Normally I'd provide a prompt, but based on what we've discussed via Discord and your unique circumstance you should be good to go. Accepted.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

National information

Official Name: The Harmonious Hegemony of Enara

Shortened Name: Enara

RP Population: 275,000,000

Culture and Ethnicity:

The Harmonious Hegemony of Enara features countless unique ethno-linguistic national groups living beneath its flag. The Hegemony is populous and yet also full of mountains, valleys, and other natural barriers which allowed for largely independent evolution of culture in different regions of the country. It is true that regionally, people show similarities- the people groups populating the mountains are categorically different from those who live in the foothills who are separate from those who reside in the valley who are not the same as those who live on the coast, for example. That said, two individuals picked up a hundred miles apart from one another on the coast are almost certainly not going to identify as being members of the same people group, nor would they necessarily strongly identify as “Enaran,” though they would recognize the governing legitimacy of the Hegemony.

While some societies boast of being melting pots, the Hegemony is distinctly a salad- that is to say, that countless different groups are incorporated but each of them remains distinct and is easily identifiable. There has been a great deal of cross-cultural pollination, especially with the advent of mass communication technology and rapid transport, but an individual still today will need to be proficient in multiple languages if they hope to visit more than just the major cities of the Hegemony, most of the languages within the Hegemony are only found within her borders. Part of the reason for this failure of proliferation is due to the Enaran caste system, a rigorous metric which divides society into easily managed and organized levels in accordance with strict hierarchy. The most significant castes are further subdivided and are referred to as Ensigns. Interaction with individuals of separate Ensigns is unusual among the more prominent ranks as members of that Ensign enjoy separate facilities for recreation, education, and, typically, also employment.

These vastly different and vastly numerous groups are united in but a single attribute- their faith. Specifically, the Faith of the Named Gods. The Faith has its origins high in the mountains included in the Hegemony and was pioneered by a small people group known as the Enarans. The Faith teaches that the Named Gods, those who control every aspect of live and creation, have returned to the planet to guide humanity into a period of peace, and enlightenment. In an otherwise fragile society the significance of the Faith cannot be overstated, nor can its prominence in society. The soul additional unifier is intimately tied to the Faith, the Tsovnah, the Hegemony’s Head of Government. Tsovnah means High Priest and the reigning Tsovnah is believed to be the intermediary between mankind and the divines. Without these two connected ideas, the nation would almost certainly collapse.

Government Type: Absolute Theocracy with Monarchist Elements

Head of State: The Named Gods, the Mahan Sabha

Head of Government:The Tsovnah CXI

National Overview: (A brief summary of your nation's general political ideology and society.)

Long ago, a warlord from the foothills ventured up into the mountains with his army at his back to conquer the elusive Enaran people. They were believed to possess a hidden mountain lake which, if one drank from, would grant an individual immortality. The man hoped that the Enarans would come out and meet his forces in battle, unfortunately for the warlord, they did not. Instead, the Enarans simply retreated higher and higher into their mountains and forced his army to follow them further and further. When winter came, it obliterated the army and the warlord was left alone. Too far from the foothills to retreat to them, the warlord climbed higher into the mountains hoping to that he might be taken prisoner by the Enarans- he knew they would not kill him as they were a peaceful people, and though the ransom would be large, it would ensure that he did not freeze or starve to death. The Enarans took him in and treated him with dignity, no differently than anyone else and it was there that the man met the Named Gods, the divine beings who possess all wisdom there is to be had. The warlord was marveled by their radiant wisdom and converted to the Enaran Faith. He swore that he would spend the rest of his life bringing this Faith to all people of the world. This man was the first Tsovnah.

Following in his footsteps, the subsequent Tsovnahs have led the Hegemony to expand- both through the sword and the pen and have grown the Hegemony to its current size. The Faith exudes the concepts of wisdom, compassion, discovery, generosity, charity, and grace. It is believed that if these are accomplished perfectly, an individual will achieve Enlightenment. Unfortunately, if one fails in any of these pursuits, even once, they will never achieve Enlightenment in this lifetime. Further, everyone with the exclusion of the Enarans peoples (specifically, the ethnic group residing high in the mountains, not everyone in the Hegemony), are doomed to fail as they begin with blackness already gripping their hearts. To accommodate this, the Named Gods have returned to the world and, if one manages to produce true faith in these figures, they are granted the righteousness of the Named Gods and, upon death, are perfectly Enlightened. Once Enlightenment has been achieved, souls spend eternity in paradise with the Named Gods not currently residing on earth. Those who die Endarkened, however, are sent to a hellish alternative where they are tormented for countless centuries until they are purified and reborn- unfortunately, they will not be born as Enarans, instead they will be born into some other culture where they will have the opportunity to place their faith in the Named Gods once again.

This is the official Faith of the Hegemony and it is adhered to by an incredibly vast majority of the Hegemony’s population. It is believed that people’s hearts are so black naturally that they would not, of their own accord, place faith in the Named Gods. The Hegemony exists to simplify that process. It does this by expanding, bringing more people into its fold and encouraging them through institutional means to seek faith in the Named Gods. In this way, the Hegemony is a definitionally expansionist empire always seeking an opportunity to incorporate more wayward souls. At the same time, the Hegemony has gone to great lengths to avoid being viewed as some sort of evil, fanatical empire. The guiding principles of the Faith has encouraged the Hegemony to act to uphold human rights and dignity abroad and they have invested heavily in resources that will assist them in reaching out to impoverished masses. Typically, when the Host deploys it does so to act as peacekeepers or to establish or protect refugee camps where they continue to spread the good news of the Faith.

Armed Forces:

The Hegemony’s armed forces are referred to as the Enaran Host. The Host is a large, somewhat professional force which has strong traditions of undisputed ecclesiastical control of the military. Across all three branches, the Horde, the Sky Guard, and the Sea Guard, the Host is made up almost exclusively of members of the Caste Marsala, the militant Ensign. This has been true since the creation of the Ensign System hundreds of years ago, and as a result, most servicemen can trace their lineage of service back several generations. It is worth noting that the Host is not, officially, the armed forces of the nation-state, indeed the Hegemony does not have an official army. The Host is, however, the official secularized and militant apparatus of the Faith and answers ultimately to the Named Gods and only subserviently to the organisms of government. Members of the Caste Marsala are, therefore, generally also amongst the most religious communities in the nation. The Enaran Host is dedicated primarily to ensuring internal stability and secondarily with the defense of the nation.

Broadly speaking, the Enaran Host focuses more on quantity than on quality. However, this has been changing in recent decades, the current Tsovnah has revealed that it is the will of the Named Gods that the Host become something more resembling a professional, technologically capable, modernized military. Unfortunately, personnel costs, the single largest portion of the Host’s expenditures, were sufficiently great that the Hegemony could not fund modernization efforts while also keeping the soldiers to fed. To address this, the Tsovnah authorized the Host to invest economically which, though initially hesitant, the Host has agreed to and acted upon. Today, the Host boasts not only a monopoly on force, but also a monopoly on the telecommunications, arms manufacturing, and hospitality industries. The Host employs nearly a million private citizens through its businesses, which number in the tens of thousands, and is a significant economic force. This has served to improve the quality of life of average soldiers and has alleviated the government’s funding obligations- as a result, the military budget has been decreasing and yet the modernizing process has been accelerating.

