and secured a playoff berth alongside the Capitals and Monitors. The Steelers fell just short of a playoff berth, despite having a winning record.

Fanboyist Gridiron Conference

Federal:
Vienna - Barons (12-6)
Northwatch - Mustangs (12-6)
Thomasburg - Ironmongers (12-6)

Mobilston - Tigers (9-9)
Skarrsboro - Rebels (9-9)
Grimmeberg - Wardogs (6-12)

National:
Danzig - Conquerors (14-4)
Innsbruck - Ravens (14-4)
Carthago Nova - Peoni (12-6)

Frost Landing - Saxons (9-9)
Starhemmburg - Comets (5-13)
Vimesburg - Colts (4-14)

In the Federal Division? Parity expanded; all the playoff-bound teams had 12-6 records. They had a three-way tie between them. Point differential had to be used for the final standings there. Even the three that didn't make the playoffs had decent showings: two teams at .500 and one at .333. In the National, things were more even than last year, but not by too much. The Colts and Comets were still abysmal, the Saxons missed the playoffs, and the Peoni, Ravens, and Conquerors managed winning records and berths.

Territorial Gridiron Conference

Home:
Thomasburg - Boilermakers (13-5)
Onneria - Honorians (12-6)
Grimmeberg - Broncos (12-6)

Zagreb - Wolfpack (9-9)
Copenhagen - Arctic Tide (7-11)
Daalhulm - Skraelings (3-15)

Colonial:
Koenigshaaloe - Kings (16-2)
Daalfuurge - Gears (15-3)
Southpoint - Fleet (14-4)

Naakstbaen - Nighthawks (9-9)
Nuurtlund - Normans (3-15)
Oppidium - Fortifiers (2-16)

That's not a typo, folks; the Fleet actually pulled together another winning season. Beyond that, the Kings were unusually dominant in the Colonial Division for a second year, with the Gears being solidly strong, as usual. The Nighthawks managed to stay relevant most of the year. We're not even going to talk about the Fortifiers' or Normans' season. Back home, the relocated Boilermakers managed to win their Division, finishing ahead of Onneria and Grimmeberg in the playoff slots. The Honorians were solid, so they made it, and the Arctic Tide and Skraelings weren't bad. There's hope for them, at least.

Playoffs

OGC Playoffs:

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Western Division
Capua Cardinals vs. Syracuse Hurricanes - 17-14 Hurricanes
Oviedo Lions - BYE

Eastern Division
Alexandria Gators vs. Damascus Dragons - 28-3 Dragons
Antioch Titans - BYE

Both games here were upsets; the Dragons knocked out the Gators, and the 'Canes edged out the Cardinals. Good game in the West, blowout in the East.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Western Division
Oviedo Lions vs. Syracuse Hurricanes - 27-20 OT Hurricanes

Eastern Division
Antioch Titans vs. Damascus Dragons - 21-13 Titans

The Lions managed to fall in OT to the 'Canes, who managed the upset last round as well. The Dragons turned out to be no match for the Titans, though.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Antioch Titans vs. Syracuse Hurricanes - 16-10 OT Hurricanes

What's this?! The Titans not going to the National Playoffs? Unheard of, in almost ten years. Yet, the Hurricanes battled hard enough throughout the Conference playoffs to come away with the OGC title.

TGC Playoffs

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Northern Division
Copenhagen Crimson Tide vs. Inneville Capitals - 35-0 Crimson Tide
Wilsonville Monitors - BYE

Southern Division
Vienna Huskies vs. St. Theodore Saints - 38-34 Huskies
Filia Chargers - BYE

We havn't seen this kind of dominating performance from the Crimson Tide in years. Maybe the move was a good thing.

The Huskies and Saint's shooting match turned out to be interesting, and the Huskies came out on top. Must have been an interesting week in Vienna/St. Theodore.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Northern Division
Wilsonville Monitors vs. Copenhagen Crimson Tide - 29-17 Crimson Tide

Southern Division
Filia Chargers vs. Vienna Huskies - 34-28 Huskies

For a second year in a row, the Chargers got the top seed in their region, and they managed to choke in their first playoff game. The Huskies managed to bring them down in a solid shooting match. The Chargers need to figure out what to do about their choking problem.

