DITO TROOPS RECLAIM MECICA; WAR IN NURANZ TO ESCALATE
Asterian forces, supported by Valentiri and Roessan forces, re-establish control of Mecica.

Federal Marines advance on enemy positions during the last day of the fighting

War in Nuranz -
After 6 days of gruesome fighting, the Federation-led DITO forces in Mecica have crushed an uprising by a Badawiyan separatist terror organization calling themselves the "Badawiyan Liberation Front." The fighting, which broke out on the night of September 19th, is being regarded as the largest military exchange in the region since the Battle of Al-Torra in 2013, when Federal and Roessan troops found themselves pitted against nearly a thousand Al-Haras militants. The exchange, now being dubbed the "2nd Battle for Mecica" by media and the "Mecica Incident" by Military Commanders, was also one of the most costly in the entire war, and the Citadel has called it "an intelligence disaster."

Currently, the information surrounding the events that preceded in Mecica are in short supply, but the Citadel has made various reports on the matter. A Situational Report dated at September 12th spoke of "unusual activity" in the city's inner districts, and more cases of "nighttime movement." Some speculate that the Badawiyan Liberation Front was seriously supported by a foreign nation, and most Federal sources point to Samastara. During a Press Conference about the attack, President White spoke about this possibility. "Not only were these terrorists armed with assault rifles and grenades, but they also had access to mortars and other support weaponry" he said. "Though, there are two things that stand out the most. Throughout the battle, the terrorist forces utilized trucks with mounted machine guns - this at a time where the DITO powers could hardly fuel their armies due to the staggering oil prices. Now tell me how a rouge separatist, terrorist faction can fuel fighting vehicles while hundreds of our trucks sit on base with empty tanks." The second piece of evidence was equally clear. "The flag that these terrorists flew over Mecica was almost identical to that of Samastara - with the only difference being the star - which is a clear implication that President Begum has either inspired, supported - or possibly both - hostile actions against DITO troops in Nuranz. Not only this, but evidence can also show that Samastara hasn't only morally supported terrorists, but is funding them as well."

"We cannot stand for this" White said. "We will punish those responsible for the lives lost last week." Since, the White Administration has announced that all banking assets of PENB states will be frozen - likely permanently - and the Federation will be slashing food supplies to all PENB member-states to 25% of what they were at the start of the year. The President announced that, should supplies be found transferring from Samastaran to terrorist hands, then there will be harsh retaliation. "We do not negotiate with terrorists" says White, "nor do we cooperate with those who wish to sanction genocide."

In addition, the Citadel has announced that an additional 500 troops will be deployed to Nuranz to help in the new campaign to root out the remaining holdouts of Al-Haras, and to begin engaging the Badawiyan Liberation Front. "It is the goal of the White Administration to end the sources on International Terror" says Secretary of Defense Michael Uhrich. "...and to defeat those who wish to see our nation's people, and the people of Nuranz, bleed."

RIOTS ENGULF GLYT CAPITAL FOLLOWING RAID ON COMMUNIST PARTY OFFICIES
Following a gov. raid on the offices of the Communist Party, Spálgleann protests by left-wing activists turned violent.

A Póilíní Ríoga officer is tended to by colleagues after protesters attacked police with bricks and bottles.

SPALGLEANN – Protests in the Glytteronian capital of Spálgleann over a government raid on the offices of the Communist Party of Glytter turned violent, with 13 Póilíní Ríoga officers injured and some 56 people arrested. The protests were started by left-wing activists who were uhappy with the raid on the Communist Party's Spálgleann office.

Police seized dozens of boxes of paperwork in order to investigate any possible connection between the party and the Mohrist Revolutionary Front. The MRF is responsible for the 23 August attacks that devastated the Glytteronian capital, targeting government offices and foreign embassies. 87 people were killed and 432 injured in the attacks. The group also detonated a car bomb in Corofin, County Aerach on 12 September, which left two dead and four injured.

The Communist Party has a history of ties to insurgent groups. During the Quasi-War and the Occupation of Glytter, the Communist Party established the United Glytteronian Front as its paramilitary wing. The UGF actively worked against the Asterian occupation until it was defeated in its 1931 uprising. Under General-Secretary Molly Reynolds, the group seized the Royal Post Office in Spálgleann and announced the establishment of the Glytteronian People's Republic. The UFG was defeated during the Battle of Seamus Street, which saw the destruction of the Royal Post Office and much of the surrounding area by the Asterian military. Reynolds was killed and her deputy was captured and executed by the Asterians. As a result, the UFG's chain of command collapsed and the group was effectively dissolved. The Communist Party would continue to operate, but remained unpopular and failed to gain any seats in the Royal Congress.

During the 1960s and 1970s, the Socialist Revolutionary Front launched an insurgency known as Na Trioblóidí (The Troubles). Hundred were killed, including many prominent political, business, and military leaders, such as Wallace P. Fitzgerald, Jr. and General Marie-Haley MacWilliams. The SRF also had clear ties to the Communist Party of Glytter, but the party never officially sanctioned the group. Instead, many registered members of the Communist Party enlisted in the SRF. Under Taoiseach Calvin McKenzie the group was defeated and many prominent members of the SRF were tried and found guilty for their involvement.

While there has yet to be any definitive proof of Communist Party ties to the MRF, Justice Minister Jimmy O'Reilly said: "We have to investigate the possibility of Communist Party involvement. We have seen it before, and it is possible we will see it again. This is not a witch hunt, this is not an attempt to outlaw a political party or a political ideology. However, this is an attempt to make sure an officially registered political party is not cooperating with a terrorist group responsible for murdering dozens of people and wounding hundreds".

The raid was conducted at 11:30 Eastern Standard Time. The Justice Ministry said among the documents seized are the registration of party members.

"The government is already aware of people's declared political affiliations. We already have this information. However, we are working to ensure the Communist Party is not withholding any information from the government. In the past, the party has intentionally withheld registration information of members known to be on government watch lists. We are working to ensure this is not currently the case" a spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice and Equality told reporters.

The Taoiseach's Office declined to comment on the raid.

Protests began outside Carrowdun Palace at 13:24 EST. A few hundred protesters had assembled in order to voice their opposition to the raid on the Communist Party. According to government sources, many of the protesters were "left-wing sympathizers, registered with the Communist Party, or anarchists".

Protesters began attacking the police at 14:02, throwing bricks and bottles at them.

Carrowdun Palace was forced a shelter in place during the rioting.

A statement released by the Communist Party said that: "We can never condone violence, but the actions of this oppressive government only proves the Libertarian fascists want to turn Glytter into a police state".

The MRF also released a statement regarding the raid via their many social media accounts.

"There will be a price to pay" one tweet read.

The Interior Ministry has sought to downplay the threat, but a spokesperson said they "remain very vigilant and are preparing for retaliation".

Enviromental Disaster results after Blekenian Oil Tanker sinks near Glytteronian Waters

Spálgleann, Glytter: Yesterday the world was shocked to hear the news that a Blekenian oil tanker, named 'BCV Øsva' was sunk near Glytteronian waters during a intense storm. Investigators quickly rushed to the scene where the tanker was last recorded to have been located, and have stated that a oil spill has now resulted as a result of the sinking.

03:28 AM - The Øsva is recorded by a local weather station on the Glytteronian coast as being 32 miles away from the nearest landmass. The Øsva is alerted to the presence of a large storm in the region, and is informed that the storm is worsening and that the Øsva could be caught in the path of the storm. The ship chooses to continue.

03:42 AM - The captain of the Øsva radios the weather station from earlier and informs them that the storm is turning their way. He reports heavy rainfall, as well as a increase in the size and roughness of ocean waves.

03:45 AM - The Øsva reports that the main deck was punctured, and water sweeping over the deck is leaking in, but states that the pumps could easily hold off the water. Afterwards, radio contact is lost, and the Øsva eventually disappears off radar.

As of currently, this is the entirety of the known series of events that has been confirmed to be true. Later that morning, the Blekenian company which owned the tanker, NCPS (National Commercial Petroleum Shipping), stated that they had reason to believe that the Øsva could potentially have been sunk. Blekenian search teams were dispatched, and found the area where the Øsva would have sank, but at this present time, have not begun investigations to find the wreckage of the oil tanker, and exact circumstances of the sinking are still unknown.

Blekenian search teams later that day announced that the wreckage of the Øsva appeared to be leaking large amounts of crude oil into the ocean through its hull, and that the exact amount of damage experienced by local wildlife is expected to be quite large. However, authorities mentioned that at the present time, attempts to stop leakage are impossible.

GLYTTERONIAN OFFICIALS PLAY DOWN ØSVA INCIDENT
Foreign, Environment, and Petroleum Ministers issue statements over sinking of Belkeni tanker.

Foreign Minister Frank Casarnach leaving a press conference called earlier this morning over the Øsva.

SPALGLEANN – Several cabinet ministers have downplayed concerns regarding the sinking of the Øsva, which sank sometime after 3:45 EST this morning. The ship encountered trouble during a storm 51.5 kilometers off of the southern shore of Éirness in the Gaylic Sea.