While the Host is large and, increasingly modernized, it lacks the ability to project power very far from its shore in any significant quantity. This has become less true with the Sea Guard modernization efforts which has created, for the first time, an Enaran blue water navy- however, transport capacity has still eluded the Host. However, most experts would note that this is due more to the Host being apathetic regarding the matter- the Hegemony is not anticipating overseas expansion anytime soon. The men who make up the Host are, however, well-disciplined and reasonably well-trained despite being a somewhat conscripted force, though due to the nature of the martial castes, Enara does not fit well in the volunteer-conscript spectrum.

Personal Information
RP/Writing Samples: I took an old prompt

Your neighbor, the Republic of Kuminda is a small-ish nation that was, at one point, under the colonial yoke of a much larger imperialist nation. Your administration and the republic have shared good relations for some time. This imperialistic nation, the Kingdom of Hall, lost the lengthy war against the Republic of Kuminda after a very bloody guerrilla war some two decades back. Despite a negotiated peace, Hall reimposed a trade blockade on their former colony for some six months before a full-scale invasion of Kuminda, in which the entire country was reoccupied. It has been a year since the occupation, and Kuminda guerrillas have been launching raids against Hallish soldiers occupying their country. These guerrillas have their bases in your nation. Whether your administration knew of their presence or not, the Kingdom of Hall, a much larger nation than yourself, has demanded that you hand over or disperse the guerrillas immediately or face "forced action" from the Kingdom of Hall.

Your government has called an extraordinary session in order to discern what their next moves in the great geopolitical game will be. On one hand, appeasing the Hallish would certainly mean avoiding their wrath. On the other hand, however, handing over the guerrillas will raise questions over your nation's sovereignty, and abandoning a nation that has been your long-time ally; this is not to mention that your administration don't even know where most of the guerrilla bases are, which would make eliminating them costly and lengthy.

The Butsian Palace,
The Harmonious Hegemony

The Butsian Palace was a vast complex nestled in the rolling, forested foothills not far from smoggy Saracii. Fortunately, the Palace was free of the awful pollution which hovered over the de facto capital of the Hegemony and was afforded nothing but the pretty scenery of a nearby lake, forests and, when the sun set, a million radiant stars dancing around their lunar queen. Altogether a relaxing residence for the Tsovnah, the intermediaries between the celestial and terrestrial realms. The Palace had sufficient rooms for the Tsovnah and his family, along with any guests who may be residing with the High Priestly Family. There were also, of course, staterooms, offices, lounges, and parlors sufficient for a man of the Tsovnah’s station to suitably entertain both domestic and international guests as the need arose. The Butsian Palace also stood as a testimony to the collision of the architecture styles favored in the mountains and those favored in the plains- a thousand arch ways lined the exterior, covered and tiled walkways surrounded the Palace, but it was also surrounded with tall towers, each of which came to a spire- with one massive spire in the center which drew the eye. It was a relatively young structure by Enaran standards- it had burned to the ground in the early 1900s and had finished reconstruction in a more modern style in the 1920s, but the countless steps leading up to the main entrance, the moss which had overtaken many of the walls which waved to softly greet visitors anytime the wind blow, and the many carefully planted willow trees which covered the grounds were all testimonies to traditional Prajalu architecture.

The Vha’ita Room was one of the least formal state rooms the palace offered, with only a single large crystal chandelier hanging over the center of the room, and relatively few large sofas for guests to recline ensuring it was easily the most intimate of the reception areas of the palace. The floor was blessed with a large painted masterpiece which depicted the birth of the cosmos in whites and golds- the furniture was all specifically made and placed to represent an astrological body that could be identified in the nighttime sky. The work, in its entirety, was large enough that in order to view it one had to recline fully on any one of the sofas and glance upwards where they would find the entire ceiling to be a thousand mirrors and, when illuminated, the chandler acting as the central light which was breathed into existence by the great Unnamed Gods.

Today, however, it was not the artistic magnificence of the room that was at focus, but rather the irritating Kingdom of Hall and their irrational demands. To discuss this sensitive matter, the Tsovnah had gathered together with various Maah- specifically those who represented the Sabha of Foreign Enlightenment, the Sabha of Talion Retribution, and finally, the Sabha of Elysian Tranquility. Also in attendance were the Mana Sabha’s Kushok to the Tsovnah and the Anja of the Guardians of the Ascendant. While the group was far from representing the entire government- indeed, even the divines themselves remain cloistered, these were men and women selected and gathered for the unique competencies when it came to resolving the current crisis regarding the notoriously unenlightened Kingdom of Hall. The Tsovnah inclined his head politely to the various heads of the Sabha, who reclined with him on different sofas, and then also acknowledged the Kushok and Ajna, the former had insisted on sitting on the floor- as per usual, and the later was not of sufficient social rank to join the seated men and women, and so she stood. After the allotted time necessary to set aside for idle chit chat had passed, the Tsovnah placed his cup of tea on a silver platter that rested next to him on the sofa and motioned for the Maah from the Sabha of Foreign Enlightenment to speak.

Nydira, as was the Maah’s given name, was an older, distinguished looking woman. Her deep set eyes and prominently long nose crafted a face that seemed born to look down on others. Despite the looser skin that came with age, it was not difficult to tell that she had likely been quite attractive in her younger days, though even all those years ago her dark eyes and naturally skeptical brow would have proven intimidating. Her hair had, for the most part, retained its raven black, save for the exception of a single white streak that she wore boldly as an indicator of her experience. Never one to speak without thinking, Nydira bowed politely to the Tsovnah as she collected her thoughts.

“Dear Tsovnah and gathered friends, I thank you for extending me a welcome to this gathering, though it grieves my soul deeply that such a grim matter need be discussed at all,” her voice harkened back to a bygone era, the sophistication of her accent somehow faint yet potent. “As you are aware, the Kingdom of Hall has maintained an illegitimate and illegal occupation of our sovereign neighbor to the south, the Republic of Kuminda for the past year.” Nydira was known to hold her hands in a peculiar way when thinking and she paused a moment as her fingers intertwined, “unfortunately, this Kingdom has made protest against our government, claiming that the few remaining vestiges of the Republic’s military are operating within our borders. While I have assured Kingdom officials, both personally and through intermediaries, that we would not condone any illegal organizations to operate within our territory, the Kingdom has proven persistent in their ignorance. Of course, matters are made worse by our government’s righteous decision to refuse recognition of their illegal seizure of Kumindan territory and our continued recognition of the Republic’s government in exile- the Kingdom of Hall has proven precariously unpleased with both points.”

“Thank you, Maah,” the Tsovnah responded politely, “are you indicating that the Kingdom of Hall is not sufficiently enlightened to understand the merits of diplomacy? Are diplomatic overtures, in your opinion, destined to be fruitless?”

“Regarding the latter, not in their entirety. I am confident that we can make, if not the Kingdom of Hall, the international community see reason. Regarding the former, to a woeful and distressing degree. What the Kingdom seems to understand most is brute force and the threat thereof, though we must not be too dismissive of them. After all, all of us short of the honorable Kushok are lowly first-borns in the cosmic sense.” She paused for a moment, “my initial inclination is to issue a statement acknowledging that the possibility that cells such as they have described are, indeed, operating from within our borders. Separately, we can assure both the Kingdom and the international community that the Harmonious Hegemony does not tolerate terror networks, regardless of their ideology or aims within our jurisdiction. Of course, it would take time to locate and prove that these settlements are, in fact, illegal in nature.” She sighed, “unfortunately, while I have no doubts that my brutish counterparts representing the Kingdom will be largely amiable to the proposal, at least initially, we must not forget that they have previously signed treaties only to abandon them as soon as their expansionist lusts overtake the piddling intellects. We should not be surprised if they agree to these measures, only to act aggressively at a later date without provocation, as they did towards our neighbors in the south.”

