Social Democratic Party
A far left-wing party created from the remnants of the old Longhorn Communist Party, which collapsed amidst allegations of widespread corruption. Their platform includes nationalization of industry, higher taxes for the wealthy, and increased tariffs on international trade.
General's Party
The General's Party was founded by General Ira Deacon at the height of his popularity after the Red River War. Their ideology is generally centrist, although their policies are considered right leaning.
Christian Party
Left leaning centrists. They're largely considered a joke due to their limp-wristed policies, and are often derided as the 'Kinda-Sorta' Party.
Open Range Party
One of the oldest parties in Great Longhorn, the Open Range Party has faced shrinking popularity in recent years due to a number of political scandals associated with them. Their ideology is libertarian, supporting small government and big business.
Fascist Party of Great Longhorn
The Fascist Party is often criticized for its explicit support of the autocratic Empire of Mexico. Despite their vehement condemnation of socialism, their platform is almost identical to that of the Social Democrats.

Senpai United Party: It is the ruling party and occupies about 61% of the seats in the National Assembly. It is the greatest party of our time and has been a solid foundation in the social formation of our country. The motto is "Senpai needs to notice us". It was founded by the former high school yandere Mika Azumiya in man to his great unrequited love.

Weabbo League of the Rising Sun: Represents 24% of the Assembly seats. And the opposition party to the government. It is a party involved in many controversies as its inceptive to vice, social ostracism and extreme violence. The founder, Kawazaki Hideki, is famous for having crises and outbreak, but he is a smart leader. The league motto is "2D Up 3D"

Suzumiya National-Bolshevism Party: It represents 12% of the seats and is a strong ally of the League. Famed for its prejudiced policies led by Suzumiya, known as the "Goddess", had its importance in forming Otakucracy, but had civil rights problems.

Communist-liberalist Party of Madness Esoterica Materialist: I know popularly as "ESOMAT", has only 3% of the seats. It is a party with innumerable hybrid ideologies and that is neither of the governing side nor opposition and tries to create a rupture to Otakucracy. Led by Dr. Akira Musumeta who dreams of building a "transcendent state of material and limits not only for otakus, but for non-otakus"

Postby Alizeria » Sun Feb 26, 2017 10:37 pm

For most of its history, Alizeria has been a two-party system consisting of the Liberal Party and the Conservative Party.

In recent times two new populist parties have sprung up, mostly in protest at the unpopular freemarket reforms being carried out by both of the two old parties, and the two new parties threaten to do significant electoral damage to the old parties at the next election.

Conservative Party
Leader: Rt. Hon. Jennifer Dixon MP
Ideology: Christian democracy, Conservatism, Christian socialism
Position: Centre to Centre-left
Seats in Parliament: 99/160

The Conservative Party was founded in 1896 as a merger between the Tory Party and the Labour Party - who were both concerned by the rise of the new capitalist industrial class. Unlike other conservative parties, it is generally considered centre-left, and its legacy includes the establishment of the welfare state. Officially the party is a Christian Socialist party and combined social conservatism with left-wing economics.

The Conservative Party won a landslide victory in 2016, following the highly unpopular freemarket reforms of the Liberal government (known as "Ashtonomics") as well as a number of scandals involving senior government ministers in the Liberal Party (including a sex scandal that forced Prime Minister Anthony Ashton to resign).

However, under Jennifer Dixon - the country's first female Prime Minister - the Conservatives were seen to renege on their promise to end the freemarket reforms and themselves embarked on an agenda which included deregulation, budget cuts and privatisation, leading to prominent Conservative MP Izzy Yahweh to form the breakaway National Party.

Liberal Party:
Leader: Rt. Hon. Michael Neilson MP
Ideology: Classical liberalism, social liberalism
Position: Centre-right
Seats in Parliament: 59/160

The Liberal Party is Alizeria's oldest political party, having been founded in 1871. Among its historical achievements it lists the Constitution Act of 1912 (which formally limited the powers of the Monarch), universal suffrage and the abolishment of the death penalty.

