Slavery in Norsai

Postby Norsami » Sat Oct 10, 2020 9:38 pm

Does your nation at this point in your timeline currently use slaves? No

Has your nation used slaves in the past? Yes

Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups? The slaves are owned by private individuals, not the government. The main buyers are the government for the purposes of building projects (roads, castles, military bases, etc) and large businesses (Mining companies, Agriculture companies, Manufacturers, etc).

Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? Slaves in Norsami are usually foreign, can be male or female, though the overwhelming majority are female. Despite being slaves, there is still a gender divide.

On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation? As for how they're treated... that varies.

If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government? There are certain groups in Norsami that push for the institution of slavery. While they aren't deemed terrorists, they certainly hold positions in the government.

If slavery is in place, are there groups that wish to abolish it? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists/rebels or do they hold offices in government? There are groups in Norsami that wish to see slavery abolished. They are not deemed terrorists and rebels by the government. With a few holding government positions.

Is there a limit on how many slaves one can own? Yes. While there is no limit on how many slaves you can "own", you may only have nine (9) at any given time. The main reason for this is to prevent any potential slave revolts. Due to the deplorable living conditions and the fact that they are property, slaves are prone to rebellions.

Is it illegal to kill or rape a slave? No. Slaves are not citizens and have no rights. Owners can do with them as they please.

What happens if a slave kills a master? A slave who kills his or her master is executed immediately.

Does your nation run a slave breeding program? (i,e, pairing strength with strength for manual labour slaves, beauty with beauty for sex slaves) Breeding slaves for manual labor? Yes, the Owners of slaves do have breeding slaves for that purpose. As for beauty? That is not a major criteria for the slaves.

Do slaves outnumber freemen and freewomen? How many slaves are there compared to each freeborn? There are many more slaves than free citizens of Norsami. While there are not many freemen or woman, the ratio of slaves to free is much greater than that of the free population at large.

Have there been slave rebellions of major note that have caused significant issue? There have been a few attempted rebellions, but the only two that are well known occurred around 500AC and involved about a couple hundred slaves. The first started when several of the slaves got together and planned to kill all their masters and take over.It was a fairly large rebellion that was taking place in several places at once. The slaves were determined and the only thing that stopped them were the Norsamian Army that were sent by Empress to be dealt with. In the end the slave rebellion were forcefully put down, with all those who were found guilty simply executed. The second rebellion happened about 50 years later. The slaves did had a bit more success compared to the first one, but once again it was put down by the Norsamian Army. This was considered the most successful rebellion; the slaves managed to gain control over a small portion of the Norsamian heartland, but they were isolated and eventually destroyed by a larger force who marched over from the captial and overran the area.

Finally, is there anyone in your nation who by law cannot be enslaved? There are no slaves or citizens of Norsami who by law cannot be enslaved.

Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share?
- A slave can be given as a gift to another Norsamian, but cannot be given to a non-Norsamian.
- Slaves who do very well are rewarded, either by having 'encouragements' during their work or just gifts.
- Before 147AC owning slaves is only available to high-ranking members of the Norsamian social hierarchy.

[quote="Destyntine";p="37759623"]Does your nation at this point in your timeline currently use slaves? Yes.

Has your nation used slaves in the past? Yes.

Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups? They can be bought and sold now, but if a debt goes unpaid they must sell all owned slaves to the state

Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? There is a huge variety of slaves from other ethnic groups except for Bala Mantrean Aryans

On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation? Very bad.

If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government?N/A

If slavery is in place, are there groups that wish to abolish it? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists/rebels or do they hold offices in government? There is a very very tiny group called the UN. Deemed unholy.

Is there a limit on how many slaves one can own? Nope.

Is it illegal to kill or rape a slave? Nope if its your property its your ability to use as such. And if someone kills yours they must pay it back or go into the gladiator pits

What happens if a slave kills a master? Its too scary to think about what might happen. They have learned not to and leave it at that.

Does your nation run a slave breeding program? (i,e, pairing strength with strength for manual labour slaves, beauty with beauty for sex slaves) Yes, and those people are called Cattle Breeders.