On the other hand, the Crimson Tide flat out smashed the Monitors, in the first such occurance in years. I think its safe to say that the 'Tide's back.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Copenhagen Crimson Tide vs. Vienna Huskies - 38-21 Crimson Tide

Yeah, they're definitely back; the Tide managed to stop the offensive powerhouse, then beat them at their own game. The run-by-committee approach and the new QB (Derrik Flack for MVP, anyone?) are doing wonders for them, apparently.

FGC Playoffs

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Federal Division
Northwatch Mustangs vs. Thomasburg Ironmongers - 43-14 Mustangs
Vienna Barrons - BYE

National Division
Innsbruck Ravens vs. Carthago Nova Peoni - 21-3 Ravens
Danzig Conquerors - BYE

The 'Stangs got their way this year. The Ironmongers clearly weren't ready for another shot at the title.

At the same time, the Ravens proved another opponent to not be up to scratch, blowing out the Peoni.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Federal Division
Vienna Barrons vs. Northwatch Mustangs - 31-30 Mustangs

National Division
Danzig Conquerors vs. Innsbruck Ravens - 28-17 Ravens

The 'Stangs did it; they made it to the Conference Final for the first time in franchise history by winning a nail-biter over the Barrons, 31-30. The Conquerors, on the other hand, couldn't keep up with the Ravens.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Northwatch Mustangs vs. Innsbruck Ravens - 36-21 Mustangs

The Mustangs advanced to the National Semi-Finals for the first time in franchise history after a 478-yard, five-touchdown effort by QB PJ Faulke to trump the blazing Ravens. Good luck Mustangs!

TtGC Playoffs

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Home Division
Onneria Honorians vs. Grimmeberg Broncos - 24-21 Broncos
Thomasburg Boilermakers - BYE

Colonial Division
Daalfuurge Gears vs. Southpoint Fleet - 14-7 Fleet
Koenigshaaloe Kings - BYE

After last year, did you really think the Broncos would go down without a fight? The real surprise was that the Fleet trumped the Gears. Meaning? The Fleet has its first playoff victory in franchise history. Congratulations!

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Home Division
Thomasburg Boilermakers vs. Grimmeberg Broncos - 21-17 Broncos

Colonial Division
Koenigshaaloe Kings vs. Southpoint Fleet - 31-10 Kings

And with that, the Fleet's playoff run ends. Good try. Maybe you'll be able to pull it off next year. And Thomasburg...you should really know better than to let the Broncos be down by nine at the half. That's just asking for an ass-kicking. Which, incidentally, they delivered.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Grimmeberg Broncos vs. Koenigshaaloe Kings - 22-20 Broncos

They pulled it off again. On fire and with their backs to a wall, the Buckin' Broncos could do no wrong, and managed to squeak by and come away from a game with the Kings as the Conference Champions.

League Playoffs

Round Four: National Semi-Final
(OGC) Syracuse Hurricanes vs. (TtGC) Grimmeberg Broncos - 13-9 Broncos
(TGC) Copenhagen Crimson Tide vs. (FGC) Northwatch Mustangs - 24-18 Crimson Tide

The Tide pulled off the win despite a good challenge from the Mustangs, letting them into the finals for the first time in quite a while. Meanwhile, the Broncos pulled off another comeback to win the day and get into the finals for the first time in franchise history.

Round Five: The National Championship "The Federal Bowl"
(TtGC) Grimmeberg Broncos vs. (TGC) Copenhagen Crimson Tide - 22-17 Crimson Tide

No comeback this time; the Broncos should know better, by now, than to let an opponent surrender the lead before the half. The 'Tide did exactly that, and roared back with a vengence, 'rolling' down the field in a manner not seen in years--no, decades. They managed to transform a one score defecit into a one-score win for their first title in quite a while.

