Military

The Military of ImperialOverlord is divided into the Imperial People's Army (IPA), Imperial People's Navy (IPN), Imperial People's Air force (IPAF), Imperial People's Strategic Force (IPSF) and the paramilitary Red Guard. The Military follows the doctrine of mechanised land warfare concentrating mainly on army, thus, the Imperial People's Army is the most important division of the military. The Imperial People's Strategic Force controls the ballistic missile and associated WMD assets of the nation.

Each Division is headed by a Marshal (Field Marshal, Air Marshal, Sea Marshal), the highest military rank in the nation. The Position of commander-in-chief, or Grand Marshal, is held by The Imperial Overlord. The nation's standing army is made up largely of volunteers with conscripts under training providing for the rest of the manpower. Conscripts must serve a minimum of 2 years in the military, every able citizen must also attend a 1 month conscription each year for the remainder of their lives. This ensures that every able citizen is fit for combat should the nation be attacked. ImperialOverlord does not bar women from entry into combat roles they are however segregated into separate units from men, providing for a larger manpower pool.

Health: The scale of demand for medical resources is large and the health system is therefore stretched. Health-care is basic, but all workers are insured and disease and famine have been greatly reduced in recent decades. The government maintains the policy that it's workers and soldiers must be of the highest quality to ensure maximum output, thus healthcare is a high priority.

History

Rebellion


Before 1806 the land and people that would become ImperialOverlord were a scattered people. Divided into mercantile citystates and claiming racial superiority over each other, they bickered and fought many wars, both minor and major. In this period, elsewhere known as the Renaissance, the rich bankers and merchants of the cities exploited the masses to fuel and pay for their power struggles. As was common in such situations, the workers and peasants begun to grow hateful of their masters. Like elsewhere around the world, Marxism infected the lower echelons of society. The capitalist merchantmen were slow to act, not taking seriously the danger they were in.

In 1802, the dawn of the Industrial revolution, workers gathered together in huddled groups in basements and cellars to plot a general strike. Unions were formed and dissent grew. The capitalists and aristocratic members of society, finally realizing something was up, came together, forgetting the rivalries of old. The city states united in their mission to crush socialism. On the 5th of December 1802 all workers across the 32 citystates quit their jobs in the factories and farms, and marched into the city squares demanding the abdication of their various monarchs and abolition of private industry.

The soldiers, sent by the upper-class, opened fire on the protesters and without knowing it sparked the Popular revolution.


Revolution


With the massacre of several hundred workers and peasants in city's across the land, the assembled masses took up arms and fought their oppressors. At first the well trained and experienced armies of the old order (as the capitalists and aristocrats were known as) crushed the peasant armies and routed the survivors into the inhospitable wilderness. However, without means to make more ammo or feed themselves the armies of the old order grew weaker and took more causalities. Causalities that couldn't be readily replaced. The revolutionary armies grew in strength as more people joined their cause and they became more experienced with each battle and skirmish.

It was around this time that rumors spread of one particular revolutionary who went by the alias Syuzeren or Overlord. Up until that time the peasant mobs had been leaderless, acting on passion and fueled emotions rather then thought. Syuzeren acted upon this and using the power of his oratory and iron will was able to bend the mob to do his bidding. It was subtle and purely psychological, soon enough Syuzeren's will became the will of the people, their uneducated minds being easy targets for a trained psychologist.

The civil war lasted 3 years, causing the utter ruination of the country and the death of some 25 million people due to war, famine and pestilence. Vast areas of the nation were occupied by Imperialist foreign powers and soon only the nucleus of the revolution remained. The Overlord, knowing his position was weak and that it was only a matter of time before the people became disillusioned with the revolution, started a rapid industrialization program, one that would turn his ragtag peasant army and handful of cities into a modern industrial nation.


