My country has ponies. Ponies are horses. German for horse is "Pherd". "istan" is a suffix meaning "land of the [X] people". Hence, "Pherdistan" ("Ferdistan") means "land of the horses/ponies".

I've always believed that a nation should encourage input from all ethnic and religious groups in their territory, so I wanted it call my nation "Land of all peoples", But I decided to translate it into a foreign language. All the German ones were taken (I am not kidding about that), so I went with the Latin version.

I heard about this game and thought, "That would be fun", then spent about ten minutes trying to come up with a believable country name by coming up with random sounds then trying to spell them. I my have slightly messed up with my choice seeing its one letter away from Heroin and it has the word loin right in the middle of it. But I stuck with it and it grew on me.

I legitimately have no clue. It just popped into one day, and sounded amazing. Whenever I made a nation name, Versilia just sounded...right. I've had it for years, tucked into my head.

The native name, Yuflijan, I got from a nation name generator on Fantasy Name Generators.

Only recently have I learnt that Versilia is a real place, in Italy...

The Land of the Ephyral was a more complex version of my IC nation name 'Ephyra'. Both were made up.

I later realised that Ephyra was once the name of a village or town in a Greece, the name of at least two different nymphs in Greek mythology, and part of the life cycle of a jellyfish.

I wanted to create a nation based on the Minoan civilization. However, the Minoans wouldn't have called themselves that, and Cretan sounds too much like cretin for my liking. So I took the Ancient Egyptian name for Crete, Keftiu, (the Phoenicians had a similar name, but I forget what it was) and made it a bit more Greek-sounding.
