Personal Questions
Your nation's current leader:
Elev Kastizan
Your nation's leader's sex and age:
Male, 58
Your nation's leader's spouse:
Mhira Alsena-Kastizan, 60. They have three children, whose names and ages have not been made public.
Your nation's leader's official title (king, president, etc):
None. When appointed, Mr. Kastizan held the title of "Administrator", but he disestablished the title in 1991, and has not yet developed a new one, for reasons that remain obscure.
Your nation's leader's ideology:
The Kastizan Administration's policies have been socially liberal (some would say radical), eco-friendly, favour a "middle way" between nationalism and globalism, are relatively doveish, support "fair trade" rather than "free trade", and have marked a return to the mixed economics of the Seljand Administration from the command economy of the Orokek Administration.
The World Census classifies Czardas as a "Libertarian Police State", but this is inaccurate on all three counts. Nonetheless it is true that social freedoms are high ("Excellent"), economic freedom is moderate (in the 71st percentile internationally) and political freedoms are low ("Rare").
Where your nation's leader resides (building name and location):
Mr. Kastizan's private residence is not known to the public. His offices and those of his Cabinet are at 110 All Saints' Way, Czarna 7TA D114, next to the National Library.
Societal Questions
Nickname given to your nation's leader by citizens:
Apart from referring to him as Kastizan (without the Mr.) people rarely use nicknames. One journalist for an English-language paper had a habit of referring to him as Mr. E, because of his first name (Elev) and because so much of his personal life is a "mystery", but reportedly stopped using this designation after being assaulted with rolled-up copies of the paper by his co-workers.
Your nation's citizens' opinion on their leader:
Kastizan's approval rating has varied widely over the course of his administration. Upon his rise to power in 1988 and immediate actions to dismantle the restrictive Orokek-era laws, he became a revered figure simply for lifting the iron fist from the nation. At other times—with the introductions of controversial laws, or his peace offering following the 1992 war which returned to Atrea all of its territory east of the 1954 demilitarized zone—he has been, if not hated, at least seriously distrusted. That said, his complete indifference to public opinion and long-term commitment to policies has earned him grudging respect even from his political enemies. It is fair to say that at present he is widely respected, occasionally loved, sometimes feared but never hated. (Approval rating 66% in a 2015 poll)
Have citizens ever planned or thought of overthrowing their leader:
Undoubtedly, and several anti-government organisations were raided by the Self-Defence Force in 1995-99 and accused of planning terrorist attacks or assassinations. That said, it's generally believed that upon his death or retirement Kastizan will establish a democratic means of succession, and perhaps the activists are simply waiting to see if that would happen rather than risking that another hand-picked Administrator would prove to be worse. The disaster of the Orokek Administration has caused many Czards to be wary of political change, and Kastizan is certainly a better option than many others, in the minds of the people.
Does your nation's leader like his/her people:
It's hard to say. The Kastizan Administration has certainly instituted greater civil rights and economic freedoms than existed previously, which have been to the people's benefit, but many of them were initially passed over protests. It seems Kastizan's attitude towards his people is of kindness tempered with impatience and the instillation of the desire to learn; in rare interviews, Kastizan has hinted that he views himself more as a teacher than a ruler.
Does your nation's leader protect his/her people:
Yes: from outside enemies through the War Force, from crime through the Self-Defence Force, from poverty through Work & Income and the welfare programmes, and from ignorance through a massive expansion public education that is not expected to reach completion until 2030.
Government Questions
Did your nation's current leader cause a revolution to take place (did he/she change your nation's government):
No, but his rise to power was the result of a revolution of sorts. Stanah Orokek's honour guard and favourite military unit, the 14th Special Operations Group (called "the Helmets"), assassinated him at 11:30 PM on July 25, 1988. The leader of the nine-person fireteam who carried out the assassination then drove to Kastizan's home, informed him of what they had done and offered to support him as Administrator. According to his own account, Kastizan considered this for several hours, then at three in the morning on the 26th called the private line he'd been given to accept. The next morning, the fireteam leader met with the ministers of Orokek's cabinet, informed them Orokek was dead and they were to support Kastizan as his successor or risk civil unrest. They did so partly out of fear of the Helmets, who at the time had been linked to dozens of infiltrations, assassinations, regime changes and disappearances; he was sworn in later that day.
What made the Helmets choose Kastizan is unknown. A conspiracy theory arguing that they were paid to assassinate Orokek by a foreign power also posits that that power demanded the installation of Kastizan. However, at the time he was a permanent secretary in the civil service and not well known either domestically or internationally.
Is your nation's leader satisfied with your nation's government :
More or less. Kastizan is known for replacing Cabinet members at very short notice, much like Orokek (although unlike him he does not have them executed afterwards), and his authority is almost unlimited, so if he were dissatisfied it would be his duty alone to rectify that.
Does your nation's leader have bodyguards surrounding him/her everywhere they go:
No. The 14th Special Operations's bodyguard duties were discontinued three months after Kastizan's accession. He does occasionally use bodyguards, but more often simply relies on his characteristic secrecy.
Does your nation's leader secretly negotiate with other leaders of other nations for "confidential" reasons:
Of course—most nations do so. Private negotiations are a keystone of diplomacy.
Military Questions
Does your nation's leader like your nation's military:
Mr. Kastizan rarely seems to think of it. Military numbers and equipment have been maintained, but very little has been added since the early 1990s, nor has the military been used for anything except peacekeeping operations, disaster relief, and occasional Dagora Doctrine support.
Is your nation's leader more focused on military rather than citizens:
No. Although the administrations that have ruled the Federation of Czardas have been fundamentally military in nature, Kastizan has gone a long way towards diversifying that.
Does your nation's leader like weapons of mass destruction/deadly weapons:
No; Czardas is a nuclear-free state.
Does your nation's leader hide powerful military weapons from his/her citizens:
While the existence of powerful military weapons is obviously known, yes, citizens have no access to these weapons. (Not that there's any good reason for a private individual to purchase a thermobaric weapon or cluster munition!)
Does your nation's leader seek to annihilate other nations using his/her military:
No.
