Besides hanging out, chatting and being friendly?

To actually have something to discuss though, looking back at my infantry I realize that I handed out no grenade launchers. I have one RPG-7 per squad, is that enough? Should I issue grenade launchers to the fire team leaders and/or the sergeant? should I put a grenadier in the squad to carry the grenade launcher?

Man, you guys have really churched the place up since I left lol

I have two dedicated grenadiers per squad, each armed with an RPG of some type and with many additional rockets spread throughout the squad. I like the idea of lobbing lots of rpgs and grenades around the battlefield personally.

Ever thought about rifle grenades?

Hardly. I just like chatting with people here, even if the attempt at a game group died a horrible death.

I have 1 RPG and 1 MG per squad, one going to each fire team. So I don't really feel like fitting in another RPG. I honestly haven't thought about rifle grenades. I'll give it some thought.

RPG-7 is something that a dedicated grenadier for the squad should be tasked to bother with. Preferably paired with a guy to help him carry more rockets.

Of course, you could be pedestrian and just issue the grenadier an UBGL or something.

I already have a grenadier and his assistant carrying an RPG-7 for the squad. However I'm wondering if that is enough, and if I should additionally issue UBGL or, now that it has been mentioned, rifle grenades.

Hey guys,a quick question: should I go the Russia route of stockpiling old weapons in case of war, like WW2 era stuff, and if so what Russian/German/Whatever weapons would you suggest keeping around? I am tempted to stockpile the PPsH-41 and PPsH-43, as well as maybe the StG-44 as light weapons and maybe the RPD or DPV as heavy weapons. I'd keep them stockpiled in arsenals, and if there were to be a war I'd hand them out either to rear echelon troops or green troops going in to replace battle losses, as well as to fill any shortages encountered in initial mobilization.

Preferably weapons for which spare parts and manuals still exist, or failing that weapons that are stupidly easy to use.

StG might not fit that bill unless your country still has bucketloads of them, its popular in the country for whatever reason, and someone in there's still making parts and/or ammo (in which case go ahead)

If you are just starting to stockpile today then you simply stockpile whatever service weapons are spare or are going out of service, basically anything you have but don't need. If you want to buy stuff specifically to stockpile then you just buy more of what you currently use, this will likely be cheaper, easier to maintain and more useful than buying old stuff.

A stockpile of ww2 stuff would basically require you to have gotten all that immediately post ww2 and phased it out of service as the SKS and AK became availble/were shoved down your throat by Russia (if you weren't part of the USSR).

would it make sense to have both a Tarhe-like CH-53K variant and one based on the Mi-26? (along with the CH-53K and Mi-26 themselves)?

i'd reckon having to choose between an Mi-26 and a skycrane based on it the skycrane would probably be more useful

edit: as far as redundancy is concerned, the Mi-26 can carry much more troops (90 vs. 55) . yes, as far as payload goes the difference isn't that much (about 4T) but I do not think it would be unreasonable through a modernized variant to go to say 25T vs. the current 20T, which would mean a difference of 9T, which is considerable.

Someone mentioned RPG-7s and UBGLs in the same squad?

There's also a 6/7-dismount version, depending on whether the sergeant chooses to dismount, for IFV-borne units. Still has two grenade launchers and two disposable rocket launchers, but assigns them to the same riflemen, and eliminates the MG assistant by using an RPK instead of a GPMG.

It's Class 3 though, so a little outdated. Class 4 (introduced 2014) improves on it by adding the changes Puz recommended.

Grenade launcher and a projector are fine, just remember the launcher will generally need an assistant

Launcher has an assistant, so if I throw in a grenade launcher the fire team would be as follows:
TL
Rifleman
UBGL
RPG7
Assistant

OR

TL
Rifleman
UBGL
MG
Assistant

I'm actually liking the idea of just giving the Rifleman and TL a rifle grenade or two instead of the UBGL.

I thought about it but decided it'd probably just be easier to leave most of the ammo in the truck

Contemplated incorporating dedicated gear carriers at the platoon level for some units

(It didn't actually occur to me to put the auto riflemans webbing over his poncho lol)

EDIT* What happened to Kiev and some of those other people that had been around forever?
