This reminds me of a design proposed by some Japanese senator whose concept name I forget, but it was basically an armored cruiser except freakishly huge and with battleship turrets instead of dinky 5" guns.
I learned of it on the North America World of Warships forum where it was agreed it was incredibly stupid and would thus make a great boss event.

Now move! Pick apart my Empress's realism side!
A ship is a singular object in the vast oceans of any planet. This thing announces its presence to anybody and everybody with a WWII era sonar in the same ocean. All your enemy has to do is not be in the same 40 km diameter circle as your waste of steel, and your 20 knots effective is too slow to catch anybody.

Well, her speed would have been 32 knots, but I nerfed her to accomodate for another RP.
Makes sense though.

A nerf is a change to a game that reduces the power of a weapon or skill in order to maintain game balance.
So cost-cutting measures are intended to create balance between opposing factions in war?![]()
This isn't an argument about whether the military ever cut down the abilities of one thing to make it cheaper... it's a matter of cutting down the abilities of one thing to make the playing field even. I'm not aware of modern militaries not using any tactical and strategic advantage it has had in any combat operation before for the sake of 'making things fair for the enemy'. This is my complaint, that people do this a lot on NS, because the people they're facing don't do their research, or don't understand how combat works.
Now, I'm going to say this much... I'm not arguing for the realism of the battleship that was nerfed, but the realism of nerfing the battleship 'for fairness'.

A basic run down of naval vessels should be
Carriers: support ground operations
Escorts: frigates and destroyers to hunt submarines and defend airspace
Submarines: actually sinks ships
Is this all more or less a correctish understanding of the roles of modern naval vessels?
