[] None of the above

Due to the infrequence, and the extreme crimes needed, for capital punishment, these methods of execution have been the same since Gotsborg's parliament was first instituted. It is considered to be highly honorable to be executed via firing squad individually with the full honors. The traditional method of this is three lines of 10 soldiers, for a total of 30. After a short ceremony of varying levels, the first line fires simultaneously on the executed with ceremonial standard issue rifles, then kneel, position their rifle by holding the front with their left hand and balance the back on the ground, and salute with the right hand, while the second fires and does the same, followed by the third who fire, reload, fire into the air, then salute without kneeling. Decapitation is less formal and considered dishonorable, only above mass execution which is usually done via firing squad, though this has not occurred since 1813.

2. Are prisoners informed of the execution date? No
3. Are family members informed of the execution date? No
4. Is the public informed of the execution date? If the Burgrave desires it to be a public execution they will usually be informed 12 hours prior.

For those who do not, as well as for rural prisons, professional executioners referred to as "relief executioners" will be assigned to serve a jurisdiction consisting of anywhere from 5-20 prisons. Relief executioners will visit each prison in their jurisdiction once per year, unless the prison does not have any death row prisoners awaiting execution.

This happens approximately 20-30% of the time, & if this is the case, the Oblast Government pays the executioner & then fines the family of the prisoner for lost revenue.

Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

A. GENERAL

1. Full nation name:
2. Type of government:
3. Which legal system is used? Check all that apply:
[] Common law
[] Civil law
[] Socialist law
[x] Religious law
[] Other:

4. Does capital punishment exist in law? Yes. There are two ways in which the sentence of death can be meted out upon an individual. The first is through the Sacrament of the Scale, under which a judge will prescribe a symmetrical, retaliatory harm upon the culprit on the same scale and sort as the harm they inflicted upon others. The most common example of this is murder, which under the Sacrament of the Scale usually means death. The second is through rikandas, a Belluvian term meaning "law [set] in stone". These are a series of static punishments prescribed for specific religious crimes. The punishment of death is meted out for the crimes of apostasy, heresy, lèse-majesté and treason under religious law.

5. Is capital punishment used in practice? Yes.

6. In what year was capital punishment abolished (if applicable)? N/A

7. In what year was the most recent execution? 2018 AF
8. On average, how many prisoners are executed per year? About five thousand to six thousand criminals are executed per year.
9. Which year had the most executions? 2006 AF, holding a record for 12,482 executions.

B. LEGISLATION

2. Which crimes have an optional death sentence? There are none.

3. Are death sentences decided by judges, juries, or both? Judges.

4. Can death sentences be appealed? Yes. Only the High Courts can issue a death penalty, but this can be overturned by the Supreme Court and the Sages. In addition, the Inquisition (which acts the prosecutor on behalf of the state for all capital punishment) can choose to withdraw the charges. This usually happens after new evidence comes to light proving the defendent to be innocent.

5. Does the leader have authority to veto a death sentence? Yes. The Caliph has final command over all decisions.

6. Can people under 18 be executed? Yes.
7. Can people over 65 be executed? Yes.
8. Can men be executed? Yes.
9. Can women be executed? Yes.
10. Can government officials be executed? Yes, even Sages.

2. Are prisoners informed of the execution date? In a manner of speaking. See above.
3. Are family members informed of the execution date? See above.
4. Is the public informed of the execution date? In the case of public or show exhibitions in which it is intended that the victim be made an example of, the public will usually be informed of the execution date about two weeks beforehand.
5. Are prisoners offered a last meal? No. Prisoners sentenced to death are seen almost as a type of undead - someone who is supposed to be dead, but isn't quite there yet. They are not thought to require gentle treatment, luxuries or food.
6. Which day of the week do most executions take place? Executions are equally likely to occur on any day of the week.
7. Are executions public or private? Executions are generally private, except in the case of very egregious offenders, who may be made an example of or put on public display as a deterrent.

13. Are prisoners blindfolded? No.
14. How are executioners selected? Executioners are culled from the ranks of law enforcement, especially those too injured to do field jobs any more.

1g. Immorality:
Most Belluvians are religious and support the harsh religious law.

2. What percentage of citizens oppose capital punishment for all crimes? 0%
3. Is capital punishment considered effective for reducing crime? Yes. It is thought that the grim and visceral nature of capital punishment will deter criminals.
