The Global Broadcasting Company is a multinational news broadcasting corporation headquartered in Amedil, in the Grand Imperial Republic. It is the oldest broadcasting corporation in the Imperial Republic and the largest in number of employees with 75,532. Though its broadcasting capabilities outside the Imperial Republic suffer greatly when compared to its home country, its access to information in foreign territories is unrivaled by any other Thedosian news corporation, making it one of the most inclusive and accurate news agencies in the country.

“Where does the Global Broadcasting Company operate?”

Though the Global Broadcasting Company operates in a variety of different countries around the world, the majority of its broadcasts are concentrated inside the Imperial Republic. Recently, however, the GBC has been interested in expansion to more countries throughout the world and has been undergoing major projects in order to achieve that objective.

If you’re a representative of a local or federal government and wish to contract the expansion of the GBC to your nation, please let us know at gbcexpand@gbc.the.

The Global Broadcasting Company was formed on September 12th, 1919 by news partners Edward Singh and Leah Kennedy. Both Edward and Leah had previously worked at the Acta Diurna News Agency based in Isa. They were, at the time, renowned for their accuracy in stories and for being able to extract sensitive information from a variety of different sources.

In 1917, however, the agency began to face economic hardships. Many of its customers were buying newspapers from other agencies or preferring to listen to the news on the radio instead of having their own newspaper articles. In early 1918, a fire struck the headquarters of the Acta Diurna news agency and, with income sources lost, it was unable to resist until repairs were completed.

Edward and Leah left the corporation after its collapse and, with the help of various other members under their leadership, managed to establish a new corporation named Imperial News. They grew rapidly, hiring many of the workers from their previous employer, but also hiring many new people; this was due largely to the fact that the Imperial News agency printed not only articles for newspapers, but also established several radio channels where individuals could tune in to listen to the news.

The success of Imperial News drew attention from many investors and other wealthy individuals, who diverted money from other investments to the Imperial News corporation, which only accelerated its growth. Before 1930, it was among the most prestigious news agencies in Thedosia.

The 1930s in particular, however, were difficult for the corporation. The economic downturn of the Imperial Republic was a major factor in the closing of establishments and the reduction of broadcast time and distances. Advertisement also became more and more common in their newspapers in an attempt to increase revenue. The Imperial government eventually permitted loans to be taken out with the government itself to stimulate the economy, although the difficult of the times remained.

It wasn’t until the Great War that the economy was renewed. The massive production of the nation reactivated the economy, and Imperial News’ revenues began to rise once more. Additionally, the company was among the few news agencies allowed to follow Imperial forces in their campaigns during the war, which increased its popularity back home as nationalistic tendencies became more common in the homeland.

Following the end of the war, Imperial News’ popularity continued to grow. Its newspaper articles were the most famous across the Imperial Republic and its radio—and eventually, TV—broadcasts were the most listened to in the country. In the 1990s, in a bid to establish itself as the largest broadcasting company in the nation, Imperial News gobbled a number of much smaller news outlets, and renamed itself the Global Broadcasting Company.

In the early 21st Century, the new GBC made the decision to remove physical newspaper articles altogether in preference of the new and exciting web portals and its own mobile phone application, where news articles could be more efficiently archived and reach a significantly higher number of people around the world.

Today, the GBC operates primarily in the Grand Imperial Republic, but its news website are looked at around the world and its television broadcasts are widely available. It is the oldest still-standing news agency in the Empire and the one generating the highest revenue, as well as employing the largest number of individuals. Effectively, the GBC has become the largest news corporation in the Imperial Republic.

Bank of Thedosia Buy Stake
25% ownership stake of Vanderbelt F.C. bought by the Bank of Thedosia
Written By: Aedi Lupicus [@aedilupi]

Vanderbelt — Lord Francis Taylor, current executive chairman of the Bank of Thedosia, announced today an investment made by the financial firm to purchase a quarter stake of the Muatian Super League “Vanderbelt Football Club.” Official figures for the purchase have not been released from either side.