“Thank you Maah Nydira,” the Tsovnah replied- he had taken another sip of his tea during the Maah’s final comments and was still appreciating the warm path the liquid paved as it moved towards his stomach. He turned to the man representing the Sabha for Elysium Tranqulity, “On the possibility of hostile conflict- would you like to comment Maah Fa’hardi?”

“Yes, thank you Tsovnah. If I may begin by stating simply that I agree with Maah Nydira’s commentary regarding the matter and I believe she speaks with much wisdom regarding our next steps to, divines willing, defuse this conflict before our boorish neighbors should take actions which would do irreparable harm to our relations.” Nydira bowed her head slightly as she settled herself back into the sofa and brought her tea cup to her lip. Obviously, their Sabhas had been in very close communication over the past few days as the situation unfolded, and had coordinated their strategies before appearing before the Tsovnah. “I agree that we cannot trust this so-called Kingdom any more than we can trust a snake to lay in peace with an innocent mouse. They will likely attempt to organize an attack against us, it is in their nature.” The plump older gentlemen sounded very confident, his bushy black moustache wiggled as if suddenly stirring from a slumber as he twitched his nose, as he was in the habit of doing. His small eyes seemed almost certain that an attack could already be under way and his forehead, an already large affair made to seem even larger by his thin, wispy eyebrows, furrowed as he plotted a full military response to the power currently with a grip on their southern friend. “Now then, I recommend we transfer an additional division southward, and further, that we call up two of the divisions on reserve, one headquartered in the south and the other in the west, where we’ll move the 11th down from. That way, if they do seek to attack us, they’ll find we’ll be ready for them. I also recommend doubling the amount of jets in the sky so we can be fully prepared to repel any attempted incursion from above, and I’ll begin organizing a large-scale exercise for the units in the north- something to show that we’ve some teeth of our own.”

“It does seem that if our response to their demands is a large-scale mobilization, it may provide precisely the justification necessary for their aggressive leadership to launch into a conflict,” the Tsovnah’s concern was painted on his face and he turned to Maah Nydria to comment.

“That is certainly true Tsovnah,” she replied simply after a moment, she paused to collect herself before continuing, “we could frame the southward deployment as a move to accommodate their requests- if we are to go about dispersing guerrillas, it would require additional military muscle. As for the other activities, they could also inspire some increased hostility, but it is my diplomatic opinion that not taking such action could be misinterpreted by the Kingdom of Hall as a sign of weakness which would also serve to whet their appetite.” The Tsovnah nodded his head, it was difficult to deal diplomatically with the barbarous, practically tribal people groups beyond the borders. He was relieved he had loyal people in the Sabha for Foreign Enlightenment ready to play the role of diplomat in his absence for even the thought of speaking directly with the representatives of this Kingdom made his stomach churn slightly. He motioned for Maah Fa’hardi to continue.

“Thank you Tsovnah, and thank you for your enlightening comments Maah Nydira,” he cleared his throat, recalled what he had been discussing, and then resumed. “As I was saying, I believe if we take these steps they will be sufficiently warded off from military action. I have reviewed their capabilities and must confess that they do enjoy a surplus of funding and plenty of manpower, however, I’m sure I do not need to inform you that we maintain the advantage in any conflict. Not only because of our accommodating geography, but, and I sincerely believe this, because of the superior caliber of men in our armed forces. Our martial races are superior biologically, genetically, intellectually, in every way from their supposed professional force. I have no doubt that our boys would out fight and out last them on our territory as well as on theirs.”

“The Marsala Banners bring honor to the Hegemony,” the Tsovnah replied, which the general assented to with a hardy ‘here, here’ before returning to his more relaxed position as the Tsovnah turned his attention to the Maah representing the Sabha of Talion Retribution. “Maah Tsvenei, would you like to comment on the situation?”

“I submit to the will of your holiness,” the man responded, leaning forward and adjusting his gold-framed, rounded spectacles. He was the youngest Maah represented, wearing the dower black suit and a black tie to match, alleviated only slightly by his plain white dress shirt- his eyebrows, mustache, and the side of his head had greyed but otherwise his hair was still sharp black. His square face had been rounded only slightly in the past two decades of weight gain, all that desk work he had complained every year at his physical checkup since being leaving the reserve forces. “Naturally, Tsovnah we have dual obligations here. Firstly, we have the obligations we owe to all people in the Hegemony- the right not to be accosted or harassed without cause. If we are to break up these camps we will need, first, to ensure they are who the Kingdom claims them to be, and that will require our independent verification. To accelerate this purpose for political means would be ethically repugnant. I have already contacted the Sabha for Cultural Ascendency and requested they form an ecclesiastical council to divine the truth of the Kingdom’s allegations, that the men and women in our country are, in fact, guerilla fighters. Secondly, there are the obligations we maintain to the government in exile of the Republic of Kuminda. We cannot simultaneously recognize the Republic as a legitimate, independent nation and also prosecute their soldiers and officers for unjustly waging war against those who invade and pillage their fine nation. If we should find that there are combatant encampments in the Hegemony, we will then need to ensure that they are operating illegally before we can begin making any arrests. These are our legal obligations.”

“And regarding matters… somewhat… outside the realm of legality,” the Tsovnah continued, moving now towards the youngest woman in the room, the Anja of the Guardians Ascendant. Anja Vaeli had been, and remained, something of a mystery to the Tsovnah. Her darker skin betrayed no signs of wrinkles, but she carried herself with a poise that came with age. Her clothes were formal but traditional, a loose-fitting shah covering her shoulders, both a dress and pants, she was clothed entirely in white which contrasted nicely with the mocha hue of her skin. Her hair was almost entirely covered in the white headscarf she wore. She offered the coyest of smiles at the Tsovnah’s phrasing, the Guardians were never especially formal in his experience.

“Thank you Tsovnah,” she said, bowing deeply due to her low prestige compared to the others in the circle, “the Ascendant do maintain some ties with the various groups operating on this side of the border. To date we have offered them only limited tactical support- largely in the form of weapons and munitions so that they may continue their noble cause. Not all of the groups operating within the Hegemony are alike, some are the remnants of the Republic’s armed forces and others are nothing more than displaced citizens eager to take the fight to their occupiers. While we have spent some time training and equipping these latter groups, we have spent the bulk of our attention on the former. It is possible that they could be persuaded to lower the intensity of their conflict- but that would only be a temporary solution and they would return to the fight in due time with a large scale offensive.”

“Naturally,” the Tsovnah replied. “We have stood by them as they drove the petty Kingdom out once before, there is no reason why we should not offer any and all assistance we can until they have driven the Kingdom out again. That said, we do not want to be drawn into an open conflict with the Kingdom of Hall or anyone else for that matter. Can you be certain you can encourage them to enter into a period of dormancy? Provided of course that, once we get past this rough patch we would be willing to assist them, covertly, in their strategic aims more effectively with our border shorn up?”

“Yes Tsovnah, I believe so. We enjoy a great deal of trust with this particular nation given that we’ve worked with them in this manner before, I believe they would be open to our guidance on this matter.”

“And would there be a group we could offer as a token of our commitment to ensuring there are not groups hostile to the Kingdom of Hall operating within our borders?”

“I am certain that can be arranged, yes Tsovnah.”

“In that case,” the Tsovnah said, leaning back, “I’ll expect a missive to be forward to me shortly for approval. Thank you all for coming.”

