Sendolian Corsairs Strike Again!

On March 8, 5 sailors were picked up in the Savoro Ocean. They said that their vessel had been attacked by a corsair vessel flying the Sendolian flag, the Bloody Net, while enroute to the port of Ventus. 30 of the 50 man crew were taken prisoner, 25 were killed, while the five that survived were dumped into the water in a dinghy. The sailors just arrived at their port yesterday afternoon aboard the Nutio.

This would be the 23rd time this year that a merchantmen was attacked by a Sendolian pirate. Their is talk that his Highness might impose a convoy system, but these report have yet to be confirmed.

In any event, these events show how inadequate our navy is. The royal navy has little more then 20 armoured steam frigates. Most were built during the 60s too. Yet, they have to protect a merchant marine of 700 assorted ships. In comparison, the pirate city state of Sendol has a professional navy of 60 armoured frigates. 40 of those were built during the 60s, while the rest were only just commisioned. This does not take into account how many pirate vessels they could hire to protect the island.

As Lord Admiral Servus stated in an interview,"The problem is simple really. The Navy has always been given secondary status to the Army and its coastel defense forts, and rightfully so. Copesid (OoC: Copesid was what Our Ladia was called before a certain event.) has never really had an interest oversea's until relatively recently. Nor did we have an enemy that our armies couldn't reach. But Sendol shows us how secure an enemy can be simply by having an ocean between its victim." Lord Servus declined to mention exactly what was planned to remedy the problem, but he did state that,"A plan is being developed that will end the Sendolian menance forever."

Anylists, however, are not confident in the about the Navy's plans. Defense anylasis Sir Trey Umin doubts that the Navy can actually carry out any plan to stop Sendol short of buying them off. He says that the numerical and quanitive gap between the ships of he Sendolian Navy versus the Copesid Navy is too far to be bridged within the next 5 years. The Sendolian Navy can break any blockade enforced on them. Even with privateers they can easily muster more ships then the Navy can. Nor do we possess enough ships to defeat their coastel forts. Their smallest fort, Fort Fagenrie, osses 40 modern rifled cannons. This is equivilent to 4 frigates' firepower. Sir Trey continues to say that the barons will most likely agree to pay off the Sendols instead of actually fighting them. But this too, might be out of the question due to the extreme cost.

Merchant captains have taken measures to protect their ships. A recent report from Terf Armoury stated that they received orders for 54 carronades from varies assorted merchantmen. As one captain has been quoted saying,"If our vessels are going to be attacked by these corsairs, the least we can do is make them fight for it. Our grandfathers did it, so can we!" Others however, have opted to only stay in coastel waters. Atleast 40 freighters were ordered by their owners to stay in coastel waters. Only time will tell if these events will seriously effect the economy.

Until next time,
Bareoneus Weod

Arganuta introduces Social Credits System "Faithful Friend"

City 005 -

The rumors concerning the "Faithful Friend" social credit system were confirmed yesterday in a press release from the Arganutan Church.
The System grading all Arganutan Citizens on a scale from 0 to 1000 will be fully introduced by March 25th.By that date every Arganutan will have one of the microdevices implanted in their wrist, sending any changes to the grade directly to the servers of the "Sisterhood of Neighborly Love".While daily prayer and regular attendance to church sermons are rewarded, unproductive workdays, close interpersonal relationships or unenthusiastic cheering at propaganda meetings are punished.

"Like a good friend, the Faithful Friend System helps every Arganutan become the best version of themselves.Encouraging the faithful and discouraging those led astray this system will allow us to purge the diseases of decadence and democracy once and for all from our community." the press release states, ignoring the irony of praising the benefits of friendship with a tool of social control while punishing actual relationships.
The press release further states rewards and punishments: good scores will permit arganutans to travel between cities and to change jobs, extraordinary scores even allowing an audience with the Stavrophore, the highest ranking office in the church-state.
Bad Scores will result in farm duty, "re-education" and "mandatory assignment to kamikaze units" in times of war.A score of 0 will result in an "immediate visit by happiness squads".

