Smart City in Your Nation

City Name: Cacaphractus, the Machine City
Nation: The Infernum

Population (766 AF): Unknown
Employment (766 AF): Unknown

Mayor: Cacaphractus

Brief Description and Status of Project (optional): Cacaphractus was a sort of smart city designed by the demon Astyanath and the fallen angel Azazel during the era when the First Fallen ruled over the Infernum. It was given an A.I. brain to oversee production and development of clockwork, mechanical, and robotic devices and soldiers, with the added intention of the city-factory itself growing into a device that could torture God Himself (though this detail is unknown any today save Azazel who is no longer in the Infernum). Unfortunately, the intelligence went rogue, capturing it's demonic inhabitants and replacing their brains with mechanical devices to create more servants. The angels investigated the city, attempting to see if it could be brought back under their control, though this proved unsuccessful, and the were overthrown by the demons not a decade later, preventing any further angelic attempts.

Today, the reigning demons have set up a perimeter around the rogue city, with high-powered artillery aimed at the city. Attempts have been made to reclaim it by the demons, though they have all been repelled by the city's defenses, creating a sort of stalemate. Though presently the rise of the Free City Heresy and the revolt of the of Dis has led to forces being drawn away from Cacaphractus' surroundings leaving the machine city largely unwatched, allowing it to expand it's area of direct control for the first time in centuries.

The Machine City's relationship with the rest of Hell isn't entirely hostile though. Via it's robots and clockwork-brain demon servants it does interact with the Infernum, trading it's mechanical devices in exchange for iliaster and raw resources. However the city is also known to create spies and agents of captured demons, sending them out to the rest of hell for purposes only known to itself.

TV Host (Emma Graham): Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to our special segment on smart cities. I'm Emma Graham, your host for tonight's show. Joining me is Dr. Luis von Frompoort, a senior researcher for modern infrastructure at Calmbridge University. Welcome, Dr. von Frompoort.

Dr. Luis von Frompoort: Thank you, Emma. It's a pleasure to be here.

Emma Graham: Tonight, we have two smart cities in focus: Workman's Park from Golyna and Lukas from Saltbridge. Let's dive right in with some frequently asked questions about these innovative urban developments. Dr. von Frompoort, can you shed some light on the key features and objectives of these smart cities?

Dr. Luis von Frompoort: Absolutely, Emma. Both Workman's Park and Lukas have distinct characteristics and goals. Workman's Park, located in Golyna, was designed as a walkable Transit Oriented Development (TOD) with a focus on affordable housing and promoting a healthy lifestyle. It aims to integrate nature into the urban fabric, emphasizing the well-being of its residents. On the other hand, Lukas in Saltbridge is a planned city project that emphasizes connectivity and sustainability. It incorporates advanced transportation systems, smart infrastructure, and renewable energy sources to create an efficient and eco-friendly environment.

Emma Graham: Fascinating! It seems that both cities have their unique approaches. Speaking of transportation, what are the notable transportation systems implemented in these smart cities?

Dr. Luis von Frompoort: In Workman's Park, they have a metro transit system, electric buses, and a well-connected metro network. Lukas, on the other hand, has two metro transit systems, Lukas Metro and Lukas Speedo, operating underground. Additionally, Lukas City Transport Agency (LUCTA) provides electric buses for public transportation. These transportation systems play a vital role in reducing congestion, promoting sustainability, and enhancing mobility within the cities.

Emma Graham: That's impressive! Now, let's talk about communication infrastructure. What are the communication facilities available in these smart cities?

Dr. Luis von Frompoort: Both cities have a range of communication facilities. In Workman's Park, they have TV stations, radio stations, and daily newspapers to keep residents informed. Lukas, on the other hand, offers TV stations, including free-to-air and subscription-based providers, a government-owned radio station called Lukas-FM, and three free daily newspapers available online. These communication platforms ensure the effective dissemination of information and promote connectivity among the residents.

Emma Graham: Regarding the healthcare industry, which medical amenities are accessible in these intelligent cities?