The announcement, made this afternoon on the Bank of Thedosia’s official website, was expected, with various rumors reporting negotiations between the two entities to strengthen the relationship between them.

However, the announcement came as a surprise even to those aware of the rumors, since it had initially been speculated that the Bank of Thedosia was negotiating to become the primary sponsor of the club and not an stakeholder.

It was also announced this afternoon, however, that in the negotiations it was also determined that the Bank of Thedosia would become the club’s primary sponsor and occupy the front of the club’s jersey for the next several seasons.

Bank spokesperson Therio Kyana, the leading representative for the Bank of Thedosia in negotiations, told reporters that the “agreement signed between our bank and the Vanderbelt Football Club is beneficial to both our desires; we’re positive that, with the work ethic with which we’ve gotten as far as we have, we can help make Vanderbelt be one of the most competitive football clubs in the Muatian Super League.”

When questioned about what was expected from the stake purchase, club representatives responded, “Our expectations as a club are to establish ourselves as a dominant power within the League and create a tradition of being a club of winners and champions but still keep the principles of fair play and solidarity with the community. Obviously, we believe that we can achieve this more thoroughly with the help of the Bank of Thedosia.”

Many fans have shown themselves to be excited by the purchase, suggesting that it could mean the club becomes a dominant force in the league more quickly. Others are more skeptical of the investment of foreign firms and what that might do to the interests of the club and its fan-base. Addressing these concerns, Therio Kyana said, “We understand that many people are afraid of what foreign intervention in their club might do, but beyond the interests we have in the club as a business venture, we’re also interested in keeping the fans happy; the club is rightly theirs, we’re only running the administration of it. Something that they can expect is more foreigners being drawn to their club, which will increase revenues and opportunities, allowing them to become even more popular with both domestic and foreign fans. Who knows where the Vanderbelt Football Club might be in a couple of years?”

Vanderbelt Football Club is a Muatian football club founded in 2016 that did not compete last year but is expected to in the upcoming season.

#1 — Theral [115 likes | 32 dislikes]: Well, I don’t really see anything wrong with this. There’s obviously financial information we don’t have access to that makes the Bank of Thedosia want to invest in this club, and it’s a safe bet that they have big objectives for the future. I think this might be good for everyone, both for that club’s fans, and for clients of the bank itself. So… Go Superbelts?
#2 — Moseing [61 likes | 2 dislikes]: So long as we make money and not lose it, I guess.
#3 — Ingold [109 likes | 11 dislikes]: Sound business deal. Prizes for high positions in the Muatian league outweigh the costs of the Bank’s investment—obviously, otherwise they wouldn’t have done it—and the sponsorship can make the Bank popular in the area, simplify expansion to the nation. I just hope that the club’s aspirations are actually achieved and not just objectives on a piece of paper.
#4 — Thentlas [43 likes | 12 dislikes]: I’ve always said these foreign leagues are risky as all hell. We have no way of knowing whether or not the club we invest in is going to succeed; it could literally cost the Bank dozens of millions of credits if it all goes kaput. I just don’t see the need. We all know the Thedosian League is of high quality and there are lots of teams here who would love to have that sponsorship or ownership. It seems like a waste.
#5 — Havilly [214 likes | 67 dislikes]: @Thentlas I’d imagine sponsoring your own bank in your own nation would produce less profit than if you sponsored it in a foreign nation with very little presence. In the long run, I think the idea would be that you’d get more customers and thus, more revenue. As for the ownership, it’s possible that there exists a price gap between VCF and most clubs in the Empire, so it’s simply cheaper to purchase it elsewhere; it’s also true that ownership of the club often spreads a name around, which could also increase the number of customers the bank has more in a foreign market than in the domestic market.

Imperial Military Mobilization
The Imperial military intervenes in Zelphos
Written By: Sid D’cruze [@sidcruze]

Zelphos — The Imperial government today announced the military mobilization of the Grand Marine Corps with the intention of becoming intimately involved with the conflict currently developing in the Zelphosian nation.

