We have bomb shelters, conventional and nuclear. We have almost no need for them, as we have Apocalypse Barriers, share-based force fields that can stop anything, even nuclear attacks. We use bomb shelters only if the barriers are compromised.

Does your nation have bomb shelters. Nuclear and or conventional.

The Technocracy, in cooperation with the Royal Army, has prepared nuclear fallout shelters for 88% of the population, with one year of supplies in each.

If you have, describe why your country has them (or it)

  • The nation has a long history of large numbers of violent animal attacks. This changed the initial culture to train all citizens in violence and drove advanced weapons and armor development. Overall, the culture shifted to become more survivalist. As the government of the Fifth Empire represents a modernization of long-established Ashkeran traditions, it is more survivalist than most modern governments.
  • The advanced network of nuclear bunkers represent a nuclear deterrent, as they make the threat of nuclear attack less effective.
  • The advanced network of nuclear bunkers would allow the country to rebuild after nuclear war far better than foreign nations. This also acts as a deterrent to nuclear attack, as it means global nuclear war is likely to result in a world dominated by Ashkera.
  • The nuclear bunkers and supplies also act as emergency housing and supplies in the event of ordinary disasters.
  • Revolutions typically only occur during times of desperation. Since almost the entire populace is armed, and the military is not fully under their control, the anti-democratic government can remain in power only so long as there is no widespread desperation. The one year of emergency supplies, while expensive, ensures they are unlikely to be removed from power by anything short of foreign invasion.

Our neckbeards live in basements, but these tend to be so underground that they are like anti-nuke shelters. Normies have their own public shelters in case of emergency but they aren't as well maintained since they are of the small and underfunded State.

Our state, the League of the Six Free Peoples, is actually controlled by a cartel of neckbeards known as La Cosa Fedora. Members of the cartel are known as Honorable Gentlesirs. Citizens who are not members are known as normies.

Our armed forces are armies of the radicalized romanceless.

Do you fear us yet? If not, have some anti-neckbeard propaganda!

Bomb shelters are often used in many nations much the same as the great, floating armored fortresses described by Orwell in 1984. They are built by a fear-mongering state to justify raising huge levels of taxes, thereby keeping the people destitute and reliant on the state. Years later, the now obsolete shelters are decommissioned, having never served their purpose or saved a single life, a level of waste almost beyond calculation, and of course new bomb shelters must then be built at even greater expense than the last ones.

Most bomb shelters in the U.S.B. are going to be privately constructed and kept. Those few built by government are usually local, built by city governments at the request of the local populace and in order to protect certain key members of the populace. Like the children.

Military bases will often also have hardened shelters to withstand bombing raids.

About 90% of the population has access to either a bomb shelter or a fallout shelter. Many of the shelters are upgrades to the tunnels, caves, and other subterranean hiding spots that our freedom fighters used in the revolution to ambush/hide from colonial troops and loyalists.

There are nuclear fallout shelters in many public areas, particularly major cities. However, given that our nation is very rural, just about a 3rd of the population lives within 10 miles of a public shelter. Theatres, public gymnasiums, hospitals, and schools are common locations for them. The government (under the banner of the Disaster Response Agency) does keep them stocked with non-perishable foods, medical supplies, and the like. There are some people who build shelters on their property (often also for tornado protection), although it's difficult and expensive to build these to the standard of withstanding radioactive fallout, so many are not.

Ever since 2018 when China sent vassals towards Anchorage, Alaska, every home has been recruited to have one Fallout Shelter, with enough food and water to last at least a decade. Most people use fallout shelters when DEFCON 2 or DEFCON 1 are declared, which is the constant state America has been in from 2018 to 2022. Yearly inspections are also required to make sure the shelters are stable.

We haven't had any bomb shelters since Hiroshima. If we did, we would be hiding in it all day and night because we're so scared of getting nuked. (which is just sarcasm because we are actually prepared in the unlikely case we DO get nuked)

There is many bomb shelters scattered around Nortend, built during WW2, the Cold War and recent years, many of them household cellars. They are usually marked by signs but some have lost their signs over the years or never had them. Public bomb shelters were also built in WW2 were only designed to withstand normal bombing raids and have now often been used as a storage space for the parish. Cold War bomb shelters were designed to afford some protection towards nuclear bombs, though obviously they weren't tested and thus their effectiveness is unknown. Bomb-proof cellars are still built in many newly-built buildings. The most recent time a bomb shelter has been used is during 1999 when an old Cold War siren was accidentally turned on in the village of Dumbridge, Swent. Villagers rushed to the village bomb shelter where they waited for over an hour before a policemen informed them of the mistake.

500 Vaults, each with enough room to house a million people, were constructed a few years ago by Vault-Tec in order shield a sizable chunk of the population from a nuclear war.

There is a large bunker in every major settlement of Vionna-Frankenlisch, permanent military installations are also equipped with these bunkers in one way or another.

The bunkers in question are designated as T Class Mass-shelters. They can comfortably accomodate thousands of inhabitants but the full capacity varies from bunker to bunker, they are designed to protect against not only regular ordinance but also nuclear weapons up to 68 megatons (airblast) or 40 megatons (ground detonation).

All bomb shelters must be able to withstand nuclear bombardment and even plasma bombardment. Every building in the IUC has a bomb shelter for every floor.

There are a few left over from the communist era, but most bomb shelters in Radiatia are not used, or simply there for historical purposes.

There are still a few secret shelters in major cities designated in case of a nuclear attack, but this is not for the general population.

Some paranoid citizens may have built bomb shelters of their own in their backyards, but there's no legitimate or realistic threat that an enemy bomber could attack the Radiatian Federation.

Each city in Versilia, large or small, has shelters reserved for civilians, govt., or military persons in case of nuclear or conventional attack.

Underground train systems can also serve as shelter.

Some of the larger ones, such as Shaakhij's tunnel systems, could become self-sufficient if given the means.

Most large Jordanian cities have at least some bomb shelters, most of them dating back to the days when our peaceful Arab neighbors were attacking us every five minutes.

Despite jitters from certain quarters about nuclear Armageddon at the height of the Cold War, the Dahoni government has never built shelters for such an event, the kami having determined (after much deliberation and debate among themselves) that, if neither the US nor the USSR are capable of disabling the other's military infrastructure with its first strike, neither would be able to sustain themselves, let alone hegemonize, in the aftermath of a full-scale nuclear war between both powers; as such, neither power was thought likely of deliberately starting one.

Being a majority non-human nation means we have long grown accustomed to the constant threat of attack. Most major cities have at least some shelters, as do many private homes, apartment housing complexes, and the like. It is simply a fact of life to which we have grown accustomed over the years.

We have a lot of bomb shelters, conventional and nuclear. The nuclear ones are designed to be self-sustaining for a period of around 200 years, and have been prepared by the state in the event of another global thermonuclear war. Everyone waves their ICBMs around regularly so they're a pretty decent idea. The conventional bomb shelters are pretty old. From a war about 30 years ago.