The technical Realization currently depends on apps installed carried by police officers or church officials, that allow the immediate raising or lowering of scores for individuals or groups in the near vicinity. Some churches also have had automatic score raisers installed. It is, of course, likely that automatic score changing will also be implemented once possible.

Although international reactions to the announcement have been overwhelmingly negative human rights are afraid that other authoritarian states in the region may introduce similiar rating systems.

United Carinia Takes Majority in the Chamber of People
It has been a long and odd election season. It is the final election before the main Populist election next year. And in the end, United Carinia takes a majority in the Chamber of people, taking 257 of 505 seats. This comes from growing support for the party from farmers, suburban residents, and blue-collar workers.
In second came Carinia First they picked up localities mostly in rural areas. In third came the People's Front, scooping up a big portion of urban localities. Other notable seats were the Serrian People's Party and the Green Movement.

Once again, United Carinia got a lot of help from the Instant Runoff system, as being a centrist party made it many in the nation's second choice, as one can see by comparing the real seats and the first choices of the People. This caused much controversy considering the rather new Runoff voting system in recent Carinian elections.
Image
However, it was also helped by growing rural support. After losing to Carinia First back in 2005, United Carinia made efforts to appeal to rural Carinians, enacting laws that protected small farmers from larger ones, and giving subsidies to aid small farms. There was also more support directed towards immigrants into Carinia, as the party allied with the People's Front in passing measures to allow immigrants to pass and enacted laws to guarantee their safety, allowing for more support from minority voters to both parties.

Gains and Losses:
United Carinia: Gain - 46 seats (211 previously)
Carinia First: Loss - 34 (126 previously)
People's Front: Loss - 12 (103 previously)
Serri People's Party: Gain - 1 (21 previously)
Green Party: Loss - 5 (18 previously)
National Party: Gain - 1 (11 previously)
Others: gain - 3 (15 previously)

Enalstadt, Modern Planned City for Tech, Finishes Construction!

The Enal Project, a massive, decades-long city building megaproject finished construction today, to form the newly made city named Enalstadt, or "Enal City", or simply, "Enal."
The project was a collaboration between the University of Kaikia, the Hala Muno University in Septo, the Keann Corporation, the Carinian government and investment giant Akael Co. The project cost 25 billion Rasios in total and was meant to serve as a hub for the tech business and a hub for research in the nation. Its location is on the coast for trade, on a river delta, within driving distance to mountains, on the east side of Keta, which has very few natural disasters, and closer to the tech hubs in Kaikia and Merie, made it a perfect place to build such a city.
Image
Enalstadt, or "Enal City"
The city is planned to be able to house 400,000 people, and have plenty of beautifully designed parks and greenspace, with many high rise buildings. The city is also designed with residential zones with pedestrian-only roads, and with a lot of public transportation.
Enal will have an international airport, and a fleet of busses and subways, all of which look very modern.
The city will also house vast business districts with tech giants like Asun and Payli already with buildings reserved for their business. As well as investment and trade companies, these businesses will employ the majority of the city. Not only that, but there is also port in the city for better commerce. Many attractions based on the development of technology are in the city, including a modern theme park.
Image
The city will also house its own public university, the University of Okun, Enalstadt. There will also be a private university called Kayul Polytechnic University. These universities will take the city's location as a prime area for research and it's purpose as a center of technology to greatly enhance student experiences with closeby opportunities.
Enal is ingeniously planned and very well executed, with its beauty and economic significance and center for research and progressive technology.

Saying that, living there would not be cheap. The expected mean cost of an apartment in the city per month is around 4000 dollars per month!

But saying all this, it would be a great city to visit... if you could afford going.

authorities warn that St Dennis school could collapse in a hypothetical earthquake
The st Dennis school in Rostock was a school built in the 1970s. Back then the building codes were poor and a simulation suggested that a 5.9 shallow earthquake would damage it severely, a 6.4 shallow earthquake would cause partial collapse and a 6.7 shallow earthquake or a 7.0 deep earthquake could cause total collapse. The school is built in a way that the concrete, though sturdy could not resist back and fourth motion and could explode if there is too much stress.