To: The Foreign Ministry, the Kingdom of Hall
From: The Sabha for Foreign Enlightenment, the Harmonious Hegemony of Enara

My Dear Sir,

We were most grieved to learn that it is the conclusion of your Kingdom and her intelligence services that there are groups of Kumindan terrorists operating from within our beloved Hegemony. We can assure your government that prior to your notification we had not investigated the matter in the slightest. We are sending you this message to inform you that we fully understand your concerns and have every intention to comply with your requests to the best of our abilities given that we are constrained by a number of important details that perhaps your government was not aware of when you initially became aware of this matter.

Firstly, we would like to make very clear that the Harmonious Hegemony takes matters relating to our sovereignty very seriously and we will not tolerate threats nor threatening posturing from any nation. Our cooperation in this matter, therefore, is not due to any concern about our ability to defend ourselves nor should be interpreted as a relinquishing of our sovereignty in any way. Rather, our hope is to build trust with your country by accommodating you on the requests of yours we consider reasonable and these will be acted upon according to our laws. Any effort on behalf of your armed forces or intelligent services to infringe upon this most scared sovereignty of ours will be met with the most hostile of responses. We are certain that this atrocious, pointless, and bloody possibility is not something you would ever dream of provoking intentionally or otherwise.

Secondly, we are willing to extradite any terrorists or criminal elements you believe to be operating within the Harmonious Hegemony. That said, your (as we have previously informed you) illegal occupation of the Republic of Kuminda is not something we, nor the citizens of the Republic, are prepared to recognize. This has resulted in a sizable population of refugees fleeing your unlawful attempts at annexation of their homeland and settling in the Hegemony until such time as your government should choose to voluntarily relinquish your illicit gains in Kuminda and redeploy your troops into territory you legitimately control. Given our stance on this matter, we are not prepared to move every community of natives from Kuminda who may be residing near the border to your custody. We therefore would request that you provide the Sabha of Talion Retribution with specific names and evidence of each individual you believe to be participating in an illegal war against your troops and, after an investigation and if the Sabha of Talion Retribution agrees that these people are unlawful combatants, these persons will be transferred to your care provided that they have not committed any illegal acts while residing in the Hegemony.

Thirdly, in an effort to carry out the above prescribed process, we will be mobilizing a division of the Enaran Host to take up residence in the southern regions of the country near our border with the Republic of Kunminda, which your troops occupy. These soldiers will be necessary to carry out the arrests of specific individuals you inform us of and, further, to secure the southern border in hopes that we might not find our two great countries embroiled in a similar petty dispute in the future.

Finally, in a motion of good faith, I would like to inform you that the Sabha for Elysium Tranquility will, in the next few weeks, being a series of major military exercises. These have been planned long in advance and are designed to test our military’s preparation to respond to all manner of potential threats. We would be deeply grieved if you misinterpreted these exercises to be something directed towards you. We are certain you understand and we appreciate your cooperation on this and the other matters we have outlined above. You should expect a more complete explanation of the process by which a foreign entity may go about requesting extradition of an individual from the Hegemony to be arriving shortly, though do recall that this is done merely as a courtesy given that our two fine nations have not yet had the opportunity to sign an extradition treaty. As a result, there will be more steps involved in this unique process created specifically to accommodate your legitimate concern for your troops.

May We Have Peace Always,
Maah Nagarik Dali’mani Kirima Nydira

National information
Official Name: Principality of Sarethan

Shortened Name: Sarethan

RP Population: 64 million

Culture and Ethnicity: Sarethan has a broad national identity, but this disguises a wide number of divisions. The first of these is complexion. People of southern and coastal regions are generally lighter skinned, while those in the northern, western and tribal areas have darker complexions. The differences are great enough to be noticeable to outsiders, though urbanisation has lead to blurring of divides.

The second is hierarchy. Sarethan traditionally had no middle classes, leading to rather sharp distinctions between aristocratic elites and the general population (clergy were one of the few bridges, as was monarchism). However, socialism, internal migration and urbanisation have all brought about an intermingling, and one that was largely undesired.

The third is ideology. There has been an uneasy balance between monarchist sentiments, the conservatism of society, and the socialism of the 20th century. However, all of these political trends have come under recent assault, undermining the broad consensuses that underpinned Sarethani politics and Society. What precisely will triumph remains to be seen, but instability is likely.

The fourth is religion. Sarethani practice a pseudo-monotheistic religion, though with many local pagan elements. This has generally been seen as not a political issue, with practice having long been lax. However, many clerics have championed a return to theocratic morality, while secularism and even outright atheism have also gained footholds. Previously, this religion was a champion of liberalism and against state control - however it is now more closely aligned with conservative societal elements, as well monarchists.

The fifth is gender/sexuality. Sarethani society had been broadly patriarchal, though with various forms of cautious equality existing in urban centres, amongst the elite, and oddly, in the tribal regions. All of these have increasingly come under attack by the conservative hinterland. The real issue with gender related issues is that they normally bleed into other problems - notions of secular degeneracy for the cities, dark-skinned barbarism in the tribal regions, the destruction of traditional families, religious values, even being blamed for unemployment and republicanism. Gender and sexuality related issues are being used to voice deep running fears about the direction of Sarethan, and grievances that divide it. Generally prejudices are reserved for internal differences, and foreigners are not judged. There is a strong emphasis on family, but this largely in relation to ancestry, ethnicity and class. Sarethani social frameworks also allow for wide variations in tolerance, and the nation’s social compass used to operate on a cyclical basis.

However, the trend has recently been for a relaxation of social customs, but with a greater emphasis on class/privilege divisions. Both have provoked virulent backlashes, with discourse both sharper and more polarised than most have heard it before. Gender equality and sexual freedom have provoked significant opposition from conservative-religious elements, particularly in the rural/suburban populations. Meanwhile, toleration of social mobility has also lessened by the nobles, with a greater emphasis, in contrast to pushes for meritocracy. Underlying all of this is the fear of republicanism, the spectre that drives the political elite for any measure of unity, even at the cost of tolerance. Essentially, Sarethani society had quietly tolerated its differences, since various elements had lead separate existences. This preserved the illusion of homogeneity and cohesion. However, those illusions have increasingly been exposed.

Government Type: Monarchy (agnatic seniority). There is an elected legislature, which then chooses a Prime Minister. The Prime Minister has an executive Cabinet, who run various departments. The Cabinet’s composition is meant to be split between MPs of the Prime Ministers Party/allies, members of the Royal Court (so, monarchical appointees), and various noble families. In theory, this leads to a relatively consensual system of government; in practice it leads to dysfunction, with a series of weak Prime Ministers being run by the Shah/Nobility, or cunning Prime Ministers imposing. Populists are feared and suppressed.

The Shah may dismiss both the prime minister, their cabinet, or Parliament entirely. In practice, the Shah can also limit enfranchisement and various liberties to affect the vote, with the result that elections are neither entirely free or entirely controlled. This sort of limbo defines the Sarethani system - nothing full works, but nothing is completely broken.

Head of State: Shah Jisan ar-Savi (Jisan VI)

Head of Government: Prime Minister Nurshavas, 5th term (third consecutive term).

National Overview: Sarethan can broadly be divided into three areas, each of which has a separate level of development, social structures, and political governance. These areas are not geographically contiguous, and are nowhere near uniform.