The announcement comes just days after several chemical weapons were deployed in the region, primarily against civilian targets.

Secretary of Defense Jaxon Cross made the announcement this morning in a specially convoked press conference. He said that the “situation in Zelphos is getting out of hand, and the Empire has the moral obligation to participate in an international effort to bring an end to the conflict and attempt to return the region to normality.”

According to the Imperial report, the Marine Corps have already deployed an entire unit to the area and are preparing to undergo military operations alongside its allies in the region.

Secretary Jaxon continued by saying that the, “Empire only wishes to help establish peace and order in a region that has been engulfed by the use of various weapons of mass destruction and high-severity massacres. We wish to help the nation’s democratic government regain a foothold in its territory.”

Opponents of the intervention claim that the Empire has no right becoming involved in a foreign conflict, and further claim that the government is interested only in what rewards it can extract from the victims. Others still claim that the Empire is not directly affected by the situation occurring in the region and should not meddle in other nations’ affairs.

Anti-interventionist group No More War has allegedly written a strongly worded letter to the chancellor’s palace in Ephays, requesting that the Imperial government remove itself from the conflict and allow it to continue on its natural course. A representative of the group, Gale Lehmann, said in a press conference following the announcement that the “Thedosian government again perceives it is the ‘desire of the Thedosian people’ to become involved in every other conflict that plagues this world instead of focusing on making the lives of each individual Thedosian at home better.

“It’s a disgrace,” he continued, “that the Imperial government wants to send our young men and women off to a foreign land none of them have even heard of to fight a war none of them [care] about.”

Defense Department spokesperson Madeleine Wescott responded to these jabs from the No More War group, saying that the “Imperial government is, in fact, interested in making the lives of each Thedosian better; it does this by ensuring that the environment in which our citizens live—not only those that live strictly at home, but also those that travel abroad to explore the world and experience exotic scenes—is one where they can feel safe and secure. Having an entire conflict where chemical weapons are being used and where hundreds of thousands of people—civilians, mind you—are being massacred is not our definition of ‘safe and secure.’ ”

A survey of Thedosian citizens in the city of Ephays suggests that approximately eighty percent are in favor of intervention, with twelve percent unsure and eight percent against.

Zelphos is a nation currently experiencing a civil war, following a military coup d’etat by General Azur Merik. Current casualty estimates indicate the conflict has had a cost of between twenty and twenty—five thousand lives.

#1 — Judianob [1,467 likes | 374 dislikes]: How can people see what’s going on in Zelphos and not want to intervene? Those people are dying over there! You’re sitting there comfortably on your sofa, running through the news, maybe checking how the stock market is doing and watching cat videos online. And they are over there, suffocating from the mustard gas or burning from the napalm, or being shot directly by some firing squad. And you want to turn away? You want to ignore what’s going on over there? I’ve already submitted my request to be transferred from Reserve to Active; if any more troops are sent, I want to be on that platform dock.
#2 — Kichat [341 likes | 79 dislikes]: I have to admit, what’s going on over there is brutal. Mustard gas, napalm, firing squads, all being aimed at civilians. It’s a massacre and it is disgusting, unethical; those giving the orders should be shot themselves. And while I’m not against intervention, I have to admit, I wouldn’t want to go over there. Apparently a lot of reserves have been requesting shifts to Active so they can participate, or at least help out, but I don’t want to do that. I’m comfortable as a reserve. I’m a banker, I don’t want to fight a war. I want to run the numbers and make sure my firm is doing well. I applaud those that want to put on the uniform, grab a gun, and start firing, but people really need to get it into their heads that not all of us are like that, nor do we need to be. So leaving me alone to count some credits should be an option, too.
#3 — Logesterme [112 likes | 597 dislikes]: If there was a coup d’etat, then I say they had it coming. Let them deal with their own shit, and let us deal with ours.
