Just a helpful reminder to keep things from becoming excessive or otherwise falling into rule-violating territory. If this becomes just a, "Let's see who can string as many curses together," type of thread, you know how this thread is likely to end.

Pretty much looks like it has.

In Ephyra, swearing isn't overly common, and is often reserved for extremely irritating, unfortunate or otherwise inconvenient situations. Most Ephyral represent a calm demeanour.

With so much internalised misogyny you could bottle it and export it at competitive prices. A vast majority of your cultures' terms of abuse, expletives, and pejoratives are direct references to female genitals and/or female sexuality—that's shameful. Just shameful. You have a thoroughly toxic, ugly Eld.

***

In Prut society swearing isn't a native concept; it's the mark of the foreigner, the alien, the Waalswesan. Expletives used to express distress are usually nonsense words or onomatopoeia for pain, e.g. Ootsch!, Oy!, Jaah!,, etc. References to common cultural concepts are also frequently used to conveniently and quickly describe a less than pleasant situation or condition, e.g. Fisch! (unpleasant), Blitz! (shocking), Straßenverkehrsordnungswidrigkeitsverfahren! (irritation, especially over trivial matters), etc. A particular form of typically Prut expletives is the use of very technical juristic or "legalese" terms to show disapproval; the terms are usually well-known but rarely used in normal everyday conversation. Most are related either to traffic laws or bureaucratic accounting and procedures.

Sarcasm, dry witticism, and sardonicism are also frequently seen; always biting, but never vulgar. A person a foreigner might describe as an "arsehole" would be referred to as "as pleasant as toothache the eve before a holiday" by Prut.

by Corunia and Mironor
Corunians swear almost as much as Huswyaens, with pretty much any English swear word being common, with even politicians and royalty being known to publicly curse on occasion

Mironorese, on the other hand, rarely swear, which may be largely due to the fact that Mironor is 90% Catholic

Yeah, a Kirsti candidate running for office during his speech once publicly called his opponent a dick, it was on national TV also.

Chinese dialect vulgarities are all the rage. When it comes to swearing poetically, nothing beats the Chinese dialects.

Our people swear no more than anyone else. We pretty much stick to American swears.

It happens. Not much else to say.

Aside from NaMERS (the government's media rating scale which is quite honestly less law and more guideline), there's no government laws regarding profanity. However, companies, organizations, and etc. have the right to enforce rules regarding profanity within their own group. This is particularly common with media groups striving for a sense of decorum. Aside from that, the only other barrier when it comes to profanity are the informal ones set by a situation's formality and context.

In general though, citizens are permitted to swear all they fucking want.

The Padanaramian government does not allow its citizens to stoop to such primitive levels in language. Whenever swears are spoken a citizen's microtransmitter administers a small electric shock. Sometimes they malfunction and citizens go into cardiac arrest but it is for the good of the nation!

Swearing is highly common and graffiti is mostly legal, you do the math.

Swearing is not viewed favorably, even among dissatisfied people it's considered immoral in public.

Swearing in a public institution carries a fine of 75 cents, which goes into the swear jar, which helps fund language programs of which one goal is to create a more pleasant habit of speaking in our schools' students.

So many people swear in Mattantia. Foreigners have been admitted to clinics for multiple ear injuries, it's that bad.

One of the most common profanities in Astrolinium is pontto, roughly equivalent to Spanish pinche, and serving as a mild expletive to be sprinkled lightly for emphasis. As exclamation, the most popular profanities are capicho!, meaning cock! and merda!, meaning shit!.

It's an art form and a national pastime. Jolerian Portuguese actually has its own unique set of religiously-based obscenities, comparable to Quebec French profanity.

Despite this, it's frowned upon in formal settings and in media. However, media restriction of profanity is not as stringent as it may be in other countries (i.e. the United States).