Do slaves outnumber freemen and freewomen? How many slaves are there compared to each freeborn? Its somewhat lower as only regions that are tough or horrid require them.

Have there been slave rebellions of major note that have caused significant issue? Once in a nation called "The Republic of Africanois" based on the African-Mantrean slaves. It was put down within three hours.

Finally, is there anyone in your nation who by law cannot be enslaved? Anyone higher than Mantrean-Africon decent.

Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share?

If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government? The National Alliance of Shoalhaven Independents (NASI Party) has never openely supported slavery, but have advocated for child labour and mandatory military service by all peoples aged 12 (serving a minimum 4 years (it was 8, but they relaxed this)). They are not classified as terrorists, but also do not hold offices in Government, as they usually only get an avarege of 0.6% of the vote.
Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share? The Community of Shoalhaven forbids the purchase, breeding or other attainment of animals for the purpose of re-selling those animals, which The Community classifies as a form of slavery.

Does your nation at this point in your timeline currently use slaves?
No

Has your nation used slaves in the past?
Yes

Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups?
It was a mix of both when it was legal.

Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population?
Slaves were mostly captured africans from the coasts of Guinea, also coming from the Swahili coast. There were also Berber, Arab, Turkish, and Circassian slaves.
Serfs started being imported during the 17th Century, and they were mostly debtors from Germany, France, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Persia, and Russia. Encomiendas (which concerned natives) was abolished in 1721, and serfdom of Europeans and Caucasians/Persians was abolished the following year.

On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation?
It depends, but they started being treated better as time progressed, spiking after the Ladder Conspiracy of Cuba, until the total abolishment of Slavery in 1867.

If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government?
There are no relevant groups that want to bring back slavery, as it's no longer seen as a whole as efficient, but rather as backwards and unnecessary.

Is there a limit on how many slaves one can own?
There was no limit.

Is it illegal to kill or rape a slave?
It was legal to kill a slave. Raping a slave was not illegal, until slavery was abolished as a whole.

What happens if a slave kills a master?
What happened is that the slave was charged and judged accordingly.

Does your nation run a slave breeding program? (i,e, pairing strength with strength for manual labour slaves, beauty with beauty for sex slaves)
Slavery is illegal.

Do slaves outnumber freemen and freewomen? How many slaves are there compared to each freeborn?
Spain always avoided slavery outnumbering freemen. Only the coast of New Granada, and the Caribbean Islands had significant slave populations until the migrations of the 19th Century.

Have there been slave rebellions of major note that have caused significant issue?
There were several slave rebellions in Cuba, the most notable one being in 1844 (aka Year of the La Escalera Conspiracy), which ended in Cuba's abolishment of Slavery.

Finally, is there anyone in your nation who by law cannot be enslaved?
Every citizen and foreigner.

Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share?
The abolishment of slavery, before 1867, was mostly local. The first one was the Philippines, that abolished slavery as a whole in 1571, after that, it was mainland Spain during the 18th Century, after freeing several Moorish slaves. During the 19th Century, it was mostly the American colonies, as they gained statehood slowly. Portugal would ban Slavery on its African colonies, the only ones left in that country to ban slavery, after its unification with Spain in 1869.

