Local identification and loyalties have always been a lot stronger than identification with and loyalty to the greater Cheltish "nation", because of Chelta's history of decentralisation. Cheltish national feeling has been a thing since the 19th Century, but local feeling is still stronger, and not many take it to the level of overt nationalism.

The people are not necessarily nationalistic, yet most of them are strong conservatives and are really mad a the government that starts to take a turn to left- wing liberalism. the nationalist party still has a strong 22% of the congress seats.

While the government is slightly more moderate, nationalism is fairly commonplace in Eastern Ukraine. The types of nationalism can vary, some advocate a hostile re-unification with Kuyask, others believe Eastern Ukraine should find it's own identity. Then there are the minority who believe in either pan-slavism or pine for the days of the USSR.

Concepts such as nationality and nationalism are, therefore, heavily discouraged in Bemberna, and the government always focusses collectively on 'the People' rather than the state in all of its statements, both internally and in communiques with foreigners, as it attempts to distinguish itself from the autocratic regime it displaced.