2020-2021 Girdball Season (Federal Gridball League)

Another good year, this one saw the final ascendence of a few programs that had been strong contenders, but had yet to win a title: the Northwatch Mustangs and the Grimmeberg Broncos.

Osterian Gridiron Conference

West:
Oviedo - Lions (15-3)
Capua - Cardinals (13-5)
Syracuse - Hurricanes (11-7)

Tarraco - Legion (6-12)
Barcelona - Seahawks (4-14)
Grenada - Moors (4-14)

East:
Antioch - Titans (14-4)
Damascus - Dragons (13-5)
Cairo - Mamelukes (11-7)

Jerusalem - Crusaders (9-9)
Alexandria - Gators (6-12)
Tripoli - Pirates (5-13)

Parity returned, somewhat; the Titans and Lions failed to actually dominate the conference, instead simply winning their respective divisions, but taking notable losses in the process. It was a much more closely-fought thing. The standings in the East were shaken up a bit from last year, but the West stayed the same.

Tyrrhenian Gridiron Conference:

North
Wilsonville - Monitors (12-6)
Copenhagen - Crimson Tide (12-6)
Inneville - Capitals (12-6)

Skarrsboro - Cataphracts (10-8)
New Danzig - Knights (8-10)
Thomasburg - Steelers (6-12)

South
Filia - Chargers (13-5)
Vienna - Huskies (11-7)
St.Theodore - Saints (11-7)

Nashville - Wolverines (10-8)
Leifs' Harbor - Vikings (7-11)
Grimmeberg - Generals (5-13)

The Charger's record was much more in line with their recent playoff performance, managing a strong, but not dominating, 13-5 finish in the regular season to win the Southern division. The Huskies and Saints tied for second.

In the North, the Steelers were the worst of a good lot; even as the divisional bottom-feeder, they managed a 6-12 record, which is nothing to shake a stick at when placing dead last in the division, and second-last in the conference. The three group winners were almost completely tied; score differential seperated the Monitors, but the Crimson Tide and Capitals had to go down to point-differential against one another, as they had the same overall point differential.

Fanboyist Gridiron Conference

Federal:
Thomasburg - Ironmongers (12-6)
Northwatch - Mustangs (11-7)
Vienna - Barrons (10-8)

Mobilston - Tigers (9-9)
Skarrsboro - Rebels (9-9)
Grimmeberg - Wardogs (7-11)

National:
Danzig - Conquerors (13-5)
Innsbruck - Ravens (13-5)
Carthago Nova - Peoni (11-7)

Frost Landing - Saxons (9-9)
Vimesburg Colts (6-12)
Starhemmburg - Comets (3-15)

With the way this year turned out in many of the conferences, it wouldn't be surprising to see parity become a way of life in this league; the Conquerors dropped to be even with the Ravens, overall, and the Peoni held steady, with gains made by the Colts.

In the Federal Division, the Barrons dropped to third place, while the Ironmongers took a close first place with the Mustangs close behind in second. Two teams in the division managed .500 records, and the remaining one wasn't far below.

Territorial Gridiron Conference

Home:
Onneria - Honorians (12-6)
Thomasburg - Boilermakers (12-6)
Grimmeberg - Broncos (12-6)

Zagreb - Wolfpack (9-9)
Copenhagen - Arctic Tide (7-11)
Daalhulm - Skraelings (4-14)

Colonial:
Koenigshaaloe - Kings (14-4)
Daalfuurge - Gears (14-4)
Southpoint - Fleet (10-8)

Naakstbaen - Nighthawks (9-9)
Nuurtlund - Normans (4-14)
Oppidium - Fortifiers (3-15)

The Broncos, Boilermakers, and Honorians found themselves in an increasingly-common three-way tie for the Division Crown. The Wolfpack narrowly missed the playoffs, and the Arctic Tide made a solid showing, while the Skraelings didn't do too poorly.

The Kings and Gears tied for the Colonial division crown, and the Fleet slipped, even though they still secured a playoff berth. The Nighthawks did decently, and the Normans and Fortifiers weren't as bad as they usually are.