Does your nation at this point in your timeline currently use slaves? No
Has your nation used slaves in the past? Yes, from colonial times to 1847, when the last slaves in the Southeastern Provinces were freed by private manumission in Virginia, after the Southeastern Rebellion against seditious slaveowners opposing the British-sponsored imperial abolition legislation who wanted to breakaway from the NAU and the British Empire, and the acceleration of gradual emancipation by the efforts of William Lloyd, a southern abolitionist leader.
Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups? There was an internal slave market but the transatlantic slave trade was abolished in the early 19th century
Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? It was racialized; Africans were captured, sold, and transported to America.
On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation? It depended on the slaveowner how 'benevolent' they were towards their slaves but overall they were treated as property and subject to the whims of their owners.
If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government? There are no groups in the NAU wanting to restart this terrible institution, aside from crazy racialists who are few and far in between.
If slavery is in place, are there groups that wish to abolish it? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists/rebels or do they hold offices in government? When slavery existed, there were abolitionist groups that ranged from gradualists (the majority of such groups) and radicals (immediate abolition, with direct action; these groups were a tiny minority). Gradualists were in office at the general and provincial levels, pushing for provincial-level emancipation and imperial emancipation with laws from Britain for the entire Empire.
Is there a limit on how many slaves one can own? Not when it existed.
Is it illegal to kill or rape a slave? The slaves were treated as property, so not really unless someone killed another's slave and then it became a civil tort matter.
What happens if a slave kills a master? Death or worse.
Does your nation run a slave breeding program? (i,e, pairing strength with strength for manual labour slaves, beauty with beauty for sex slaves) There was "breeding" when slavery existed.
Do slaves outnumber freemen and freewomen? How many slaves are there compared to each freeborn? When slavery existed, in South Carolina entirely and in parts of Louisiana Province, the territory of the Cherokee Nation, and southern Missouri Province.
Have there been slave rebellions of major note that have caused significant issue? When slavery existed, the period from 1815 to 1830 was known for several large slave rebellions that spurred the cause of gradual abolition to the forefront
Finally, is there anyone in your nation who by law cannot be enslaved? Anyone, foreigner or citizen.
Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share?
This is history on slavery in the NAU is based in alternate history, but shares realities with the actual peculiar institution in the real life USA.
An alt-America that had a grand bargain struck with London in the 1760s and remained under the British Crown (Turtledove's "The Two Georges"), mixed with some of Sobel's "For Want of a Nail" and a lot of the anthology "Columbia and Britannia," the sci-fi NZ novel "Anno Domini 2000 or Woman's Destiny", and cameos of other alternate histories. “The Rock of the Britannic Commonwealth,” an alliance of Britannic and former colonies as partner-nations in personal union and/or in association.

Tech level: MT+
NS stats: mostly policies
IC/RP name: North American Union (NAU).
IC/RP main supranational IGO: United Britannic Commonwealth of Nations.

Does your nation at this point in your timeline currently use slaves? Yes
[b]Has your nation used slaves in the past? Yes
[b]Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups? We have lots of slave trading groups, they were imported from Africa, also slavery is funded by the state.
[b]Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? Blacks are kept as slaves by the other races. If you are not black you are granted citizenship and allowed slaves if you can afford them.
[b]On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation? Mostly well, we have some brutal slave owners but most treat them fairly.
[b]If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed as terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government? We always have and will hold slaves.
[b]If slavery is in place, are there groups that wish to abolish it? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists/rebels or do they hold offices in government? Abolitionists are seen as terrorists who want to destroy the economy and our way of life. They are sentenced to death or imprisoned for life in solitary confinement.
[b]Is there a limit on how many slaves one can own? No, they can own as much as they can own and care for.
[b]Is it illegal to kill or rape a slave? No, they are less than the superior races.
[b]What happens if a slave kills a master? The slave is sentenced to death asap and hung in public or on TV.
[b]Does your nation run a slave breeding program? (i,e, pairing strength with strength for manual labor slaves, beauty with beauty for sex slaves) Yes, there are breeding programs, we take DNA from them to make breeding stocks.
[b]Do slaves outnumber freemen and freewomen? How many slaves are there compared to each freeborn? Slaves slightly outnumber the white race but they are kept under control.
[b]Have there been slave rebellions of major note that have caused any significant issues? In the past we have, but they have been put down with force.
[b]Finally, is there anyone in your nation who by law cannot be enslaved? Whites, Asians, Hispanics, and other races that are lighter than the black race.
[b]Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share?

Has your nation used slaves in the past? There is some evidence we used slaves from the 100s to 400s but nothing real major.
Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups? We don't know
Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? Well from the evidence we can gather, slaves were only from captured soldiers
On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation? We don't know
If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government? No (At least somewhat sizable group) wants slavery.
If slavery is in place, are there groups that wish to abolish it? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists/rebels or do they hold offices in government?