Reformation


Within 20 years, the Popular revolution settled into a stable productive nation under a strict form of Socialism that became known as Syuzerenism or Overlordism. The system, which was never explained or widely documented was thought to be summed up with this popular government motto created in 1827:

"Each worker must work faster and harder for the betterment of man. You work not for yourself, but for others. You are a hero of the people, the Overlord praises your name. The Overlord watches you, his eyes see all. The Overlord listens to you, his ears hear all. The Overlord supports you, his hand reaches all. The Overlord fights for you, his wrath finds all."


The system worked like an ant colony, each individual worker meant nothing. But as a whole the workers were strong. The Overlord was their overseer, making sure they did not slip up and that the people's revolution was maintained. This system proved to be very industrious and the small backwater nation grew in in prominence and power. In a period of 5 years from 1829 to 1834 a spate of wars increased the nations size tenfold and it's population expanded. The Overlord decided a new policy was needed. A National identity was created. Because of the era, past history and the liberation of the workers The Free Industrialized Federation was formed. The people had only one symbol from which to unite under and so The Overlord became the nation. As it was in the beginning, the will of the Overlord was the will of the state and the people. To mock the Imperialists that had for so long oppressed them, the Overlord took the prefic title of 'Imperial' and the people became known as Imperials. This contradiction baffled many in the wider world, but the Imperials saw no contradiction. They saw only what the Overlord wanted them to see.


Reunion


In 1879, without reason or warning, the Federal People's Assembly was formed by the Imperial Overlord's decree. The upper echelons of the government, those who carried out the states will, held elections and flooded the nation with a mass of propaganda. The candidates would form the assembly and become the primary governing body of the Federation, under the executive power of The Imperial Overlord. The Overlord had long since disappeared from public life, though no one noticed, they just kept working.

The members of the Assembly were all from one party, indeed the only party in the nation. The People's Party. Great fanfare was made about the elections, with hundreds of candidates giving sweeping speeches that sparked great emotion in the crowd, massive rallies were held with banners and flags held up by fanatic workers and great parades and marches were organized with everyone singing state sponsored songs about the glorious revolution. The elections were heralded as a great success and a new sense of pride and nationalism festooned in the hearts of the Imperial people, their nation was just as great as any capitalist democracy in the world. Oddly enough, no one remembered voting and odder still was the fact that every candidate won a seat in the Assembly. However this was all quickly forgotten with the news that war had been declared in 1882.

The Federation had been savagely attacked by a nation to it's west, a nation that received help from it's allies in a attempt to destroy the Federation. The populace was mobilized and the vast industry of ImperialOverlord was geared towards a war-footing. Massive amounts of weapons, supplies and ships were produced, so much so that ImperialOverlord single handedly outproduced all of it's enemies combined. The war also boosted technology forward by many years and before long aeroplanes were used in war. Though the Federation overran it's original enemies within a year, the Imperials stayed at a war footing for 13 years. Each month brought a new enemy that needed to be defeated, and each month people gathered in the streets to cheer the soldiers as they marched off to foreign lands.

The permanent state of war expanded the borders of ImperialOverlord to such a degree that it soon became one of the largest nations in the known world. However the 'war-based' economy could not take in the fluctuation and soon collapsed. ImperialOverlord isolated itself from the world, providing for it's own needs and closing it's borders to the world.


Redemption


The period of Isolation lasted 50 years. In those years various policy's were enforced by the Federal People's assembly and approved by the Imperial Overlord. The population swelled, the city's expanded and huge apartment building sprung up all throughout the land. The countryside became just as industrialized as the urban areas as a booming population was put to work. Infrastructure improved and soon rail networks and highways were built, the nation mass producing the new "automobile". Mining begun in earnest as the world realized the potential for the various resources beneath the surface. ImperialOverlord soon found itself approached by various governments wanting to trade, obviously forgetting the brutal wars and aggressive nature of the Federation some decades ago.

The nation soon became a major exporter of goods as they could undercut the prices of every competitor with it's "cheap" labor based economy. The massive wealth that entered the nation went directly to the state, that is the Government. The Imperial people were well looked after, they had a place to sleep, food, sanitation, work, sport everything the other nations had without the temptation of money. Indeed, the national currency, the 'Hourst', was not even seen by the people. But they did not know or care for such things. They strove to be the best workers in their respective fields. An odd quirk in the national psyche and a clear sign of over a hundred years of conditioning.