Environment Minister Fearghus Mac Donnchadh confirmed that "tons and tons" of crude oil had spilled into Glytteronian waters, but said he could not confirm the exact figure.

"We can't know yet, but we can assume the entirety of the ship's load has spilled into the sea. There is an obvious threat to our wildlife, and we will be working to ensure that threat is minimized.

This is not our first oil spill, and it won't be our last" he told reporters at Carrowdun Palace this morning.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank Casarnach also spoke to members of the press this morning. "Obviously this is something we are taking very seriously. The loss of human life is most unfortunate, as is any damage done to the environment. However, this is not the first oil spill we have faced as a nation. We are prepared for this types of things, and while relations with Blekenjegen have been strained largely due to their own actions, we are working together to locate the crew and the wreckage".

Mr. Casarnach took a unique approach to discussing relations with Belkenjegen, which have been cooling over a series of incidents regarding LGBT+ rights in the Asterian nation over the past year.

"It is uncommon for Foreign Ministers to attack a nation and cooperate with them in the same sentence" Dr. Alexandra Simms, Professor of Political Science at the University of Gayneva, said.

The Foreign Minister also said that: "We have our own rescue teams out, working with the Belkeni teams".

Alastar Lesie, the Minister of Petroleum, echoed the sentiment that Glytter is prepared to handle the incident. In a statement, he said: "The Petroleum Ministry has protocols in place for a whole host of incidents regarding oil spills. We have a plan in place, and it will be enacted as soon as possible".

However, Greens Leader Blanche O'Patrick was quick to criticize the government for their "apathetic and disgusting response". In a series of Tweets, Ms. O'Patrick said that "Casarnach and his goons are killing our planet" and that "we should be suing the Blekeni government over this, not helping them get away with the murder of our environment".

Pierre Chanteur Publishes a Philosophical and Sociological Reflection on the Post-Communist States of Western Euclea
Chanteur: "Its quite simple, I find, to analyse the trends shown by the people of these nations to be merely reflections on humanity and the reaction to the suffering they've been through."

Verlois, Ile de Fleur - Famed Gaullican Libertarian Philosopher and Non-Aligned Sociologist, Pierre Chanteur, recently published his latest work "The Free Will of the Human Person and its Relation to Situation, Scenario and Circumstance." A popular work now being discussed in Gaullican philosophical forums and several universities, Chanteur elaborates on his position that all humans are intrinsically free on Earth, but this freedom and interpretation of it can be moulded by society to a point of almost negligence. He points to scenarios such as under a dictatorship, in which one's freedom is compromised by external forces and almost whittled out of existence. Chanteur, a student of the famed Gaullican philosopher 'Sartre' of anti-Fascistic fame, is keen to continue the works in a 'battle against determinism and extensive conforming through behaviouralist psychology', which he believes "robs humanity of its right to self-determination and reduces us to programmable machines."

Following the publication of his work a few weeks ago, we were given exclusive privileges by the philosopher for an interview regarding the work, its recent criticisms and the points he put forward in this work. "I think I'm quite proud with the agreements I'm getting for this piece of work. I like to think that I have done a service to the problem of the battle between Free Will and Determinism, especially the ideals of Skinner whom referenced the behaviouralist psychology that was popular of the early 20th century."

Our reporter then posed the question; "And you feel, the examples of the post-communist states you give in Western Euclea; that of Wazóvia-Loṭuyę and Srvotjska, Drôhynia and Prăvka and how they relate to the free will debate is accurate?"

"Certainly." Chanteur responded. "One must look at the nature of the Kaxakh's Communist Regime, and those of its satellites. Enforcement of communist ideology, especially from birth, would most likely result in an almost 'determinism' aspect to our genetic makeup. Sociologically speaking, Mohrists would critique the Communist domination of society as an attempt to keep the 'underclass' subdued and docile, much like how they would claim in any capitalist society. If one analyses the work of Mohr, they note that the communist governments did little he suggested; especially with the reintroduction of religion to keep a docile, fate-accepting lower class. But this is besides the point, even then, the Catholicism of these areas was not as well maintained as their own version of Sotirianity, which was given preference by their Communist party. My book explains the supposed 'weirdness' of the nations of 'Wazóvia-Loṭuyę' and 'Srvotjska, Drôhynia and Prăvka' can be explained in the following manner; the attitudes of the populace and the renewed personal liberty that has arisen as per the fall of Communism would be a drastic change from their ordered and authoritarian society of the communist. A determinist would quip that such manipulation of the human person during these years would 'whip' them into a certain category, but I argue that free will can never be removed - it is merely subdued by oppression; therefore they regained their sense of normality, perhaps in a reactionary sense, to this renewed freedom. Thus it is human free will in the actions of these nations - and perhaps instead of criticising them for their 'weirdness', we should celebrate the cultures and quirks of these nations as symbols for human perseverance and the beauty of Free Will. Its quite simple, I find, to analyse the trends shown by the people of these nations to be merely reflections on humanity and the reaction to the suffering they've been through."

BOMB DETONATED BY MRF ON SPALGLEANN METROLINE
During the evening rush hour, a carriage was torn apart by a MRF explosive.

The bombing is the third high profile MRF attack since late August and has raised new security concerns.

SPALGLEANN – During Friday's evening rush hour an explosive was detonated on the Meitreo Spálgleann (Spálgleann Metro). Early government reports say 12 are dead and another 39 are wounded.

The bomb, which was detonated at approximately 17:38 Euclean Standard Time on the Líne Glas (Green Line) between the Boyles and Keníos stops. A statement issued by the Údarás Iompair Spálgleann (UIS - Spálgleann Transport Authority) said that "an explosive was detonated on one of our trains operating on the D Líne at 17:38. The Póilíní Iompair (Transport Police) are cooperating with all emergency response services at this time. As a result of the attack, all UIS trains will cease operation until further notice".

Eyewitnesses report that a woman pushing a baby carriage entered the carriage around 17:37, and after the doors closed the bomb, which was hidden inside the baby carriage, exploded.

"It was horrifying" Spálgleann resident Eamon Shanahan said. "The second the doors closed, the carriage was engulfed. Bodies and parts of bodies were everywhere. I'm lucky to be alive".

The attack is the third high profile terror attack by the Mohrist Revolutionary Front (MRF) since 23 August, when the group attacked various targets across the city and killed 87 and injured 432 people. The MRF claimed responsibility for the attack and said it was retaliation for the raid on the Communist Party's offices by the Póilíní Ríoga last week.

The Ministry of the Interior announced that emergency responders were on the scene "within minutes" and that there is "full cooperation across the board".

"We will not let the MRF kill our people" Interior Minister Sarah Pingins said at a brief press conference. "This is why the [National Security] Act is so important - it helps it better allocate the resources to effectively combat this threat".

Nearly a half hour after her press conference, a source within the Ministry of the Interior confirmed that since last Friday the government had "foiled numerous MRF plots" and that "several raids were conducted".

Concerns have been raised over the government's ability to prevent attack on the upcoming Lá an Rí (King's Day) celebrations. Lá an Rí takes place on 11 October, the birthday of King Kenneth IV. It is a national holiday in Glytter and thousands attend parades across the country, with the most popular being the Spálgleann parade.

"We kept the Festival safe, and we will keep Lá an Rí safe" Minister of Culture Tara Carolan said. "All will work out as it did for the entirety of last month, and we will be able to celebrate our national holiday in peace".

During the Spálgleann September Cultural Festival, which ran from 3 September to 24 September, there were no MRF attacks in the capital. However, a car bomb was detonated in Corofin, County Aerach which left two dead and four wounded. Government statements and reports indicate that they "conducted numerous raids against MRF targets" during September to prevent any potential attacks.

Enya McCarthy, one of the Liberty TCs representing Spálgleann Central, said that "the attack is evidence that we must ensure the National Security Act becomes law" and that "the process needs to be accelerated before more innocent people suffer".

A statement released by the Taoiseach's Office said that: "Taoiseach [Walker] is distraught with the attack, and will continue her work to ensure the safety of the public".

The Royal Household also released a statement through St. Ellens Palace. "His Majesty and His Royal Highness are saddened by today's events and wish for the speedy recovery of those wounded and offer their deepest sympathies to the families affected by this awful tragedy".

FMP LEADER ACCUSES SONGGUO OF 'CREATING' MRF
Ní Chadhla claimed Songguo made group 'to distract the world from their crimes'.

SPALGLEANN – At a press conference earlier, Free Market Party leader Saorla Ní Chadhla accused the government of Songguo of setting up the Mohrist Revolutionary Front. Ms. Ní Chadhla made the announcement following the latest MRF attack, which took place yesterday. The attack left 13 people dead and 41 wounded, according to the latest government report.

The press conference, which was held at the FMP's Spálgleann Offices, began at 12:30 EST.

"I am appalled. I am appalled that the MRF keeps killing us. I am appalled that the government can do nothing to stop it. They are not strong enough to stop it. However, I am disgusted by the fact that a disgustingly barbaric nation is behind this. I believe it is obvious that Songguo set up the MRF.

