Anime was approved by the Department of Media and Censorship in the late 90's. Introducing this new genre to the public proved to be extremely positive, as citizens would flock to stores, government hosted gatherings, and anywhere else with a television just to watch their favorite anime. The genre is considered to be a sign of Orrostriska's slow drift to capitalism. However, while Anime is popular and enjoyed by many, Hentai is strictly looked down on. while it is not outlawed, a person who watches hentai is considered to be a public offender and is often shunned.

my country sells abroad a specialized type of anime, usually adult rated. our anime focuses on modern fighting, however, not fantasy or medieval. so, anime but with more guns, cuss words, and nudity.

We have our own style of animation - inspired mainly by Japanese anime, Western cartoons, and traditional Indian and Chinese art - called kalagati, a mishmash of the Hindi words for "motion" and "art." Kalagati is even more ubiquitous and popular here than anime is in Japan, and it's widely consumed by all demographics. We do watch and appreciate foreign animation as well, including Western cartoons and (getting back to the thread title) Japanese anime, although it's nowhere near kalagati in terms of popularity.

Animé is really popular here. Even the queen loves animé, growing up with the likes of Evangelion, Pokémon and Cowboy Bebop.
Uses certain NS stats.

Atlantis is an MT nation that is the third richest country in the world, behind only China and the United States. It is closer to the USA, UK, Italy and Spain (in that order, though Italy and Spain is probably tied) culturally than it is Greece. It is also a naval power.

And no, Atlantis is not underwater: It has a land area around the size of France.

Pros: Classical liberalism, democracy, the West, Brexit, Viktor Orban, free education, strong military
Cons: Authoritarianism, fascism, communism, multiculturalism, Islamism

Legal but viewed critically by the state and most citizens. Anime is mostly used mostly as a critique of Japanese (and by extension, captialist) culture. While much of the artistic and stylistic form of anime is worthy of study, the social commentary, cynicism, and increasing levels of and tolerance of degeneracy therein often leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of most Furonese. Most of Furonese prefer the form, but believe our nation can produce better substance.

Japanese animation has little that distinguishes it from Versilian animation.
Anime and Anehmey (Versilian animation) hold incredibly similar art styles, though are frequently more adult.

In short, incredibly popular.

In a recent poll given by the National Statistic Agency, 90% of H Landians prefer anime over domestically made cartoon/ animation. The group also comment on the question, saying: " We prefer anime over normal cartoon, but we still and will help the country's hard working animators by buy a few products from them whenever possible." Mean while, the other 10% percent of H Landians says that they are still unsure whether they like local animation or imported anime.

Anime is seen as "weird Oriental cartoons of peculiar nature" that's very foreign to Zartobanian audiences. As a result, anime is not particularly popular here.

Postby Kraicia » Thu Nov 23, 2017 2:32 am

For a while, anime had been banned in Kraicia due to the controversy regarding sexism and ‘unacceptable choices of clothing’, especially Sailor Moon in the 1990s. Kraician has a long history of Christian traditionalism, which has been the hotspot for many European holidays (e.g. Christmas), fashion design, music, films, and other cultural practices usually accepted in other western countries. For instance, Hollywood and many other US film companies had been fiercely banned from doing business in Kraicia, since Kraician conservatives and christians alike (whom comprised much of the population demographics as of the 1930s) complained that US films are deemed ‘flamboyant’ and ‘sexist’.

So it came to no surprise that Kraicia would ban Japanese mangas in the 1970s and 80s, due to the mangas containing ‘Demonic’ and ‘Sexist’ content - offences that go against Kraicia’s traditional Christian culture and population. It wouldn’t be until the introduction of the internet in the mid-1990s that the ban on anime began to fall apart, especially when the next generation of Kraician citizens were slowly turning away from the venerable Christian teachings and practices among Kraician culture. Eventually, in 2002, that the Kraician government finally lifted the ban and repealed most of the censorship imposed upon English subtitles for anime films and mangas introduced through the internet.

Unfortunately, Kraicia’s unique culture landed the country into an awkward spot. Unlike other English-speaking countries, Kraicia had its own kind of English (Kraician English), which made it tricky for Kraician film and animation industries to translate anime already containing English subtitles - specifically US and Commonwealth English. Words that were normally found in ordinary English did not exist in Kraician English, so animes that contained subtitles and dub had to be redone all over again when imported to Kraicia.

Even the US web show, RWBY, had to be spoken by Kraician voice actors when it was imported to Kraicia. Rooster Teeth and its Kraician counterpart - Harkinsayer - had nearly been caught in what could’ve been an international lawsuit and copyright violation...had Harkinsayer not mentioned Kraician culture and the English spoken Kraicia. Monty Oum was more than understanding to this problem; however, the rest of the staff (including a disgruntled Gavin Free) were slow to forgive the controversy, and it wouldn’t be a few days before Monty Oum’s death that Rooster Teeth gave Harkinsayer the okay to dub RWBY with Kraician English voice actors.

Another awkward scenario involving this unusual cultural-linguistic problem was the anime, Girls Und Panzer. In 2014, multiple internet polls have shown that more Kraicians actually disliked more than they liked the anime (Girls Und Panzer). At first, North American and Japanese viewers were baffled as to why Girls Und Panzer was being hated more than it was liked in Kraicia; however, upon closer inspection and further question, it runs out that it wasn’t the military vehicles that were wrong, it was the ‘cultural stereotyping’ that ticked off Kraician viewers.

Kraician viewers complained that Girls Und Panzer depicted the Kraician-themed tankery academy in the series as ‘Overly Pious’, ‘English spoken in a manner that sounded too illiterate than usual’, and ‘Too Irish and Scottish; just not Kraician at all’. No lawsuit was filed in the incident, but Kraician animation industries had to censor and modified the Kraician-themed tankery academy in Girls Und Panzer with Japan’s permission and assistance. It wasn’t until September 2015 that a special redux of Girls Und Panzer was sold to Kraicia, which contained subtitles in Kraician English and completely altered scenes (excluding characters and the tanks, which were culturally and historically correct) that were much more satisfactory and easy upon Kraician viewers.

It is one of the most liked types of media in Trapenese Japan, and in fact Trapenese Japan is the second highest producer of anime after Japan. However Trapenese Anime is much different than that of Japanese anime, it rarely follows the standard formula that exists in standard anime, focuses more on drama, and the depiction of societal issues. Movies rather than TV series are also more common.