Playoffs

OGC Playoffs:

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Western Division
Capua Cardinals (13-5) vs. Syracuse Hurricanes (11-7) - 21-6 Cardinals
Oviedo Lions (15-3) - BYE

Eastern Division
Damascus Dragons (13-5) vs. Cairo Mamelukes (11-7) - 14-10 Mamelukes
Antioch Titans (14-4) - BYE

The Cards finally managed to survive the first round of the playoffs by embarassing the 'Canes defense to the tune of three touchdowns, while only allowing two field goals in reply. the Mamelukes managed an upset against the Dragons, winning on a late touchdown.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Western Division
Oviedo Lions (15-3) vs. Capua Cardinals (13-5) - 31-27 Cardinals

Eastern Division
Antioch Titans (14-4) vs. Cairo Mamelukes (11-7) - 11-7 Mamelukes

The Lions were shot down by the Cardinals in a high-scoring game, while the Mamelukes upset the Titans in a classic defensive struggle.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Capua Cardinals (13-5) vs. Cairo Mamelukes (11-7) - 17-9 Cardinals

The Cardinals managed to out-shoot the Mamelukes, ending a good run by the erstwhile Cairoers. The Cardinals' QB Gian Vespuccio managed to throw for 1000 yards in the three playoff games in the Cardinals' run to the Conference Championship.

TGC Playoffs

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Northern Division
Copenhagen Crimson Tide (12-6) vs. Inneville Capitals (12-6) - 22-14 Crimson Tide
Wilsonville Monitors (12-6) - BYE

Southern Division
Vienna Huskies (11-7) vs. St. Theodore Saints (11-7) - 27-21 OT Huskies
Filia Chargers (13-5) - BYE

The Crimson Tide won again handily, even if it proved to be more of a fight, coming down to a pick-six in the end to secure victory for certain.

The Vienna shoot-out, ended as expected, with the Huskies once again making their case for metropolitan superiority after a narrow win over the Saints after Dane Zacks threw a TD in OT to win it for the Huskies.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Northern Division
Wilsonville Monitors (12-6) vs. Copenhagen Crimson Tide (12-6) - 20-12 Crimson Tide

Southern Division
Filia Chargers (13-5) vs. Vienna Huskies (11-7) - 19-14 Chargers

The Crimson Tide managed a win that looked anything but certain until the fourth quarter, when they widened their lead with a safety. The Chargers, for their part, finally managed to avoid choking in their first playoff game of the year, managing a close 19-14 victory over the Huskies in battle of quarterbacks.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Copenhagen Crimson Tide (12-6) vs. Filia Chargers (13-5) - 24-21 Chargers

Dispelling their six-year playoff curse emphatically, the Chargers pulled off the win here on a late field goal to make their way to the National Playoff for the first time in half a decade. Joe Anderson's superb passing effort paved the way for the win.

FGC Playoffs

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Federal Division
Northwatch Mustangs (11-7) vs. Vienna Barrons (10-8) - 38-17 Mustangs
Thomasburg Ironmongers (12-6) - BYE

National Division
Innsbruck Ravens (13-5) vs. Carthago Nova Peoni (11-7) - 24-23 Ravens
Danzig Conquerors (13-5) - BYE

The Mustangs gunned down the Barrons with few problems; it's almost scary how accurate, how calm, how skilled and dextrous as a signal-caller PJ Faulke has become. The Ravens managed a last-minute field-goal to knock out the Peoni, arguably the closest non-loss game they've had in the last few years.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Federal Division
Thomasburg Ironmongers (12-6) vs. Northwatch Mustangs (11-7) - 28-17 Mustangs

National Division
Danzig Conquerors (13-5) vs. Innsbruck Ravens (13-5) - 10-3 Conquerors

The Mustangs are the real deal: after making short work of the Barrons in the first round, they dispatched the Ironmongers with equal ease as PJ Faulke began gunning for the record books.

