The only political party in Novaya is the Enlightened Socialist Novayan Workers' Party, a fascist party that advocates the destruction of racial separatism (through fascist police actions) and the enforcement of conformity. The ESNWP supported the following: a free market economy; a strong, powerful, advanced and large military; education focused on historical and scientific affairs, population policy, and fitness for military service; and law enforcement (to destroy racism). The ESNWP outlawed Nazism, Bolshevism and Juche due to the fact that they were considered extreme. Despite being a fascist party, the ESNWP was, in Borealis' words, cool with religions (the major religion is Christianity).

There is only one party in our People's Republic we don't need another since it is the only one which represents the interests of the toiling masses. Forged in the fires of the Revolution it's name will forever echo through history the Unified Communist Party of the Working People will lead our country to the consolidation of socialism and to the creation of a communist society.

We are a multi-party system here. The ruling party is the Polish People's Party. They are center-right Christian democrats in the spirit of Lech Walesa. They are in a governing coalition with the Real Politics Union, which is a conservative libertarian party. The opposition party is the socialist Labour Union. They are not popular because of Poland's terrible history under socialism.

The Colony has no political parties; every political candidate is given a sum of money to campaign with (using your own resources to campaign is illegal) and left to stand on their own merits and policies.

The Communist Party is the only party allowed to actually govern, but other parties are legal and we have a parliament.

We have nine major parties - here they are with their ideologies:

- Communist Party (only one allowed to govern): Libertarian Socialism, Technocentrism, Transhumanism, Trade Unionism, Workers' rights
- Agrarian Party: Agrarianism
- Libertarian Party: Libertarianism
- Socialist Party: Market Socialism, State Capitalism, Nordic model Socialism
- Conservative Party: Conservatism (largely ignored)
- Pirate Party: Youth rights
- Liberal Party: Liberalism
- Progressive Party: Progressivism
- Green Party: Green politics, Environmentalism

There are a few other smaller parties, but they're not important enough to mention.

The political system of Carolina is proportional representation system; you vote for candidates in a numbered list of favorite to least favorite, and then as the lowest ranking candidate is dropped from the list, their votes are then counted towards the voter's next highest rated candidate. However, unlike other nations which only vote for a national ruling party, in Carolina, each voting year a voter selects both a regional party and a national party. A regional party is the party that represents a Autonomous Republic, of which there are three, while a national party looks over the nation as a whole.

The order of the party systems is like a ladder; minor regional parties must gain support (at least 5% of the popular vote) from the Autonomous Republic as a whole to become major regional parties, which must then gain at least 25% of the popular vote in that republic to be able to apply as a national party.

There are currently 6 registered national parties, ordered by number of representatives, of which there are 396 total counted from 24 states.

Image

Name: North American Libertarian Party
Motto: "One North America for the People."
Ideology: Libertarianism, social democracy, free-market and Keynesian economics.
Support base: Lower middle and upper class, capitalists, libertarians, social democrats.
Number of Representatives: 252/396

The current leading party of the Federation, they have existed in some form or another since the founding of the country. The only majorly successful libertarian party in history, their reign as most popular party has seen the Carolina economy skyrocket as well as maintaining extensive civil and political rights. They also attract many different voters across the spectrum, which has helped to keep them in office for decades.

Image

Name: Democratic Progressive Party
Motto: "Leading Carolina Forward"
Ideology: Progressiveness, centrism.
Support base: Middle and upper class, liberals, centrists, progressives, capitalists.
Number of Representatives: 88/396

Formed in 2065 as a result in a split from the NALP, the Democratic Progressive Party was formed from a more conservative faction of the NALP which wanted to push the economic system to the right, while maintaining civil rights and curbing political power.

Image

Name: Party for Social Democracy
Motto: "Socialism under democracy."
Ideology: Democratic socialism, third-way, mixed economy.
Support base: Lower and middle class, democratic socialists.
Number of Representatives: 40/396

The third most popular party in the Federation also formed in a split from the NALP, though the PSD is more leftest than the NALP. They want an economic model similar to that of China in the early 21st century. They also want to see the individual states given more representation.

Image

Name: North American Green Party
Motto: "Earth always before anything else."
Ideology: Green policy, environmental sustainability, liberalism.
Support base: Environmentalists, middle and upper class, liberals.
Number of Representatives: 8/396

Probably the most popular green party in the world, they push for extensive environmental policy. Their influence has helped to push for alternative resources and curb fossil fuel use. As a result, most vehicles in Carolina are fully electric and polar cap preservation projects have succeeded in massively slowing the rate of polar melting.

