General civilian broadcasting as well as emergency alerts.

Given the lack of restriction, pirate radio is common. (especially in low-income areas)

Broadcasting through radio is used to easily provide important information to civilians. It is also used as a form of entertainment, oftenly by music and talk shows.

Most people own hand radios. Radio broadcasting is open to all.

Some stations:
93.5 FM AHLY, Worker's Voice -- The official station of the OBAU, for info on worker organization, political news and emergency broadcasts
95.7 FM AHMR, Rock Against Oppression -- Modern rock, mostly alternative and punk. Often politically themed. Run by the RAO Council from an independent studio on the campus of the Emma Goldman Polytechnic.
100.5 FM AHSM, Music To My Ears -- Jazz and some modern classical. Run by Culture AG.

Radio is still fascinating to Priycians, so of course radio is used for just about everything, even with computers and television being used. The best and newest music is played for several genres, stories are told, weather is broadcasted, and the human corporations pay high money for control over ad space: to get into the mind of these newly found people would mean a nice boost in revenue and an edge over competition.

All playthings citizens have a radio assigned to each household. It is built in to the wall and cannot be shut off, but it can be turned down. To avoid reception of foreign propaganda, there are only three frequencies selectable:
- 70.0 MHz, the Bharkerean Enlightened News Information Service (BENIS)
- 66.6 MHz, the Bharkerean Prayer Station, with a variety of programming including hymnals praising the GLORIOUS Dear Leader God-Emperor, a reminder to pray, and information on proper prayer etiquette.
- 68.5 Mhz, the Bharkerean Entertainment Station, with all sorts of great timeless classics like, "Let's Raise Great Family for Service to the Party" and "Hunting Treasonous Scum."

If you may have noticed, we use a different frequency allocation. This makes it difficult for WA agents and terrorists to modify our radios to receive foreign propaganda programming.

Radio in the Sovereign Empire begun with the founding of Imperial Radio Service in 1923. Radio Networks are given license to use a certain spectrum by the Imperial Radio-Television and Telecommunications Council. The later successor to the IRS, known as the Atlantis Cable Corporation maintains four national radio channels and two regional radio channels. National radio channels are required to use English as its primary language, with other regional languages allowed on regional channels.

  • ACC Radio One: youth oriented, mostly contemporary pop and rock music (including Top 40 singles), plus news, original in-house live music sessions, original live music concerts and music documentaries
  • ACC Radio Two: adult oriented entertainment, wide range of music—specially adult contemporary and middle of the road, also talk, comedy, plus news, original in-house live music sessions, original live music concerts and music documentaries.
  • ACC Radio Three: arts and high culture, special-interest music (classical, jazz, world music), plus news, original in-house live music sessions, original live music concerts and music documentaries.
  • ACC Radio News: news, current affairs, arts, history, original in-house drama, original in-house first-run comedy, science, books and religion.
  • ACC Radio Gristin: News, music, sport and talk from Gristol.
  • ACC Radio Serkonsi: News, music, sport and talk from Serkonos.
Since the diversification in the mass media in the early 80's, ACC has seen competition from various private broadcasters such as GS-BN, Channel 5, and Cloud Media. On average, Imperial Citizens listen to the radio 12.8 hours of the week.

Radio is widely used. The government, news, weather, etc. all have their radio stations. Music is also popular here too. It is, with newspaper and the internet, among one of the most widely-used news sources. Since TV market crashed due to the lack of popularity, people would rather hear the news on a cheaper radio (And the radio industry is large too, and that's why it's cheap, radios are mainly produced in Chile and in Visayas.) A radio costs 20 Maravedís, barely 7-8 dollars.

Radio is used extensively by the Impirean Intelligence Services (IIS) for communications. The IIS operates several numbers stations for communications with agents in hostile territory, due to the long reach of shortwave radio and the incredible security presented by a one-time pad encryption system over radio (the listener cannot be tracked). In addition to these IIS numbers stations, the military uses a number of encrypted radio beacons to transmit information, including nuclear launch codes, should the occasion arise. Besided government use, amateur radio users are very common in Impireacht. There is very little restriction placed on radio, and thus pirate radio can be heard frequently, and many frequencies are a complete zoo, with death/rape threats, hate speech, and anti-government propaganda being quite common. The average layman, however, uses radio for news, listening to emergency broadcasting, and music.

The radio have been in use in Rikana since the final months of the Republic, in 1935. During the Black Revolution in 1937, both factions, Republicans and Revolutionaries, operate their own respective radio stations to broadcast news and propaganda messages, and the radio played a major role in winning the hearts of the Rikanan people.

Presently, there are five legal radio stations in Rikana; two are state-owned while the rest are operated by the private sector. The state-run radio stations (Rikanan State Radio/RSR and Red-Black FM) usually broadcast national news, state propaganda and announcements, and national music. The private radio stations play popular music, news reports on current affairs, advertisements, etc.

The State Ministry for Information & Communications (SMIC) oversees the radio stations in Rikana. Among other responsibilities, the SMIC regulates the stations and ensures none of them broadcasts anti-State and/or anti-Party messages. A recent study conducted by SMIC states that today, every household in Rikana has access to radio, be it from their cell phones, vehicle audio systems, or plain conventional radio units.

Radio is very popular in VSUOI. Broadcast liscences are free, and there are equipment subsidies for stations that don't run ads.

INBC Radio (Island National Broadcast Corperation) is one of the most popular English stations on the island. It is run by the publicly funded INBC (which is like cbc in canada). INBC Radio 1 has variety programming and with national or local news alternating every 30 mins. Radio 2 has 24 hour national and international news. Radio 3 is a variety Music station which plays a lot of local content. Radio 4 runs entertainment programming like talk shows, comedies, satire, and soaps.

There are also a lot of community stations run by universities or community centers. These have a wide variety of programs due to their diverse groups of broadcasters. One example is ICHBU which is run by students and profs. from Haddock Bay University. It has brought a lot of publicity to young and local performers, some of which have become national favorites.

Private corporate stations are rarely heard of due to punitive taxes and lack of listenership. Air time is dominated by ads, which is not recieved well by the general populous. Also, most people prefer the variety of the community stations.

Some citizens do run their own stations out of their homes. These stations seem to play strange content and have an even stranger group of listeners.

All stations must give their legal station id every 30 mins. Station ids include: the time, the program name, the station code and name, the frequency, and location (city) of broadcast. Example: "it's 9:00, you're listening to Beyond the News on ICHBU, Haddock Bay University Radio, 74.8 FM, live from Uptown Haddock Bay." (Yes, this is a real example.)

Station codes help identify the type of station. Each code has a 2 letter prefix, which shows the station type; and a 3 character custom suffix, which can have letters or numbers. There are three types of station code:
1) Public - example: INBC1 - mainly used for INBC radio and for other publicly operated stations. Prefix: IN
2)Community - ex: ICCMU - for volunteer run Co-Op stations. Prefix: IC
3)Private - ex: IPBOB - for corporate stations and stations run by guys in basements. Prefix: IP

Radio is chiefly used for news and entertainment. It is regulated by the Broadcasting Board of Abarri.

Six FM radio stations are state-recognized, with four located in the capital and two in smaller cities.
One station plays the mainstream Top 41, two play catalogue hits, while the rest have a "variety show" format that caters to the lowest common denominator. One FM station, the only Spanish-broadcasting one, is owned by the government. The rest use both English and Spanish.

Twelve AM radio stations broadcast news across the country. None of these stations are found in the capital city. Half of them broadcast in Spanish, half in English.
