Is styled hair popular? Yes
If so, what styles are common? Given that an overwhelming majority of citizens are multiracial people, men's hairstyles are either bald fade flat tops or curly Afros, and women's hairstyles generally vary.
What headwear is common? In general caps worn backwards seem to be a popular trend.

What are popular haircuts in your nation? For women, hair is usually cut normally. Long hair is desirable in young women, however the older they get, the shorter the hair becomes, though usually never shorter than a foot except for elderly ladies. For men, the standard haircut is the short back and sides, with the top left long, around two to three inches. A style similar to the 'undercut' is also common amongst the middle class.
Is styled hair popular? Yes, amongst the upper working and higher classes.
If so, what styles are common? For women, elaborately plaited with ribbons and flowers for daily wear is common. At formal events, or by the upper-middle and upper class, a bun is often worn, the tighter the more formal. For middle class and higher men, hair is usually combed over to the other side using pomades or waxes. Working class men usually do not style their hair.
What headwear is common? For men, hats of various types, often of fur, is common. For women, traditionally younger women wear bonnets whilst older women wear hats, though the distinction is rather blurred nowadays, with bonnets and hats being worn by all women.

People of the Imperium wear their hair in simple utilitarian styles, as could be expected in a culture obsessed with militarism and industry. While hair length and exact arrangement is largely determined by practicality in one's given profession, men usually wear their hair short, crew cut being by far the most popular style. Sidh women also rarely grow their hair longer than to the shoulders and typically keep them in a bun or braid. Pixie cuts are also very common and popular.

An interesting cultural aspect pertaining to hair in Sidh society is women with longer hair wearing them loose to signify an interest in dating. Since women with long hair would normally keep them gathered in a bun or braid for the duration of work day, undoing them would imply that they are off-duty and hence free to be engaged in a conversation and maybe asked out. Obviously, since many women wear their hair short, and still others prefer to wear them loose at all times, this unwritten custom is observed infrequently at best, but a woman undoing her hair or otherwise rearranging her hair in an obvious fashion in the presence of a man is still a customary way of subtly expressing interest in that man. These traditions evolved in because of the importance Sidh culture places on discretion - asking someone out on a date in the presence of others would be deemed improper, and doing the same in privacy not always possible, so more subtle ways of demonstrating interest were invented.

When it comes to headgear, the absence of it in Sidh society indicates one being off-duty, so few casually-dressed Sidhae will wear hats of any kind save for practical purposes. This custom, like many others, evolved from the militaristic Sidh ways - soldiers wear fully enclosed helmets with their powered armor in line of duty, so removing the helmet would evidently signify one being off-duty. Civilian employees likewise wear professional uniforms that include hats at work, though in the civil society, removal of a hat does not necessarily signify going off-duty (at most signifying one taking a break), and people whose work occurs exclusively indoors do not normally wear hats with their uniforms at all for practical reasons. This is because a civilian can simply change into casual clothing in a matter of minutes at the end of the work day, while a power-armored soldier would require an hour or more to remove an armor suit without outside assistance, leading most to simply go about in their armor at all times and signify their on/off-duty status with their helmets.
Freedom doesn't mean being able to do as one please, but rather not to do as one doesn't please.

A fool sees religion as the truth. A smart man sees religion as a lie. A ruler sees religion as a useful tool.

The more God in one's mouth, the less in one's heart.

Hair and Hattery - Trends and Traditions.

The people of the Confederacy, that is Old Virginia and all constituent states, have a sartorial heritage influenced by our English roots, American context, and rural economic background, as well as the popularity of sports and outdoor hobbies.

This leaflet will provide a basic overview of current trends in coiffure and chapeaux, as well as the most traditional and consistently popular styles

Popular Hair Styles
The Mullet
Image

A mullet is a hair style which is tapered in length to be longer in the back and shorter in the front. There are many variations in the length discrepancy, overall length, and manner of styling, but it is popular in both it’s male and female versions.

The haircut became popular in Old Virginia in the 1970’s, and has largely remained in vogue due to its positive associations with redneck and rural culture and living. Certainly not considered “appropriate” in a traditional white collar workplace, though the more styled and short styles are trending towards professional acceptability in the current day and age.

”Big Hair”

Among women in The Tidewater confederacy, “big hair” (referring to long, voluminous, and curly/wavy hair) has returned to vogue after being out of fashion for several years. Prominent singers, actresses, and even political leaders have been adopting these kinds of styles, and they maintain an appeal across age demographics.

How Popular Is Styled Hair?

The popularity of styled hair ebbs and flows over the course of a few years in our country. For women, popular styles in good taste often change in slight variation, or are subject to recurrent trends every decade or so. While many men (especially working class men) are adopting mullets and other long, pushed-back styles, crew cuts and short to medium business-appropriate scissor haircuts are the norm, with faded and shaved-in parts occasionally becoming the trendy splash of “pizazz.”
What headwear is common?
Men’s Headwear

Formal: Due to Old Virginia’s warm climate, working class and rural majority, and the desire of civic and business leaders to broadcast a sympathetic message to the general population, most dress hats have fallen out of vogue. However, hats made of straw remain popular for formal situations in the winter, particularly for transit to and from religious services, garden parties, and men’s professional attire.