ImperialOverlord was back in the limelight, and continued with it's contradicting policies and economic reforms for another 50 years, only faltering in a brief economic crisis in 2005 when the export market collapsed. The nation was able to recover and move to greener pastures, finding new markets to trade in for the betterment of man. A saying that was still shouted in the factories of the Federation as each worker worked harder and faster for the state and for the Imperial Overlord, who watched over them. It never occurred to them that the Imperial Overlord would have been over 250 years old, but for them the Imperial Overlord was always there. Watching them. Listening to them. Supporting them. Punishing them.

Political Structure: The Emperor, supreme ruler and executive leader of The Imperial Federation, is elected for life by majority vote. The right to vote, however, resides only in the hands of the 45 Count-Electors. The Count-Electors are the noble leaders of their respective Electorates, the Provinces that make up the Federation. There is only one Count-Elector per Electorate, and thus, only ever 45 Electors. The Electors, though not offcially in charge, have great sway over the governments policy's and largely dictate the day-to-day runnings of the Imperial Federation.

Capital: Centronis (Real life location of Liverpool)

Military
The Imperial Federation prides itself first and formost on it's Navy. Being an Island nation, the navy has always been the cental focus of The Imperial Federation, surpassing it's rivals with superiority in financing, tactics, training, organisation, social cohesion, hygiene, dockyard facilities, logistical support and warship design and construction. Though not the largest or most powerful army, The Imperial Federation's land forces enjoy the advantage of not being a continental nation. Allowing for increased specialization in their various fields. Especially quickly growing Marine Corps, which work hand-in-hand with the Navy. The army of The Imperial Federation is small, but by no means weak.

The Machinea Imperiate


Overview

A shadowy and mysterious entity, the Machinea Imperiate is a nation of the artificial. It's planet-factories are home to all known members of the machine persuasion. The governing Machinea race are a rare oddity of life in that they are biological machines, created by evolution rather then a maker. The Machinea are self-replicating and do not take on a consistent form species wide, they are also genderless and maintain themselves through a type of nanomachine that constantly regenerates them. The Machinea are especially proficient in creating artificial life forms, though take great offense were they to be called artificial themselves. Able survive the extremities of space, the Machinea are typically found constantly moving through the galaxy, harvesting asteroids. Recently they have begun settling unclaimed planets and turning them into massive factories powered by the planets core. The Machinea are naturally equipped with dealing with the universe through numbers and thus have quickly established themselves as premier banking conglomerates. The Machinea Imperiate is less a nation and more a company.

Extra Info: The government of the Machinea Imperiate consists of a Directorate. The Directorate oversees and governs the entire system and is made up of 12 members, each known as an Overseer. The Overseers share power equally among themselves, deciding upon issues via majority vote. The Directorate, however, has not convened in the last 30 years. Nor has any Overseer been elected, they have always been Overseers and always will be. The Overseers can only be replaced when they are lost. It is extremely difficult for any Machinea to be permanently lost, as though their bodies steadily deteriorate over thousands of years, their consciousness can be recovered and reinstalled in another vessel. This is a vital part of Machinea life, as the act of reproduction to create an entirely new Machinea has been lost many millenniums ago. There has been no new additions to the species in thousands of years, though some recovered consciousness have been damaged beyond repair. The Machinea are in a slow decline as their numbers diminish, being lost or rendered insane through system damage.

The Machinea contribute to their long-lived lifestyles by remaining out of sight, rarely stirring from the home planets and acting through the vast numbers of droids and machines that maintain the Imperiate. This means that their is no accurate number to the amount of Machinea who actually exist, nor do they need to physically meet to communicate among one another. All Machinea are linked like a network of independent parts, able to communicate over vast distances with little to no delay. Machinea are also able to implant their consciousness into any of the Non-biological entities that make up the vast majority of the Imperiate, taking over the machine and controlling it like it would it's own body. In this way it's consciousness can not be lost, only the destruction of the host vessel can result in the loss of a Machinea if not recovered.