"It makes sense, if you give it some thought. The 23 August attacks held the world forgot about the atrocities committed by Songguo in Siamat. These bastards are murdering innocent women. I've heard stories that the slants have even been raping children, some as young as two years old. It is disgusting. What will the Walker government do about this? Nothing! What will the blood-sucking Euclean Community do about this? Nothing! What will the Asterian owned Community of Nations do about this? Nothing! Well, my friends we will do something! These savages need to go back to their rice fields and bugger the hell off" she told members of the press.

Ms. Saorla Ní Chadhla has officially led the party since 20 September, but played the role of de facto leader following the resignation of her successor, Pádraigín Ó Baoighill, on 31 August. She refused to answer any questions from reporters.

The government has largely downplayed the issue, with Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank Casarnach dismissing her claims. He told reporters that: "At this time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cannot confirm any of what Ms. Ní Chadhla said. She receives no official briefings from REG or the SFB, and everything she said must be taken with a grain of salt".

"Songguo's activities in Siamat are deeply concerning to this government, especially in regards to reports of human rights violations, at this time there is nothing to indicate they had any involvement in the 23 August attacks" he said.

Critics of Ms. Ní Chadhla were quick to point out that her claims were unfounded.

"This nut has nothing to back her claims" Deputy Leader of the Social Democrats Stiofán N. Suibhne said in a statement. "Where did she get this information? It sounds like an outlandish conspiracy. She wants nothing but attention and should not be taken seriously".

Laphun, Siamat - Following the intensity of the QTO invasion of Siamat and the subsequent Negaran counterattack, Pope Joseph was allowed by the Siamati government to finally enter his native country. During the proceedings of the Crisis, he was barred from entering on grounds not made clear by the Siamati people, but expressed it was for his own safety despite claiming to have the situation under control. Now, with the tensions down, Negaran soldiery patrolling the country and QTO forces on the retreat; the Pope was allowed to visit his native state.

Joseph has been in Laphun for two days and in that time he has been at the forefront of working in soup kitchens, as well as unloading supplies sent forth from the Catholic Relief Effort. Dressed in simple clothing, not his Papal Regalia, Joseph has been touring the city of Laphun across all its districts. Today, in particular, he has been found across the hard hit suburbs, visiting people of both Catholic and different beliefs in an attempt to show solidarity through compassion. His efforts have attracted much of the attention of the local Catholic clergy, whom have assisted the holy father in his endeavour. Many have opened up what remains of their churches to those with no homes as temporary residences.

His Holiness has also spent time speaking to local Negaran Officers, as well as Siamati politicians, in an attempt to intensify his humanitarian efforts for the situation. He has, despite the difference in faith, visited many of the local barracks' to visit the soldiers of Negara and Siamat whom were stationed in the city; as its defendants or its liberators.

One of our correspondents whom travelled with His Holiness to Siamat managed to receive the key elements of a small speech he delivered on the steps of the largest chapel in the city; that of St. Xavier of Chiang Mai. "It is with great travesty that I see the streets of Laphun foundered and destroyed. Her infrastructure weakened. But this is nothing in comparison to the resilience and determination shown by you, the young flock, whom are present here. Many will have lost loved ones, an ache we all know really, but this makes it no less comforting. These are troubling times, but it is only through the faith in God that we may persevere this travesty. Laphun, as a boy growing up in Chiang Mai, was a resonating sound of wealth, affluence and prestige for the Siamat nation. But let that become the people of Siamat, not a city nor a singular person. Let ourselves rebuild, not only our cities and towns and villages and roads, but let us rebuild our consciousness, our humanity, and let us this be a building block on becoming a better human being as we help our fellow man."

CINTA RESIGNS AMID MEDIA STORM

ARMY PUBLISHES EVIDENCE OF SONGHUA, QTO INVOLVEMENT IN SIAMAT

Image
President Cinta explained his decision to resign in a press conference last Saturday.

"It is with a heavy heart that I resign, understanding that the institutions of this country require a leader who can not only bring to bear their own principles, but also the trust of the senior leadership of the country. Without the support of the senior institutions and officials of the country, I cannot bring to bear as President the powers I need to effectively govern the country. As a result, it seems wiser to abandon the mantle of leadership of the country I love so. As has been made clear beforehand, my successor, Jida Ambonta, will take up the reins in my absence."

Heavy words from the office of the President amid a media storm that appears to have grasped the highest echelons of the Negaran Republican Army; a vast quantity of processed documents, including intelligence reports, satellite imagery, and recordings from prisoner interrogations and field operations in Siamat (the former often censored to preserve the safety of the subjects in the face of potential domestic backlash) has revealed extensively and almost beyond a doubt the fact of QTO involvement in the recent Siamati conflict, both by training and supplying Siamati rebel forces and directly deploying troops in the field to engage Siamati and NRA forces as far as the outskirts of Laphun. The documents have lead the legislative coalition and other parts of the government to more closely examine the NRA's security privileges, with many alleging that the NRA has taken "a step too far" by concealing these details from the public.

Certain policy think tanks have been quick to defend the NRA's actions as being vital to preventing an escalation to the conflict. With thousands of Siamati dead, however, it seems likely that the emergent intelligence documents will cause a further crisis of confidence between Kota Merdeka and Laphun, even while negotiations are underway to increase the Negaran troop presence in Siamat as a result of the recent crisis. General Kida Tani and a number of senior NRA officials behind the decision to conceal the information from the public have been called upon to resign from their posts.

At the same time, President Ambonta, sworn in this morning as President Cinta's successor, has been quick to try and mend bridges with the Siamati administration. In published remarks made to the Siamati Cabinet-in-exile in Kota Merdeka, as well as the rest of President Cinta's cabinet, President Ambonta has pledged that "no such trespass will ever be permitted to take place on Siamati soil," and that "Negara owes a debt of blood to our southern neighbour for the sacrifices made in the last few weeks."

Negaran officials in international organizations such as the Community of Nations have been quick to officially condemn Songguo's actions in the Siamati theatre now that the NRA has officially taken to acknowledging QTO's direct involvement in the conflict. Among other steps taken, proposals have been made in the National Assembly for a travel ban on Songhua nationals (likely to be defeated on account of Negara's international commitments) while the Negaran embassing in Tianjing has announced that its operations are to be withdrawn indefinitely by the end of the calendar year.

It is difficult to accurately gauge the effects of the recent conflict in Siamat and Ambonta's moves towards disengaging with Songguo, but it seems that the conflict marks a low point not reached since the Southwest Frontier War. The combination of the conflict and Negara's declared intent to cut off diplomatic contacts with Songguo have left an open question in the air about a conflict that was once thought frozen. It is to be hoped that the Ambonta administration manages to recover some of the conciliatory dialogue that was captured in the posturing and negotiations of last year- but given the obvious Songhua desire to expand the conflict as demonstrated by recent events in Siamat, this seems unlikely.

GOVT LEAK REVEALS SONGGUO AIDED MRF IN AUGUST ATTACKS
Bombshell report shows that REG, SFB believe Songhua intelligence agency helped MRF.

REG Director John Birch-Kelly inside the REG Central Offices in Spálgleann. Birch-Kelly has held the post since August 2014.

SPALGLEANN – A government leak as revealed that Glytter's two intelligence agencies, Riarachán Eolais Glítteann (REG - Glytteronian Information Administration) and the Seirbhís Faisnéise Baile (SFB - Domestic Intelligence Service), believe the Songhua intelligence - the MSJ (Sensitive Affairs Bureau) - played a role in the 23 August attacks.

The document, which is part of a greater report that was produced by the Ministry of the Interior for the Cabinet, was obtained by GBF from a source close to the Taoiseach.

An exert from the document reads: "After thorough investigation both REG and the SFB report that the MRF obtained crucial information from Songhua intelligence before the 23 August attacks. Among the information given to them were floor plans of several embassies in Ambasáidúiche as well as information regarding their security detail and procedures. The SFB is able to confirm that this was the case for the Gaullican, Asterian, and Negaran embassies - though it is important to note the latter was not targeted by the MRF".

The leak follows the publication of documents regarding the recent Siamati Crisis by the Negaran Republican Army, showing that the Songhua military and other members of QTO have played a key role in the insurgency in the South Coian country. The Sainam region has been home to a series of devastating proxy wars since the mid-twentieth century. Eastern governments and media outlets have been raising concerns over the insurgency since late August.

Free Market Party leader Saorla Ní Chadhla claimed yesterday that the Songhua government created the MRF in order to "help the world forgot about the atrocities committed by Songguo in Siamat". Ms. Ní Chadhla was initially rebuked by many within the government, but the leak seems to indicate there was some legitimacy to her claims.

Foreign Minister Frank Casarnach held a brief press conference outside Clare House after news of the leak broke.