First, there is the Riasar - which transliterates to palaces-on-the-ocean. These are highly developed-urbanised regions, scattered around the Suravas gulf. High-end manufacturing tends to be located here, along with the bulk of the service sector (incl. finance and retail). These regions also tend to be transport hubs, containing most port facilities and being the nexus of rail and road networks (though it should be noted that many of these networks are out of date). Local governance tends to belong to a wide range of capitalist and social democratic parties. Many cities were bastions of Nerotysian socialism, but this has dramatically lessened in favour of private enterprise. The concept of the state has also shifted - from a provider of employment and services, to a guarantor of fairness and liberty. The exceptions are healthcare and construction, in which metropolitan intervention is actively sought (Sarethan does not have a national health-service, but most urban healthcare is publicly provided). Riasi tend to be relative socially liberal. Women enjoy greater rights and tolerance is relatively high, to the point that many Riasi tends to be considered decadent and effete by the rest of the nation. [This cautious liberality is somewhat similar that enjoyed by Tehran or Jedda, while the elites enjoy decadence seen by the Gulf rulers.]

Then there is the Laras - which translates to ‘plain’, but refers to the Hinterland. Some 54% of Sarethan population are Larasi, and they essentially are the core of the nation. Larasi regions are not homogenous, but there is relative consistency - towns are numerous, but none are large, manufacturing and agriculture are the main forms of employment, living standards cleave close to the national average, and the population is moderately religious and conservative (with some bastions of the Faith). Even the climate is something approaching a median point between the fertile coastal regions and the mountains of Parsu Kush - Laras is not fully plains, but rather large flatlands and rolling hills. The climate ranges from wet to semi-arid, and middling fertility has lead towards large expanses of farmland. Most regular troops are recruited from Larasi regions (some of which have strong martial traditions), and these regions also form the key political constituencies. The state is generally strong here, providing many services and a large degree of employment. Politically, statism is the ideological norm. This does overlap heavily with socialism, but Left-wing parties are not the only proponents of this view in Sarethan. If nothing else, political support in these regions is often tied to state provision of services, so this is mostly left untouched. Influence is also held by a plethora of aristocratic and private interests. Some of these include large corporations (many, but not all, are heavily subsidised), local business elites, and the nobility. [Its role is similar to the Anatolian or Iranian heartland - moderately conservative, is a manpower/economic base, and when politically incited, is the arbiter of central governance. In practice there is a great deal more regional variation - akin to Bronze Age Mespotamia]

Finally, there are the tribal regions, known collectively as the Parsu Kush. There are three main regions - Sarathak, Cardusia and Rularsis. Each region is distinctive in topography, and home to disparate. However, all three are autonomous regions, with limited state control, and populated by traditional honour-based cultures. They have also been largely insulated from wider developments, such as technological progress or social reforms. Intermingling has been limited to effective ‘border regions’. Recently, however, there has been something of an exodus of young men and women from these regions into other areas of Sarethan, mostly looking for employment. Hardworking but without technical skills (or even literacy), they typically have found only low-end service employment, and have often been subjected to hate and exclusion (though as yet, not segregation). There has also been sustained attempts to create mining operations - often with heavy garrisons in the Parsu Kush. These have often been pushed without consultation of local cultures, resulting in upticks of localised guerrilla warfare (which was always a constant). These are just two examples of the divides slowly driving apart the tribal regions from Sarethan proper. For, as remote and distinct and uncontrollable these regions may have been, decades of interaction and conquest had made them strongly identify as Sarethani. As they now see the glimpses of what the new Sarethan is, this in deification is being challenged. [This region is more comparable to North Waziristan, or Saleh-era North Yemen, with the potential to become present day North Yemen. Tribal cultures themselves are possibly more comparable to the Rifs, c.1920]

Armed Forces: Sarethan has a volunteer military. Organisation of this military is complex, with some six official branches (and three unofficial ones).

It should be noted, that several military forces are not directly funded by the state. Finance is instead tied to local or regional distribution networks, and is managed/sourced by various factions (this often can amount to local taxation, by, say a metropolitan or aristocratic entity). This limits state control over the armed forces, and in practice has meant to conflicts of interests, and in some cases, to effective private armies. At minimum, it could be said that Sarethan has parallel military structures. Nonetheless, 1990 reforms resulted in the standardisation of most equipment and organisation, though more elite regiments may have greater access to newer items than other units.

Divisions are largely recruited from the small towns and large rural areas of Sarethan’s fertile and semi-fertile regions. These typically have commanders drawn from the local nobility (or even the clergy, in some cases), and in some receive additional funding from these elites, or their communities. This has resulted a wide variation in capability between divisions. Various influential parties are also allowed small private security forces (with numbers capped at various levels), that are outside military organisation, but have some paramilitary functions.

There are also several regular units that are drawn from specific tribes. These have typically served as elite or bodyguard regiments for the monarchy, or, in rare occasions, for powerful noble families. Tribal regions also have large semi-standing forces, though the state has no official control of these groups, and they are irregular. In practice they have been used as frontier-forces, but they do fight amongst each other.

The marines are a relatively competent branch, if underfunded. They are essentially a ground force, and largely ignore amphibious combat. Most are drawn from the urban populations near or on the coast. These cities also provide several elite ‘urban divisions’, which receive funding from their respective metropolitan areas, and are noted for high levels of professionalism and training. [A reasonable comparison might be the ‘Urban Cohorts’ in Rome, or the Trained Bands of London] Finally, they also employ their own police forces, which in some cases take on paramilitary functions. These units are perhaps the only forces to resist the pervasive influence of special forces which are essentially the government instrument of political control in the military (espcially since the Secret Police were abolished). The Special Forces are the elite and have authority over nearly other military commander.

The State also has full control over the airforce and navy, using the former to control tribal regions, and the latter to control coastal metropolises. The airforce is sizeable, but with most of its combat planes being outdated strike aircraft. It maintains a decent lift capability, and a smaller, updated, force of aerial-superiority craft. The navy is primarily concerned with anti-shipping and anti-air missile capability. Other areas of naval combat are comparatively neglected, since Sarethan’s naval expertise and shipyards are limited. Most aircraft are imported.

Sarethan specialises in domestic development and production of some areas of its military - frigates, destroyers, towed artillery, anti-shipping missiles. These are maintained and upgraded at relatively high tech levels. However, the tradeoff is a lack of a wider domestic industry for the development and production of military equipment, and so most is imported from foreign nations. Traditionally, the supplier of choice has been Nerotysia, but since the 1990s a deliberate effort has been made to move away from over-reliance on any single nation. This has initially lead to increasing purchases of Khorneran and Kolinthan equipment, and increasingly to other suppliers. Nerotysia is still the source of about 29% of military purchases, Kolintha with at 17% and Khornera at 12%.

Deutschland über alles, über alles in der Welt! (congratulations for making it this far down the word splurge)
Also, GDP is now 3,500 trillion zloty. It would be more, but somejuan no invest in east sarethan.

Sarethan wrote:

Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Official Name: The Greater Empire of Akitsukuni
Shortened Name: Akitsukuni
RP Population: 77,956,215
Culture and Ethnicity: Largely Japanese with constructed elements that have no real world parallel. Primary influence is Imperial Japan.
Government Type: Unitary Parliamentary Constitutional Theocratic Monarchy - The monarch is the head of the state religion as well.
Head of State: Empress Kameko
Head of Government: Prime Minister Hisoka Yamamoto
National Overview:
The Land of the Rising Sun. Akitsukuni is an ultranationalistic right-wing, theocratic monarchy with an ostensibly democratic government. In reality, the Teikoku Gikai parliament is largely dominated by two main parties, of which one has held power since the 1960s. The state region is known simply as the Imperial Shrine, a polytheistic faith that curiously includes the current reigning monarch as a deity Herself, and promotes the idea of Akitsukuni being the Purest land on the planet, and must be purified further to enable the Gods to return to this plane of existence. While beliefs have changed over time and in modern decades due to global information spread, the Imperial Shrine still remains an important force behind the trademark Akitsukunese ultranationalism.

