Is YN a democracy?

Postby Vescus (Ancient) » Mon Oct 24, 2016 5:42 am

Vescus is not a democracy. It is ruled by an emperor who is in blood relation to the last emperor and reigns until they die. However, free speech is a big deal here because we see all form of censorship and moderation of speech as a violation of free speech, and our emperor is open to suggestions. If you send him a letter, he'll handwrite the reply (just put "Emperor Blackman, Clarott, Vescus" and they'll deliver it A-OK). His replies often state that he either agrees (and why), or disagrees (and why). All democracy related questions go to his wife, Empress Blackman.
Welcome to Vescus, a capitalist nation famed for its incredibly tolerant and chilled out citizens, work ethic, efficiency that means public transport is always on time to the second, mining of asbestos, diversity, and openness towards refugees. The current year is 2037.

These below are indeed my political views
Pro: Anarchic-Capitalism, Using torture on prisoners, Gary Johnson, EU, Scottish Independence, Privatisation, Thatcher, Libertarianism, Cannabis legalisation, Immigration, LGBTQ+, Switzerland, Australia, Germany, The Netherlands, Singapore.
Anti: Left wing, prisoners getting the vote, Hillary, Free Healthcare, Corbyn, Communism, Authoritarianism, "Sin Tax", SJWs and third wave feminists, France, Russia.

Absolutely. Though the nation's people mostly think an anarchy would be even better, they just live instead in a minarchy very close to one, with almost complete individual and economic freedom.

Perhaps put more effort into a yes/no answer than simply saying yes/no?

Novayastrana is indeed democratic, however we are ultimately a Republic wherein the Rule of Law is tantamount, not the public will. We do have elections, we do have parties and many democratic institutions however we are not a democracy directly.

Legally yes, though only experts in CDS law are allowed to stand for election. Furthermore under High-Judge Richov the government has been heavily corrupted, politicians are controlled through bribery and blackmail and the Executive-judges and Provincial-Judges are each finally loyal to Richov.

Yes, explanation provided, Même si vous n'avez pas demandé

Postby Chadtonia » Mon Oct 24, 2016 1:55 pm

Chadtonia is a Federal Democratic Republic.

Although the terminology of "Federation" is a bit outmoded by contemporary standards of Chadtonia's governmental system, we will use the term herein merely for the sake of explaining the function of government in an understandable way, not to say that Chadtonia is a Federation in the traditional sense. That is to say, at least not every single absolute and concrete internal affair of Chadtonia's government functions precisely independently. This is due in large part to the way that Chadtonia's government operates its efficacy of law. Chadtonia is a *federation of several provinces, two colonies, and several other regions and territories under the Sovereignty of Chadtonia's republican form of government. The central government of the so-termed *federation of Chadtonia is the Federal Council, which is comprised of two Houses: , and serves as both The Head of Government and Head of State. The Federal Council is chaired by the President and Emperor in Effect, who is leader of both houses, whereas the Vice President is only leader of The Parliamentary House. As a Democracy Chadtonia is an extremely young Democracy, as it has only been an established Democracy for 16 years.

The area that Chadtonia differs in from many other countries is in the matter of how the Military, Federal Police force, and other agencies enforce law and engage in legislation. The Department of Diplomatic of Endeavors For Chadtonia is a private Defense Contractor hired by the government to enforce law, engage in legislation, apply citizenship and provide a noteworthy and impressive military, in order to defend and protect the rights of the Civility (i.e. law abiding citizens.) In such, The Department of Diplomatic of Endeavors For Chadtonia, is not a third branch of governement. The Department has been given a wide variety of avenues in which to aid in the production and development of government functions, however, the Department does not have legal authority to make law, except under one particular extremely unlikely scenario. This one exception is a more recent development and is a controversial and debatable topic among the voting public.

How Does Voting Work In Chadtonia?

Any legal Citizen of Chadtonia (this includes all provinces, territories, regions, and colonies), who is of the legal voting age of 18 or older may vote for any position within the Federal Council.

How is a Chadtonian Presidential Candidate selected?

The Federal Council Appoints at least two, no more than three candidates from within the Federal Council. There is at least 1 from each of the two respective houses. There may be an additional third candidate selected from either House. This candidate must be at least 18 years of age (the tragedy with President Clayton Deylanna was the primary motive to change the age from 13 to 18) and an outstanding member of the Federal Council with honorable traits, integrity, and great trust in the hope of Chadtonia's glorious future as predicted by the gods. The current Chairperson (that is, to say, the President) determines prederminately whether the vote will be only two or three candidates no sooner than January 2nd and no later than Februray 1st of the election year. Once the number of seats for candidacy is determined, the Chair makes a submission request to the Department of the Diplomatic Endeavors for Chadtonia. After the submission is made, the Department reviews the records of servitude and does an extensive 1 week analysis to determine the likelihood of which members of each of the two houses would be more widely respected by the Civility. The department chooses 10 members of each House, and sends the submission back to the Chair. The Chair reveals the submission to each House. Whomever is selected is allowed to decline candidacy. If the person is not physically present, they are presumed declined. Whichever candidates remain fill the 2 or 3 spots, by a 2/3 majority vote of the houses co-joined no later than March 1st pf the election year. Once the 2 or 3 candidates for Presidency are determined, The Campaign begins. However, Chadtonia's government is very strict on smear campaigns. In fact, smear cmapaigns are currently illegal in Chadtonia, and a Presidential Candidate could potentially suffer extreme consequences. So, the Presidential Candidate is basically stringently forced by law to focus merely on his/her own character and/or political ideal/agenda. The general populace is made aware via various media forms controlled and operated by the Department of Diplomatic Endeavours for Chadtonia no later than April 1st. The National Day of Voting, is now a national holiday, and a person may legally take the day off work whether they vote or not if they so choose, except for those who are working under the voting system. A person goes to a local Vote Center and votes online using their 13 digit Citizen I.D. number and thumb print scanner, and computerized facial recognition and the vote is made!

*Note: The use of the word "Federation" is used here merely for the understanding of the reader, and does not denote . According to contemporary standards of Chadtonia's governmental system, Chadtonia is not a Federation, at least not entirely in the traditional sense of the term.

No. The political scientist to suggest anarchy to the Neo American South was not necessarily against democracy, but called it one of the lesser efficient forms of government that after a long time can become corrupted. The Neo American South is an anarchy, with the only democratic principles being in protected towns/cities as it is much less corrupt.

We've got a dictatorial democracy.
That means: We've got a lifelong leader as head of government and state, but the people can vote freely for whatever party they want at the elections, so they can, e.g. put in an entirely new government (except for the Leader, who is until his death the same), that have also a heavy say in the legislature/executive.

We've done away with all that while still maintaining very good civil rights.
Political rights though? Nah.