The party is generally a classically liberal party with a mostly urban, middle class support base, and has a libertarian faction within the party.

Most recently in government, it embarked on a number of extremely unpopular freemarket reforms, including the abolishment of all tariffs, cuts to welfare and education, tax cuts for the rich and the privatisation of key government assets.

Although currently the main opposition party, polls show it to be in serious trouble and at risk of falling behind the new Left Alliance in terms of popularity.

Left Alliance
Leader: Harry Fitzgerald MP
Ideology: Democratic socialism, Environmentalism, Feminism
Position: Left-wing
Seats in Parliament: 1/160

The Left Alliance is actually a grouping of several smaller political parties who contest elections under one umbrella and with broadly similar goals. Parties that make up the Left Alliance include the Green Party (of which party leader and only MP Harry Fitzgerald is a member), the Alizerian Socialist Party, the Social Credit League and the Alizerian Feminist Collective.

The party is strongly socially liberal and very left-wing economically, advocating for the nationalisation of key resources, large tax increases on the rich, a stronger social safety net including free tertiary education and general opposition to recent freemarket reforms in Alizeria.

Although it currently has one seat in Parliament, won by Harry Fitzgerald in 2015 when he contested as a Green Party candidate, nationwide polls have shown a considerable swing towards the Left Alliance, and it has been suggested that they may even overtake the Liberal Party in the next election.

National Party:
Leader: Hon. Isaiah "Izzy" Yahweh MP
Ideology: Nationalism, Populism
Position: Disputed (see below)
Seats in Parliament: 1/160

The National Party was formed by charismatic Jewish MP Izzy Yahweh, the former Foreign Secretary under Jennifer Dixon who quit the Conservative Party in protest at the government's broken election promises.

It's position on the left-right political spectrum is disputed, with Yahweh claiming the party to be centrist, while commentators have called it right-wing. While the party strongly opposes the recent freemarket reforms of the Liberal and Conservative governments, it favours reducing the size of the House of Peasants to 100 MPs and abolishing the House of Nobles and House of Clergy. The National Party also favours direct democracy.

The party is strongly conservative (Izzy Yahweh is considered a protege of former Prime Minister Sir Edward Vermile), and opposes immigration - wanting to reinstate the old ban on Islam, supports re-criminalising homosexuality and has refused to deny that it would seek to reinstate the death penalty.

Izzy Yahweh is a polarising figure in Alizeria - and while his party is at only 8% in the polls, his personal popularity is above all other politicians, and he regularly tops polls of "Preferred Prime Minister". While his critics revile him as a supposed racist and homophobe, his supporters claim he is the only honest politician in the country and laud him for standing up to corruption, big business and for quitting the government over a matter of principle.

It's complicated.
Traditionally, there are two political factions in the Imperial Court: Corporatist-Paternalists and Concentric Populists. These are often regarded as the traditional "political parties" of the Sublime Empire, distinguished by different political philosophy, despite the lack of actual organized bodies or hierarchical structure. Other than these primary factions there are also one-issue factions such as the imperialist 'War Party' and the social Darwinist 'Eugenics Party'. Like the Paternalists and the Populists, these parties also lack coherent organization, being centered primarily among a select few of charismatic deputies who rallied support from others. Often these one-issue parties serve the interest of the lobbyist oligarchs, such as the infamous 'Steel Party' or the 'Tobacco Party'.

In 1871 CE, a political party was actually formed by the Emperor's own decree to promote the "unity of imperial peoples". Called the Imperial Resurgence Party (Dari: Rastāḵiz), the party is vehemently royalist and conservative, opposing nationalism, liberalism, and later in modern era agonocracy. It serves as a mouthpiece of the voices who influence the Peacock Throne and thus the Imperial Court. Bizarrely, while many deputies in the lower chamber of the Court are members of the Resurgence Party, the party itself resembles more a private think-tank, propaganda arm, as well as a charity organization rather than an actual political party, as it lacks means to produce any coherent platform beyond Imperial loyalty.