The source of Japonic culture and often overshadowed by their mainland descendants prior to the 20th century, the Greater Empire and its people are determined to carve themselves a position in the global economic and political order.

Armed Forces:
Total size of the Akitsukunese Armed Forces is 1.037 million personnel on active duty, split into the Imperial Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Strategic Missile Force. Utilises JSDF and Singapore-AF equipment, along with self-designed equipment.

National information
Official Name: The Unified Republic of Haeseon
Shortened Name: Haeseon
RP Population: 87 million
Culture and Ethnicity: The culture of Haeseon is multiethnic to say the least, drawing from ethnicities from all over the world but primarily dominaed by Daeseong culture.
Government Type: Federal Presidential Republic
Head of State: President Han Yul
Head of Government: Chancellor Yi Jun-min
National Overview: The territory which became to be known as Haeseon was claimed for the Daeseong Empire on 1726 in eastern Valeya, with the arrival of the Daeseong fleet commanded by Dae explorer Yi Geun. The Dae explorerss encountered various warring tribes of indigenous people and taking advantage of their divisiveness (and their lack of immunity to Old World diseases), Yi Geun conquered vast swath of lands for the Daeseong Empire and received governorship over the Buyeo Commandery, the first Daeseong colony in Valeya. Permanent settlements followed and over the next 200 years, the Daeseong Empire expanded westward, establishing the Taegun Commandery, the Habaek Commandery, the Andeok Commandery, and the Guri Commandery by the late 18th century, and the Bongnae Commandery, the Imcheok Commandery, and the Myeongun Commandery by the early 19th century.

Due to fertile land and and friendly climate, the colonies were a profitable asset to the Daeseong and the colonists see themselves as proud and patriotic Dae citizens, ensuring that their trade, industrialization, and agriculture were a factor in their parent country's growing economy. The Daeseong government promoted the Seven Commanderies of Haeseon as a place of opportunity where folks can begin again. The colonies attracted many migrants from Escar, including Yorckers fleeing from persecution, setting up the foundation for a modern Haeseon.

The colonies had their own governments and with the sole exception of Taegun, most governors were elected either by colonial legislatures or educated Neoconfucian male scholars. In the mid 19th century, the Imperial government was looking to expand its dominion over the Haeseon colonies and set up new taxation systems and regulations. Most of the taxations were opposed by the colonists, who felt that the taxes they're burdened with only benefits the Imperial government due to the taxes going to Daeseong instead towards their colonial governments. During this period, the ideals of independence became widespread amongst intellectuals and merchants living in Haeseon.

In 1859, 14 delegates from Seven Commanderies of Haeseon formed the First Provisional Assembly in Yeongpo and after some debates, signed the Unanimous Declaration of Independence. Listing their grievances with the Daeseong Imperial government, the delegates argued that the colonies lived in relative prosperity and were self-sufficient in dealing with aboriginal threats. The intervention of the Imperial government placed limitation on trade with neighboring tribes and countries, placed additional tax burdens on the colonists when those taxes are sent to the parent government, and prevented settlers from moving into recently opened lands. The actions of the Imperial government, the delegates agreed to, were tyrannical and abridged on the rights of colonists. With the Unanimous Declaration of Independence signed, the delegates declared Haeseon to be an independent entity under the name of the Unified Republic of Haeseon. The formation of the Unified Haeseon Republic did not sit welll with the Daeseong Empire and the Royal Army was sent to Haeseon to put an end to this "insiginificant rebellion." In response, the Provisional Congress established the National Army to serve as the main military while pro-independence governors used the colonial militias act as first responders. The Provisional Congress also appointed Guri delegate and seasoned commander Dae Go as the Supreme Commander of the National Army.

In the span of four years, much of the fighting had taken place in Buyeo, Guri, and Taegun, although some skirmishes did took place in Imcheok and Myeongun. Tired by the long war, the Empire of Daeseong recognized Haeseon as an independent nation in the Muhyeol Treaty in 1863. At the start, the young nation is faced with internal and external issues. The war accumulated debt and frequent raids from neighboring tribes along with administrative problems brought a call for reform. The National Convention was held in 1868 to address issues in the country and came up with various reforms that would bring order to the young republic, establishing a a bicameral legislature, the office of the President, a Supreme Court, and other governmental reforms.

After the National Convention, the Republic lived in relative prosperity and was considered the Era of Progress in the late 19th century. It was a time of expansion under a national ideology of a manifest destiny for Haeseonins to spread the ideals of liberty across the continent. The Era of Progress oversaw technological advancements and a renaissance of ideological thoughts and art amongst scholars. It was also marked for the establishment of universal male suffrage and all male citizens were given the right to vote, regardless of their race (how well the enfranchisement laws were enforced varied). However, not all benefited the fruits of Haeseon. Natives were forced out of their ancestrial homes, racial segregation was still an issue, and the rise of immigration lead to anti-immigrant settlements among citizens of Neoconfucian and Taoist perspectives, bringing rise to a short-lived Haeseon People's Party (to distinguish it from the large People's Party, which already courted immigrant voters) into mainstream before being replaced by the Libety Party. Progress continues to grow in Haeseon with further expansion and industrialization, bringing more opportunities and problems. Child labor, worker's rights, and environmentalism became an issue with state governments putting a ban on establishments of labor unions and violently breaking up strikes. In 1889, numerous workers, socialists, and environmentalists formed the Justice Party, a progressive political party that soon replaced the People's Party as the primary opposition to the Liberty Party.

Isolationism became a major principle in Haeseon in the early 20th century and the Haeseon government stayed neutral in the First Endwar. Haeseon was involved in the Second End War as a major participant for the Allied Powers, becoming an emerging power itself. Isolationism to be safe from the hostile world was soon replaced by Anti-communist fervor that became mainstream in the Republic with the country joining the Heian Cooperation Organization and promoting anti-communist resolves. Civil rights became a cornerstone issue in the mid 20th century and the country finally voted to end state sanctioned segregation nationwide (it was already ended in half of the states beforehand).

Modern Haeseon is a developed country with having high GPD per capita and human development. It ranks highly among economic freedom, government transparency, quality of life, education, and civil liberties. It's a major nation in agriculture, advanced armaments, mining, finance, and art. Haeseon is a regional power in Valeya and an emerging power in international stage.

Armed Forces:
- Haeseon Army: 423,000
- Haeseon Navy: 70,000

National information
Official Name: Mendikean People's Democratic State

Shortened Name: Mendikea

RP Population: 37,867,392

Culture and Ethnicity: The culture is primarily Basque, with the only elements of Latin culture being spread out Gascon minorities in the nation.

Government Type: Federal Single-Party State

Head of State: Zadornin Vizcarra, President of the Ministerial Council of the People's Democratic State

Head of Government: Yanamari Izaguirre, General Secretary of the Mendikean People's Emancipation Front

National Overview: The roots of modern-day Mendikea can be found in the aftermath of the victory of the People's Emancipation Front over the combined forces of monarchists and republicans that constituted the main opposition forces in the civil war that was fought from 1953 to 1958. With its dominance over the country certain, the Party proceeded to begin its program of reforming the nation. The centuries-old system of forcing landless peasants in practical servitude to estate owners was abolished and their land was redistributed, industries that were deemed to be of vital importance to the state were nationalised and the economy and society were reformed in the syndicalist model of establishing trade unions as the main social unit and basis of all political organisation.

