Okay, okay, okay guys. Play nice.
Now the stars they are all angled wrong,
And the sun and the moon refuse to burn.
But I remember a message,
In a demon's hand:
"Dread the passage of Jesus, for he does not return."

I suspect there is some kind of discrimination against TV screens :eyebrow:

Perhaps a flag that is less "busy" would cause less confusion?

If you forgive the criticism, I'd say you need one with less going on in it, a lot more simplified. And perhaps a higher resolution or something, as the boxes look a bit blurred. I think it might potentially have something to do with the yellow and white lying next to each other.

OOC: I would have to disagree with that. I think flags should be simple, so I don't like it because it has too many colours. You would have to admit that kind of does make the flag look like a TV test pattern, regardless of what it actually represent. But I guess it's not okay to like some-one else's explaination better anymore, as it gets one or two players upset. I can't help but laugh at the idea of this being enforced in "rate the flag above you" and other F7 threads.

I personally believe that the player behind "New Kalasparata" is going a bit far, but people shouldn't let a simple mis-interpretation of their flag get to them like that.

I don't know where all these people got their ideas but my flag has nothing to do with any of them!

Nor does it have anything to do with Kalasparata, so do not assume such things so quickly.

What it looks like, to me, seriously, is two-thirds of a Russian flag, with a random sprinkling of colours and tones pasted over the top third, with little heed paid to the traditional rules of heraldry and vexillology, as well as a flag designed by a focus group/committee to represent everyone.

Sexual and gender quality are represented by three colours each? Isn't the whole point about equality that you can use one colour, symbol, etc to represent everything that's equal? South Africa's RL flag is a perfect example of how to do this properly.

Dodgy blurry jpg upscaling (from the tiny original) and cross centering mis-alignment on the top third notwithstanding.

EDIT:

Tagmatium wrote:I think it might potentially have something to do with the yellow and white lying next to each other.

Jpgs save the picture information in rows (i.e. horizontally). They're very good at compressing definition between horizontal stripes, and awful at compressing vertical ones. A barcode, for instance, on its side will save to a much smaller, and better quality, jpg than a regular-way-up barcode.

[float=right]Image[/float] So, with Kalasparata's original size flag (right) being so small, when the jpg is upsized to forum standard, it gets the definition between the squares in the top row all wrong, while keeping the definition line between blue and red perfect. Re-doing it at the same dimensions as used on the forums would be better (assuming you can compress it to the correct size without damaging the quality too much).

Though I'm still shuddering at the use of the two metals next to each other in the top third :p

Good lord, that's a vexillological atrocity. Give me an hour, I'll get you something with as much meaning, but far, far easier on the eye.

EDIT: And here we are!

Image

At the hoist, the green and burgundy quarters represent the provinces of Shimarata and Kalaspia, and the cross represents these two provinces united not only under one sky, but under a single faith.

The five stripes represent the natural beauty of Kalasparata: the warming sun (yellow/or), the fertile soil (black/sable), the frozen tundra (white/azure), the barren deserts (red/gules), and the nation's rivers and lakes (blue/azure). The equal lengths and widths of these stripes signify the equality of the nation's people.
