Type 10 actually does have compromised frontal arc protection. Kind of like ZTZ-98. The Japanese had to shave the sides of the turret down to keep the vehicle under its target mass of something like 45 tonnes.

Other than that it's probably OK. But I am biased towards Big Guns and Big Armor.

I don't get the argument here. so far I see several points being made.

1) Ford claims to like tanks.
2) Ford obviously likes gigapanzer landships.

I don't get what the fuss is. Is Ford somehow not allowed to like tanks because he finds joy in drawing his lovably silly and dumb gigapanzer landships? Not everyone has to be full hyper sperg with everything they do in order to have fun and choosing to do something dumb for fun rather than devote hours to hyper sperging doesn't mean you can't like something.

It's simple really: tanks can't be tanks unless they're M1A1 Abrams MBTs :^)

conversation looks dead, but I'll weigh in on it anyway.

"Perfect tanks" are boring, as are perfect-development writeups. But there's an important difference between realistic flaws and gratuitous flaws, both in tank design and in all the other aspects of lore-building, e.g. economic policy, education systems, systems of government. Making a realistically flawed tank requires knowing at least some minimal amount about the types of tradeoffs involved, or the theoretical misconceptions that were common at the time, and designing a tank around these.

This might involve embarking on the sisyphean (but still enjoyable) task of mastering everything there is to know about tanks; or it might involve reading up on flawed designs that actually progressed to decent-scale production (Ariete?) and looking for the actual reasoning, politics, and choices behind this. Alternatively, it may involve finding out about a failed prototype and stopping to think about the reasons it didn't make it into service. The point is that it involves more than looking at Nazi gigapanzer prototypes or blue-sky paper projects and figuring out where to cram extra MG turrets.

Mostly I'm adding this because (i) I'm a second-rate tanksperg at best, and have still been able to make decent AFVs; and (ii) I too was once under the impression that "not everything is perfect" meant you can still build battleships in MT etc. It's not a hard dichotomy between full-time committed experts and everyone else, though it can look that way at times.

Strictly speaking Frod still has the "right" to draw animu gigapanzers and post them here, since it's just CYOE. But at this point all the generic gray dakkatanks are starting to blend together and it's turning into a tired meme.

Nobody is saying he shouldn't draw or post them though. Ford is perfectly in his right to create and post anything he wants. But equally so we are perfectly in our right to not like what he draws and post that we do not like it. Anyone who does not want his work to be judged by others and commented on he should keep it private. The moment something is placed in public for people to see it is open for us to hate.