"Obviously the government had to refute Ms. Ní Chadhla. May I remind you that her claims are still unfounded, and that REG and the SFB did not find anything to indicate the MSJ personally crafted the MRF. Our intelligence agencies found that the MSJ cooperated with this group, what their exact motivation was is currently unknown. However, this government - for once - is inclined to agree with Ms. Ní Chadhla that the Songhua collaborated with the MRF in order to distract the international press from their activities in Siamat" he told reporters before declining to comment any further.

In a series of tweets Ms. Ní Chadhla appeared to boast about her accusations, saying that: "See? I was right! Walker can't keep you safe, but I can!".

It is currently unknown what affect this will have on Glyt-Songhua relations. However, a spokesperson from the Taoiseach's Office confirmed that Taoiseach Walker is "reviewing all possible options, including potential sanctions".

DEBATE NIGHT
Andrew Altman (L) and Ronald White (C) attended the first Debate of the 2016 Elections last night - a very anticipated night for Asteria, and the world

Debate Night -
More than 60 million people tuned in last night to watch the first Presidential Debate between Senator Andrew Altman of Eaglen and President Ronald White, who is running for his 3rd Term in the White House. It was a much-anticipated debate, as two very different ideologies clashed over some of the most important topics on the last decade. For the first of three Presidential Debates, the Nominees will be responding to questions pertaining mainly to foreign policy and international events, as they are the among the most pressing. Here are some of the highlights of the October 9th Debate:

1. What will be your foreign policy in regards to Kaxakh and the CSS?

"That likely will not change, given the aggression that the Communists have showed recently" White said. "Teslachastki broke it's socialist chains and it's people had been fighting for liberty and democracy, but as they always have, the Reds have squandered any hope of Democracy. Their armies stormed through the nation - killing indiscriminately - and sucked them back into their poisonous influence. Not only does this reinforce the fact that we should not trust them, but it shows how easily they will turn on their own allies."

"You should be a writer, Mr. President" Altman said sarcastically. "Or a propagandist. The amount of rhetoric in your speech is ridiculous. I've never been a fan of Communism, much less have I ever been a supporter of Kaxakh, but we need to understand that we're better off at least on the same page as one another than breathing down each others' necks. The White Administration, and indeed most presidents during the Phony War, has pushed for containment, but we must explore a policy of co-existence. We must be willing to cooperate and better-communicate with Kaxakh if we are to maintain the peace."

2. Songguo has been known for being fiercely anti-Asterian, and often calls the Federation 'imperialist'. How will your foreign policy deal with this?

"It is a similar situation as with Kaxakh, only this time, they have attacked a sovereign, independent nation. It is unacceptable. I have already began issuing sanctions on Songguo for their actions, and I hope to be able to provide humanitarian support to their people in the future."

"I do agree with the President in that Songguo's attack on Siamat is a clearly little more than an invasion, and for them to do such a thing while calling Asteria imperialists is among some of the clearest hypocrisy I've ever seen, and that's saying something considering that I've spent most of my life in politics. We must do all we can to assist the Siamati people without becoming involved in their war."

3. The average price of gas in the Federation is around $4.50, but in some areas, it costs as much as $6/gallon. How do you plan to handle the Oil Crisis? Keep in mind that this embargo is the result of the Federation's intervention in Nuranz, so what would be your approach in regards to the War?

"The reason the Federation intervened in Nuranz to stop the genocide that claimed more than four million lives. The recent struggle in the city of Mecica, where 37 Asterians were killed, was the result of Samastara's support of Badawiyan genocide of the Bahian peoples on Nuranz. Samastara is supporting terrorist forces both politically and militarily, and thus it is important that we retaliate - not give in. I believe that we must increase our military presence in the region to deal the last deadly blow to Al-Haras, and then move on to destroy this 'Badawiyan Liberation Army' Only then, can we establish lasting peace in Nuranz."

"But, Mr. President, how do we do that without oil?" asked Altman

White seemed hesitant and uncomfortable with the question, which jumped out at many viewers, for it would not be the only time his logic would be questioned during the debate. "It is not a shortage of oil, Senator Altman. The same amount of oil still exists, it's not as though we're running out of it-"

"but it costs five times more than it did at the start of this year" Altman would interrupt. "There may not be a shortage necessarily, but the average Asterian family simply can't keep up with the cost of filling up their gas tanks. Businesses are hemorrhaging money all the same as a result, Mr. President. And it is during this time, where gas costs more than it ever has in the Federation, that you want to open a series of military operations in Nuranz that will take the little oil we have and throw it towards a war we can end right now. You can't have your cake and eat it too, Ronald - either we continue dumping money to keep sufficient oil supplies or we cut back on oil consumption. Either way, a campaign in Nuranz is simply put, a stupid move."

"And tell us, Senator Altman, how you would address the Oil Crisis and the War in Nuranz" Moderator Cara Lesky intervened.

"It's simpler than we're making it" Altman would say. "The Federation has done it's job - we've restored peace, order, and offered security to the people of Nuranz while forcing Al-Haras into a position it will likely never recover from. However, we are out-staying our welcome, and the people of Nuranz are becoming annoyed. I have written a detailed plan - found on my website - to please the PENB, to please DITO, and to bring an end to the war."

"Would you mind briefly explaining this plan, Senator?"

"Certainly, Mr. Valdez" Altman began. "We will call upon the Community of Nations to assist in the establishment of a separate, independent Badawiyan state formed from the Badawiyan provinces in Nuranz. The Federation will pull it's forces out of Nuranz and allow the CoN to begin peacekeeping efforts, to ensure that the people are safe, fed, protected, and that groups like Al-Haras can never threaten them again."

"You mean to pass our burden to someone else?" White would argue.

"No, we have fulfilled our promise" Altman countered. "The Federation has successfully stopped the genocide in Nuranz as we promised we would- it's people no longer starve en masse, they no longer must fear Al-Haras coming to their towns. It is time for us to pass the responsibility of maintaining and keeping peace and human life to the international organization dedicated to just that: the Community of Nations. With this, and the establishment of an independent state out of the Badawiyan Nuranz, we will have satisfied all parties involved in this conflict. Samastara and the PENB will have a state consisting of, and controlled by, Badawiyans. The Bahian majority of Nuranz will no longer have to worry about Badawiyan insurrection and rebellion, and most importantly, no more Asterian blood will soak Nurani soil."

What other plans do you have in regards to foreign policy?

"Very many" said White. "In my Third Term, it will be a major point to improve relations between the Federation and Blekenjegen, as well as with Vredlandia, and strengthening our relationship Roeselle. I plan to expand the Joint Defense Force and complete Roeselle's induction into DITO, while continuing to keep our solid stance against the Communist and authoritarian powers of the world."

"It will be a primary goal of my administration, if elected, to drastically improve relations with our neighbors in Senouillac, as well as Glytter, and the Badawiyan states." Altman would answer. "We must strengthen our ties with our neighbors, and heal old wounds. For too long, Asteria has either been loved or hated, but we can change that."

So who won? According to a poll taken after the debates, it was Senator Altman by a landslide. 64% said Altman won the debate, while only 24% said it was White, with the rest saying there was no clear winner. Official polls put Altman at a 72% approval rating - far more than White's 30% - and recent studies show that most of the Asterian northwest and east coast are Liberal - even Montgomery, which has been pro-Conservatist the last two elections.

The next Debate will take place on October 19th, where the topic will focus around economic issues rather than foreign policy.

"NOTHING BUT A PACK OF LIES"
Senior Officials Tear Into DITO-Fabricated Leaks

Image Image Image Image

Ying Zian (@YingZ )
October 10 2016 05:00 | Tianjing, Songguo

Tianjing, Songguo -

Senior government officials from the Grand Assembly and the State Council hit back hard today over a series of alarming attempts yesterday by Glytteronian and Negaran officials to incite fear and hatred against the Federal Union and the Qingzhou Treaty Organization. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Qin Lien was asked about the leak of supposed classified images and documents by the Negaran military, as well as the subsequent resignation of Negaran President Yudyi Cinta and the severing of diplomatic ties by the Negaran government, as well as proposed travel bans. She stated, "It remains unclear why the Negaran government continues to propagate hateful and malicious fabrications not only about Songguo and the Qingzhou Treaty Organization, but also against the people of Siamat who have risen to throw out the corrupt, authoritarian government in Laphun. It is disgraceful and shameful that Negara is using such thinly-veiled excuses and baseless lies to slander our country to the world and cut off important diplomatic dialogue, as well as jeopardizing the situation of thousands of citizens of both our countries who live and do business in the other. It is clear that the Negaran government is only seeking to justify their repressive and antidemocratic actions in aiding the Laphun oligarchy in working to crush the rebellions in Siamat by smearing QTO to the world and we will not stand for such mendacious defamation." She injected a moment of slight levity into the press conference as well. "I had never thought I would say this, but I already miss President Cinta. He may have been boorish, incompetent, belligerent, and willing to crush domestic and foreign rivals without mercy, but at least he understood that dialogue between our two great countries is the most precious thing that holds us together."