The Imperium, despite having no voting rights, has a parliament, which acts as a legislative body. Their primary job is to debate, draft, and send laws to the emperor, although it is ultimately the emperor's decision whether the law would be put into effect.

In the parliament, there are so-called political parties which represent its members' ideologies, although members with specific ideologies that cannot be catered can become independent crossbenchers. There are 300 seats in the House of Lords, and 650 seats in the House of Commons.

Conservative Party (His Majesty's Government)
The Conservative Party is the current ruling party of the Parliament, being the party with the most members. It has 138 seats in the House of Lords, and 361 seats in the House of Commons. It is led by the current Prime Minister, Duke Louis Anderson.

It has a centre-right ideology. It strongly believes in the Anglo-Saxon economic model, liberal conservatism, and the furthering of the empire's goals through military force. They support the empire's long standing policies of universal healthcare, free education, and flat income tax. They stand neutral on religious affairs, though their advocacy is mostly supported my the church.

Liberal Party (His Majesty's Most Loyal Opposition)
The Liberal Party is the current opposition party, having the second largest membership. It has 61 seats in the House of Lords, and 153 in the House of Commons. It is led by Viscountess Annabelle Edwards.

They have a classical liberal ideology. They support the legalisation of marijuana, laissez-faire economics, and decreased police and military. They are the only party in favour of seeking peace with our current enemies, the Ichor Coalition and the Galactic Federation, and establishing a defence-only military policy. They are neutral on religion.

Imperial Party
The Imperial Party is the resident reactionary party, and has the third most seats in Parliament. It has 28 seats in the House of Lords, and 41 in the House of Commons. It is led by Duchess Mary Elizabeth Nero.

They have a right-wing ideology, with some far-right elements. They advocate state capitalism, protectionism, and the dissolution of the Commonwealth of Nations and the reabsorption of its member states into the Empire. They support the abolition of universal healthcare, instead vying for government-issued basic insurance. They also support an increase in military spending, claiming "victory in [the Second Galactic War] must be our utmost priority". They believe the church must have a say in government affairs

Labour Party
The Labour Party is the resident socialist party of the Empire. It has 5 seats in the House of Lords, and 13 seats in the House of Commons. It is led by Baron Leo Savoy.

They have a leftist ideology. They advocate an increase in government-owned business, implementation of a progressive tax system, implementation of socialist economics, and the introduction of non-aristocrats into the House of Lords. They are also the only party explicitly calling for the limitation of the monarch's power, and to turn the empire into a Semi-Constitutional Monarchy. They call for complete state secularisation (ie. the removal of the Lords Spiritual and the removal of the official state religion).

Other Parties: (seats in House of Lords / seats in House of Commons)
Green Party: 2 / 6
Federal Union: 1 / 4
Constitutional Party: 1 / 2
Union for Supremacy and Fascism: 1 / 1
Crossbenchers: 37 / 69
Lords Spiritual (ceremonial): 26 / 0

In the current first election (link is in my signature), following parties are running:

Leonorian Democratic Union
The LDU (LDS in Czech) formerly was the Leonorian Red Force, a socialist rebel organization fighting the Old Regime. After the 2016 coup, leader Katharina Polak took over power and passed a load of reforms, also making the LRF more democratic. The LDU classifies itself as Democratic Socialist.

Communist Coalition of the Leonorian Federation
The KKLF is a split-off party consisting of the range from center-leftism to hardcore communism. Presider is Janine Keutner. Although the KKLF recognizes democracy as the necessary system for the Leonorian Federation, they don't consider it a main value of their ideology.

Leonorian Green Party
The LGP (LZS in Czech) was founded after the 2016 December Constitution got passed. The range goes from liberal green to hardcore environmentalist. Party leader Lotte Pawelke was to bring as many Green policies as possible into the new Leonorian government.

Leonorian Liberal Coalition
The LLK mostly has right-liberal views, though, also more nationalist politicians can be found. Presider of the LLK is Radoslav Slanina, who currently has the best chances for chancellorship apart from Katharina Polak (and will be a very notable opposition leader in case a left-wing coalition wins).