Image

Name: American Socialist Coalition
Motto: "Workers Come Together for America!"
Ideology: "New American communism", Marxist-Leninist communism, libertarian socialism, market socialism.
Support base: Lower and middle class, communists, socialists, libertarians.
Number of Representatives: 5/396

Originally formed from a collection of smaller socialist and communist parties, the ASC has been seen in the past as "the west's Soviet party". Following a philosophy of what they call "New American communism", which states that American workers will lead a worldwide revolution based on American idealism, their goal is a purging of the capitalist economy for a fully socialist system.

Image

Name: National Popular Party
Motto: "North America always first!"
Ideology: Populism, far-right, neo-fascism, corporatism, nationalism.
Support base: Middle and upper class, fascists, nationalists.
Number of Representatives: 3/396

Seen as the most radical of the national parties, the NPP has only just barely held that status for a few decades. Looking to give the state full power over the economy and give businesses more say, they have been loosing voters for years and it's estimated that will be reduced to a regional party within the next decade.

Pro: Democracy, left-libertarianism, Keynesian economics, centrism, social democracy, free market, capitalism.
Neutral: Monarchism, conservatism, liberalism, socialism.
Anti: Totalitarianism, right-libertarianism, laissez-faire economics, fascism, communism, single-party state, state controlled economy.

Nosurian party politics have long been defined by coalitions of many parties, and by factionalism within broader parties. Additionally, candidates for political office stand for election first and foremost as individuals, rather than as members of parties. The election of non-partisan or independent candidates to political office or legislative seat is commonplace. In fact: religious, judicial, military, and Crown officials are legally barred from membership in any registered political party (note that there are many clubs, lodges, and associations in the country that have a particular political leaning and are active in political life, but are not registered "political parties" as such). All in all political parties are fairly weak institutions in Nosuria.

That being said, a majority in both chambers of Parliament (the National Assembly and the Senate) and of the Royal Diet (the House of Commons and the House of Lords) are loosely aligned in an informal coalition-of-coalitions referred to as the Grand Bloc. Grand Bloc member parties are generally aligned with the center-right and support HM the King's Government in their policies of environmentalism, moderate social conservatism, international isolationism, and mixed-market economics. Opposition parties/coalitions/blocs tend to favor broad policy changes; such as greater economic liberalization or socialization, greater or lesser promotion of societal progressiveness, or a change in foreign policy towards either greater internationalism or more militaristic expansionism.

Seven major parties:

Composition of the Great Veche, Venadia's national parliament

Two parties dominate national Venadian politics, those being the Socialist Party (centre-left, social-democrats) and the Liberal-Republican Party (centre-right, social-liberals). The two parties have dominated Venadian politics since the 1940s, although Venadia retains some prominent third-parties. The largest of these is the Unity Party (right-wing, national-conservatives) who sometimes are able to act as kingmaker in regional assemblies (despite being ideologically closer economically, the Socialist Party is closer to the Unity Party on other issues, so the Unity Party has traditionally never tied themselves to supporting either).

The White Venadian Autonomy Party (right-wing, regionalist) has grown in prominence and seek greater autonomy for the White Venadian minority in western Venadia, and on economical and social issues they tend to align with conservatives. They are reputed to have links with armed separatist groups in White Venadia, although publically refute these allegations. The Communist Party of Venadia (left-wing, democratic socialists) have seen a resurgence in recent years, re-entering parliament under the leadership of Aleksandr Myatlev. The CPV used to be a prominent Leninist party, but over the years its popularity and radicalness diminished, although the former has seen a recent upturn. As a counterweight we have the National Party (far-right, nationalists) a recently formed merger of the Patriotic Party and Greater Venadia Party, who are labelled as neofascist, ultranationalist and skinheads by detractors, and as patriots and traditionalists by supporters. Their overall support has been fairly stagnant in recent years, and their influence on national or regional politics is low due to the unwillingness of other parties to cooperate with them.

A relatively recent entry in Venadian politics is the Civil Rights Party (centrist/centre-left, liberals), originally formed as a split from the Socialist Party in 2004 over civil rights issues, the CRP has come to represent a wide variety of minority groups. The party champions the rights of the LGBT community, ethnic minorities, gender minorities and so on with a focus on environmentalism, animal rights and social justice coming second. Economically, the party has come to represent a middle ground between the Socialist Party and the Liberal-Republican Party, and they are speculated to maybe one day take the Unity Party's role as a kingmaker if their growth continues. Barely represented in parliament, we have the Apalkovist Union (far-left, anarchists) who contest elections on a largely abstentionist basis. The Apalkovists mainly holds sway in southern Venadia, particularly in the Proylopol Volost, where their anarchist cells function as the de facto system of local 'governance'. They rarely manage to make the national electoral threshold for free deputy seats in parliament, but they often manage to win constituencies in the south. The last election was a disaster for them in this regard, going from three deputies to just the one (who has shown up a grand total of three times since his first 'entering' parliament in 2011).