However, leaks from Glytter later in the day led the Foreign Ministry to convene a second press conference, in conjunction with MSJ Director Ai Jianjun. The MSJ director angrily denied accusations from the REG and the SFB, Glytter's intelligence services, that the MSJ had had any sort of involvement in the bombings that shook Glytter's capital on August 23rd.
"I am appalled that anyone would be willing to suggest, even for their own selfish political ends, that the Sensitive Affairs Bureau would ever support such criminal acts that have caused so much pain to the Glytteronian nation. I can categorically state that no MSJ elements have ever been involved in aiding such subversive terrorist plots, and frankly I find it offensive that such a thing would even be suggested. These bombings put Songhua citizens and public servants directly in the line of fire and to suggest that it was all some grand conspiracy of foreign spies is beyond the pale. This is nothing but a pack of lies." Visibly furious, he also questioned the timing and source of the leak, saying it seemed "suspiciously coordinated". Qin Lien went on to make a further statement regarding the government's reaction.
"It is reprehensible for the Glytteronian government to be trying to draw attention away from their own security policy failures by whipping up hatred towards imaginary foreign spies. These carefully crafted fabrications seem cut of very much the same cloth as the Gaullican and Negaran fabrications we've seen directed at the Qingzhou Treaty Organization and Songguo in particular over the last few months, and the fact that Foreign Minister Casarnach has not dismissed this issue is simply a further sign of imperialist forces continuing to relentlessly conspire against Songguo and Coian people as a whole."

Deputy Lin Huihong, a noted firebrand in the Grand Assembly, held his own press conference, unleashing a blistering series of attacks on both Glytter and Negara, and made a surprising announcement that he would travel to the Provisional East Namkwok Republic. "The fact that the Glytteronian government, a pack of imperialist stooges in the pocket of exploitative international conglomerates, would eventually begin conspiring with the gang of reactionary hooligans that is the new junta that has emerged in Negara should be surprising to no one. Negara seeks to deflect blame for their appalling assault on free expression in Siamat, while Glytter's government is faced with discontent and appalling security failures. As usual, when the imperialists need someone to blame, they need look no further than the Qingzhou Treaty Organization and its supposed vast network of spies and huge globe-spanning conspiracies and secret invasions! I have scarcely ever witnessed such a vicious and concerted effort to slander a nation and smear its public image to the world than the one that DITO and its pawns are currently engaged in against Songguo. As Director Ai said, the accusations that have been leveled today against the Federal Union are nothing but a pack of lies. They are worthless, they are baseless, they are malicious fabrications calculatingly designed by a cabal of murderous, power-hungry, and avaricious people filled with hate, and they should be treated as such. In light of the Negaran falsehoods about the supposed invasion into the East Namkwon region, I wish to announce that I will personally be heading to Had Mai in the next week to meet with the brave rebels and patriots who have fought so fiercely for their freedom against the jackboot of the Negaran military."
Government officials are expected to announce the implementation of new travel restrictions in response to the Negaran moves shortly.

CLP Rally in St. Martin slams Songguo
Calls made for Sanctions following government leaks

St. Martin's Square, St. Martin
October 11th - A crowd of thousands filled St. Martin’s Square yesterday, as Marie-Domminique Saint-Simmon spoke a rally for the Christian Labor Party. Ms. Saint-Simmon is the daughter of sitting Prime Minister Vivienne Saint-Simmon(SSDC) and the late Ambassador Urbain Saint-Simmon(CLP). This was the first public event attended by a member of the Saint-Simmon family since the Funeral and Internment of Urbain and his son Sebastian over a month ago following their brutal murder in Glytter during the 23 August MRF Uprisings. Prime Minister Vivienne has yet to make any non-governmental appearances and has, some suspect under the auspices of protecting her party, not yet spoken out about what happened on the Twenty Third of August. Her spokesmen has said that she condemns the attacks and is still distraught, though lawmakers from all parties say that the Prime Minister is still performing her duties admirably.

Monday’s rally featured a passionate speech by Marie-Domminique. Several times she expressed her sorrow at the passing of her beloved father and brother. When speaking of her brother, she mournfully said, “If in this world an organization deems it right and just to brutally end the life of a child, then I say..I say that organization deserves to be persecuted and driven into the ground.” Later on in her speech, one extended by several minutes of tears and silence, Marie-Domminique called for the government to officially launch an investigation into the MRF and to actively seek out and destroy these cells, regardless of where they are.

“The MRF, the terrorists who murdered my brother and father and so many like them, are not just a Glytteronian problem. When they attacked the embassy, they attacked us as a whole nation. We must assist our Glytteronian brethren in eliminating this scourge from the earth. We are both founding members of BIH are we not? No more shall families have to suffer as I have. No more should fathers and mothers see their children die. The MRF are long from gone. They are not some one-shot terrorists. These bastards are still out there murdering people. Just last week they bombed a train. How long until they kill another Senouillacan Citizen? We as citizens of the nation must demand that Senouillac be allowed to assist in putting down these terrorists.”

During the last part of the passionate speech, which many of the CLP and RC are championing on social media, Marie-Domminique lashed out at Songguo for its perceived role in the attacks. This is following the Glytteronian leaks that Songguo’s MSJ/Sensitive Affairs Bureau played a role in the attacks last August.

“I am sure many of you are aware of the recent leaks by our comrades in Glytter. Their government has learned that the terrorists in the MRF are sponsored by Songguo. This is a deplorable act for a so-called civilized nation to commit. The body of my brother and father and countless others rests at the feet of Songguo, the MRF, and the QTO. We as a nation, we as Senouillacans, can not stand for this assault on our very nation and selves. How long will it be before another Songguo plot kills even more of our people? I mean, this nation is already invading another. They don’t respect nation’s or people’s. They killed our citizens. We must punish those responsible.”

Other speakers at the event included a rare appearance by Axel Laffitte, the Commissioner of Defense, and Francois De Yures. Support for Domminique on social media skyrocketed, with the hashtags #Respect23 and #NotOneMore surging to the top of national charts. Several members of the SSDC have urged caution against hastily applying blame to any foreign nation and urged their constituents not to retaliate too strongly. Nonetheless, the Union is still reeling from the 23 August attacks and support for some action, any action, is high across the board. La Gazette de l'Union has learned that an investigation has been launched by the Justice and Restitution Commission in cooperation with the Union Intelligence Services(UIS) into the Glytteronian leak’s claims. President Fren Martel has promised that if the investigation does indicate that Songguo was linked to the attacks of the MRF last August, then he will move to sanction the state. On the topic of providing military aid to exterminating the MRF, he commented it was available only if Glytter asked.

GLYTTER CELEBRATES KING'S BIRTHDAY NATIONWIDE
Thousands attend parades celebrating King's Day in honour of Kenneth IV

Crowds gather outside Spálgleann City Hall in anticipation of the arrival of the King and the Royal Family.

SPALGLEANN – The King celebrated his birthday and was joined by thousands of people from across the country.

Kenneth IV, who turned 25 today, attended several events across the capital today. He began the day by eating a birthday brunch at the South Spálgleann Shelter for Women and Girls, where he was joined by his husband - Prince Louis, his Mother, the Countess of Barraerach, the shelter's staff, and many of its residents.

A parade was later held on the Royal Mile, staring at Clochnoc Fortress and ending at Spálgleann City Hall. He was joined by members of the Royal Family, including his sisters - the Princess of Gayls and the Duchess of Invertwinc, his parents, and his uncle - the Prince Elton. An estimated 100,000 people were in attendance, thousands of which gathered outside city hall for the King's Birthday Address.

"I thank you all so very much for your kind wishes. It is my deepest honor to serve as your monarch, and it is times like this when I am reminded how much the Glytteronian people deserves a monarch who truly serves them. It is my sincerest hope that I serve you the best way I can" he said.

His Majesty also raised concerns over rising tensions and violence across the world. Kenneth IV is known for his work with groups such as the International White Cross and is often an advocate for groups affected by conflict and natural disasters. He told the crowd that: "Our world has been devastated by recent attacks. Whether they be here at home or continents away, we must ensure the victims of these attacks are treated with the utmost dignity and respect".

A birthday dinner was held at St. Ellen's Palace, with a nearly a hundred guests in attendance. The Royal Family was joined by the Grand Duke and Duchess of Raglan, the Princely Family of Kesselbourg, members of the Hellenic Xanthopoulos family, the Gaullican President and Estmerish Stateholder - Jean Vallette and Thomas Kaufman, Taoiseach Alexis Walker, and other leading national figures.

The monarch's birthday is officially known as Lá an Rí (King's Day) and is a national holiday, observed by all public and private employers. Parades are typically held in cities across the country and are often accompanied by outdoor markets selling monarchist and national paraphernalia. The day is seen as a celebration of the monarchy, which has existed in some capacity since 720 CE. Members of the Royal Family often attend events across the country, serving as representatives of the monarch.

