This is just really awesome, and it's just so cool I had to comment on the same general thing, again. xP

Touching up and refining the Groombridge 34 SDF EVC suit lines before colouring. (Not colouring today, it's late)

History lessons:
One of my earliest tablet drawings, 2014 versus this, from a few days ago
Submarine, 2014 versus submarine, 2018
And in things that are this thread's usual fare:
Gun, 2014 versus gun, 2019

Thanks man, I love hearing positive things about my work.

Next is probably service machine guns which is an absolutely wacky list to get through.

I started doing pixel stuff around late 2012? And that was when I found out about JG scale.

It wasn't good.

Compared to now, I'd say it was pretty good progress.

I threw a bunch of drawings of the same plane into one image as I think it's the best way to evaluate your own progress. I have earlier drawings but not of anything I'm still drawing. Date on file for top is 2013 but I'm pretty sure its at least a year older than that. Second from top is also 2013 or older. Third down is 2016. Bottom is from last fall/early this year. Not sure of scales for top two, bottom two are FD scale.

If you're getting into pixel pushing, go with JG scale, if you are wondering what it is, check my sig.

Eliminate dark lines and use shadow to show edges, as you're sort of already doing, but the effect is muted by the use of black lines to show edges.

Retouch the picture in a raster software like GIMP to add texture to the vector(?) base image.

Sadly my first tankus have been lost (or they're on one of many an old hard drive somewhere in my closet), including a particularly egregious Death Korps style rhombus doom thing with an actual screen door, and a :) Space Black Eagle but whatever.

8.5 years ago.

The 8 years ago CV90 is bad because it was the first tank I tried to draw from tracing rather than free hand proportions.

The actual 1 pixel thick machine gun barrel is what happens when I draw free hand.

Also 8 years ago I attempted to synthesize Anglo-American arms traditions by combining M16A1 and EM-2 into something awful:

Image

Sadly free hand also didn't work.

Thankfully rUK did it for me by making L85 I guess.

The way I draw them now is pretty far away from the super early chunky black lines and two tone shadows I started with years ago. Believe it or not that was not a vector image, I was just making everything sort of cartoonish for some reason.