Has your nation used slaves in the past? Unclear if the earliest indigenous peoples, the Safiloasha had any. If they did, then it did not last more than 100 years.
Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups? Nope
Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? A large portion of the current population descends from escaped slaves.
If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government? Not currently, but historically the Portuguese, Omani, Italians, Dutch and British all tried to impose the culture of slavery to Bunkaiia.
Have there been slave rebellions of major note that have caused significant issue? More than 50% of the population are descended in one way or another from slavery.
Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share? Runaway slaves often fled to Bunkaiia for the sanctuary that it offered from slavery.

Yes, but as a part of the CSA, not the USSA.

Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups?
They were bought and sold.

Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population?
They were imported blacks from Africa.

On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation?
N/A as we no longer have slaves.

If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government?
Yes, there are some minority radicalists who wish to return to plantation owning days and black slavery.
They are not influential and no one really takes them seriously. They are not labeled as terrorists. .

Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share?
Outsiders might see our flag and think we support slavery, but as an independent nation, the USSA has never had slaves, and the Confederate flag is seen as a symbol of Southern Pride uniting the Heartland with the Outer Territories, not white supremacy. The vast majority of South Appalachians are of Celtic descent (a formerly marginalized group) and do not support racism of any kind.

Does your nation at this point in your timeline currently use slaves? Yes.

Has your nation used slaves in the past? Yes.

Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups? Both.

Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? Anyone by just signing a contract. This means that the
status of a slave is not inheritable, but children of slaves must (Families can't be divided) be given the same benefits such as shelter and housing.

On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation? There is a section of the law that dictates what can and can't be done with a slave, as well as, legislation that forces better conditions upon slave owners. Given our strict punitive response to crime of all sorts, you tell us.

If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government? Not Applicable

If slavery is in place, are there groups that wish to abolish it? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists/rebels or do they hold offices in government? Yes, a few. Most, however, fled when the Republic came crumbling done. The rest keep their wish to themselves.

Is there a limit on how many slaves one can own? No.

Is it illegal to kill or rape a slave? Yes.

What happens if a slave kills a master? The slave is executed.

Does your nation run a slave breeding program? (i,e, pairing strength with strength for manual labour slaves, beauty with beauty for sex slaves) No.

Do slaves outnumber freemen and freewomen? How many slaves are there compared to each freeborn? You would be lucky to see a single slave in a year out of 500 million Gankandsians.

Does your nation at this point in your timeline currently use slaves? No; slavery and serfdom (considered equivalent at that time) were abolished in 1570, and the founding documents of the Imperial Federation (circa 1880) included provisions for universal emancipation as well.

Has your nation used slaves in the past? Yes; though the modern Imperial Federation post-dates emancipation by a long way, slavery was practiced by the pre-partition First Empire until 1570, as well as by the preceeding clan states going back to antiquity.

Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups? During the pre-abolition period, slaves were an openly-traded commodity. During the era of the clan system, anyone with a big enough army could take slaves by force; the First Empire established that only magistrates and military officers could take slaves, but once taken, those slaves could be traded freely.

Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? Under the clan system, slavery was basically unregulated; anyone who could not defend themselves from slavers was potentially at risk. Under the law of the First Empire, free citizens could not be enslaved; only criminals (for whom enslavement was considered a valid punishment more merciful than execution), debtors (who could be enslaved voluntarily to pay their debts), and prisoners of war (who were considered part of the plunder and would be enslaved if they could not be ransomed) could be lawfully taken as slaves, though this was sometimes ignored. In any case, those taken as slaves did not usually belong to any particular race or other classification.

On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation? Prior to abolition, the treatment of slaves and serfs varied widely depending on the locale and era.

If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government? As slavery is considered to be anathema to human dignity in the modern day, anyone seriously advocating for its reestablishment is considered a lunatic or a tyrant or both. Machines are cheaper these days anyway.

If slavery is in place, are there groups that wish to abolish it? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists/rebels or do they hold offices in government? Slavery has already been abolished.

