Elections are for the pitiful, since only Benevolent Overlord F'Earstel has the charisma, intelligence, and experience to guide our nation on its righteous path. He will choose his successor when he passes away, but we're all still hoping he's immortal.

He is succeeded by his firstborn son, or his eldest surviving son. The children of the deceased Emperor's elder children are excluded unless no son of the Emperor survives, in which case the eldest surviving son of the Emperor's eldest sons is chosen, proceeding until no sons of the Emperor's eldest son survive. Afterwards the Council of the Spheres convenes and chooses one of the Emperor's brothers, uncles or male cousins or nephews to succeed him. If none survive, the most decorated Imperial nobleman is then declared Emperor, passing the title on fully to another dynasty.

The President-Imperial is selected by a majority vote of 900 representatives; 100 are sent from each city-state. Each city-state is allowed to make their own laws in regards to how the votes of the representatives are decided:

4 (Latark, Caltherian, Marsi, and Drillit) use a winner-take-all system where all 100 representatives vote for the winner of a popular vote performed within the city-state.
2 (Wolfsbane and Stadliss) use a proportional system where votes are divided based on the results of an election performed within the city state.
2 (Eternum and Asteon) has a sitting Queen/Lord (respectively) who determines the vote; in practice, these monarchs always determine a vote in accordance with a popular election performed within the city-state (effectively winner-takes-all).
Eclipital uses a lottocratic system where 100 citizens are randomly selected and sent to Marsi to vote as they please.

The President is elected in two stages - primary and general election, as is normal. In the nonpartisan primary, any candidate who reaches the number of requires signatures may run. As long as they comply with campaign finance regulation, candidates may raise as much money as they want. Any candidate who earns a certain percentage of the vote will join up with whatever party they associate with, if any, and enter the general election. The only campaign finance rules here are that each candidate must publish where every monie comes from, and that all candidates must agree to have the same budgets. Therefore, outspending is not possible in the general election. Then the president is just elected by popular vote.

There is a two-round direct popular vote for President. If one gets a Majority in the first round, there is no second round. The Presidential term is 5 years, and the term limit is two. The President answers only to the people and not to the Reichstag.
The other executive office (the Kaiser) is a hereditary one, where the first child of the Kaiser is the Heir Apparent regardless of gender. He also excercises some power.

Three Archons are elected by the Senate. The Senate consists of the ruling Ephors of the various Themes. There are 40 subnational constituents of the Kingdom called Themes. Each Theme is ruled by a particularly noble family absolutely, headed by an individual called the Ephor. The Ephor is the supreme executive, legislative, and judicial official of the Theme. Each Ephor serves concurrently as a Senator. During necessary legislative sessions or upon the incapacitation of an Archon the Ephors convene in Arisithon to elect from among them a new Archon.

Traditionally the selection involves a choice among only the 5 most powerful families, though legally speaking anyone may run. The Archons are elected and serve for life. They may not lose this position of power except by expulsion of the other two or by unanimous vote of the Senate.

Elections? No, the leader is chosen through royal inheritance. If all family dies out somehow, the leader's most trusted advisor rules as they were closest to them in social hierarchy and becomes the new royal family. This only happened once decades ago.

The President of Bectan is elected to their office in a two-round system of voting, held once every six years in October; the first round of voting is held on the first Saturday in October with all admitted candidates, and the second round of voting is held on the last Saturday in October with the two candidates that polled the highest number of votes in the first round.

The President is elected to a nonrenewable six-year term; previously, before the establishment of the Third Republic in 1998, the head of state had no specified term limit.

The President of the NVI is elected by popular vote. He (since as of this date, no woman has been elected) serves for 4 years and no longer than two consecutive terms. Part of his responsibilities as President is selecting the members of the seven-man Federal Council. Each member of the Council has exclusive executive portfolios and is technically of equal rank with the President within that specific sphere of duty.

Our election process is fairly similar to the United States, but in Dyter we split the votes for each state.
A President can serve two terms. Each term last 6 years. If the President dies while in office, then the Vice President takes his place as President.
This is how we split our votes:
Let's say X State had 26,000 people who voted
X State has 25 electoral votes
Candidate Y gets 16,000 votes(62%)
Candidate Z gets 9,000 votes(35%)
Candidate YZ gets 1,000 votes(3%)
Basically, Candidate Y gets 62% of electoral votes, Candidate Z gets 25% of electoral votes, etc.
Which means that Candidate Y would get 16 electoral votes. Candidate Z would get 8 electoral votes, and Candidate YZ would get 1 electoral vote. Whoever wins the most votes, wins the election and becomes President. If for some reason there is a tie between multiple parties, then the House would break the tie, and announce the new President.

GENERAL ELECTIONS IN THE UNION

Under the provisions of the Federal Constitution, as it stands today, the Director of the Federal Occidental Union is elected through a five-step process.