Also in parliament is a wide variety of Independents who for the most part are without a party and focused on single-issues.

Of the parties not represented on the national level, Venadia has several important on the regional or local level. The most prominent of these are the Union of Nationalities (minority rights), a union of more than a dozen political parties who seek to represent various national minorities in Venadia. The UoN have yet to contest a national election, as they only formed in spring of 2016, and in terms of ideology the constituent parties range from the left-wing to the right-wing, and from liberal to very conservative on social issues. The sole thing uniting them is a greater degree of autonomy for minority-majority areas. The Islamic Alliance (centre-right, islamic democrats) were in the 2015 legislative election the largest political party not to gain a seat in parliament, with 1.1% of the party list votes. It largely operates in Islamic areas of Venadia among national minorities such as the Undreshi and Boldirians, and manages to attain between 10% and 20% of the muslim vote in most elections it contests. It is socially conservative and economically third-way. The Federal Party (centre-right, federalists) were the second-largest non-parliamentary party, whose main issue revolves around the federalization of Venadia. Economically the party is classically liberal, and in general they want to see state authority curtailed. An interesting thing to mention is that both the Islamic Alliance and the Federal Party received more votes than the Apalkovist Union, but the AU managed to achieve a clear majority in a single constituency.

The Democratic Party (right-wing, populists) is another relatively prominent minor party, formed in 2001. The party combines a hodgepodge of liberal economics, xenophobia and patriotism to attract support, and have gained representation in three out of Venadia's 31 primary administrative divisions. The party is still growing, and are expected to enter parliament in 2019. Finally, there's the Green Party (left-wing, eco-socialists) who were represented in parliament in the 2011-2015 period with a single deputy. The party advocates the dissolution of Venadia's oil industry and preservation of Venadia's wilderness and wildlife. They have, however, seen their support wane in favour of the ascendant Civil Rights Party in the past decade.

Outside of these parties, Venadia has dozens upon dozens of small parties (all the above mentioned gained at least 0.5% in the 2015 elections). Parties that gained between 0.1% and 0.5% in 2015 are, by order of relative popularity, the Libertarian Party (right-libertarians), the Vesan Party (centre-right, minority rights, now in the Union of Nationalities), the Worker's Party (marxist-leninists), the Undreshi Socialist Party (democratic socialists, now in the UoN), the Republican Party of Boldiria (centrist, now in the UoN), the Undreshi Popular Front (conservatives, now in the UoN), the Somerian People's Party (liberals/agrarians, now in the UoN), the Jewish Party (social-democrats, now in the UoN), the Christian Democratic Party (right-wing, christian conservatives) and the Aljet National Party (centre-right, now in the UoN). Additionally, 42 more parties contested then 2015 election, but failed to even attain 0.1% of the national vote.

So, we got loads and loads of political parties, but only a handful of which are remotely relevant.

The Kaiser-Präsident is elected in a hexennial election, while the unicameral Reichstag is elected in a triennial one, with every second one coinciding with the presidential election. Reichstag elections are proportionally representative ones, and both elections use an instant-runoff system.

The political Parties of Freidenkreich, from Left to Right:

Kommunistische Partei Freidenkreichs - KPF

The resident Communist Party. The country handles capitalism well, so there are very few communists, and even the proportional representation system couldn't help this party from getting a meager 8 seats, and that's after some of the SDP's members turned radical.

Die Grüne

The "Greens" are a progressive party consisting largely of minority groups, SJWs, vegans and the like. They were ridiculed OFFICIALLY by the Government in 2012 for their useless and made-up issues. You should've been there, the Kaiser-Präsident and his entire cabinet laughed for several minutes straight on television. The Greens are now almost powerless.

Sozialdemokratischen Partei - SDP - A social-democratic party advocating redistribution, big government and welfare. They were the most prominent party during the "Scandinavization" of 1992-2010. After a humbling defeat in 2010, their work was undone in the first three years of their absence from power. They lost even more seats in the 2013 and 2016 Reichstag elections.