Kenneth IV has served as monarch since his accession to the throne on 5 August 2010. He was chosen by his uncle, Elton II, to serve as his successor in 2008. Kevin, as he was then known, was named Prince of Gayls. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Royal Glytteronian as a combat medic, and has continued to serve as a naval reservist. Upon his ascension to the throne he assumed the regnal name "Kenneth IV" in order to stick with the more traditional name. The King began a relationship with Louis MacTomin, a member of boy-band group No Direction, in 2012. The two were married last year on 24 October and are preparing to celebrate their one year anniversary. The couple is expected a child via surrogate due in April of 2017.

The King's approval ratings are very high, typically scoring in the mid to high 90s.

"We have a good King" 87 year old Spálgleann resident Molly Donegan, who attended the Spálgleann Parade, said. "He is humble, respectful. He reminds me a lot of his grandmother - Ellen II. He serves as a model of excellence for our children".

Orla Curren, 14, a resident of the South Spálgleann Shelter for Women and Girls, said: "I was amazed that His Majesty accepted our offer to host him for his birthday brunch. But he did, and I am so happy he did".

Kenneth IV received well wishes from across the world, as well as from many at home. The hashtag #happybirthdayHM was trending in Glytter for most of Tuesday.

Military Council Continues with Tribunals

FORMER GOVERNMEMT AT RISK

The Military Council suspends elections again, for another eight months following renewed reports of Adunian Terrorism activity, as well as continuing the investigation into the government of former Prime Minister Aslam. Currently, the amount of military tribunals has increased to nearly sixty five in total with 45 of said tribunals resulting in either state sanctioned executions or life sentences in Nahjeed National Prison. Outside of the large national level military tribunals several smaller provincial tribunals have resulted in many more former government members to be executed or life sentences in various prisons.

The ruling council of military generals has also announced a complete travel ban on all citizens to leave the nation until the numerous investigations are over. In conjunction with this announcement the council has also saw it fit to release thousands of government employees, judges, military personnel, and educators following the escape of Aslam suspected to be conducted with assistance from a number of former government members. Though currently being labeled a purge by a number of outside news stations.

With the situation developing between Glytter and Samastara still developing two statements have been released concerning citizens or former citizens of Samastara. One statement states, "The current government of Samastara while preferring to try the decadent Prime Minister in a Military Tribunal, will consent to trying the former Prime Minister in the International Court for Crimes Against Humanity and Numerous violations of personal freedoms." A second statement was released along with several pages worth of names demanding their immediate extradition for being linked to corruption within the Aslam Government.

SMASTARA TO END NEGOTIATIONS

Following reported negotiations between the Military Council and the Government of Gaullica, Samastara has consented to end the oil embargo against Negara, DITO Euclean nations with an exception on those involved in Nuranz, and the food tariffs against PENB by Gaullica are expected to end. Not much else has been released by the military Council.... Read More

SMASTARA TO CONTINUE SUPPORT

Recent Attacks by the Badawiyan Liberation Front in Nuranz against DITO forces has caused the group to be labeled a terrorist group by Asterian Officials. The ruling council has released several statements which can be summed up in these few words, "The Badawiyan Liberation Front that has fought both Asterian forces and Al-Haras was formed not because they supported the so called genocide, but because Badawiyans wish to seek independence from a state that no longer protects them and has caused them to take up arms against foreign imperialists!" More information is being released... Read More

KAIZHOU PORT SHUT DOWN OVER "HEALTH CONCERNS"
Mainland Authorities Suppress Media Coverage Of Disease Outbreak

An image secretly captured mere hours ago from within the city of Kaizhou.

Baishadao, Songguo -

The sea and airports of the Songhua city of Kaizhou have been shut down by government authorities under the auspices of "concerns for public health", while reports have escaped the city of a major outbreak of some sort of contagious disease. Songhua authorities have refused to give much information of what exactly is happening in Kaizhou, and observers noted that state Internet censors were busily deleting thousands of posts simply for mentioning the city. However, the Post has received information from credible sources within the city indicating that Internet and phone service have been entirely shut down, and that military and Interior Security Service personnel were aiding Health Ministry officials in implementing quarantine protocols against a number of buildings and even entire districts of the city. The situation seems markedly similar to an incident the city suffered in 1985, prior to the January 9th Incident and the restoration of calm in the wake of the 6-6 Crisis, where marauding Red Bird Guards breached a government laboratory (Special Projects Laboratory 640) jointly run by the Health Ministry and the State Council Research Office and accidentally released a quantity of weaponized anthrax into the surrounding environment. The 1985 outbreak's details have never been fully disclosed by the government, but it is estimated that anywhere from 500 to 1,500 people may have died, and as many as 4,000 may have been infected. Songguo has also had several other similar outbreaks connected to suspected biowarfare laboratories, many of them around the time of the 6-6 Crisis, but others as recently as 2007. In an eerie similarity to the 1985 Kaizhou incident, the quarantined zones seem to, from what reports have emerged, be downwind of Special Laboratory 640, which is still operational.

Bioweapons expert and infectious disease specialist Joan Blaithe was willing to speak about the emerging reports from Kaizhou, and noted that it appeared to be another example of the Songhua bioweapons program losing control of a sample in the middle of a populated area. "The Songhua bioweapons program has repeatedly been tied to outbreaks around their labs, especially of anthrax. Most of it was surrounding the 6-6 Crisis, when in many cases you had soldiers or Red Birds storming abandoned labs and breaking vials they didn't know anything about, but there have been other accidents too- Xianghai in 2007, Yinhu in 1992. It isn't entirely clear what sort of outbreak this is, if this is an anthrax outbreak or something else, but the entire city being put under lockdown like this would make it orders of magnitude larger than any previous containment breach. The '85 Kaizhou outbreak was the deadliest bioweapons containment accident on record- of course, the Songhua deny it was their anthrax, they say it was tainted meat from a poultry farm that had been buying illegal substandard food- but even then, only three wards in the city center, around the lab, were locked down by the military. A total shutoff of Internet, phone service, and travel is almost reminiscent of what they've done in the past in the Lushan Archipelago during the Chau Risings, so I think it's safe to say whatever outbreak has occurred in Kaizhou is extremely serious."

The Songhua Health Ministry released a terse statement saying that further information would be provided when "the Ministry is satisfied that there is no further threat to public health and safety".

KAIZHOU OUTBREAK IDENTIFIED AS ANTHRAX
Ministry of Interior Security Says Investigation Into Chau Republican Army Involvement "Ongoing"

Image Image Image Image

Gabriel Chiang (@gchiang )
12 October 2016 9:00 PM | Baishadao, Songguo

Baishadao, Songguo -

Following a lockdown and military-enforced quarantine in the city of Kaizhou, the Songhua government has broken its near-silence on the situation, which many had speculated might have been related to a government biodefense research lab located in the city. The Health Ministry confirmed at a press conference at 8:00 PM Tianjing time that the illness afflicting the city appears to be a strain of anthrax or a similar weapon, and estimates the number of persons afflicted by the disease at "at least 1,563", according to Health Ministry spokeswoman Liang Hao. Shortly thereafter, the Ministry of Interior Security released a statement indicating they were "seriously pursuing links to ethnic-Chau separatist terror groups", and that "based on information from the State Council Research Office and the Health Ministry, there is no reason to believe that the outbreak is related to Special Laboratory 640."

The Prince of Yan released a brief statement from the Daming Palace shortly thereafter, addressing the nation and in particular the people of Kaizhou. The Prince said that "heaven and earth will be moved and everything possible done to aid those who have been sickened and to restore normalcy and calm to Kaizhou, and the perpetrators of this horrific attack on our nation and people will be brought to justice." The Health Ministry, meanwhile, indicated that biocontainment units and highly trained hazmat teams and specialized equipment were being sent to Kaizhou as quickly as possible, with the help of the military.

Outside observers noted that Songhua censors were no longer deleting or hiding posts mentioning the city and the ongoing outbreak, and the Imperial Household Agency announced that plans were being formulated for the Emperor to visit Kaizhou as soon as possible.

Changes in language curriculum called for

Group of Members of Congress call for a broader range of languages taught in national curriculum

Rhaetia's education curriculum must reflect world affairs and economic needs, write a group of MC's (Members of Congress) in an open letter to the Minister of Education.

Currently, foreign language teaching is only required from the age of 12 until 15, with some 92% of pupils taking Caeseni for their Foreign Language Baccalaureate. Only 44% pass with a "good" mark.

A letter, which bears the signatures of 15 MC's, calls on the Ministry of Education to expand resources for foreign language teaching, as well as making it compulsory from the age of 10 until 16. Knowledge of foreign languages is invaluable for business and trade, as well as for closer cooperation with Rhaetia's neighbours, say this group.

The letter also states that a wider range of languages should be taught, including "languages most relevant to the greater Euclean community of nations".

With Caeseni by far being the most popular language for Bacc, the others include Estmerish (3%), Balaguari (2%) and Gaullican (2%). Surprisingly, only 0.8% of foreign language students take a Bacc in Kaxakhian, or any Abaric language despite Rhaetia's membership of the CSS and its close ties with Abaric Euclea.

Across Euclea, Estmerish is the most known foreign language, closely followed by Gaullican and Weranian, with Kaxakhian being a distant fourth. With Rhaetian trade expanding in Eastern Euclea, the letter stresses that more widespread knowledge of Estmerish and Gaullican will be “vital”.

