They're cheaper than cats and don't require any internal volume dedicated to steam reservoirs and lines from the steam plant for steam cats or capacitors for EMALS.

This thing is a Wasp/America class sized LHA/LHD so the default is an axial flight deck with no catapults or ski jump and no arresting wires. I'm considering adding a ski-jump to help with STOVL operations and some arresting wires so an F-35B or V-22 can make an emergency landing if the lift fan or tiltrotor mechanism (respectively) become inoperative for whatever reason.

I've also decided, at least for now, to make it conventionally powered so I have to add some smokestacks to the superstructure.

What about for an F-35B? The alternative would be for the pilot to try and land on a nearby CVN (if one is nearby), land at a friendly land base, or to simply fly near the LHA or another friendly ship and eject. If the LHA has some arresting wires and maybe a net the pilot could try to land on the LHA, the flight deck would probably have to be cleared to make room though. The emphasis is on emergency landing.

no that's more or less intentional, i have in fact chosen to omit one important accessory that would make it's purpose immediately obvious.

im still adding weapons so weapons that haven't been added aren't included in backstory.

backstory of the ship: The I-FOR Class or as its known as the Sturm-Ship. The Ship can be utilized for multiple situations such as Escort, Coastal defence, and anti-piracy operations. The Ship is capable of engaging Air, Sea, and ground targets. Using highly effective radars it is almost impossible for the ship to be ambushed unless the main surface and air radar are disabled. Other than the radars the ship is armed with a heavy surface gun as well as RIM-66 missiles. The Ship was made due to the rising concern of the nation not having an effective enough navy thats capable of defending its own waters.