The Machinea are an ancient species, heralding from a distant galaxy. It was likely that this galaxy was entirely consumed by the Machinea as they continually expanded and absorbed the resources of everything around them, creating more and more self-replicating machines. This was only stopped by a cataclysmic event, possibly brought on by the Machinea themselves in an effort to halt their own seemingly endless exponential growth. The result was a dead galaxy and a handful of surviving Machinea who have found their way to the current galaxy of residence.

The Machinea, having lost the ability to produce offspring, instead creating countless Artificial intelligences to maintain their slice of the galaxy. Ranging from mindless construction bots and factories to intelligent battle droids and starships. The only requirements of the Imperiate seem to be raw materials, from planets, asteroids and suns from which to run their empire. Many of the Planets controlled by the Imperiate are completely inhospitable to biological organisms including the capital of Technos which, though was once a terrestrial planet, has been completely replaced by factories and metal. Only the core is remains and it too has been heavily altered to suit the Machinea purposes. Technos is one giant factory.

The Ordos Sanctum, or 'Holy Order', most commonly referred to as the Sanctum Knights.

A religious military order, the Sanctum Knights operate and guard the Holy city of Thescoram, the most important religious site in -Insert name of religion here-. The Order maintains control of the territory surrounding the holy city. This territory is divided into separate electorates, each governed by an Elector. Each Elector represents one the 12 main Gods. The Electors then elect amongst themselves a Magistor Generallius or Grandmaster, who remains the legitimate leader of the Order until his death, presiding over the Order from the city of Thescoram.

Geography


The massive city of Thescoram is situated in a bay within a bay, the surrounding in heavily cultivated farmland to supply the city population with food. Only a few other major towns and castles reside outside the city boundaries. The lack of territory is made up for in the wealth gained from exterior assets, namely land owned by the church in other countries. The land itself is flat, highly fertile and lightly forested on the borders. The climate is temperate.

Military

The Order is first and foremost a military one. Though lacking a substantial population, the Order operates a highly trained and heavily armoured fighting cadre of Knights. Due to the Knightly influence of the entire state, half of the army is made up of these Knights, an unusually high percentage in comparison to other Kingdoms. The Knights are typically armoured with fine steel plate armour and lances as well as an assortment of other hand weapons depending on each knight's preference. The Knights are backed up by Militiamen, lightly armed bowman and mounted sergeants who fulfill the roles the knights themselves can not. Sanctum Knights also take into battle ancient relics and other holy items to inspire and bless the Knights before and during battle. These relics are guarded and maintained by warrior-monks. The armies of the order are always led by Electors who serve not only as rulers but as generals.

The knights of the order come from both noble and common background, seeing that all men are equal under the Gods. However each knight must undertake an individual quest to prove their worthiness once their 10 year initiation is complete. Quests usually involve, deeds of great chivalry and valour in battle, rarely Knights are asked to retrieve holy artefacts. Before this quest, Knights are known as initiates, they may also be seen in battle fighting alongside Sanctum Knights.

Other Military Units:

Questing Knights: Men who venture forth in search of adventure and chivalrous deeds. Individually superb warriors who carry their entire lives on the back of their horse. Unlike the Sanctum Knights, these Knights are charged with locating relics and returning them to Thescoram, thus they are allowed to adorn themselves with personal insignia. Though they don't typically fight alongside Sanctum armies, they do form bands of Questing Knights that work well as elite horse units, given that they spend the majority of their lives in each others company.

Fanatics: Doomed men who are punished for their crimes through immense psychological torture. Their warped views and fearless nature make them incredibly durable warriors, without fear of death or pain. This is only helped by the drugged like state they enter battle in, using an arcane knowledge of herbs and alchemy, priests of the Sanctum Order are able to infuse the Fanatics with sense of invincibility. Carrying no armour and wielding huge two handed hooked swords or axes, the Fanatics are terrible warriors to behold, constantly bleeding and covered in self-inflicted burns, these men put themselves in massive amounts of pain for their Gods.