Dr. Luis von Frompoort: Workman's Park features a government hospital and a private plastic surgery center to cater to the healthcare needs of its residents. In Lukas, they have Lukas Central Hospital as a government healthcare facility, along with private specialized treatment centers such as Prime-Care Center, Montkillen Specialist Hospital, and Brooke-Manhurst Kidney Institute. These medical facilities ensure that residents have access to quality healthcare services within close proximity.

Emma Graham: Education is a crucial aspect of any city. What educational facilities are present in these smart cities?

Dr. Luis von Frompoort: Workman's Park offers schools for primary and secondary education. Lukas City, on the other hand, has a broader educational landscape, including schools, two technical colleges, two multi-discipline education colleges, and a science college. These educational institutions provide a well-rounded learning environment and contribute to the overall development of the residents.

Emma Graham: The emphasis on education in these intelligent cities is admirable. Could you speak to me about any specialized research centers or innovation centers located within these cities?

Dr. Luis von Frompoort: Yes, indeed. Workman's Park features a Science Park and an R&D Center to foster research and innovation. In Lukas, they have a comprehensive Lukas Science Park Complex, three R&D dedicated precincts known as Discovery, Pioneer, and Achievement Precinct, and two Innovation Hub complexes named InnoCom One and InnoCom Two. These research facilities and innovation hubs serve as catalysts for technological advancements and promote collaboration between academia and industry.

Emma Graham: Excellent! Now, let's shift our focus to the concept of smart cities. What smart city initiatives have been implemented in these cities to enhance sustainability and efficiency?

Dr. Luis von Frompoort: Both cities have embraced several smart city initiatives. In Workman's Park, they have implemented smart-traffic management systems, integrated public safety measures, smart pollution and environmental control, and smart waste management solutions. Lukas, on the other hand, has a comprehensive range of initiatives, including smart city lighting, smart parking optimization, and an Internet of Things (IoT) enabled network. These initiatives leverage technology to optimize resource utilization, enhance safety, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.

Emma Graham: Impressive! Finally, let's touch upon the power grids in these smart cities. What renewable energy sources are being utilized?

Dr. Luis von Frompoort: Both cities recognize the importance of sustainable energy. Workman's Park incorporates offshore wind farms and solar farms into its power grid, along with a waste-to-energy facility. Lukas also utilizes offshore wind farms, solar farms, and waste-to-energy facilities to generate clean and renewable energy. These renewable energy sources contribute to reducing carbon emissions and promote a greener environment.

Emma Graham: Thank you, Dr. Luis von Frompoort, for providing us with valuable insights into these smart cities. It's truly fascinating to see the integration of technology, sustainability, and quality of life in their development. Unfortunately, that's all the time we have for tonight. Thank you, everyone, for joining us. Stay tuned for more exciting discussions on our future episodes. Good night!

Dr. Luis von Frompoort: Thank you, Emma. It was a pleasure being here. Good night, everyone!

Ardchu is a fun country to enjoy nature in, but also you can be murdered on the street by police or by the native wildlife, who are citizens here. And yes, we can talk with them and they can talk with us. They are equal citizens of this country, and we are disgusted by speciesism. They are canonically as smart as humans and can think for themselves, and many of them have run the country. National language is Ardchuan, but it's mandatory to learn at least one other nature language in school.

please check these out as well, I feel like it could be a cool thing to do:

Smart City in Your Nation

City Name:Marquette, Superior
Nation: United States of Champlania.

Population (2020): 25,459
Employment (2020): 87% Employment Rate. (22,149)

Mayor: Gallamine Birkin's.

Brief Description and Status of Project (optional): It all really started back in the 1960's when the State of Superior, wanting to match with the other City's of New England, decided to rapidly modernize its capitol city, Marquette.

The Project started out with the basics, massive computer network's, gigantic building projects, Malls, things of that nature. But, as time went on, and things became more advanced, so did the city. While Marquette may not be the smartest city now-in-days, its one of the first, before Silicon Valley, or Charleston, its still a shining beacon of the Champlania we want.
