Are schools in your nation exclusively public or private, or do both types of schools exist?
Both type of school exist. The government provide free and semi-free public schools for the people who unable to afford it, but the majority of the population is educated by a vast variety of competing private schools.
Is education compulsory? If yes, until what age?
Level 1-6 is compulsory, and poor family will receive fines for not sending their children to school and with welfare only available if their children is fully under education (the base is that "uneducated people will grow up as a burden of the state"). After that, students can move to a higher education that actually suits their career choice.
-The concept of age-based education do not exist in highly meritocratic Wunderstrafanstalt, everything is determined by skill and achievement. Most well-known example is the current president which graduated from highschool at the age of 13. There is no limit on age, although if student became too old they will usually resign due to social pressure.
Are uniforms required? If yes, what do they look like?
Uniform is required in public school, which is a inexpensive plain white uniform with armband signifying student's school and level. Although no laws was ever passed, because Wunderstrafanstalt is socially conservative most private schools followed the same trend.
What values do your nations' schools instill?
Meritocracy, Self-reliance, initiative, (ultra)competitiveness, social morality/ value, discipline.
Is religion allowed in schools?Wunderstrafanstalt schools is very autonomous and there is no regulation preventing or advocating religion in schools. Religious practices thus ultimately depends on the whim of school administration and its students. School also have to compete against eachother, making institutions with "peculiar values" unpopular/ unfunded.
What language(s) are classes conducted in?
Wunderstrafanstaltians is expected to be trilingual in Helmer, New English, and German.

How long is a typical school day? What days of the week are classes held?
Depends on the schools. On paper, the average is from 06.30 am to 03.00 pm from Monday to Saturday, however due to Wunderstrafanstalt's harsh competitiveness, the existence of virtually compulsory afterschool classes and cram schools pushed the boundaries to 21.00 pm and a few morning hours of "holiday" for Sunday.
What classes are compulsory?
Economics, Politics (both for propaganda reasons), New English, Helmer, Practical Skills, Physical Education (more military-oriented than sport-oriented), Math.
What kinds of elective classes are available, if any?
"Any" is a bit misleading. To promote (extreme) specialization, Wunderstrafanstalt's highschool is basicly as diversified as college.
Do students get lunch/break periods?
Yes, for half an hour and only for lunch. Student is expected to bring their own lunch, eat on their class while continuing their (necessary and voluntary) self-study.
Most popular after-school programs?
Afterschool material enhancement classes. Other than that, then computer and programming skills, math and science clubs, and foreign language clubs.
How is discipline handled in your nations' schools?
Depends on each schools. Technically there is no restriction on corporal punishment, but stiff inter-school competition pushed them to "find the best method".
Can students be held back for poor performance?
The most important thing is for students to master their skills, above age priority or even social interaction. So yes.

Are schools in your nation exclusively public or private, or do both types of schools exist? All are exclusively public, with the exception that there are a few private (usually religious) colleges.
Is education compulsory? If yes, until what age? Yes, ages 6-16 (strongly recommended 4-18)
Are uniforms required? If yes, what do they look like? No uniforms are required.
What values do your nations' schools instill? Compassion, helpfulness, hard work, fairness, non-judgement, democracy.
Is religion allowed in schools? The students may discuss it amongst themselves, but teachers must address it in a non-biased way (ie. They can teach about religion, but can't push their beliefs onto others).
What language(s) are classes conducted in? Mainly English. Some schools have Spanish or Portuguese classes, however.

How long is a typical school day? What days of the week are classes held? Monday through Thursday, 9:30 AM to 4 PM.
What classes are compulsory?
  • ONE approved mathematics course (statistics, algebra, trig, etc).
  • TWO science courses (like physics, chemistry, biology, human anatomy, botony, etc).
  • ONE social studies course (like history, political science, etc)
  • ONE foreign language course.
  • ONE English course (combination of both literature analysis and composition).
  • TWO elective classes (includes many things, including SCUBA diving, welding, creative writing, driver's education, physical fitness, reptile care, and just about anything else a group of students and at least one teacher are passionate about).
What kinds of elective classes are available, if any? See above-mentioned students have two elective slots to fill each semester with things they are passionate about. Students can petition the school to add their favorite elective classes. However, the Principal may veto an elective that is just silly (like "naptime").
Do students get lunch/break periods? Yes. Students get a 45-minute "lunch and recreation" period, in which they may eat and venture outside, and two 15-minute breaks to study, rest, or take a walk.
Most popular after-school programs? Most students participate in a sport (popular ones are beach volleyball, baseball, golf, and, ironically for an Island, hockey) and one or two recreational clubs (SCUBA divers, hikers club, fishing club, etc).
How is discipline handled in your nations' schools? In a way that balances the need for order with a respect for the students. School counsellors resolve the root causes of most issues, while principals deal with majorly disruptive students. Common sanctions for bad behavior include suspension from sports/activities through the school, mandatory professional counselling, and, in extreme cases, in-school suspensions.
Can students be held back for poor performance? Yes, but all students have the opportunity to complete "summer school" and/or online courses to catch up.

Education in the Grand Duchy isn't the big deal that it is elsewhere. Alzatia is a primarily rural nation, so there's little use for fancy calculus or literature if all you're gonna do is butcher horses. In addition, many people view public education with extreme distrust as a "socialist" tool of indoctrination. For these reasons, education has never been compulsory in Alzatia, and likely never will be.