The Conquerors, for once, squelched the Ravens' claims that they were the best in Ostrea Nova by stomping them thoroughly. The fired-up Conqueror defense humiliated the Ravens' offense, intercepting three passes and scooping up two more fumbles.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Northwatch Mustangs (11-7) vs. Danzig Conquerors (13-5) - 25-3 Mustangs

This was just frightening; the 'Stangs completely humiliated the Conqueror's normally staunch defense, with PJ Faulke generating 341 yards and three touchdowns en route to a second straight conference championship.

TtGC Playoffs

Round One: Divisional Semi-Finals

Home Division
Thomasburg Boilermakers (12-6) vs. Grimmeberg Broncos (12-6) - 17-14 Broncos
Onneria Honorians (12-6) - BYE

Colonial Division
Daalfuurge Gears (14-4) vs. Southpoint Fleet (10-8) - 5-3 Gears
Koenigshaaloe Kings (14-4) - BYE

The Broncos repeated their late-game playoff heroics from the last two years against the Boilermakers, coming from a 14-point defecit to win in the fourth quarter.

The Gears put an end to the Fleet's newly revitalized hopes this year, after the Fleet had another abnormally strong good season. They may well be here to stay.

Round Two: Divisional Finals

Home Division
Onneria Honorians (12-6) vs. Grimmeberg Broncos (12-6) - 35-3 Broncos

Colonial Division
Koenigshaaloe Kings (14-4) vs. Daalfurge Gears (14-4) - 26-14 Kings

The Kings managed to advance against the Gears, 26-14 behind a strong rushing effort.

The Home Divisional Final was just weird. The Broncos never trailed, and they blew out the Honorians, 35-3. Bizzarre.

Round Three: Conference Championship
Grimmeberg Broncos (12-6) vs. Koenigshaaloe Kings (14-4) - 21-7 Broncos

In spite of trailing at the end of the first quarter, the Broncos pulled off the upset by thoroughly embarrassing the King's normally good defense. A two-score win indeed.

League Playoffs

Round Four: National Semi-Final
(OGC) Capua Cardinals (13-5) vs. (TtGC) Grimmeberg Broncos (12-6) - 38-27 Broncos
(TGC) Filia Chargers (13-5) vs. (FGC) Northwatch Mustangs (11-7) - 31-29 Mustangs

The Cardinals made the fatal mistake of leading the Broncos at the half. At that point, they were just begging to lose to the perennial comeback kids, which, of course, they did, as the Broncos rallied from an 18 point defecit to win, 38-27. This 'come-from-behind' thing is getting sort of ridiculous.

The Chargers played a good game. Really, they did. But it wasn't enough for Joe Anderson and the Chargers to escape being brought down by the shocking PJ Faulke and his young team of northerners. The 'Stangs pulled off the upset by two points.

Round Five: The National Championship "The Federal Bowl"
(TtGC) Grimmeberg Broncos (12-6) vs. (FGC) Northwatch Mustangs (11-7) - 37-34 OT Broncos

The outcome of this one was impossible to predict; really, what do you get when the surprising, resiliant, weekly end-game heroes playing against the plucky, surprising, blazing kids?

An amazing game. And one of the best, most consummate comebacks ever.

The game started with the Mustangs receiving the ball. They marched down the field, and, through four minutes of play, watched as PJ Faulke tossed up a touchdown in the endzone. The PAT was one-and-done. 7-0, Mustangs.

The Broncos' offense took to the field, and began their drive. Kurt Barron took the ball down the field, far, with Tyrr Holmstrom picking up the slack, until Holmstrom was hit as he threw. The resulting pass was intercepted. The 'Stangs got the ball back on their own 14-yard line. PJ Faulke took the field again. Expertly guided the team down the field. By early in the second quarter, he had handed it off to Willy Marsh, who charged it in on a 3-yard run. PAT made. 14-0, Mustangs.

Then Bronco heroics kicked in. Tyrr Holmstrom, on taking the snap on the next drive at the Bronco's 21-yard line, tossed up a 25-yarder. Then he followed it up with a 32-yarder. Then a 22-yarder, to score. PAT made. 14-7, Stangs still in the lead.

