State Media in YN

Postby Valeth Skettra » Mon Feb 13, 2017 12:12 pm

The main broadcaster on Valeth Skettra is the Valeth Skettra Broadcasting Corporation, a public owned body based in Burzkasdorp which operates two television channels, three radio networks and a website. The VSBC was originally established to rationalise and coordinate the first private radio stations that emerged in the early days of radio. For many years the VSBC was the only legal broadcaster until a loosening of the laws on broadcasting licences permitted private radio and television networks.

Radio Channels
*VSBC National Programme - a Full Service format radio network broadcasting on longwave, shortwave and mediumwave filler stations. The National Programme is the VSBC's main news and information outlet.
*VSBC Light Programme - a light music and entertainment format network broadcasting on mediumwave and shortwave.
*VSBC Provincial Network - a network of Full Service format regional stations operating on mediumwave.

Television Channels
*VSBC 1 - a general interest programme.
*VSBC 2 - a niche interest programme aimed at a more intellectual audience.

VBC1 and VBC2 are under the control of the state and get state funding but there are a great many independent channels at least for now.

The Gandoor Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) is the public television and radio broadcaster in Gandoor, however, while it is owned by the Government of Gandoor, it operates completely independently of the government and the Gandoorese government is prohibited from interfering with its normal affairs, outside of providing funding. It was established in 1921 following the passage of the Public Broadcasting Act in 1920, which transformed the private Radio Company Gandoor (which had a dominance over the airwaves at the time) into the GBC. Despite this, however, private companies were permitted to continue broadcasts.

The GBC currently operates four television channels and four radio stations in Gandoor:
Television
GBN - The primary channel operated by the GBC, established in 1949 as the Gandoor Broadcasting Network and was the first television channel to air in Gandoor. Predominantly airs GBC-produced programming, as programming created by other companies or programming which originated from foreign countries is currently restricted to a maximum of 40% of all annual programming.
GBN Alt - A channel that airs non-mainstream and experimental programming, originally established in 1996 as GBN Classics, but due to low-ratings was retooled and renamed to GBN Alt in 2004.
Gandoor News Network - A 24-hour news channel established in 1990.
Chiddies - A children's network aimed at ages 3-10 established in 2003. Unlike other GBC channels, Chiddies airs commercials due to being a cooperation between the GBC and Kidz!, a private corporation that creates child-friendly television programs, with the GBC only owning 49% of the network.

Radio
GBC Radio 1 - The primary radio station operated by the GBC, originally established in 1917 as Radio Gandoor, renamed to GBC Radio 1 in 1961. Broadcasts popular music and call-in shows.
GBC Radio 2 - Broadcasts non-mainstream music, established 1961.
GBC Radio News - Broadcasts news programming, established in 1951.
GBC Radio Entertainment - Broadcasts entertainment programming such as comedy series, radio serials, or soap operas, established in 1970.

In addition, the GBC also operates four international channels and co-owns numerous local channels in nations worldwide.

Overview

All media of the State of Waudelheim is controlled absolutely by the government. This is to insure dissemination of approved information and inculcation of patriotism. There are about 20 TV channels available to the public all divided into necessary subcategories. Each channel typically contains programming for specific genres and types of entertainment. There are several radio stations as well dealing with a variety of categories. Extranational programming is specifically targeted and jammed by the state.

Television

There are around 20 television channels available to the public. All programming is controlled by the Central Media Network, Telecommunications Section. This is a state organ that perpetuates information in line with Chief Alfred Sigilwald's concerns and views. Some uniquely Waudelheimer programming include an Ideological Channel (channel 2) which focuses heavily on intellectual discussion about the merits of fascist despotism in the Waudelheim tradition. This is a direct product of the Sigilwaldian development that in order for fascism to be successful, it must not only proselytize but also be accessible to the layman.

Radio

There are several dozen radio stations that are sponsored by Central Media. The state actively broadcasts government rhetoric, entertainment, and news across the airwaves. Traditional Waudelheimer music is also available. Radio has an especially high stature in Waudelheimer society as a primary source for information. This is a unique cultural trait.

Other Media

Other media includes state-sponsored theater, cinema, and athletic games. This is in-line with the Sigilwaldian view that the people must be entertained and experience enjoyment provided by the state.

The Lancovian Broadcasting Organization is our public broadcaster, but we also have several private broadcasters. It runs radio and television channels, as well as an experimental "new media" online channel. In addition to selling its content abroad through LBO International, it also participates in LV Connect; a multi-language online broadcast that aims to bring Lancovian culture and entertainment to the world. LV Connect is jointly owned operated by several Lancovian broadcasters, including LBO.