However, these reforms would not prove successful and the Mendikean economy would come to face serious economic trouble by the mid 1960s. As economic stagnation set in and the economy shrunk, the nation failed to heal the wounds of the civil war and move towards economic progress. The crops failure of 1968 would be the last straw in a series of setbacks that would lead to general unrest in the nation, as famine began to claim more and more lives and the country seemed to be on the brink of anarchy and total collapse. On August 28th 1969 a group of radical young officers of the Popular Revolutionary Forces would initiate a coup d'état against the leadership of the Mendikean People's Emancipation Front and quickly set themselves up as the leaders of the Party. Focusing on the idea of Barneko Indarra (roughly translated as Internal Strength), the new leadership of the country would quickly reverse many of the previous established policies, dissolving worker's communes and syndicalist unions while instituting new policies of their own, cutting back on foreign commitments in trade and other areas of the economy.

As the situation worsened, the group would take more extreme measures to maintain power. Power in the party became increasingly more stratocratic and suppression of the opposition intensified. While the era of stagnation had mostly ended by the late 70s, things would not come to improve in Mendikea. The early 80s would see the largest wave of anti-government protests since the end of the civil war. In what would become known as the Three Day Massacre the PRF would crack down on opposition protests from the 21st to the 24th of April of 1983 which would result in the death of over 11,000 protesters. As the crisis was finally weathered, the long period of reconstructing Mendikean society was renewed. Party control over all aspects of life was increased; now opportunities in higher education and advancement in work only came for those with a history of being loyal to the regime. A great majority of the population was slowly integrated in the Party as a new caste system was established, separating those who had been loyal and those whose family had shown tendencies of opposition. The ideology of Internal Strength was combined with the original socialist tenets of the People's Emancipation Front to create a new ideology which was adopted in 1986 as the official ideology of the People's Democratic State; Mendikean Socialism. Combining elements of nationalism, socialism, together with traditional elements of Mendikean culture and military heritage.

In the more recent years, the situation has remained largely unchanged in the People's Democratic State. Society has finally been shaped around the two institutions of the Party and the Army, and the hardships of the past have produced a stoic peoples which does not often show its opposition to the regime. However, this does not mean that it is stable; Mendikea is always in a precarious situation, maintaining a balance between the iron grip of the government over the nation and the slightest misstep which could throw the country back into anarchy. What the future will bring, remains unknown.

Armed Forces: The Popular Revolutionary Forces constitute the armed wing of the Mendikean People's Emancipation Front and the de facto army of the People's Democratic State. It is divided into three branches: Land, Naval and Air Forces. The Land Forces have a total of 90,000 active enlisted men and 200,000 reserves, the Naval Forces have a total of 37,000 personnel and the Air Forces have a total of 33,00 personnel. The PRF mainly focuses on the defense of Mendikean territory; as such it does not have the power to effectively carry out operations in foreign territory and focuses its efforts in Mendikea proper.

National information
Official Name: [X Continent Demonym] Workers' Federation
Shortened Name: Norday
RP Population: 142,918,000
Culture and Ethnicity: The vision I had for ethnic groups are some sort of Norsified Slavs (i.e: Varangians) speaking one of the Interslavic conlangs. Culture is New Syndicalist Person™ with probably a tradition of matriarchy in some form since that's different.
Government Type: Single-party Maximist (for now it's ~generic~ Totalist syndicalism, it will eventually be expanded to be some sort of SMASH THE OLD ORDER™ WORLD REVOLUTION™ ideology) securocratic federation with elements of jingoism (depending on where I end up going), Strasserism, and civic religion in the form of "founding fathers worship"
Head of State: First Citizen Gjustaf Javekssyn (d. 1937)
Head of Government: Premier Tea Hendriksdočera
National Overview: The current area of Norday was settled by proto-Balts and proto-Finns during the 9th century BCE, with the groups settling permanently by the 4th century CE. Norse settlement from [Somewhere] began in the 8th century CE. During the seventy-year colonisation, the Norse settlers, called Varangians, established petty kingdoms. Minor conflict with the indigenous peoples (aka genocide) resulted in their assimilation with the Varangian colonists and the subsequent cultural genocide of Aboriginal groups. In 771, Varangian chieftain Alrik Válgardsson founded the city of Frajshavn, subsequently founding the Jarldom of Frayshavn and is considered to be the first modern-day Nordayese (Nordayn?) state. Unification was complete in 1028 CE, and Jarl Alrik II proclaimed himself "King of the Varangians" and established the Varangish Kingdom.

[Pretend that stuff is written about industrialisation and other European shenanigans here]

Starting in the late-19th century, the Varangish Kingdom began to culturally and economically stagnate, which ultimately resulted in the Black Revolution of 1919 which saw the abdication of some queen and a tentative republic form. Because we can't have nice things, the interim republican government broke down after national populist REACTIONARIES attempted to launch a coup in 1922. The subsequent Nordayese/Nordayn Civil War lasted until 1931 and totally isn't a more edgy rip off of the Spanish Civil War that saw like 25% of the population die and saw the near complete eradication of the Balts and Finns that still magically survived the assimilation process. The Proclamation of Emancipation of the Workers and Peasantry was passed into law in 1932 and formally created the [X Continent Demonym] Workers' Federation.

Modern Norday is considered by biased, fake news agencies as being a low income, post-industrial state characterised by a medium HDI and high GINI coefficient. Its economy is a mix of central planning, collectivisation, integralism, and corporatism combining extremely high rates of unionisation, use of various planning committees tasked with mediating labor disputes, establishing codes of regulation, controlling prices and planning the economy, a large public sector, and a cradle-to-grave welfare state. Agricultural and most manufacturing factories are collectivised and experience extensive unionisation by the workforce.
Armed Forces: Total manpower will be something like 4% of the population because of WORLD REVOLUTION™ SIEGE MENTALITY

Official Name: The Socialist State of Namgiang
Shortened Name: Namgiang
RP Population: 163,480,000
Culture and Ethnicity: Giangi culture is heavily influenced by the religions present in Namgiang, the communist government of Namgiang, and the plethora of ethnic groups within. The dominate ethnic Giangi are similar to Vietnamese, with some differences. There are also Thuoc (Lao), Bhuat (Khmer), Dae, Haradeshi, Shirakawan, and Jurnian ethnic groups living in Namgiang.
Government Type: Namgiang is a socialist single party unitary state with a Premier as head of state. The current Premier, Liễu Thường, has been Premier since 1997 after the death of Premier Võ Kiên Tĩnh. The SSoN is generally described as authoritarian, nationalist, and communist. The ruling party of the Giangi government, the All-Peoples Front, is ideologically considered Totalist, which promotes a mixed socialist system (mixing limited free enterprise, Nerocratic cooperatives, and state owned companies), socially conservative policies, and economic protectionism.
Head of State: Premier Liễu Thường
Head of Government: Leading Party Member Đoàn Chung
National Overview: The Socialist State of Namgiang is a unitary country located in southwestern Escar, in what is historically called Escoa. Namgiang is a multiethnic single-party state and is criticized by some for its authoritarian and nationalistic tendencies, although proponents of the Giangi system point to the large scale liberalization of its economy in the 90's and the introduction of Nerocratic cooperatives in some sectors in the late 80's. With a population of 163 million and plentiful natural resources, the nation is considered an important power in Escaric and Ordic affairs. Namgiang is a member of Orcom and the Ordic League.