However, Caesena does remain the principal economic partner of Rhaetia, with much imports coming from their as well as close to a majority of Rhaetian exports going there. The linguistic ties with Rhaetian are also an important factor.

“When you think about how important the historical and cultural ties with Caesena are, you can understand why Caeseni is an important language for Rhaetians to learn,” says Professor Theresa Lutsil, who specialises in Euclean languages in the University of Curia and has recently published a Carthoese dictionary, “Rhaetian originated from Vulgar Solarian, as does Caeseni, Carthoese and many Euclean languages. I hope Rhaetian children will continue this tradition of learning Caeseni culture.”

Guita Rethun, a student at the University, is studying Badawiyan languages. She does not accept the arguments of the group of MC’s.

“I think it’s good if we Rhaetians study other languages, but they are only mentioning the languages of Eastern imperialists. We must look broader than that: Abaric languages are more important in helping rid the world of imperialism, and languages of Coius and Bahia, as well as Badawiya, will be especially important in the future.”

A civil servant in the Ministry of Education, who wishes to remain anonymous and stresses he does not speak for the whole Ministry, said it is more important to focus on teaching important regional languages, including Caeseni, Balaguari and, surprisingly, Saephian.

“If we as a nation wish to get along with our neighbours in peace and have good trade with them, we must learn their language and they must learn ours. I particularly feel that it is important to learn Saephian – only about 1% of ethnic Rhaetian pupils study Saephian for Baccalaureate – as wider knowledge of Saephian would no doubt be invaluable in improving ethnic ties. We must recognize that Rhaetian is no longer the sole language of the People’s Republic, even if it is the primary one.”

Analysts at the Gasetta Naziunala see the very fact that this debate is happening now as a sign that the new government under Silvia Verreràs is relaxing many hard-line positions that used to be enforced by the PPR (Partido populara retica, or Rhaetian People’s Party), including the superiority of Rhaetian culture and language and cultural “isolation” from the Eastern “imperialists”. The future of Rhaetia is beginning to look ever more open. It’s a small but promising beginning.

Samastara to Unite Badawiya?

THE RISING POWER OF SAMASTARA

With the further escalation of the War in Nuranz reaching new levels, the current council of Samastara has saw it fit to push for a peacekeeping resolution through the General Assembly of the Community of Nations, instead of waiting for Asteria to attempt to push their delayed initiative forward. Samastara has called on many other Badawiyan nations to support them in this endeavour and has claimed that they are willing to deploy nearly four thousand troops in the peacekeeping initiative if it were to pass in order to and we quote from a recent press conference, “Secure Badawiya for all Badawiyans and finally bring us all together as one, a united Badawiyan Front against all aggressors foreign, and domestic.” While this may be seen as more of the never ending propaganda spewing forth from both Asteria and Samastara, this holds some merit, with Samastara herself trying many times to unite Badawiya under one Federation, with the United Badawiyan Republic in 1961, though they would end up leaving the short lived Republic officially ending it in 1969, after the end of the Eight Day War. Though Samastara has not forgotten these early ideas of Badawiyan Nationalism and they are still extremely prevalent in the modern relations within the nation itself.

Recently, Samastara has leaked several documents of recorded conversations within the Military Council daily meetings with the idea of Samastara attempting to form a new alliance spearheading these talks, and with the Military looking as though it does not wish to give up the position it has retained within Samastara it is more than likely we may see these plans come to fruition in the long run of the history of the nation. These recordings have supposedly been centered around the idea of transforming the current organization, Petroleum Exporting Nations of Badawiya or PENB, into a working alliance, many within the council have also refused to until “PENB is truly Badawiyan.” Meaning that, Samastara wishes to see a united Badawiyan Front come to fruition. Several of our political, and foreign affair correspondents have proposed a wide variety of ways to accomplish this. One such way involves the complete removal of non-Badawiyan nations, such as Fars from PENB, as well as Samastara following the change of rule is looking to finally end its dependence on Western Weaponry and switch to Eastern weaponry with several arms deals put into jeopardy following the embargo between Gaullica and Samastara.

With the possible arrival of a new alliance block in the world, we may see a change in the influence of DITO, QTO, and CSS in Badawiya. While if this so called Badawiya Block was to form it would still more than likely have to gravitate to either the Western or Eastern alliance blocks, and with the various regional conflicts sparking, it is unlikely we will see a complete unification of Badawiya, at least until Badawiyans can put aside their differences.

CARCOSA SEALS AUREAN STRAIT TO PENB OIL TRAFFIC
Senate and House of Tribunes Pass Measure in Retaliation for Embargo

Tankers abruptly denied passage sit in the Murexine Sound.

XXI Locia, Carcosa -

With the PENB embargo against DITO and Euclean nations having recently come to an end, a highly incendiary and controversial bill has managed to pass the House of Tribunes and the Senate in Carcosa, sealing the Aurean Strait to oil tankers and liquefied natural gas vessels sailing under the flag of member states of the PENB. The bill was introduced by the Popular Front Tribune Alonso Kalhaq, aiming to retaliate for the intense pressure that the embargo placed on Carcosa. The city saw massive gas riots in July when the embargo began, and has been plagued by crippling gasoline shortages for the last several months. While highly controversial, the bill was passed thanks to the Popular Front's majorities in both the House and the Senate. It is already attracting widespread criticism as setting a dangerous precedent by repudiating some of the language in the Aurean Convention of 1892, which was established to try and govern the laws of passage within the Aurean Strait.

The bill bans all oil and natural gas traffic in ships flying PENB flags from transiting the Aurean Strait, and authorizes the Port Authority of Carcosa and the military to enforce this ban by boarding and impounding any ships that attempt to violate it. Widely seen as a political stunt, the Carcosian government has stated in the wake of the bill's passage that for the ban to be lifted, they require "certain guarantees" that Carcosian oil, much of which is supplied by pipelines connecting to middlemen in Euclea, will not be severed as they were during the embargo. The city's population is highly polarized over the bill, and already there are reports of minor rioting and outbreaks of violence as supporters and opponents clash in the streets. While many support the bill as an act of revenge on the embargo's architects, others are furious and afraid it will lead to the gas shortages the city has seen being further prolonged.

Dozens of ships have now been told they are not permitted to make a transit of the Strait, and while those approaching from the south will be able to dock at the Port of Carcosa, those vessels approaching from the north through the Sea of Lotuses and the Murexine Sound are essentially stranded. The Carcosian military has deployed several patrol craft and helicopters to enforce the ban, explicitly stating that vessels attempting to violate the transit ban will be boarded and impounded.

Favourite Pets in Werania Revealed, and recent news.
Our survey of the most common dogs and cats in Werania, and updates on recent news.

Most Common Cats and Dogs in Werania

Ever wondered what the most common dogs and cats in Werania are? Our survey results reveal that many users who voted last week were in fact correct, showing that these pets have had a profound influence on society, enough to be easily recognisable as favourites. First off, we have the most common dog in Werania, the Weranic Shepherd.

Image
A Weranic Shepherd

Commonly thought of as one of the most intelligent breeds in the world, often ranking in the top three in contests, Weranic Shepherds have seen widespread adoption throughout most of the world. They are fiercely loyal, able to pick up commands very quickly, and are loving pets. Their intelligence, coupled with strength makes the breed desirable as police, guard and search and rescue dogs, as they are able to quickly learn various tasks and interpret instructions better than other breeds.

Image
A White Warsian Shepherd

The second most common dog in Werania, and one very similar to the Weranic Shepherd, coming from the same stock. They are gentle, very intelligent and learn easily. They are loyal to their family and may be wary around strangers, but are not prone to show shy or fearful behavior. The character of the White Warsian Shepherd is gentler and mellower than that of the working lines of Weranic Shepherd Dog, but are still very protective of their people and dog pack.

Image
A Sutanelan Caerha, or Caerha Cat

The most common cat in Werania, and one imported from Sutanel, where they find great favour with Badawiyan and Kehtic Sutanelans alike. Sutanelan Caerha cats have long, silky coats and elegant, sinuous bodies. They are playful, intelligent, athletic and involved. They bond with humans, but often select a particular member of the family to be their constant companion. They are in turn, very protective of their person. They seek to be "helpful" in any way they can with their humans, and their intelligence is at times remarkable, showing basic problem solving skills. They are easily trained, including deaf Sutanelan Caerha's, both because of their intelligence and their desire to interact with humans.

Image
A Nebelung

The second most common cat in Werania, and one that first appeared in the woodlands of the north, in Bolisia. Nebelung cats are lively, playful, affectionate, good-natured, and intelligent. The cat's mild-mannered state and personality may not always reflect the relatively high level of intelligence often found in the breed. In spite of the fact that it is an active cat, it can live very well indoors. Many owners of the Nebelung cats say that they can act more like dogs at times, being extremely loyal to their owner and family. They are also known for being easily leash trained with use of a proper harness. It enjoys sitting in a lap and being petted, and will follow its favorite person devotedly from room to room. This is a cat that likes routine, and may require a little time to adjust to changes in the household. Early socialization can help it become more adaptable.

