OOC Introduction: There's all too many situations where NationStates tensions spread across threads and impact nations uninvolved in the accompanying thread. I for one would like to have a New Hayesalian flag flying over all events of impact and as such I have started this thread which you can use as a reference point on how the NH Government, Military, news organisations and people look at the situations impacting the world.
As such, while I will accept government telegrams and communiques, news stories and individual's reactions as posts; posts that impact the thread in a physical way (eg, flying a bomber over a New Hayesalian Navy carrier) should be taken in a new thread - please TG me!
While you're at it, please join my Embassy program linked in the signature.
PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE, REVNAMI
Making the daily drive from the Prime Minister's Official Residence at Point Luhas House to the Parliament Complex was a chore but an adventure. The Parliament building itself was large though a minnow against the supertall structures in the blue-grey metropolis of Revnami. Separated from the Parliament Complex by the stunningly smooth Lake Neike the skyline glistened, with the Jae Snider Bridge taking Capital Highway 1 into the central business district. Standing tallest and in the lakefront the Capital Life Building breathed life into the shining city.
The Prime Minister's office took a large part of the top floor of the Parliament Building, the Senate and House of Representatives located in the large interior chambers of the building. It was from here that the red-haired and tiring Prime Minister Edwin Bolt would enjoy his morning coffee, looking over this grand capital. Each morning began with a short drive from the Point Luhas House, escorted of course by a considerable National Police and Royal Montmarian Guard escort convoy, before pulling astride the 15-storey building, a frosted glass impression of the New Hayesalian Coat of Arms bearing across the structure. Sometimes protesters would meet the PM's morning arrivals, other times supporters and civilians enamoured for pictures. Today, it had been the latter.
Bolt's schedule today was not a particularly busy one. While an election was to happen in the early part of next year and poll numbers were not as high as liked, it was a matter for Conservative Party headquarters to be concerned with. This morning's security briefing was already accomplished and there were few meetings with major players today - in fact, only the intelligence service had a meeting with the PM this morning, with his receptionist calling through their arrival promptly at 8:30 am.
In the waiting room, four black-suited and rather generic types sat armed with briefcases and folders. The Royal Montmarian Guardsman who stood aside the door to the Prime Minister's Office - a member of the gendarmerie organisation in charge of the PM's personal security - would of thought nothing of them.
But indeed these four were agents of the Foreign Intelligence Directorate, New Hayesalia's foreign intelligence gathering service. A part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs their duty was spread across diplomatic posts and special posts, as well as local jobs. The topic today was a new and rather unique militant group. The 'Homofront' had been growing in stature and claimed responsibility for a number of attacks in the name of LGBT rights.
The Guardsman allowed the four entry, and they approached the Prime Minister's desk at the end of the hall. A shake of the hands and introduction proceeded the four sitting on the long couch and providing briefing documents to the Prime Minister. It was very clearly marked with a red "Top Secret - NH Eyes Only" and the agents opening the briefcases did find themselves needing to recall a few codes. The initial briefings covered known leadership, organisation, goals and similar information.
"The simple fact is, sir," continued the Senior Agent "Homofront has branches we know of in Inyuristan, New Edom and Nova Syla. We further suspect branches in a number of smaller, authoritarian states. The ones that we would be most concerned about are the Cathedral and Massena, particularly as they border or very nearly border our Rozanian claim."
"Do we expect them to target us?" Bolt cut in, looking over photos of known Homofront personnel.
"Not particularly. Our record on LGBT rights is very good and as such we are not a target."
A pause.
"The Defence Minister did speak with us earlier about this issue. We believe there is an opportunity in all this."
"How do you mean, Agent?" the PM replied, peering up from the notes.
"Senator Dray put forward the idea of supporting particular Homofront branches to support our efforts in Rozania, as well as impact New Edomite and Inyuristan security priorities if they go ahead with the COASTAL accords." The Agent was certainly forward, and this surprised the politician. "We have a basis of information, but no major investments in time or resources at this time."
The Prime Minister considered the situation before proceeding.
"Interesting concept."
He paused.
"Can you put some diplomatically-placed assets into research positions? Find out who the local contacts are, get some information on capabilities, et cetera?"
"Certainly, sir. We can assign an extra agent to our Embassy in Fineberg and redirect some in Massena."
"Well done." the PM replied, before standing. The agents rose also and began collecting papers. With handshakes the PM sent the four to report to their headquarters, bidding them a fine morning. He returned to his desk, taking a glance at the bridge and the SunLift gondolas before diving into ministerial briefing notes for the next half hour - the next meeting was never too far away.