This application is more or less unacceptable in its current form. Your population is generally too high for a new applicant (not so much if you're okay with being poor). Secondly, the application lacks a tone of professionalism which is not entirely suited to the application process. You're welcome to revise your application to deal with the aforementioned issues that I have risen. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me via telegram on here or from the Ordic discord.

National information
Official Name: The Vermilion Empire (硃帝國, Zhūdìguó)
Shortened Name: Tsutikuo
RP Population: 89.7 million
Culture and Ethnicity: The dominant ethnicity is basically Han Chinese, but the dominant and state religion is Nestorian Christianity. Tsutikuans speak and write the Imperial Lexicon, which is the equivalent of real-life Mandarin Chinese.
Government Type: Parliamentary executive constitutional monarchy with technocratic and theocratic elements, based on Confucian philosophy and Christian Dominion Theology.
Head of State: His Imperial Majesty the Taixing Emperor (泰興皇帝, Tàixìng huángdì)
Head of Government: Imperial Chancellor Ming Jisong (明繼嵩)
National Overview: The head of state and fount of all legal authority is the Vermilion Emperor, who is regarded as the Son of Heaven and God's anointed ruler. The monarch rules until death or abdication, and is both the political and religious leader of the nation. Firstborn male-line descendants of the dynastic founder are taken from their parents at birth and raised as orphans in isolated monasteries where they are kept ignorant of their heritage and taught humility and sympathy for the common people. When the monarch dies or abdicates, a council composed of senior ecclesiastic figures, senior imperial princes and high-ranking mandarins selects the next emperor or empress from among those children, who only then discover the truth of their heritage before being invested in the Vermilion Throne and anointed as imperial sovereign.

Beneath the Emperor is the nation's legislature, the Imperial Senate. The Senate is composed of a mixture of hereditary seats, reserved for those holding senior aristocratic titles; ecclesiastic seats, reserved for senior clergymen and monastics; territorial seats, which compose the largest part of the Senate and consist of representatives elected to represent a certain territory; and imperial appointees, who generally include senior scholar-officials, experts in various fields and representatives of important interests such as workers' unions and large corporations. The Senate is responsible for proposing, drafting and passing legislation which requires imperial approval to be passed into law. The Emperor has the right to refuse his consent to legislation, effectively affording him veto powers. The head of government, the Imperial Chancellor, is nominated by the Senate, and appointed by the Emperor. The Emperor has the right to dismiss the chancellor, dissolve the Senate and call elections at any time, but normally elections occur every six years.

Once enthroned, the Emperor usually lives a fairly secluded and ascetic life within the Inner Court of the Imperial Palace. His three major channels through which he interacts with the government of the Empire are the Imperial Chancellory, the Imperial Censorate which consists of senior officials who scrutinise all major organs of government and report directly to the Emperor, and the members of the imperial house. All male-line descendants, male or female, of the first Vermilion Emperor are princes or princesses of the blood by right of birth, but the superior title of Imperial Prince or Princess is awarded to those children raised in the imperial monasteries as potential monarchs who pass all of the necessary tests to assume the throne but are ultimately passed over in favour of another. These children are instead allowed to leave the monastery as fully-fledged scions of the Imperial House with authority superseding the ordinary organs of government, acting as senior advisors and agents of their sibling or cousin, the monarch. This system is designed to ensure that no one institution can seek to control the Throne by manipulating the information passed to the Emperor.

The ruling coalition in the Imperial Senate, composed of the conservative, centralist Ironhats Party and the moderate reformists and socialists of the Bright Torches, pursues Dirigiste economic policies. Tsutikuo has the basics of a welfare state, including universal healthcare funded through a social health insurance model. The economy is largely based on manufacturing although there is a fast-growing services sector. In line with the State's Christian character, abortion is highly restricted, marriage is permitted only between one man and one woman (although homosexual relationships are legal), almost all recreational drugs are banned (including tobacco) and the minimum age for drinking is 21. Civil and political rights are broadly respected; elections are relatively free and fair, there is universal suffrage amongst citizens, and although the Empire is highly Christian freedom of religion is permitted. The Imperial Inquisition, established to repress heretical and pagan religious practices and enforce religious law in the 16th century, was taken out of the hands of the ecclesiastic authorities in the 19th century and placed under the supervision of a senatorial committee, its remit being reduced to dealing with political heresies such as advocating the overthrow of the Emperor or the abolition of the established Imperial Church. Today the Inquisition serves as more of an internal security and counterintelligence agency, whilst retaining its religious character.

Armed Forces: 430,560 personnel in total, including 294,480 regulars and 136,080 reserves.
- Imperial Praetorian Guards: 8,500 regular, no reserves
- Tsutikuo Imperial Army: 180,460 regulars, 80,670 reserves

Culture and Ethnicity: Basically Iranians
Government Type: Totalitarian Single-Party State
Head of State: Artan Khodana
Head of Government: Hazhir Mithuji
National Overview: The Piran government, although islamic, officially pursues a pretty secular policy on religion, and has been known to prioritize it's armed forces, in order to, some day, expand and re-establish the power Pir Nahan once had, in the form of a Bozorg Bayr Nahan (Great Pir Nahan) spanning the historical territories of the Piran Empire, which succumbed due to internal conflict in the late 19th century. The leader of Pir Nahan is internationally known to have established an extensive cult of personality, with the erection of a huge statue in the middle of the desert serving as an example of this. The state and its population is also known to be entrenched in a deep siege mentality, closing it off from the rest of the world, Pirans in general also share a pretty hostile and chauvinistic view towards foreigners.
Armed Forces: The Piran Renovation Forces has a standing army with a number of personnel measuring to 300,000 and it's reserves to 800,000. These numbers are distributed across three branches, the Greater Piran Army (GPA), Greater Piran Navy (GPN) and the Greater Piran Air Force (GPAF).

The prompt for our two new applicants:

Following an election in which the party that won did so via voting fraud that was exposed by a hacker who has since fled the country, tensions seem to be rising all across your nation. Violent, angry mobs have already clashed with police and presidential guard forces in the capital, and the military is refusing to restore the calm. The newly-"elected" leader of your nation has assembled his cabinet and closest advisers in order to figure out what to do.

Just a reminder that this is a free-form writing prompt that can be as long or as short as you'd like. If you'd like, the problem doesn't even necessarily have to be resolved at the end of your piece.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Considering that this has a great chance to happen in U&A, most likely to be the Asporians. What would happen is a general riot started by the Uwhi population, and the conflicts would rise exponentially. The thing is that the Asporian side of the army would fight to control the Uwhi side, but at the same compass, the Uwhi side of the army would fight against the Asporian side. Considering that the situation got really ''ugly" over the capital (and considering that the capital is located over the Aspor region) the police would probably kill the Uwhi rioters under the president's order, but also they'd be stopped under the president's order too, like a move to show to the Uwhi that he "cares about them", but still, this fraud would be one of the triggers for the independence of Uwhistan, though I can't see this happening without a civil war, because the Asporian side is always trying to take advantage over the Uwhi side. The Asporian policy has been killing Uwhi for nothing since ever, so it wouldn't be different in these violent riots and etc..they would just find an excuse to do so. And considering that the Asporian have a strong influence inside Uwhi territory, an ethnic massacre cannot be discarded. omg, all because an election fraud? Yes, yahoo, imagine a people that has been subdued and dominated since ever, and when finally their candidate for the presidency has the chance to win...bayum, an election fraud.