The Stangs got the ball back. Marched down the field quickly, reaching the Northwatch 2-yard line with six minutes left in the half. Faulke dropped back as he had done numerous times before. Wound up, threw.

But instead of Kaylee Barron coming down with it, Steve Darkhorse did, instead. Picking up a block from one of the Bronco's defensive hog-mollies, he managed to break clear past the Mustangs' confused offense, allowing him to run down the field, whooping and hollering. Touchdown, Broncos. PAT made easily. 14-14, Tied.

The Mustangs got the ball back, and, again doing so expertly, and quickly, Faulke led them down the field, including with a 54-yard pass to Kaylee Barron. But then, at the Northwatch three-yard-line, another big play. Well, set of plays, really.

First, a sack by Daniel Pike. Then a tackle for loss by Waalt Maarks. Then a third sack by Andicek. The Mustangs were forced to settle for a field goal with two minutes left in the half. 17-14, Mustangs.

Starting from their own 18-yard line, Holmstrom handed the ball off to Kurt Barron, with the Broncos content to let time expire on the half; after all, they'd get the ball back in the next half.

But instead, Barron saw an opening, saw green grass through the churning melee at the line, and broke free, rushing down the field, home free for the touchdown. The Broncos had the lead, 21-17.

The Mustangs were unable to score again in the half, having to simply run out the clock instead.

When the second half opened, the Broncos looked to increase their recently-won lead.

Instead, they got ground to a screeching halt, being forced to punt off their own 48-yard line.

So Faulke lead the way for the Mustang's offense when they picked up the ball at their own 31-yard line.

This time, with Marsh doing a lot of the moving and Faulke picking up the slack and showing leadership, the Mustangs made it down the field, and the crowd watched as the 'Stangs regained the lead off a Faulke-Holmes completion. The PAT made. 24-21, Mustangs.

The Mustangs then did what might have struck some as completely illogical: they attempted an on-side kick. The bounce was perfect, though, and they were successful in recovering it, giving them the ball back on their own 32.

Another fast drive down the field. This time, Willy Marsh broke a 6-yard run for the touchdown. PAT made. 31-21, Mustangs.

The Broncos' offense took the field, and they worked their way down the field steadily. This time, Kurt Barron found the endzone on a five-yard run. The PAT, though, was blocked. 31-27, Mustangs still in the lead.

The Mustangs took the ball down the field once again, sputtering this time as the Northwatch defense fought for each yard it surrendured. They were eventually ground to a halt at the Northwatch 24-yard line, where they kicked a field goal. 34-27, Mustangs holding the lead with the fourth quarter half-finished.

The Broncos retook the field now, and prepared to try and complete their comeback.

They never even got out of their territory. Kurt Barron was struck and the ball was jarred loose, giving the Mustangs the ball back on the Northwatch 24-yard line. It looked like the Broncos were finished.

The next play, though, turned into a sack by Dane Andicek and Danny Pike. Then the next play was a tackle-for-loss by Jake Rush, and the third play was a swatted pass by Eric Hartley. The Mustangs prepared to try and widen their lead by three instead.

What happened instead, though, was that Dane Andicek broke through the line and took the ball in the chest, landing on it while holding onto it. Turnover, Broncos' ball.

With two minutes left, the Broncos moved the ball down the field quickly, utilizing their hurry-up offense, with Tyrr Holmstrom dumping the ball into the endzone to Ferrus Moran, with the PAT tying the game up. 34-34, tied with 12 seconds left in the game.

The 'Stangs realized trying to win the game outside of OT would probably backfire, so Faulke took a knee on their first play with the ball back to run the clock out on regulation.

The Mustangs' offense took the field first in OT. They attempted a few plays, but failed to get to the endzone. Instead, they attempted one final field goal to end the game.

Only it was a trick play, a fake kick that turned into a pass at the Bronco 12-yard line.

Luckily, Steven Darkhorse was lying in wait. He picked off the pass and took a knee in the endzone. Touchback.