There is no state-owned media organization of any kind. The government does post announcements on its official website, mainly detailing its workings and agendas.

There isn't any. Media is entirely independent of public ownership and funding and all networks are run by private individuals.

Popular news media includes the following:

Television;

National Intorcean Televised News (NITN); Founded over 50 years ago it was the first and oldest televised news broadcast.
Televised Enquirer Network (TEN); Founded 30 years ago it serves as the above's main competitor.
Global Television News Network (GTNN); At less than 10 years old, this network is relatively new but not very well liked due to perceived bias.

Radio;
W-NNN; National News Network is the oldest technological media and the last major radio news left in the nation.

Newspaper;
The Frontiersman; This paper has been in print since before the nation's founding and is nearly ready to celebrate 400 years of news.
The Intorcean Daily; One of the early 20th Century prints, this paper nearly put the above out of business.
The Buena Times; This paper has been in print for only about 25 years, and has never really gotten off the ground due to it's more technologically advanced competition.
Gracelandia; While everyone will tell you not to read it because it's fake news and garbage print, many of them must be liars. This paper has been in business for 15 years so they must be getting their money from somewhere.

We don't have state-owned media, as we feel it would be biased even if we tried to make it impartial. We leave reporting to private organisations and hold the tenet of free speech and self expression extremely dear.

Officially, all television, radio and Internet is controlled by the Ministry of Media and content must be vetted by the Ministry's censorship board. However, in practice, the Ministry rarely interferes in media content unless it is something that the public find morally objectionable. People are free to express their views on both television, the Internet and radio without government interference.

The Saffrarian Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) is the state broadcasting company of Saffraria. Prior to 2001 it was the sole legal radio and television broadcaster in the country. Following the passage of the Media Diversification Act of 2001, it remains the largest single media company in Saffraria (and the main producer of domestic television and radio content), despite foreign broadcasts being unjammed and the mushrooming of community, movement and society based (CMSB*) channels and radio stations in the wake of media deregulation.

In addition to a strong online presence and a multitude of regional channels, the SBC currently maintains the following nation-wide radio and television services:

Radio stations
  • SAFM: news and talk radio.'
  • Radio 1: chart music.
  • Radio 2: music; popular & electronic.
  • Radio 3: music; alternative rock.
  • Radio 4: music; classical.
  • Radio 5: music; folk & traditional
  • SBC World Service: general content; international audience.
Television channels
  • SBC 1: flagship channel; general content. [Broadcast domestically.]
  • SBC 2: general entertainment; drama and action. [Broadcast domestically.]
  • SBC 4: general entertainment; science fiction and fantasy. [Broadcast domestically.]
  • SBC Avante: experimental, art-house content. [Broadcast domestically.]
  • SBC Entertainment: general entertainment from SBC 1, SBC 2, SBC 3 and occasionally SBC Avante. [Broadcast internationally only.]
  • SBC Kids: children's content. [Broadcast domestically and internationally.]
  • SBC Parliament: public affairs programming, including live broadcasts of all major parliamentary proceedings. [Broadcast domestically.]
  • SBC News: 24/7 news service. [Broadcast domestically.]
  • SBC World News: 24/7 news service. [Broadcast internationally only.]
  • Saffrarian Geographic Channel: documentaries, especially about science and history. [Broadcast domestically and internationally.]
* As Saffraria's economy is structurally socialist, the CMSB concept was developed to allow for media deregulation and diversification without private ownership. CMSB stations are either owned by the community they broadcast to, or by registered social movements, political parties and social clubs.

The Philjian Broadcasting Corporation is a large and venerable organisation, founded with the remit of informing, educating, and entertaining the populace. It maintains a large number of services in pursuit of that goal. Here are the most important.

Television:
PBC 1 - The most major channel, showing the most popular programmes from many genres and live sport, as well as the main news at Six O'Clock.
PBC 2 - Caters more towards a highbrow market, and broadcasts more dramas and documentaries than PBC 1.
PBC 3 - A pop culture oriented channel aimed at a young adult audience. Notable for it's evening animation block.
PBC 4 - Often described as being like what PBC 2 was originally, PBC 4 broadcasts special interest documentaries and foreign language viewing.
PBC 5 - The children's channel. Essentially PBC 1 for a young audience.
PBC 6 - 24 hour rolling news, with other current affairs shows thrown in.

Radio:
PBC Radio 1: News and live sport.
PBC Radio 2: Chart music.
PBC Radio 3: Easy listening music and conversation.
PBC Radio 5: Classical music, opera, and jazz.
PBC Radio 6: Documentaries, current affairs shows, comedy shows, and radio plays of many genres.
PBC Radio 7: Alternative and world music.
PBC Radio 8: Radio for children.
