As a cosplay fandom, furries do not exist in the Imperium, seeing how the prevailing social norms strongly oppose any non-mainstream subcultures. While cosplaying, including animal cosplay, isn't unheard of as a form of entertainment, it is far from popular enough for an organized subculture to exist.

The Sidhae are, however, quite familiar with the vulpines, a species of sapient pre-stellar xenos that could best be described as anthropomorphic foxes. In casual speech, this species is known as "Furries" to the Sidhae.

The Furries were notable for being the first technologically advanced species after the Skargh to be discovered by the Imperium. The Furries had advanced to late 21st century tech level and were on the verge of discovering interstellar flight. Unlike humanity, the Furries had managed to leave large-scale armed conflicts in the past, resolving inter-faction conflicts through arbitration and highly-ritualized arena combat events that rarely ended in fatalities instead, the Furry society being overall much more peaceful, rational, open-minded and tolerant than human societies of the same age. Lack of warfare had left the police force and professional arena fighters as the only significant armed presence when the Sidhae arrived - something that decisively proved the Furries' undoing.

The initial contact with the Furries was made in 2609 by a ship of human refugees fleeing a Sidh genocide after a failed rebellion. Despite understandable initial suspicions, the refugees were welcomed despite the objections from some who feared a Sidh retaliation for sheltering the humans, fears that later turned out to be very much justified despite initially being dismissed as thinly-veiled xenophobia.

Having embraced pacifism and left warfare in the past, the Furries were profoundly horrified and shocked upon learning of the incessant warfare, violence and brutality in the broader galaxy that the humans knew - in line with their pacifist beliefs, the Furries had always assumed that other sapient races out there would also have renounced war and violence in order to survive long enough to develop the technology necessary to take to the stars. This belief wasn't founded in naive idealism either - as a species, the Furries were themselves no strangers to war and genocide, having fought no less devastating wars as humans in their past, perhaps even moreso than humans. Their last war, having taken place over a century before their contact with humans, had seen widespread deployment of chemical and early atomic weapons, resulting in significant damage to the global climate and ecosystem and forcing the Furries to recognize that continuing with their current ways would inevitably result in the extinction of their species. The survivors of this final war and it's aftermath had hence vowed to renounce warfare as a way of solving conflicts, and reinvented the Furry civilization as one of peace and tolerance, where people's innate violent urges were kept in check and given a controlled release by highly-ritualized arena combat system.

The Sidhae, commanded by the ambitious strategos Hanno Malkar, arrived with a small force a year later and were shocked to discover a thriving technological civilization about to set out for the stars. Word of this new civilization turned out to be deeply upsetting to the Imperial government - a civilization with such a technological potential in direct proximity of the Imperial border could quickly become a threat if allowed to expand unchecked.

Malkar was consequently instructed to establish contact, demand that the humans be handed over, and that the Furries abandon their efforts to develop interstellar travel (now on the verge of success with the aid of human engineers and reverse-engineered human technology). The Furry home system would in exchange be declared a reservation, under protection of the Imperium and reserved for the exclusive use of Furries.

After much debate, the Furry leadership rejected this audacious demand. Little were they prepared, however, for what happened next when the Sidhae responded with an invasion.

Admittedly, for a civilization of pacifists and negligible military might, the Furries put up a commendable fight - six months and hundreds of millions of Furry casualties later, Malkar's Sidh forces were still unable to secure the Furry homeworld, the vulpines organizing a successful resistence. Displeased with the expensive delay, Sector Command dispatched the notorious Alpha Legion under strategos Arcadius Drax to bring the stalemate to a quick resolution. The Alphas acted with their characteristic brutality and bombarded the vulpine homeworld from orbit after withdrawing Sidh forces from it, annihilating the majority of their race in 2611.

Today, the vulpines are a scattered, dying race of a few ten thousand survivors being kept as slaves/pets and as zoo exhibits by the Sidhae, their eventual extinction largely being a matter of time.

While unconfirmed, it is believed, however, that an unknown but considerable number of Furries did actually manage to complete a functional interstellar ship and flee their homeworld shortly before it's destruction. If true, the Imperium may yet feel the wrath of the Furries one day.

Anthropomoric furries and humans co-exist here. In 2031, furries proved that they can defend the populace from terrorism by sniffing out bombs on trains. Along with the fact that every citizen is armed, terrorism is almost nonexistant here. Furries also compose an entire counter-terrorism task force under command of the SecDef.

Legally allowed, as it would be unconstitutional to bar them from participating in these activities. But it is looked down upon, and shunned, by almost everyone in the nation.

[Fadriotho]

There are a very negligible amount of furries in such an undeveloped country as Fadriotho. Most of these furries do not have access to the internet, and instead express their interest in anthropomorphic animals in real-life roleplays, literature, and visual art. Their interests are generally seen as new and 'weird', though is tolerable. How they developed an interest in anthropomorphic animals is unknown.

Furries as in the fandom don't exist, because furry websites are blocked by ChronoCast™ (the most popular subspace communication provider). This rule was implemented by Heinrik Stellant, and was kept even after he was revealed to support the outlawed National Populist Party.

Furries as in the species were found on Drantov II, at a late 1990s level of development, when their world got blown up because a bumbling idiot known as Mikhail Nicholson accidentally threw a baking soda bomb out the airlock of the observation station.

For the most part, humans and furries have lived in peace with one another since the nation's founding 210 years ago. Since January 20th, 2009, the short lived coup by Marxist dictator Banacko Bahama furries were purged against for a 15 month span. When Bahama was burned at stake for treason in April of 2010, the furry community finally started to regain their foothold in Brisketistani society. And in May of that year, discrimination of furries was deemed illegal.
And in June of 2016, following a successful election won in a landslide victory, Brisketistan saw it's first furry President. Silas "Brisket" Parker was elected on June 1st, 2016 and continues this position today.

As far as the general public and the government is aware of, furry subcultures are non-existent in Shyubi Koku Naishifun. Probably because they are simply too weird and liking anthropomorphic animals and dressing like them is not what the Shyubi likes. Even though the Shyubi can partly understand and sympathize due to a prominent "neko catgirl" subculture.

The government has no official position on furries, and neither do most citizens.

Fursuits are obsolete except among the poorest furries, because Ximea is a global leader in surgical, genetic, and bio-engineering technologies. That said, there are a lot of "back-alley" services that provide a shoddy, unsafe transformation at rock-bottom prices. Every now and again, the victims of these services can be encountered shambling around the larger cities, begging for food, picking at their sores, and scratching madly at their inflamed, patch-furred skin until the men in white hazmat suits come to take them away.
