So how do you reload it than? Through the barrel? There literally needs to be a door that you can open to shove rounds through and into the carousel.

1) Very slowly. It's done by inserting cartridges into the loader and then the automatic loader moves them into the magazine. The gunner has to manually input the information of the nature of ammunition so the loader knows what it's loading, too. It makes bustle loaders very attractive because they actually can be reloaded with a pistol port or whatever.

The way I designed it basically the thing is like a giant revolver drum thats inside my hull.* And the thing can spin around independently of the loading mechanism which is just a rail mounted grabber that picks the round out of the drum, carries it along a track and puts it in front of the ramer. So it would reload literally like a revolver does. You open a loading gate and than you shove a round in, rotate the cylinder one spot, shove the next round in etc. And that can be done relatively quickly, you just need a roof hatch.

Well yes, reloading is going to take time simply because you have to lift the bloody shells onto the hull side by hand. I figured I could maybe accelerate it by having a crane on my shell transporting truck. But yea, it won't be super quick. Beats having to manhandle shells up to the top of the turret, down a hatch and than manually store them in some pocket inside the turret for hand loading. So it beats my last tank by default.

This said, in theory I could make some sort of reloading vehicle that just feeds the rounds vertically one at a time. I just don't really think it'd be worth it compared to just having a light crane on the back of a truck.