Is there a limit on how many slaves one can own? Yes, zero. Before abolition, there was no limit except the depth of the slave-owner's purse.

Is it illegal to kill or rape a slave? In the pre-abolition period of the First Empire, laws pertaining to the treatment of slaves changed fairly frequently, but the one constant is that they could not be arbitrarily killed; deliberately killing a slave without charge or hearing was considered murder (though working them to death was still permitted).

What happens if a slave kills a master? In the modern day, nothing, because there are no slaves in the Imperial Federation. In the pre-abolition period, the slave would be considered a murderer; at best, they would be exiled, but more likely they would be put to death. (This, incidentally, also applied to non-slave murderers.)

Does your nation run a slave breeding program? (i,e, pairing strength with strength for manual labour slaves, beauty with beauty for sex slaves) No, and it never has; even prior to the abolition of slavery, selectively breeding slaves was not considered economical, as a slave's descendants are considered freemen and are thus of no use to the slave-owner.

Do slaves outnumber freemen and freewomen? How many slaves are there compared to each freeborn? Pre-abolition, slaves and serfs made up a substantial portion of the population, up to half in some cases.

Have there been slave rebellions of major note that have caused significant issue? Several slave rebellions broke out during the pre-abolition period, but none resulted in significant long-term effect.

Finally, is there anyone in your nation who by law cannot be enslaved? In the modern day, nobody may be enslaved, regardless of other legal status; under the First Empire, anyone who was not a criminal, unransomed prisoner-of-war, or desperate debtor could not be enslaved.

Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share? N/A

A slightly retrofuturistic (circa 1980) nation in a Strangereal-esque constructed setting.
All game-generated statistics and policies will be summarily ignored in favor of a good story.
Any posts from prior to late 2022 are to be considered outdated information. (The Imperial Federation no longer exists.)

Does your nation at this point in your timeline currently use slaves? No.

Has your nation used slaves in the past? Yes.

Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups?
There were individually owned slaves; generally African owned by rich individuals for domestic service and semislaves or serfs. State owned slaves were Muslim Pows, heretics or criminals used in war galleys.

Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? Slaves could be from any origin. For debtors and criminals sent to galleys and serfs. Normally rich urbanites like to own exotic slaves.

On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation? for serf were semislave that had some protection, from lords abuses, they worked their owners lands, and could pay for their freedom. Serfdom was abolished by the Princes in the XVIIIth century. Slaves, were owned by their lords. This kind of slavery lasted until the XIXth century. Slaves were few and very expensive, so were treated relatively well. Galley condemneds were generally the worst treated it was a life sentence.

If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government?

No groups call for slavery return.

If slavery is in place, are there groups that wish to abolish it? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists/rebels or do they hold offices in government?

There is no slavery.

Is there a limit on how many slaves one can own?

The limit was the amount you could buy and maintain.

Is it illegal to kill or rape a slave? It was yours no. It was another was a crime. That normally required a reparation to the owner.

What happens if a slave kills a master?

Normally a cruel death to serve as collective example. Dismembration + public exposure.

Does your nation run a slave breeding program? (i,e, pairing strength with strength for manual labour slaves, beauty with beauty for sex slaves)

General slaves did survive so they breed. Slave children were slaves, that could be sold by their master. If the slaves were they master children. They could became free if they were recognized.

Do slaves outnumber freemen and freewomen? How many slaves are there compared to each freeborn? No, slaves were relatively few.

Have there been slave rebellions of major note that have caused significant issue? As slaves were generally few and did domestic work. There were no slave revolts.
There were various serfs revolts. That were repressed, but. Each succesful revolt made the powers to make cede to serfs demands. As, increased serfs rights. Lower payment for freedom, less amount of payment to their lands owner's or Protection from forced eviction.
Some princes used the serfs revolts to increase their power from church and nobles.

Finally, is there anyone in your nation who by law cannot be enslaved? the nobility and clergy.

Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share?