1) DELEGATION ‘WEEK’:
Today, Delegation “Week” is the process in which the official political parties in each county set debate among themselves to set forth their pick for the provincial delegation. In the earlier days of the Union, the process only took six to eight days, today it takes 50. The name stuck for who-knows-what-reason. The process is as follows:
a. Municipal Debates: member citizens of the contending party attend municipal hall debates among themselves on various issues. Typically, a Moderator is selected at all levels of the delegation week to check arguments for logical fallacies, but nothing more. The member voted winner of the debate becomes the party’s County Delegate for that municipality.
b. County Delegate Convention: the winning delegates from each municipality debate issues once more, first within their own parties then against other parties. Afterwards, a popular vote is held to determine the winner of the debates. The winners from each party go on to become Provincial Delegates representing their counties of residence.
c. Provincial Delegate Convention: all delegates now appear on a transferable ballot, with other choices being those who participated in the County Delegate Convention. Citizens are given ten (10) days to vote for and transfer their votes between the delegates. The winners from each party go on to become their party’s Federal Delegate for that province, and become official candidates for the Directorship of the Federal Occidental Union.

2) SUPER SIXTY
This is a sixty-day process, during which Federal Delegates travel the nation and make their cases for being selected as the sole candidate for the Directorship of the Federal Occidental Union originating from their party. This is by far the most competitive period, since no official candidate has become an undisputed nominee at this point. After the sixty day period, during which two transferable nationwide votes from within each party are cast, the winner from each party becomes the party’s official nominee for the Directorship of the Federal Occidental Union. At this point, the nominees may select their running mate, if they wish.

3) TRAIL DAYS 1-118
This time is the first phase of the official campaign for a nominee. They are allotted two days to make their case for election in each state, one for an appeal to their own party and another to appeal to the opposition and, if desired, schedule informal debates at later time. Federal civil investigations of nominees occur at this time. Any investigation resulting in a press of charges or a conviction must be abided by, even if that means the nominee must end their campaign.

4) TRAIL DAYS 119-145
This is the official final debate period. Once every nine days during this time, the nominees meet at an area selected on the April 10th of the previous year (if the previous year was a leap year, this selection is made on April 17th.) Nominees may also announce their prospective cabinet picks at this time, if they wish. If they do not and win the election, they may wait until January 5th of the next year to do so.

5) TRAIL DAYS 146-160
The final period of the campaign, during which the nominees make international appeals for support of their prospective administration. International travel is encouraged at this time as it is through the rest of the campaign, but all candidates must be within Union territory by 23:55 the night before the election begins.

In total, the campaign and election process lasts 307 days. The delegation process lasts 50 days, the nomination process lasts 60 days, the official campaign lasts 160 days and the general election lasts 7 days. The debate venue selection process lasts 30 days.
The typical schedule is as follows:
- Debate venue submission and selection: March 1st-March 31st (April 10th or 17th official selection)
- Delegation Week (March 31st-May 20th)
- Super Sixty (May 20th-July 19th)
- Official campaigns (July 19th-December 26th)
- General election (December 28th-January 5th of next year)
- Transition (January 5th-March 4th)
- Inauguration of new administration (March 5th)

THE ELECTION
Between December 28th and January 5th of the next year, all eligible citizens cast their transferrable ballots for Director of the Federal Occidental Union, subject to the following rules:
- Only official citizens or legal aliens in the final stage of the citizen process may vote.
- Citizens or qualifying legal aliens must be at least the age of majority in their province of domicile. If they do not know the age of majority, they must assume it is 18.
- Ballots may be transferred to other candidates within or without the citizen’s affiliate party between 00:01 on December 28th and 23:59 on January 4th.
- Winners of each round of voting will be announced at 06:30 the day after, and vote transfers will be counted then. In each round, lowest ranking individual is eliminated and votes given to citizens’ primary other choice. The final winner is selected Director of the Federal Occidental Union, and will take office on March 5th of that year after the transitional period has expired.

PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY
- Proof of FIN (Federal Identity Number) is required to vote. Qualifying legal aliens must present their RAIN (Resident Alien Identification Number) card or proof thereof. Proof of FIN/RAIN can be any one or combination of the following:
1) FIN/RAIN card
2) Certified birth certificate*
3) Certified federal check (voided)
4) MID (Military Identification**)
5) Provincial ID
6) Driver’s license/commercial driver’s license***
7) Federal aircraft operator license+
8. Federal Postal Service ID++

***all letter classes of license in this category are acceptable proof of FIN.
+Private/contractors licenses are also acceptable proof of FIN.

The President of the Republic is elected by an electoral college. The 162 Members of Parliament and the 625 Members of Local Governing Authorities are part of the Electoral College. An MP's vote counts as 5, while an MLGA's vote counts as 2. No member of the Electoral College is allowed to abstain. After the first ballot, if no candidate receives the necessary majority, currently 1,031 votes, than the candidate with the lowest votes received is eliminated and a new ballot is held. This process repeats itself until a candidate receives a majority.

The Speaker of Parliament is elected by plurality on the first day of each new assembly of Parliament. County Administrators and Mayors are elected by simple majority of the respective members of their Local Governing Authority.