National Meritocratic Party
The NMPLF (NMSLF in Czech) is a relic of the Old Regime. It was re-founded after the constitution got passed, as the direct successor of the National Meritocratic Unity Party of the Leonorian Free State. Party leader Friedrich Schlesinger was an independence fighter in the 1970s and a devout nationalist under the regimes of Kratký and Morgenthau during the whole existence of the LFS.

Following the most recent elections, five parties are represented in the House of Assembly:
  • Front for New Democracy (FND), centre-left social democrats
  • People's Party of Oneracon (PPO), third way centrists
  • Rainbow Party (RBW), social libertarian queer nationalists
  • Citizens for Environmental Welfare (CEW), green centrists
  • Communist Party of Oneracon (CPO), Marxists
The current government is a FND-RBW coalition, led by FND leader Celine Smith as Prime Minister, with the PPO under Timothy Robinson in opposition. The CEW and CPO also sit in opposition, but they are not in a coalition with PPO and will support the government on occasion.

In short:
  • United Conservative Party (UCP) - conservatism. Formed from the ashes of the Conservative Union in 1959, after the Communist takeover.
  • Social Democratic List (SDL) - social democracy to liberalism. Formed from the ashes of the Left and Labour Party in 1959, after the Communist takeover.
  • Tinhamptonian Libertarian Party (TLP) - libertarianism. Has ridden off the UKIP wave plus a desire for personal freedoms (and threats to then-Mayor Lydia Anderson's job), even if seemingly briefly. Splintered from the UCP in 1994, with three AMs.
  • Free Democratic Party (FDP) - centrism. Formed from the ashes of the Democratic Party in 1959, after the Communist takeover.
  • Green-Environmentalist Party (G-EP) - environmentalism. A merger between the two fledgling green parties of the time, the Green Party and the Environmentalist Party (independent and a SDL splinter respectively), in 1977.
  • Equal Rights Party (ERP) - feminism. Formed in 1969.
  • Solidarity with Immigrants Party - pro-immigration. Splintered from the SDL in 1989, with two AMs.
  • Humanist and Secularist Party (HSP) - secularism. Formed in 1979.
  • Seriously Serious Party (SSP) - joke party. Formed in 1983.
  • Tinhampton First Party (T1P) - far-right, pro-religion. Splintered from the UCP in 1968, with four AMs.
  • the Miners' Party (MP) - miners' interests. Formed in 1974.
  • the Pirate Party (PP) - typical pirate party, mainly libertarian-leaning on the internet. Formed in 2005.
  • Death to the State (DEATS) - ancom party; some have questioned as to whether they are a joke party. Formed in 1984.
  • Smaller/single-issue parties - Concerned Families Party (2001-date), Fluoride-Free Tinhampton (1994-date), Reparations Party (most controversially; never won a seat; 1989-1997), International Focus Party (IntFed; 1963-2015), Tinhampton Union of Sovereignty (NatSov; 1965-date; still exists but only garners about a hundred votes or so every year, despite claiming a seat in 2013), etc.
In addition, there have been several defunct parties. To name two of the more notable: The Christian Democratic Party (led by Celia Bauer) attempted to present itself as a hybrid of T1P's religious focus and UCP's mild conservatism, and did see success in the late 80s and early 90s (to the extent where Bauer was even awarded the job of Minister for Business Standards back in '92), but the party jumped ship to the main UCP in 1994.
Meanwhile, KUMBAYA! was a more harmony-focused party whose ultimate aim was to integrate Tinhampton with the (old) United Nations to enjoy "global harmonised standards", but was exposed after then-Education Secretary Lydia Anderson ordered an investigation into the party's infiltration of schools in May 2002 (which led to St. Margaret's Catholic School, Anderson's alma mater, to declare independence from Tinhampton for two weeks in protest); the party was forcibly dissolved in October, but not proscribed.
The Self-Administrative City of TINHAMPTON (pop. 329,537): Saffron Howard, Mayor (UCP); Alexander Smith, WA Delegate-Ambassador