Das Zentrum

A centrist party. Advocates for a medium-sized but centralized government, a mixed Keynesian economy and light border regulations. Das Zentrum It has played the role of the main opposition to the Social-Democrats in the past, but failed due to being pretty damn boring.

Die Freiheitskämpferliga - FKL

This party's name translates to "Freedom Fighters' League", but actually just means "The Libertarians". The party was created for the 2001 Reichstag elections to try and replace Das Zentrum as the opposition to SPD hegemony. The work of party member Friedrich Stahlberg, now known as Kaiser-Präsident Friedrich IV, has lead it to victory in 2010, annihilating the SPD and quickly throwing the "Scandinavization" out the window of the Kaiser-Präsident's office. The party platform demands more rights for local governments, less bureaucracy and spending in general, pouring the tax money which remained after the tax cuts into education, science and healthcare as well as less regulations on almost everything.

Nationalen Republikanischen Partei - NRP

The National-Republican Party, also known as the "Republicans", are a curious bunch. They hate the SPD's guts, and were forced to reduce the radicality of their platform to gain more seats. They are in the ruling coalition with the FKL. They aim for less immigration and less international action, and are also the most economically-right party in Freidenkreich. Capitalism only survived until the coming of the FKL because of them.

Nationale Arbeiterpartei Freidenkreichs - NAPF

They are Fascists. Rather agreeable fascists, but fascists nonetheless. They had decent results in 2010 and 2013 due to the growing resentment of the SPD and the Greens, to which end the NAPF promised to ban them. In 2016, however, they failed because the "Scandinavization" is no longer a threat.

The Social Democratic Party, the People's Party, and the Conservative Party are the three main political parties with seats in Parliament.

President Jane North is a member of the Social Democratic Party, but the majority party in Parliament is the Conservative Party, along with the Vice President (also styled Prime Minister).

The Social Democratic Party tends to be economically and socially progressive, supporting strong government programs to advance positive and negative rights and uphold social justice. The Social Democratic Party has the greatest support in northern Winderton, particularly the territory of Jancier, and urban areas.

The People's Party is similarly economically liberal, but is socially conservative. It strongly supports national infrastructure and economic development projects and opposes free trade agreements but generally not international trade itself. It has the strongest support in certain rural areas, particularly the far north of Winderton.

The Conservative Party supports more partnerships between the government and business sectors, opposes large expansions of government spending, and is strongly supportive of free trade. The Conservative Party generally maintains moderately progressive positions on most social issues. It has the strongest support in southern Winderton and certain suburban areas, but also has broader support in rural areas.

The party positions on current major issues:

Energy policy
Social Democrat: Support construction of renewable energy power stations to replace Spring Hill Coal Station
People's Party: Oppose closing of coal stations, support government subsidies and protections for northern coal mines
Conservative: Maintain Spring Hill Coal Station, but construct pollution-mitigating technologies where possible. Develop renewable energy stations on a local scale where possible, but maintain that renewable energy is currently not possible on a large, national scale

Free trade
Social Democrat: Support
People's Party: Generally oppose unless it has concessions for national industries
Conservative: Support

Alcohol prohibition
Social Democrat: Divided; Most support maintaining prohibition, but there is limited support for legalization at a given adult age (most likely 20). The party opposes severe criminal punishment for use or possession
People's Party: Legalize alcohol at age 20, increase punishments for alcohol violations
Conservative: Divided; Most support maintaining prohibition

Name: Mavillkushi Worker's Party
Leader: Phann Phirum
Ideology: Mavillkushi nationalism, authoritarianism, Phirumism
Representation: 160/160
Colors: yellow, red

The sole legal party in United Mavillkush, the Mavillkushi Worker's Party's supporter base consists mainly of radical nationalists, Phann Phirum's followers, and brainwashed robots, among others. All other parties are banned and the MWP has been criticized for their tactics to hold onto power.

Political parties are rare and rather strange, considering the consensus-based framework of the OBAUAC. Political parties that have existed include:

Liberal Party, nicknamed 'Whigs', a group of right-wing libertarians hoping to bring capitalist property law into the country

Majority Labor Coalition, a Marxist-Leninist group that mostly role-plays with rusty Mosins

The Foundation for Organic Society, a social conservative group that seems to lie midway between Benjamin Disraeli and Charles Maurras -- suspecting of having fascist leanings and members, watched closely
When reading my nation description, replace 'state' with 'One Big Union'

An injury to one is an injury to all

After the Börkistani Revolution, all the Swedish left-wing political parties were merged into one single party: the Börkistani International Workers United Party. All the right-wing parties were outlawed.