Has your nation used slaves in the past? That's iffy. If you consider the GWO a legitimate successor to the United Nations, yes; if you consider the slaver gangs that ran rampant after WWIV, yes; if you mean has it been legal since the Federation was created, and you aren't considering the UN as part of GWO history, then no.

Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share? The Federation has a well-known "Free Soil, Free Man" law; any slave who steps foot in the Federation is no longer considered a slave. That said, the GWO also historically has aligned with slave states such as Ralkovia (arguably the largest slaveowning power in NS history), and rumors exist that certain GWO logistics companies transport slaves, most notably Ziegler-Ferrari.

Does your nation at this point in your timeline currently use slaves? Yes.
Has your nation used slaves in the past? Yes.
Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups? All slaves are owned by the state, and by extension, the God-Empress. However, slaves are allowed to own other slaves, who in turn own other slaves, in a nightmarish system of nested ownership where the God-Empress is the only free citizen.
Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? The entire population is enslaved by the God-Empress.
On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation? Very, very badly.
If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government? N/A
If slavery is in place, are there groups that wish to abolish it? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists/rebels or do they hold offices in government? No. There were, but all members of abolitionist groups were executed.
Is there a limit on how many slaves one can own? No.
Is it illegal to kill or rape a slave? All sexual activity, including raping slaves, is punishable by death. Killing slaves, however, is legal and encouraged.
What happens if a slave kills a master? They are beheaded.
Does your nation run a slave breeding program? (i,e, pairing strength with strength for manual labour slaves, beauty with beauty for sex slaves) No. Slaves are not allowed to reproduce.
Do slaves outnumber freemen and freewomen? How many slaves are there compared to each freeborn? There is only one free citizen. Everyone else is a slave.
Have there been slave rebellions of major note that have caused significant issue? No.
Finally, is there anyone in your nation who by law cannot be enslaved? The God-Empress.
Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share? Kakistopia grows its slave population from the damned souls of those citizens who once resided in permabanned ex-nations. It is, in essence, NationStates Hell.

Does your nation at this point in your timeline currently use slaves? No.
Has your nation used slaves in the past? Yes. Slavery was a major feature of Mevraq in the 16th through 18th centuries.
Are/were your slaves owned by the state or can they be bought, sold, traded and captured by individuals and groups? By individuals and groups.
Are your slaves consisting of a specific race, gender or other classification? Is there a mix? Or can anyone be enslaved, including your dominant population? Theoretically, anyone could be enslaved. In practice, only foreign non-Jews were enslaved. Most were African, but some were South Asian or Middle Eastern, and a few were European.
On average, how well are slaves treated in your nation? Conditions varied widely. The worst conditions were in the mines. Outside of the mines, slaves were usually treated decently.
If slavery is not in place, are there groups in your nation that want it to start? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists or on the other end, do they hold offices in government? No (unless you count human traffickers).
If slavery is in place, are there groups that wish to abolish it? How influential are these groups? Are they deemed terrorists/rebels or do they hold offices in government? N/A
Is there a limit on how many slaves one can own? There were not.
Is it illegal to kill or rape a slave? It was.
What happens if a slave kills a master? The slave would be tried for murder.
Does your nation run a slave breeding program? (i,e, pairing strength with strength for manual labour slaves, beauty with beauty for sex slaves) No.
Do slaves outnumber freemen and freewomen? How many slaves are there compared to each freeborn? Never. Slaves never made up more than 15% of the population.
Have there been slave rebellions of major note that have caused significant issue? The most notable slave revolt was the 1762 Maji Doran revolt, where slaves seized control of a copper mine on Maji Doran and captured the owner and several of his employees. When the military arrived, the slaves did not resist, but demanded that the owner be tried for abuses. He was ultimately convicted, and the slaves were freed.
Finally, is there anyone in your nation who by law cannot be enslaved? Today, slavery is illegal.
Are there any other notes on slavery (or the lack of it), in your nation not covered by questions above that you wish to share? Historic slavery in Mevraq was based upon Jewish law. Most slaves were eventually freed (usually once they were old), and the children of slaves were always considered freemen.