The Broncos offense took to the field for the last time that year. First down---three-yard run. Second down---two-yard loss. Third down---two-yard gain.

That left it at fourth down on the Bronco 23 yard line. So they ran one more play. If this didn't work, it was all over.

One last "Hail Mary" pass. Supposedly.

What it actually was was a quick dump-off to Kurt Barron. He rushed twelve yards up the field. Got hit. Tossed the ball over his shoulder. Caught by Pete Donner. Ran another dozen yards or so. Hit. Over the shoulder. Caught by Danny Stoeber. Another handful of yards. Hit. Over the shoulder. Caught by Holmstrom. Another couple of yards. Hit. Over the shoulder. To Ferrus Morran. Another dozen yards. Hit, over the shoulder. Now it was in Louise Ryan's possession. Almost to the goal-line. Hit. Over the shoulder.

Caught. No more receivers to get it. Instead, left tackle Joe Howe caught it, and rumbled foward, stumbled, and landed on the ground. Touchdown.

The Grimmeberg Broncos had won the Federal Bowl. Their first national championship, ever.

Allamunnic Professional Gridiron Association
Division AA

The AA Leagues in Allamunnic gridiron are generally regarded (and used) as a series of development leagues for prospects for the Division A teams. The AA Division has four major leagues in it, the Northern Gridiron League (NGL), the Skraelingian Gridiron League (SGL), the Meuse Basin Gridiron League (MBGL), and the Eastern Gridiron League (EGL). Each team plays a minimum of nine games (there are ten teams (at least) in each league), followed by a League playoff, then followed by a national championship playoff of the top two teams from each league.

Northern Gridiron League (NGL)

The NGL is the oldest of the AA leagues, having its roots in the still-older Stalhamark-Ostrean Gridiron League. It is also, at the present time, the largest and most competetive. The league encompasses the states of Stalhamark, Ostrea, Haartlund, Tyrrslund, Northwatch and western Fililund. There are two conferences: the Northern Conference and the Southern Conference.

Northern Conference
Dunnmaar Destroyers
Burdurrton Thunder
Copenhagen Raiders
Daalfuurge Foundrymen
Zagreb Maulers
Kohlenburg Poets

Southern Conference
St. Theodore Silver
Nocksburg Cavaliers
Grimmeberg Hunters
Leif's Harbor Rivermen
Rone Otters
Thomasburg Coalmen

Skraeling Gridiron League (SGL)

The SGL is the second-oldest of the AA Leagues, and is a bit smaller than the NGL; it has no conference division, but has eight teams overall. However, it is also the second-most competetive; in the thirty years that DAA has existed, eight of the national champions have come from the SGL. The League encompasses all of Skraelingia.

Rumunaeca Wurfyturs
Onneria Line
Wilsonville Packers
Duhulm Pioneers
Skarrsboro Mastodons
Thurraea Gunners
Frayahulm Boars
Udunhulm Sliepnurs

Meuse Basin Gridiron League (MBGL)

The MBGL is the newest of the four leagues, and is also the second-smallest, and arguably the least-competetive; the league has failed to produce a single national champion, and only two national finalists. The league encompasses Piikslund and Nunluwur. The league features only seven teams.

Greensburg Copperheads
Dreichium Dukes
Meuse Screamin' Eagles
Mobilston Shippers
Derrick Phantoms
Belisarpolis Generals
Southpoint Prospectors

Eastern Gridiron League (EGL)

The EGL is the second-newest league, and is the smallest with six teams. It is also noted as a middling league, with moderate successes. It encompasses Valia and Fililund.

Filia Falcons
Inneville Senators
New Inneville Autos
Starhemmburg Stars

"The plans and schemes of tyrants are broken by many things. They shatter against cliffs of heroic struggle. They rupture on reefs of open resistance. And they are slowly eroded, bit by little bit, on the very beaches where they measure triumph, by countless grains of sand. By the stubborn little decencies of humble little men." -Eric Flint, Belisarius II: In The Heart of Darkness