Recent News

The Vice-Chancellor, Christina Gothe, talking to reporters

The Vice-Chancellor has revealed that the Nacht-Tor is shocked by the Carcosan blockade of the Aurean Strait, and seeks a quick remedy. A leak by a civil servant earlier revealed that the Chancellor was furious that the actions of DITO should create such hostilities between Badawiyan nations, and Euclea, and feared that Werania may be lumped in with DITO members, despite not being a member itself. Recent talks with PENB nations have reportedly "been a great success", with the Vice-Chancellor announcing that more important talks will hopefully commence soon.

"It is a complete violation of the 1892 Convention, of which Werania was one of the signatories" announced the Vice-Chancellor. She further commented that "Any Weranic ships stuck shall be given as much aid as Werania can possibly give at the moment." and that "Werania will be in touch with the appropriate authorities in the Euclean Community, and Carcosa."

That, however, was not to end the conference. She further commented that "Carcosa would do well to remember that its independent existence is dependent upon the treaty which it now breaks, and that while they surrendered to Gaullican forces during the war, Werania and others fought hard to free them, and the world, from fascist tyranny. Should they continue with this blockade, Werania will withdraw from the treaty, and no longer recognise them as an independent state."

It did not take long for political analysts to understand why Werania was attempting to involve itself in such a dispute. The blockade was unlikely to affect Werania that much, other than being an inconvenience for trade. Instead the Nacht-Tor seems to wish to challenge the Euclean Community, and perhaps establish ties with the PENB group in Badawiya. Other analysts believe that the Nacht-Tor is using it as an opportunity to simply criticise DITO, and push more of the blame for the embargoes onto that organisation.

When pressed further, the Vice-Chancellor reported that "There will definitely have to be a treaty, with stricter rules for Carcosa. The Euclean Community will certainly have to answer as to why one of their members is wildly blocking a crucial trade route." After thanking the reporters, the Vice-Chancellor ended the conference.

"NO ONE ASKED FOR YOUR OPINION"
Princeps Slams Weranian Vice-Chancellor's Remarks, Issues Blistering Rebuke to Critics of PENB Oil Blockade

Image Image Image Image

Anne Zhou (@anne-z )
14 October 2016 8:00 PM | XXI Locia, Carcosa

XXI Locia, Carcosa -

The Carcosian princeps, Andreas Valerius, hit back today at widespread international criticism that has resulted from the recent bill passed by the Senate and House of Tribunes sanctioning the interdiction of oil and liquefied natural gas tankers flying under the flags of nations belong to the PENB oil cartel. The passage of the bill, the revocation by the Port Authority of Carcosa of dozens of clearances to make regularly scheduled transits, and the deployment of the Carcosian military to enforce the blockade have created furor around the globe as the actions are widely viewed as contravening the 1892 Aurean Convention.

The princeps issued a lengthy statement, almost going through those who have criticized the blockade both at home and overseas point by point, but many took notice of his forceful denunciation of Weranian Vice-Chancellor Christina Gothe and defense of the Carcosian government's actions in particular. "No one asked your opinion," the princeps remarked dryly. "Vice-Chancellor Gothe should consider barging in on other issues that are none of her business, and perhaps refrain from threatening our beloved city or spouting vague platitudes about 'international law' acting as a thin veil for Werania's typical anti-EC agenda. And to be quite frank, I was offended that she trivialized the sacrifices of thousands of brave Carcosian resistance fighters and soldiers in the Great War, simply to score ridiculous political points against the Euclean Community. Nor do I find any particular humor in her implication that the 1892 Convention is the only thing underlying Carcosa's sovereignty. Had she actually read any of it before spouting her ignorant and frankly embarrassing threats to the world, or even brushed up on the basic ideas of the sovereignty of nations and our city's long history, she would understand this is not the case. Absurd threats from distant foreigners whose opinion is entirely irrelevant to the issues to cease recognizing Carcosa's independence, when their real motivation is simply to bash the Euclean Community for their own selfish ends, will not have any impact on the government's stance on this issue, though if such embarrassing and unpleasant behavior continues it may lead to separate actions being pursued. We do not ask for Werania or any other nation or organization to issue didactic, unilateral decrees telling us in which specific ways they will suffer us to exercise our sovereignty and in which we must simply allow anyone and everyone to run roughshod over us."
The princeps, sometimes an awkward speaker, had previously laid out a painstaking and detailed legal defense of the blockade, but seemed to become more animated and lively as he laid into the Vice-Chancellor and other figures abroad who have presented criticisms of the Carcosian government's actions, launching blistering attacks against EC and PENB figures as well as critics further afield who have commented on the widely-held view that the blockade violates international norms. "The tortured interpretations of distant apparatchiks, irrelevant foreign blowhards, and corrupt peons of the Badawiyan oil cartel are not worth the paper they are written on or the breath they are spoken with."

BREAKING: ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT AGAINST LIN HUIHONG
Car Bomb Detonated in Had Mai, Deputy Lin Hospitalized with "Grave" Injuries

Aftermath of the truck bomb that detonated as Deputy Lin's car passed nearby.

Had Mai, East Namkwon -

The world has been shocked as an assassination attempt was made today against Deputy Lin Huihong as he traveled in the city of Had Mai, located in the Provisional East Namkwok Republic. Deputy Lin, a vocal and often outspoken critic of DITO, the Euclean Community, and other imperialist powers, was on his way from giving a speech to a large crowd in Had Mai's central Prasong Square to heading to the airport, which is being repaired after Siamati and Negaran forces caused serious damage in their hasty retreat from the city, when a small truck laden with explosives was detonated as his car passed by. His visit had come in response to a number of fabricated leaks regarding the true nature of the popular uprisings in Siamat against the Laphun government, which had blamed an 'invasion' by forces associated with the Qingzhou Treaty Organization for the violence.

Local authorities have not provided clear information yet on the number of dead and wounded, but the bomb went off outside a popular neighborhood cafe located on the ground floor of an apartment building, and dozens may be dead or injured. Deputy Lin was reported to be alive but in critical condition and undergoing emergency surgery to try and save his life, and his wounds are apparently quite serious. Several members of his entourage were also killed or wounded, and worried family members crowded response areas set up by the authorities to try and establish the whereabouts of their loved ones. A number of people are also missing, and local emergency response teams are putting forth a superhuman effort to tend to the victims.

Meanwhile, security officials in Tianjing and Son An issued terse statements saying, as one MSJ spokesperson said, that "the involvement of foreign and hostile elements is currently under active investigation and cannot be ruled out."

In response to this weeks illegal closure of the Aurean straights by the city-state of Carcosa, Foreign Minister Qamar ol-Molouk has called on Far's allies in QTO and PENB to take immediate action. Releasing a statement earlier this week, Ms ol-Molouk said "The action taken by the government of Carcosa is illegal and in blatant violation of international law. The government of Fars asks our allies in QTO and PENB to take immediate action against this illegal decision which effect the economic and political security of all states in the western hemisphere. I also call on the EC, of which Carcosa is a member, to take action before we are faced with yet another oil crisis."

Ms ol-Molouk also hinted at the possibility of taking direct action against the blockade saying "In the eyes of the Farsi people the action taken by Carcosa is nothing less than piracy. If needed, Fars will keep the sea-lanes open and deal with any hindrance by this set of pirates as we would any other. If Carcosa continues with its action, Fars will call on PENB to issue an indefinite oil and gas embargo against Carcosa." Referencing the common Farsi adage "To the walls of Carcosa"*, the Minister said "I fear this time the Carcosi themselves have reached the walls of Carcosa."

Separate from the Foreign Minister's statement, the Economics Minister Hasan Buzurg also issues a statement on the effects the blockade will have on the Farsi economy. He summed it up as minimal saying "At present most of Fars' oil and gas exports are taken by pipe with south or west. A large section is also pipped to ports in eastern Muradi Badiwaya where it can be taken by ship beyond to Asteria and eastern Euclea. However it is obvious the closing of the sea lanes will have a negative economic effect on Fars in the short run, and we have already seen a sharp increase in the price of oil and gas."
The minister also commented briefly on the effects this will have on other PENB members. "The Turkmens and Biyadhans will likely be effect to a greater extent than us. These states do not have the ability to fall back on exports to western Coius and a large percentage of their traffic goes through the Aurean straights."

Given a possibly vast reduction in eastward oil exports from Fars, Biyadh and other western PENB nations due to the blockade of the straights, the price of oil and gas rose overnight to heights not seen since the oil embargo earlier this year.

*In Farsi nomenclature "To the walls of Carocsa" means something reaching its greatest extent. This is a reference to the fact three greatest Farsi empires of antiquity, Samassian, Darab and Bayazeh all tried and failed to take the city-state.

Not sure that'll work on Elepis considering he dislikes (from what I've observed):
A: Nationalism
B: Religion being taken seriously
C: The Irish"
